i snapped the 4990 motor shaft too. i just think the truck is too heavy for the 5mm shaft with more power than stock. i switched to the 5690 for the stronger 8mm shaft and mod 1.5 gearing instead. no problems so far.

I have the same setup almost. Max6 g2, 1650kv, m2c chassis brace and m2c wide kit, but bowhouse motor mount is hands down best motor mount. That pnw has vertical slots for the motor mount screws and they will slow move the mesh closer and closer together. Especially with your epic bashing lol I built me a ramp just like yours, just to scared to use it full throttle yet.
Hey Thunder! The cause for the schaft breaking is the recess it has. It tapers from 6 mm to 5 mm, and that is a natural breaking point. I broke one on my xmaxx, and i have two more friends who broke the same motor, on their xmaxx's, on the exact same spot. I bet yours broke in the same spot 😅. That motor is a beast, it has alot of power, and is so smooth, BUT it is clearly not good for bashing on xmaxx, who flexes so much. There is another TH-camr who broke that motor on a Outcast 8S, so... After i broke mine, i tore apart that rotor, and big surprise: in the center, the schaft is 8 mm, then tapers to 6 mm (inside) and then to 5 mm (outside). I really don't know why HW did that..and they don't even offer the rotor as a spare part.. The solution is the 1250SN (g2) motor. You won't break that 8mm rotor 😂

That Maxx Slash Truggafied is bonkers... Quad was HUGE! I'd put that M2C copy (😂😉) brace back on there and that plastic top brace back on there, way too much flex from tower to tower.... Even that top brace helps as it connects to several points on the chassis allowing flex but limiting it somewhat. I hate replacing that brace as well, I've broken more than 5 and I don't run my XMaxx that often. Bummer on that motor shaft. I have a 1280kv from my Outcast that's got a 80mm shaft I think it runs perfect if you have one lying around. See ya round brother
I was curious to fix a high power cheap drone like a mjx bugs or the newer version to a 1/10 RC and see what happens on regular non flipping jumps . Might have to start with a 1/16 😂
Did you have a rear motor support for the motor? That would help a lot to preserve the motor and gears. The xmaxx flexes a lot as you know. You can probably drop in the m2c rear motor support when you get a new motor.
So with the PNW rc motor mount the rear motor support doesn’t work because it creates a hinge point. I had a block of wood under motor supporting it perfectly. Motor mount was solid as a rock. I just thing that the motor shaft was not up to the job that I was given it.
Nothing is preventing the motor from springing with the chassis the other direction. That’s the problem with heavy bashing using any composite chassis.
Also the new hobby wing 1250kv max6 combo has a bigger motor shaft maybe give that motor a try your motor mount will hold it just fine I’ve never broken mine I have bow house motor mount witch is almost exactly to the pnw mount

Rocky, if that motor is new...you have a warranty on it. Sure it will take a while for them to send you a new one, or new internals. Go through the process, don't loose that $150.

Yup, i snapped 1650kv motor shaft, and later on, the hobbywing 6 esc blew up 😆 wished I had the camera rolling at the time. Stock is the way to go.
