I think realistically the PS5 Pro would be $600 at most. Either that or they launch it at $500 and lower the PS5 Slim (Disc) to $400.
If they can pull off something like that, they'll really get ahead in sales compared to the Xbox. Sure might take a hit on profits but they'll make that up exponentially through a drastic increase in user install base; especially from people like me that have stayed with the PS4/PS4 Pro all this time. When that happens, they're going to see a huge surge in software and accessory sales as well as PS+ subscriptions.
In terms of what I think they could do...
- have 2TB or 4TB of internal storage
- support for up to 2 NVMe SSD slots instead of the 1 we have with PS5 & PS5 Slim
- maybe double the RAM and CPU specs
- maybe change the case design so it doesn't look so weird?
- maybe have an in-house developed AI system that will help games play at locked 60 fps with things like ray tracing and 1440p

Seeing as I haven’t bought a PS5 yet and they haven’t significantly reduced the price of the console in the last 4 years I’m 95% sure I will buy the Pro depending on price and features

I'm looking for a PS5 Pro disc version for $500. Then the original PS5 should be $400. A $549 bundle is acceptable if it comes with a game or controller. The game isn't critical, but I prefer a PS5 exclusive.
I won't pay $600 for a PS5 Pro. While I value these systems, the high price of games (often $70 with microtransactions) and the need for grinding in free-to-play games makes it less appealing. I primarily use PlayStation consoles for exclusives, and I didn't want to pay $500 just to play Spider-Man 2. Other PS5 exclusives haven't been particularly exciting for me.
However, since GTA VI won't be available on PC and Xbox isn't releasing a Pro version, a beefed-up PS5 seems like the best option for playing it. Combined with Spider-Man 2 and a base console price of $500 for the PS5 Pro, should be reasonable for me personally.

Why would we need a PS5 Pro when the current games released and being made don't fully utilize the capabilities of the PS5 now?
Anyone else's ps5 here make a ridiculous buzzing sound that changes frequency depending on the part of the game you are in. I've had 4 replacements now and it's on all of them.
I think that the Switch 2 is definitely causing a headache for Sony. The concern is releasing a PS5 Pro this year and giving Nintendo the entire 2025 holiday season to dominate. Maybe that's enough for them to delay the PS5 Pro? I figured we would have seen it by now. But they don't have any new software to showcase the hardware. Astrobot and Until Dawn Remastered isn't going to sell hardware.

@@jollama Same here I have most of the PS5 games I would have bought on the PS5 on Steam. Not knocking the Sony brand here as I've had several of their past handhelds and consoles. But this generation is a disaster. If the PS6 gets back on track I might buy it, but between the pre-order fiasco, the two year scalper issue, and now very few exclusive games its not worth buying a PS5 and not worth Sony's investment to make a Pro model either.

I’m not ready for a ps5 pro. What’s wrong with the PS5?
I have a Ps 4 slim and a ps4 pro. I was not able to get a PS5 because of scalpers and chip shortages.
This year, around February the PS5 was available again, but for a bigger price,
some bundle are still sold for 750-850€ range in Germany, crazy, I know.
At this point I have decided to skip the regular PS5 and wait for PS5 pro.
Bought a day ago a Samsung 990 pro 4TB with heatsink, all I need is that pro variant.
If will be released I think the prices will be around 650-700€, at least in Germany.

The only way a pro makes sense is if it comes out at the same price as the ps5 and the ps5 base gets price cut. And even then I’m not sure it totally makes sense given ps5 doesn’t even have that many exclusives that truly push it to the limit. So far the main next gen feature has been the SSD and lack of loading… 😂 kind of sad.
$549 is ok, if it reaches $600 then I want 1TB minimum with better CPU and GPU speeds, primarily 1080p 90 fps in cod and other AAA titles.

So the current hardware already technically has that feature (whether all games or developers take advantage of it is another problem). So I don’t get the point of the pro…90FPS for COD is not good enough.
It would need to be like 4k120 with all the ray tracing bells and whistles (I don’t even care for RT personally). Like I said so far it’s the SSD no loading that’s been the biggest thing. I can’t justify any increase in price given the lack of games pushing the base ps5 so far.

The PS4 pro was a major upgrade from the base ps4, I owned both. Modern-day games are huge and take up a lot of storage space , and are very performance demanding, I would be pumped for a ps5 pro as a current ps5 owner , but it would have to be leaps and bounds better than the original PS5.

What people dont realise is how the Pro is gonna be severely bottlenecked by the aging Zen 2 CPU which may not even allow the console to output 35 Tflops.

I predict early september reveal and late october release for the new cod and silent hill 2 remake. Judging by the new 2tb xbox price would be between $600 to $700. I would be surprised if it more than $700.

I've never bought any PS5s before, so if Sony does end up releasing a PS5 Pro, I hope it'll be worth it enough for my plan of buying it this time around. I could say the same about a more powerful XboxSeriesX, but Phil Spencer has recently confirmed that plans for a mid-gen Xbox Series is actually far less likely than an Xbox successor, which actually sounds like an even worse idea to me!
*September 10 EDIT:* Well part of this comment aged like milk, because I was hoping that a PS5-Pro would include a Disc-Drive, only to find out that didn't end up being the actual case, not to mention how it is far more expensive than the original PS5, which was already powerful enough as is, let alone their graphics... Really goes to show how PlayStation can fail with quantity over quality, even though PS5-Pro is also high-quality in a technical sense too.

PS5 Pro will focus more on Ray Tracing. It's a new technology just like 4K was when the PS4 Pro came out.
It will not be as powerful as the current Nvidia GPU's but it'll do the job. I doubt that it will support high quality frame rates in 4k. Maybe 4k60fps or 4K VRR

I have to say I love my PS5. It's been my favorite console since PS1 and 2. The PS4 Pro was also nice. Sony needs to understand that most of us PS fans will give them all of our money.
PS1 and PS2 will never be topped for me , the nostalgia Is just too strong , the designs were perfect , the innovation , soundtracks , stacked years with consistent bangers dropping every WEEK , coming faster than you could ever play all of them , the slick dark edgy marketing of the era , the over the top hardcore style of big E3 events back then.. It was all pure bliss , the gaming community hadn't yet "sold out".

The question is ultimately: what games are even going to be improved by this? I buy every console and every upgrade, I'm their prime audience, but I've not been excited for this at all. Just seems like a waste of money for me to upgrade.

I agree with Sep and Nov predictions, but I dont get why companies think November is a good time to launch a new system. Half or more of that potential Christmas audience has already bought their presents for the year before Black Friday. And thanks to demand outside of the holidays plus scalpers, there will be shortages. (source: I worked at EB when the PS2, gamecube, and Xbox launched)
It seems to me the best business decision would be to launch around June. Get through the initial boom in sales, then replenish inventory so that the entire potential audience of holiday buyers can come start buying them up in September. Grandmas start fulfilling those wishlists in August even. Novemeber seems like you're just barely getting it out at the last minute.
But that said, I can't wait to upgrade to the Pro. Whenever it comes out

I have doubts about SIE releasing a PS5 Pro when countries around the world are in economic turmoil and people are struggling financially to keep the lights on and put food on the table. It makes no sense to release a PS5 Pro only for it to sit on store shelves gathering dust.

Scalpers have a delimma , times are tough and alot of oeople are strapped for cash , plus RTX 5000 graphics cards are dropping around the same time , AND a large portion of the younger market Is holding out and preparing for Switch 2 , so any asking price past like $100 extra probably wont even sell. If PS5 Pro drops for $600 scalpers arent making enough money for It to be worth scalping , given how big of a cut Ebay takes nowdays , It wont be worth the trouble , If the price Is too high alot of people will just get a new or discounted GPU for the same price with far more power and build a PC. The scarcity and trendiness of a PS5 and current gen consoles has worn off , It wont even be close to the demand of the 2020 launch.

i am not necessarily saying that it is not happening, but the ship has sailed for the ps5 pro. it should have released alongside the ps5 slim, like how they did it last gen. now? this will be a pricing nightmare, and there is a huge chance sony will ruin what goodwill they have with their fans. if they release it within a year, they would have to price it at least at $600. it will be tough to sell it at upwards of $650. heck. no system did well at the $600 and above price points. if they will price it at the $500 range, then they would have to lower the price of the non-pro versions. but then, this will be a slap in the face of those who bought the ps5 slim. imagine buying it and within a year an upgraded model shows up. and no, don't compare this to mobile phones where it's almost certain that there's a new flagship model every year.
2026 would be the next window for a ps5 pro. i am guessing sony would want to thwart the switch's successor, which may release on that year. we may hear announcements about new hardware from both sony and nintendo in 2025. a ps5 pro in 2026 will mean an extended console cycle. that means at earliest, we will hear a ps6 announcement in 2028 and then a release in 2029.

Jokes aside, Sony has done the same things, such as canceling games (the last of Us 2 Factions, a live-service twisted metal game) and closing down studios like Remember London Studio or Japan Studio, the MFs that made the peak game Knack 2. Both Microsoft and Sony are sides of the same shit-covered coin.
So, there have been no truly exclusive games this generation (mainly because they were ported to PC). Nintendo is the only one left with true exclusives.

Honest to god no one should be worrying about more powerful consoles this early into the PS5’s life. Sure we’ve been in this generation for about 4 years, but we really are reaching a point where upgrading pretty much any piece of modern tech is borderline wasteful. At times it really feels like Sony is more interested in getting people to just _buy_ a PS5 rather than _play_ a PS5.

With only 10 games made for the PS5 in 4 years do we really need a pro version. I don't think so why not make some games for us who bought the PS5 and thought we'd were getting a console with future games coming.

I got back to playing PlayStation with the PlayStation 4 pro previously to that the last PlayStation I played was a PS2. And the only reason why I got it was because of Spider-Man I couldn’t believe Spider-Man wasn’t coming to other consoles, but I had to play so I had to get a PS4 and at the time there was no point of getting a slim if the PS4 pro was significantly better. This time around I have a PS five I barely play it. There’s no games that I’m interested in coming out for outside of Wolverine and who knows when that’s coming so I’m probably not going to get a PlayStation five Pro even though I say that and going to see it, and for some reason, I want to buy it like I brought a OLED switch and I don’t play the Redbox switch or the OLED switch. I’m gonna try to be financially responsible and just wait until the PS six.

Almost every game that has Ray Tracing will benefit from the Pro. The higher head room will allow for either better performance or Ray tracing at higher resolution. Also forcing some games if not all that are locked behind 30fps to 60fps with it's boost mode. Do not sleep on the benefits of this new mid gen system. The PS4 Pro didn't have a significant impact during a transitioning market. Now the PS5 Pro is a better upgrade in terms of impact for the features and tech you're getting.

Theres no point in having the pro come out this yr! Bcuz most ppl bought a ps5 Slim last year for the holiday's! Buying 2 systems in 1 yr isn't worth it! An it wont sell well! It shld release at least 2025! 🤷
The pro is a better value for the money and a buffer for ps6... We don't need ro jump to the next gen immediately it releases if we got a previous gen pro...
