If you're not trading in your PS4 you can take the hard drive out and use it for extra storage for your new PS5. You just need a USB hard drive case to plug it in.
Per Experience I recommended that unless you are currently downloading a game in Rest mode, you should always fully extract your external hard drive and shut down your PS5. It does not take that long to boot up.

PS5 Slim is best if you didn't have the original PS5, to begin with, that's why the original is being replaced and the Slim will now be the standard PS5. Ps5 Slim has better airflow since it has more holes the case is thinner and it's quieter

The most important thing is to not keep your ps5 standing up vertically. It's the worst thing you can do. The liquid metal will pool down and will not rest completely over the element It's meant to cover. It will constantly over heat if you're in a warmer environment and you will have to take the whole ps5 apart to get to this liquid metal in order to move it back or replace it completely. You do not want to have to do this.
U DEFINITELY need the stand. If you stand it up flat, you cover the air intake holes in the bottom. The stand gives enough gap to allow proper airflow to cool the unit
