      He indeed does live in Japan. If you live in a city, you should be able to get lotus root at an Asian supermarket (or regular, big supermarket). Or replace it entirely.

      I hear You! I have seen Lotus root in recipe & in Hindi cooking however out in the sticks of Australia, there is no Asian grocery. That being said you can improvise but i would really love to try Lotus Root, i follow a lovely Taiwanese Lady who may have it in her online shop, i will check it out.

      It's cold. Coconut oil melts at 24 degrees C, so maybe his home is around 20-23 degrees? It's winter in Japan, so I can't image living in temperatures much lower than that during winter 😮

    Unusual to put all of the pungent seasonings in at the end and not in the beginning with the cumin. seeds crackling in the oil. The oil I think would then be deeply infused with the flavors of the seasonings and would coat the onions, mushrooms and lotus root with rich flavor. I love the ingredients in his warming winter soup. Might add Thai red chili and lemon grass, cilantro and basil and lime. I guess that would make it a totally different recipe! Pay no attention to me. Haha! I love your videos.

      Lots of curries put the powders in with after the veggies etc have been added. I think there are different flavours if you add them then compared to frying the spices in the oil

    Continually shocked at negative comments on such a beautiful basic video. It’s a recipe people, if you don’t like it, don’t make it. If you didn’t like it don’t finish watching the video.
    Yes, there is no meat which is why it is ‘peaceful’.
    I hope the negative comments don’t deter you from making these videos. I believe the positives outweigh the negatives.

    • @nikosfilipino
      @nikosfilipino 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Pardon me as im writing this a year later. Although this is a good recipe, i can definitely see room for improvement, especially since this curry is so simple with minimal ingredients, making technique an important factor for the final outcome of the curry. He shoulda toasted all of the spices in the coconut oil first

    • @chloro8306
      @chloro8306 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nikosfilipino raw spices have a different flavor from toasted, so it depends what flavor you are going for. Trying to be a know-it-all like that usually comes back to bite you in the ass

    • @nikosfilipino
      @nikosfilipino 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chloro8306 Being that he's only using 3 spices in this dish, why wouldn't you want to extract as much flavor from them as possible? It's not like he's adding garam masala at the end of the dish that has already had loads of flavor developed. It's like searing meat. Yeah, you can just throw a bunch of meat and aromatics into water and get a pretty decent broth, but searing the meat and deglazing the pan adds loads of flavor to a dish, turning something simple into something incredible. IDK how I'm being a know-it-all when you have also commented on like 3 other threads about the same topic. we're both sharing info here.

    • @chloro8306
      @chloro8306 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nikosfilipino Garam masala is frequently raw spices mixed together. If you want the flavor of the spice when they are raw rather than the flavor of toasted spices, then you don't toast or temper them.
      Raw spices are already very flavorful, that flavor is just different from cooked.
      Again, garam masala is often a raw spice mix. That's why it is used at the end of a dish, because it's meant to stay raw because raw spices taste different from cooked. If you think garam masala is flavorful, then you are admitting that raw spices are flavorful.
      You're being a know-it-all in the "talking out of your ass" sense, because you clearly have no idea what you're talking about.
      www.vegrecipesofindia.com/punjabi-garam-masala/

    • @nikosfilipino
      @nikosfilipino 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chloro8306 so are you saying that you should never toast spices and that anyone who toasts their spices are invalid? Reread my original response. Garam masala added to the end of the dish is great, but you'd want to develop flavor as you go. It's like salt. Yeah, salt to taste once you finish the dish but you absolutely want to salt at different times throughout the dish. And yeah, ill admit im not an expert in the subject but i do know things. Perhaps im applying a western mindset of cooking to all this. That being said, in something like this, why wouldnt you want to heighten their aroma? You call me a dumbass when literally everything i said is what most cooks teach.

    excellent video...a small tip: adding spice powders along with onion and sauted in oil gives a excellent flavour and consistency to the curry...also adding tomato paste gives little tangy taste if u prefer..

    I love this video. Curry is my souls food. I don't know why it appeals to me but it does immensely. The music in the background was touching. We got to hear what you like. It's your kitchen, thank you for sharing your time with us. 😊
