This is such a good video. So clear in its direction and also clear of distractions (take note EVERY American Millennial who has made ANY video, especially on health trackers). The best I have seen to help me research the Whoop. I'm a health professional and I appreciate your understanding of the data as well as how you explain it.
After watching this video for 14 minutes, I still don't really understand how collecting all this data actually improves your life? What does it tell you, that you don't already know by listening to your body?
I see some utility if you have some physical condition, like in the heart or something. Also it gives some information on oxygen levels and stuff. But unless you need that info it seems like consumerism to me. And social signaling.
I use a Huawei watch for cycling, and there are some genuinely useful things it tells me. It will tell me how much time I spent with different metabolism (aerobic vs anaerobic), and it will give me a grade for how much of an improvement that particular session has made for me in both metabolic processes, which is important to me since I do sprints. It also measures strain and estimates my recovery time, which I find genuinely useful, along with tracking my speed and route. But by far the most useful thing is actually telling me how long I've slept for, and I'd get the whoop strap for the sleeping metrics. This is because I have sleeping difficulties. :') The point is, my regular watch has all the features that are genuinely useful to me in what I do, so the whoop makes no sense, but sleeping data would be very beneficial to me because I have difficulties, so I think this is only really useful to people who have a genuine need for it :)
I think it is targeted at high performing athletes who care about this data. I wear it and my coach uses the data that uploads to my Training Peaks every day to monitor my recovery and fatigue throughout training blocks. If I wasn't an athlete I would not wear one. I think the regular person should get a smart watch and get way more functionality, but for me this is the best option!
Steps tracking has been added as of this month. How is your experience with that. Does this track blood oxygen all day? Does it track heart rate throughout the day?
It tracks heartrate constantly through the day and night. You can see detailed data of exactly what your heartrate was the whole time you are wearing the sensor. It only tracks oxygen while you're sleeping, and uses that to calculate recovery. If your oxygen is low or your temperature or respiratory rate is high while you're sleeping, that suggests you might be ill, so it will give you a lower recovery score and recommend that you rest more that day. It doesn't give real-time information about your oxygen or temperature.
0-21 in strain is because of "borg scale", really old actually. Health professionals uses all the time with patients. That-s why they choose 0-21 scale
Hey, I have a question, I'm new to WHOOP, first week. Is there an option to add friends in your circle, something like in Apple Fitness, where you can compete with your friends? I know there is a community tab where you can join in groups.
You don't pay for the watch, though. It's around £230 outright for a 12 month membership (free watch) and as long as you're a member you get the newest watch free as well. It's like having a phone contract, I guess.
@@bethel2k I’m not doing subscriptions for devices. I want to buy it and own it. I’m glad Apple announced quite a few Apple Watch features that overlap with Whoop. I could own an Apple Watch and not pay a subscription.

This includes your activities, but also Strain you might accumulate from just going about your day. Activity Strain can be further broken down into cardiovascular and muscular load. This means that the Strain of individual activities won't add up to your total Day Strain. Instead, the higher your Strain gets, the harder it is to build more." There's a bit more, but currently on the free trial to see how I like it. Definitely feel a difference vs the apple watch. As I can forget its on my arm vs the extra weight of the AW.

Been playing with the idea of getting a Whoop. But I can’t justify wearing something else other than a watch. I hate accessories. I don’t wear rings. But I wear a watch. So an Apple Watch + Athlytic does the same as a whoop 🤷🏻♂️ And a lot cheaper. Do I need all this data? I don’t know. But I’m learning what my behaviour (food, rest, alcohol, etc) means for my health data.
The Whoop battery lasts way longer than the apple watch. I really don't like having to charge my apple watch every day. I will never upgrade because the battery life makes the sleep features the newer apple watch models have obsolete.
The worst thing is that the data is consistently poor and frequently it is objectively wrong.
