You will see that many of the tips and procedures used are universal for skill sets "every mechanic should know" and that the biggest value to my videos is the teaching of these skills that are not found in a service manual.
I often get asked this question:
Q: How does one learn these skill sets "every mechanic should know" if they are not found in a manual?
A: NUMBER 1.....GET DIRTY and start wrenching.
    -Ask questions
-Find a seasoned craftsman to mentor under
-Tech schools can significantly speed this time up
    -Research, read, watch TH-cam videos
Tip: You will never learn it all from one source or in a short time period. No matter what craft you are trying to master, YOU must be dedicated and put the time in. THERE IS NO BETTER WAY TO LEARN THAN DOING! I will say it again, you must actually do the work to master it. You cannot just watch or read about it and master anything.
You want to be a master bike builder, mechanic, welder, nurse, carpenter or you fill in the blank?
-Don't take for granted opportunities to learn deeper
    -Be humble and seek advice
-Be intentional with your learning plan
-Don't blame a school, job or your parents for not giving you ever answer, go get it!

Thanks Shane! Had to make a special screwdriver to remove my low speed jet on my '95 Heritage Softail Classic... Rebuilt the carb, and it worked well. Thanks for these tutorials!

I'm a bit late to this party, but for future reference: They make a set of hollow ground screwdrivers for gunsmithing that should work very well for this, and are not terribly expensive. A full assortment of different barrel widths and blade thicknesses, and since they are hollow ground, once you find one that will fit the slot fully, it will have no taper to allow a bunch of slop.

Faelwolf Yes, the same screwdrivers I used to build my benchrest 30-06 are now my designated carb drivers! Most motorcycle guys like guns anyways so really a set of hollow ground drivers/bits will pay for themselves quickly. Theyve disassembled my zx9r's CVK40's several times, then used them to put a new scope on my rem 700 the same day. xD

I'm just about to disassemble a 1997 Yamaha XJ600 carburettor and waiting for all new screws, wondered about the springs, checking measurements, whether to replace, couldn't see any direct mention of them in the several carb videos......loved the videos

There's a better screwdriver mod. Common wedge-shaped screwdrivers are flattened as they are to save production costs. They do not belong in carb jets or any soft fastener slots.
Use "hollow ground" flat tip screwdrivers or bits also known as "gunsmith" screwdrivers on brass and other soft fasteners. That's what they are designed for. The hollow ground tip is precise and the sides where the screw engages are square to the slot. You don't need to buy screwdrivers listed for guns since common multi-kit screwdrivers and the bits sold for use in drills etc are hollow ground. You can buy long shank bits (ALWAYS use ROUND shank bits for clearance in recessed holes) too and most hardware stores carry them or save time and shop online.
You can find round shank bits which stay centered in recessed carb jets because they are a close slip fit in the hole. Bring a carb body when you go shopping.
Hollow ground is very good but can be specifically improved for doing carb jets. Instead of the profile you see here (example image) images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/51xT1IZtcfL.jpg
use a thin CUTTING disk in a Dremel to make your jet screwdriver tips like this )( side view.
Take your time and if you have a magnifying glass, use it. Leave the factory straight edge across the tip. You are only altering the flanks. You now have a tip which will grab the most supported (and typically least damaged by previous "mechanics") portion of the jet which is the very bottom of the slot. It's not my idea (credit to "Motorcycle Mike" Vedas) but I've been using it successfully since the 1980s.
