  • I’ve had a great experience with ‪@mysteryranch‬ bags in the past. They’re well-made, well-designed and made to last. Just super pragmatic stuff.
I’ve recently been really into messenger type bags, so I asked them to send me their revamped 3-Way Briefcase and a new product, the District Pro.
After about two weeks of use, here are my first impressions of both.
TLDR: The briefcase is big but super versatile and rigid. The District Pro is more sporty, but also versatile and more agile.

Glad to hear it! I’ve really enjoying using both of these messengers over the last couple of months. Each one has its own feel and look. Still, both would be a great choice for someone looking a quality pack. Let me know which one you get!

Thank you for putting together this video. These are two bags I would probably scroll right past on the Mystery Ranch site. I look forward to hearing how the trip went, what bag you chose, and how it held up. Love that you went all in with the Mystery Ranch shirt as well!

Haha, they sent the shirt along with the bags. I appreciated the friendly gesture, because seriously, who the heck am I? So far, the bags have both been fun to use and although I probably wouldn’t recommend someone buying both, I think they both serve their niche well so far given the knit-picks I mentioned. Always a pleasure to hear from you, JC.

Hey Zach! That’s honestly the best compliment someone can give me. The whole point of this channel is to help people find the right bag for them without gimmicks. I hope you enjoy the District Pro. I like the idea of doing a video with modding the Velcro. I’ll do it!

Thank you for the review. I hope they use zipper, magnets, or even snap buttons instead of velcro. In my opinion, bag should last over ten years, but the lifespan of velcro is very poor. from my experience, if hook and loop are used frequently like this, then it will lose its strength pretty quick. I understand that bag companies often use velcro for some part (inside, or for patch attachment) of their bag, but not sure what leads some of the bag companies to use velcro for major functionality parts like opening and closing, especially when they are noisy and not glad to use. Maybe cutting cost will be the major reason?
My adidas hat which uses velcro adjustment loses its strength only after 6 months. So the lifespan of entire hat is over.
In this bag as well, if it loses its stickness over time, the front pocket will not be very secure, and I would not put any of them there.
I like the design of this district pro so much, though. If they did not use velcro, it was the instant buy for me. the popular timbuk2 classic messenger bag uses the velcro like this, and I stop thinking buying it after I saw reviews saying that velcro loses its functionality and they had to buy a new bag due to this issue.

I hear you about the Velcro. I am personally not terribly concerned with it, because even if the Velcro starts to die over time, I’ll mute them and install magnets. Still, the rest of the bag and it’s functionality are pretty great.

Velcro noise acts as an anti-theft feature. Similar to their Street Zen model.

That’s a good call. I didn’t think about that. Generally if I’m in a crowd, I swing my messengers to the front of me, that way I don’t worry about someone reaching in.

District Pro -- Not really a fan of that front pocket. The velcro is not office friendly. That flap would annoy me. The side button/side zipper opening on that pocket looks like stuff falling out to me. I think a top zipper drop pocket with no flap would have been better. A large unzippered drop pocket on the backside to stash the shoulder strap would have been good too. I also generally prefer to have a separate laptop compartment where possible just to better protect the electronics from the other stuff in the main compartment. Otherwise, it looks a pretty good bag and something I would try out. Thanks for the review.

I’ll keep a look out on those concerns and see if they affect me during the use period. I agree that the Velcro is a tad frustrating, but they can be muted and magnets installed with little fuss. For a bag like this, I didn’t expect a separate laptop compartment. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE isolated laptop compartments, but on a messenger, I haven’t used one. Diving deeper, I did notice that some of the internals can be removed. So, I’m going to mess around with that a little bit and see how it works. Overall, I’ve been digging using the District Pro despite some of the quibbles.

District Pro can put 17" notebook inside? thanks

    • @ofthetraveler
      @ofthetraveler  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

It seems like it’s possible to put a 17 inch in the main compartment, not the laptop sleeve, I can’t confirm though, my laptop is 13.5. But, their website says it fits up to a 15 inch, so 17 may be a stretch.
