I don't know what it is with American engine builders, but they seem to be the most down to earth people that you could spend forever picking their brains and they would be happy talking to you. That last comment Jay said, if he tears it up, we'll do it again. What a legend!

Did you re use the main bolts? Wasn’t sure if I can do that.
Learned something. Was having trouble with my rings poping out my compressor. Going to try push it down faster.
Also met Jay at Real Street last year when i visited the place with my gf. Awesome guy.
Poor Ricky had to learn the hard way how to build an engine hahaha too funny hopefully that was planned and staged if not let's have a moment of silence for his thumb 🤣

I have a question i am building a engine to with a friend of my its our first time so i think i will bump on a couple of things but yeah that's the experience you need to build 😉
I want to change my pistons but dont know wich compression ratio i should use its a k20a2 and want to drive it on pump gas octaan 98 and have 1200cc injectors
And have a precision 6262bb turbo
Maybe around 10.0:1 or 9.0:1 and wich pistons to use cp or wiseco and rods manley h-beam?

I had a question about the motor being timed. Before taking the motor Apart should it be at TDC? And similarly when putting pistons rods in do we have to check if it’s in TDC or can we only set the timing once after assembly with the timing marks?

I did not see the cams being degreed. I am hoping that was done in the pre-assembly. Stacked tolerances are an issue for every engine ever made. From a flat-head to f1. That’s my one gripe on an otherwise great video.

I wonder why you use the oil squirters whit forged pistons & other people they eliminate those for more oil pressure 🧐 because the forged pistons don’t need lubrication

Some things are difficult. Having Jay assemble your engine is not one of those difficulties.
I think he was being too careful with not make a mistake..(can you use a thicker gloves for beginners??
I would love to see a volvo turbo whiteblock 4 or 5 cylinder engine, underrated and pretty good in my opinion.

Washing your hands after handling the block exterior... Now that's a strange one! I would never have thought of that, yet when you think about it, it makes perfect sense.
In a way you're a surgeon Jay, and you know contamination can ruin your work. Proper "disinfection" is critical.

Extremely well produced and very detailed video. I totally love the Bob Ross part, Ricky was like "Bob Ross who"?? Jay and Real St. keep up the great videos, these help lift the fog for all who have never built an engine before. My old man was with Honda for 28 years and him and I have built a few engines (in stock form) and when I showed him this video he was like "this guy knows what he is doing, and you can tell he's done this for a long time".
100 mile run in for a full rebuild what you recommend?
Such mixed opinions on running in. Just done my first 100 on a fresh build but plan on doing 600 -800 run in miles whilst also bedding in new clutch before going for tuning

Hey Jay; when you went back to double check the torque specs on the timing assembly, did you swap your socket out for an extension with a chrome socket and bump up the torque wrench to reach that torque spec slower? Assuming the extension absorbs some of that torque force?

I'd like to add an option to those that may not know. There are air powered oil primers that can be used to pre-lube before start up. You just hook the hose to the oil sender passage to feed oil to the whole engine. This should only be done RIGHT before firing to not remove the high quality assembly oil off the journals if you don't intend on starting it right away.

why would you start the engine with out priming it? is there a reason not to pull the fuel pump fuse and crank it till you have oil pressure?
That wouldn't give you oil on journals without spinning crankshaft.
Real priming is to push oil through system without spinning crankshaft.
But anyway that's good extra safety mesure
@@el_kuks yeah but you are always going to lube it with something while you assemble the engine. he says here th-cam.com/video/0x7WXjGQNaM/w-d-xo.html that you arent going to prime the oil system and you will start it with a few seconds of no oil pressure. you can absolutely fill the system by cranking it over with the fuel pump disconnected.
