We took it a step further and installed the 4s system from the Maxx into it. Then changed out the Spur gear to a 46 mm and kept the pinion the same and it drove well. On 6s it has no throttle control which annoys us. We also had an esc break 2 weeks into owning it which Traxxas insisted we send back to them before sending a replacement. During this down time is when we installed the 4s VXL system. That said, after purchasing the 6s Mojave, it quickly became clear the Maxx/Slash is not in the same universe as the Mojave. Its a toy versus a sophisticated piece of engineering. We ended up trading out of it for an Scx6. Lack of throttle control on 6s, massive debris buildup in what is a completely exposed chasis and a lack of speed on 4s, as well as terrible handling and a Receiver that continually lost reception routinely after only 100 to 150 feet out. All of this and more not mentioned lead us to that decision of getting rid of it. Yes. We lost money but the good news is Traxxas won't get our business again. The other aspect is, the Mojave handles awesome onroad and off. I have the V2 version but I dont think there is much difference from the V1 version with the exception of the upgrades servo and esc.

You mentioned the radio and the ability to store different vechiles but unlike the DX5, if you plan on using the same TQI radio, you will have to rebind every time you switch vechiles. You may also have to also recalibrate the esc more often as well. This radio and receiver combonation has given me nothing but problems with constant loss of reception.

I enjoy your content and respect what you have to say I totally disagree with you on this its 5 out of 10 out of the box. I own several Traxxas rc's I have defended them on my channel but I cant defend this. Your saying they charge 6s price but run it on 4s then its good that is ridiculous. Especially they advertise 70mph and it cant do it not out of the box thats false advertising. Good luck trying in stock form the servo saver is so lax it cant hold the wheels straight lots of people mention they cant get the trim set right and that is why. Little did I know my tqi was off so that made it totally horrendous to drive I called Traxxas they said its a level 6 car go 4s Number one my 4s packs for me much more powerful XRT and X maxx wont fit this plug so now I need another Traxxas battery thats insane! Then they told me to mail in at my cost the transmitter and receiver. Pathetic and inexcusable they dont know their own products. Luckily one of my viewers noticed the receiver was flashing a green light he told me to hold the bind button until a red flash then the light was a steady green and tqi was on! I drove with the body off in grass not a low traction loose dirt environment I saw the tires would just turn full lock with no input I checked the servo saver it had no tension that design is a joke. The suspension is a joke the front springs are too weak nd the shock oil is too thick the rear end tries to launch over the front on any high speed bump. You never mentioned how the tires hit the body but you said you run it stock clearly you cranked the pre tension down on the front the tires hit and the chassis is the biggest trash can for dirt and debris ever! The body breaks at the bed because they did not make the skeleton go all the way. I am sure by now if your still driving it all the tires have come unglued and the pinion came loose. Out of the box its rubbish no excuse for that at all. I have no problem hammering mine on 6s now that I changed the servo saver, servo, front springs, and dropped to 40wt in all 4 shocks so without anti sway bars I dont have any problem with it rolling over anymore I can go full 6s power into a turn and its steady like it should have been so its capable of 6s you need an investment into an already over priced rc. I am not a fan boy of any one company but when its a turd you have to call it a turd. it can be amazing but not out of the box

Thank you for the detailed response. I personally haven’t experienced many of those issues yet. Perhaps a lucky draw on my kit. Still, your fixes sound excellent for the situation. We adjusted nothing on our RC and ran it stock, which is our norm here. Our experience has been good so far. I will look into the fixes you suggest. Thanks again for sharing, AJ

So what is this - from review it seems to be a 4s (if want decent handling) 13 lb $700 flying brick. That's pretty consistent with other reviews I've seen; except, most reviews i've seen consider that a poor value.

Why do you think it is that most people run this on 6s? I'm not sure how less power would make that suspension decent. Did you watch the video? Did you see it bounce like a cheap Chinese truck every single time it lands?
Did you run it on pavement? My worst complaint is being unable to trim it effectively. It turns left or right and pulls randomly from the suspension letting the chassis drag and dig in on acceleration and braking.
It's not fragile. It's not slow. It handles like crap. It's the highest priced in the category.
You specifically kept comparing it to the Senton 6s while the Mojave 6s and 4s exist.
It earned its bad rap. If someone watches this and buys this over a better truck, that's not helping the community.
I've driven 2 if these trucks. Even the owners of them admitted both Mojave's handled, jumped, and landed better. 1 if them has already sold this and bought a 4s Mojave after driving both back to back. He also lost a couple hundred bucks in the process.
I'm not saying your wrong or lying about anything specific. I can't help but think you kept saying 6s Senton in order to accomplish that. The 6s Mojave being on sale for $529 recently just made this truck that much less a value.

    • @AJJAMStudios
      @AJJAMStudios  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

AJ picked the Senton because it handles more like it. There are many RCs out there that fit this slot in the market. The Mojave series is awesome, true. Thanks for commenting 😎👍

I think the value is about a 6 out of 10 for me. Every traxxas I own , I gut out the electronics . They definitely should have addressed the elephant in the room , Electronics. That’s where they lose a lot of the value points .

    • @XWXW-lk4jf

Exactly! I have owned tons of vechiles at this point so for me, especially for vechiles that are this expensive, my expectation is that you have a vechiled that Firstly, can perform as advertised. They sold it as a 6s truck yet it is virtually uncontrollable on 6s. It is both overgeared and overbatteried for this system and platform. It has no throttle control on 6s. If you lightly touch the trigger it will surge and/or cog. A $300 dollar Redcat Valkyrie puts this to shame in that category and every other one as well. When the lightest touch of the trigger causes a $700 truck to launch forward as opposed to inching forward like a higher quality RC with a better system would do, then it has no business being a $700 vechile. I am not saying it has to be sensored system smooth but every other manufacturer offers vechiles with smooth throttle control and the proper gearing out of the box. The Traxxas Maxx in fact offers good throttle control but vechiles like this and the Sledge as well as their 3s line, especially when being run on 6s and 3s feel completely mismatched for what the system is truly designed for. Basically their 6s system runs better (albeit slower) on 4s and their 3s system better on 2s. Either that, or you have to drop the gearing down. Either way, their systems does not campare favorably to the competition.

I’ve watched many videos on this truck and it seems to be quite polarising !I have to say I was never in the market for one. But it’s an expensive vehicle as a 6s more than the Mojave exb . Which I do own. But it is advertised as a 6s vehicle but, you and others are saying it’s better on 4 s ! In which case it’s an extremely expensive vehicle, in my opinion. There are many very good 4s versions of the same style, so it has failed in the most basic way. It’s an expensive 6s that runs better on four and out priced as a 4s car. Why would anyone spend that much on it? I certainly wouldn’t. Nice video, interesting as always

Yup. If it's better on 4s, you're paying for a lot of unused "oomph"
It seems to me Traxxas is doing the Samsung thing of making their truck look better on paper than it is in real life.
The "specs" are nice, but you can't use them.
That's like putting a 300 horsepower engine into a wooden rickshaw. Yeah, the 300 HP engine rips and it's great, but have fun trying to drive it...no...you can't drive it that way.

I have been waiting for this video!! You and Razor RC are my favorites.
This truck seems awesome. I think it gets a bad rep because it simply doesn't jump well or fly as well as some other SCTs (belted tires make it difficult to rotate in the air, body has more parachute affect, tires aren't the grippiest) so people tend to trash on the handling, both in the air and on the ground. But as someone who owns both style Arrma Mojave, the Maxx Slash I believe will be my next purchase. It seems to suit my style of RC to the tee. Gonna have to add it to the SCT collection!

I own the Maxx Slash and run it on a backyard track. She gets sent about 40ft out, 8-12 ft high.
I had concerns about the car holding up. It looks "breakable" and the front suspension is soft.
With that being said, I've seen this thing cart wheel a painful distance. It has collided with the same tree twice at low and high speed. My wife (new driver) learned to jump this car. It has: cased doubles, launched face first into hard pack dirt, etc.
Nothing has broken. This thing is like Rocky Balboa. Do yourself a favor. Glue the tires and adjust the front suspension. Traxxas ships the car with short front springs. Wasn't thrilled about that but it works fine after adjustment. AJ def adjusted those shocks or at a bare minimum, noticed early on when running the vehicle.

Meh. It’s durable, I’ll give it that.
Still trying to wrap my head around a $700 truck that has to be dialed back to 4s to have decent handling. Think I’d feel better putting that $700 toward a UDR, which looks better and has the classic body lean / suspension travel (just 💩to wrench on). Or maybe split the difference with a Mojave.

The value thing is a double edge sword. It is expensive, but it is not an entry level car. I bought two and love them and only broke a servo on one. My fault. But my Mojave 4s was $500 and every bit of fun.

Late to the party. lol. I have a pair of them and for what they are they are great cars. One is bone stock and it does great in high traction smoother fields. My modded had a stock drivetrain. But I added sway bars, played with springs and shock fluids. Put a decent servo and it is fun and extremely durable. There's a certain TH-camr below that I unsubbed to because of his overall negativity on the car. I try to support just about everybody that does RC TH-cam, but I have my limits.

It definitely don’t need a quicker steering servo cause on 6s mine was impossible to hit full trigger… steering was too sensitive and couldn’t keep a straight line… I linked to my radiolink transmitter and set steering throw to 45% and was much more manageable…all in all I don’t regret getting it just throttle control is a must …

Part of AJ's background is creating music. This makes his outlook slightly different on that score, however, we've taken to muting the music during certain videos, especially during the running footage, so the viewers can hear the RCs run. It is a compromise, but we are happy to make things more exciting for the viewers if we can. We are aware that musical differences exist between individuals and picking a music type for a video can be off putting for those who do not appreciate the type we may choose, so it is a fair compromise. @@RC-4-LIFEI like to pay more to buy a good product from a reputable company with excellent warranty, but for my first 2 RCs I went with Arrma.
Traxxas are greedy, wanting $250 for a brushed 2WD truck.
They try to force customers into their proprietary battery connectors, they offer so little value per dollar spent.
Traxxas is the greediest RC company by far.
Have you seen their $125 hex driver set ? It's like 8 manual hex drivers !
The only thing Traxxas do better than Arrma out the box is better servos.
But a new servo costs $30, and if you have Traxxas $30, that might buy you a potato and a toothpick.
Sure Traxxas spare parts cost less than Arrma, but I'll be much happier paying slightly more for spares, to a company (Arrma) who actually gives a shit about their customers and their wallets.
Traxxas is the Apple of RC cars: offering their dumb, too-loyal customers less value for 3 times the price, while suckering in folks with proprietary garbage, fooling them into believing they're getting the best quality, just because it's the most expensive.
