  • Time for the ultimate Xiaomi 14 Ultra versus Pixel 8 Pro camera comparison to see which device is better at capturing photos and videos. The Xiaomi 14 Ultra definitely has the upper hand when it comes to overall hardware, but Google's computational photography on the Pixel 8 Pro may give it the upper hand in this matchup.

    Yes, Xiaomi has worse HDR. But when you take picture with iPhone and Sony A9 II, sony will have worse HDR than iPhone. Does it mean that iPhone is better camera? To be honest, I prefer look of the photos from Xiaomi much, much more. They are more natural. Some time ago when pixel introduced that HDR look, everyone was hating it. Now it is standard in smartphones, and I am not a big fan of it. So I am just glad that we have some variety of devices with different look, so everyone can find something for him/herself.

    The pixel is a great camera phone for your instagram and social media ready shots, just like the iPhone and S24 ultra....From a photographers point of view the Xiaomi 14 ultra is in a completely different league, years ahead from a technology and processing point of view - it's the closest thing to a dedicated point and shoot camera that you can get right now.

    Wow, very surprised to see the Pixel 8 Pro do so well considering the huge price difference here in the UK, there were some situations where I preferred what I was seeing from the Pixel, others where I felt the Xiaomi was technically better, especially if I was to tweak in post but, as a point and shoot, I was surprised the Pixel 8 Pro did so well (computational photography making up for the smaller sensor size?) against a phone camera that everyone's talking about, along with the Oppo and Vivo rivals.

      Yes, I agree with you. I feel bad for Xiaomi, they invested heavily in the hardware of the 14 Ultra, I would like to have those lenses and sensors in my phone, but they are a generation behind in the post-processing contest. I already have a point-and-shoot Canon G7X that does almost no post-processing, it's basically the same as the Xiaomi here.
      Samsung, Google and Apple phones are much ahead in the software battle.

    • @joelconolly5574
      @joelconolly5574 17 วันที่ผ่านมา +9

      @@marvcar Xiaomi more realistic to the scene's lighting and shadows. Pixels even out the lighting so some parts aren't overblown or underexposed. Stylistically you can do more with Xiaomi but Pixels are unfortunately as it is. It's not about canera software being better than others. It's about philosophy of photography. But bigger sensor far better for much tougher conditions.

    The Pixel has artificial dynamic range, called HDR. Therefore pictures look computerised as with a lot of phones.

  • @georget10i
    @georget10i 17 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

    Pixel still likes to raise shadows a bit too much for my liking. For example, at 2:20 the Ultra preserved the atmosphere better, the Pixel raised the shadows too much, flattening the image and taking the focus away from the main subject in the background. At 2:50 the car's tire is too bright on the Pixel, it's almost white; on the Ultra it's black, as it should be. On the other hand Pixel handled challenging conditions better. At 3:50 and 4:35 the Ultra really clipped the light. I preferred the Pixel in video overall, surprising because video is usually Pixel's weakspot. Night shots were close too, but I prefer the way Ultra handles artificial light, Pixel washes away colour at 8:44, and at 10:15 Ultra handles the light in a more pleasant way. Very close overall though, you can't go wrong with either. Which begs another question, is it even worth going through the effort of importing the Ultra?

    • @protoping
      @protoping 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      that is why you have a shadow slider on the pixel

    • @georget10i
      @georget10i 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@protoping I don't know how it is on on the newer Pixels, but on the older ones you have to tap to focus to activate it, which is not idea. I would prefer not to touch focus at all, as in my experience with Pixels, automatic focus seems to get everything sharper than manually focusing. Plus, those adjustment levers are tiny, and imprecise. From these examples it is evident that the camera raises shadows too much, Pixels hate shadows. It needs to be lowered in auto mode.

    • @marvcar
      @marvcar 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I think Pixel is closer to what our eyes see, it is closer to our perception in terms of shadows and highlights than the Xiaomi 14 Ultra. It is a shame, because the hardware in the Xiaomi had a lot of potential

    Looking at the photos from the 14 ultra makes me think how i want to edit them. But the photos from p8p looks like i won't even look twice at them. They are way too over-processed , colors are bad, highlights and shadows don't have any character and let's not forget oversharpening . Pixel photos remind why i stopped doing photography with my phone camera.

    Thanks for the beautiful comparison between the 2 phones. It's kinda a mix bag. On one hand, the Pixel is reigning supreme and on the other the Xiaomi is excelling. However, although you pointed out the shortcomings of the Xiaomi, `I'd still pick it up for a few points: 1- The One Inch Sensor and where it's doing a good job at night. 2- the color rendition is much butter on Xiaomi. 3- Pixels uses high ISO therefore, it's images come brighter and more detailed in shadowy areas but at the same time the image quality is noisy. Thanks.

    I like the way Xiaomi controls the face exposure in darker situations although it might not be completely accurate to real life conditions but I personally like it better
    But when it comes to environmental exposure control there's absolutely no doubt that pixel does it better, it seems every camera has a problem with exposure control, when there's too much light and too little on some parts of a subject the camera just outright can't focus on both areas unlike the pixel, the pixel also keeps focus and precision better,
    But well done to Xiaomi still.

    Pixel's dynamic range is artificial, based on HDR, and hence computerised. Good for the casual and unpretentious point-and-shoot social media snapshots, whilst the Xiaomi reminds me of real photography of the old. One had to make choices. Which part of the photo needs to be properly exposed and one had to adjust Ev, shutter speed and aperture. Furthermore, I don't find it necessary to see everything in the shadows. Blacks can give stills that special ethos.

This way, my first choice will be Xiaomi. On the other hand the people who like to click and share and don't like to edit their pics and vids, Pixel is a good option. And why doesn't anyone mention how overexposed all the photographs are on the Xiaomi 14 Ultra??? It's what stands out the most and no one says it...I don't understand it. The Pixel 8 Pro is clearly superior and that's without use UltraHDR with the maximum resolution of all the sensors, whose processing is better and more natural, which then literally destroys it, and let's not talk about Video Boost (I don't understand why it hasn't been used in the comparison), since it is superior in every way, especially in low luminosity. If you have resources in the P8P it is to use them, and even without using them, it clearly surpasses the Xiaomi 14 Ultra. In addition, it heats up and drains the battery, on the other hand, The P8P has clean and fluid software, without advertising, with continuous updates and improvements, it does not need a one-inch sensor to be the better, as seen in the video. I don't understand TH-camrs' obsession with not using UltraHDR and Video Boost in comparisons. If they did, the P8P would be even higher. that how I know? Very simple, because I have the P8P, and I bought the Xiaomi 14 Ultra at launch, I compared them and the P8P was better in everything, and when I saw the problems with the X14U, I returned it a week after buying it

    You supposed to give your viewer correct information..it is never good to sharpen up the picture with too much HDR like what pixel does... Also it is clearly shows how stronger and better is Xiaomi at lower light and darker scenes in video and photos at controlling highlights and color reproduction.
    Physics can not be beaten and Xiaomi has much better and bigger sensors and this always shows in lower light situation not sunny and bright environments.
    In bright environments almost all flagships are more than good with little difference.
    It is the lower light environments tgat makes them apart specially shows the hardware strength.
