It really is. Wonder how old people in the 80s thought of C4 Corvettes costing 20k when C2 was under 5k in general. Cost, inflation, depreciation are never static. They move with time. Only some people's perception of value doesn't.
I don't blame you though. You got snakes in politician's trench coats blocking you from earning a living wage that also increases with time and half the population still drinks the kool-aid. While the politicians and their friends and family swipe billions that should've been earned by you lot.

I like the idea of it. A modern station wagon with AWD and hybrid gas mileage but not slow. I think it's about $5k to $10k too much but sadly folks will over pay for so many vehicles these days, If they ever have a sale, I would consider it. Made in Japan is a bonus to me.

I do wish the XLE came with self leveling headlights. I think it's crazy that you have to adjust the headlight height with a dial?? Never heard of that. They don't seem to project the light far enough. If you drive at night a lot you might want to give the XLE a test drive at night. I still cant get past the lack of a spare tire. “This car is not dynamic” meanwhile 0-60 is 7 seconds, a Acura TLX aspec gets there at 6.1 seconds for comparison, but it averages half the MPG’s and needs premium fuel. Also this car is not front wheel drive bias lol. It has a separate electric motor for the rear for re-gen braking and sends 20:80 when needed or for cornering (similar to G vectoring of SHAWD). The engineers for this car are genius that’s why it costs so much. And I say that as a Toyota hater (I drive a K5).

I'd say this is more of a tall wagon than a crossover. Dimensionally, it's only about 1.5" taller than the Prius V wagon while being about 11" longer. Sure the ground clearance is like 1" taller, but 6.7" isn't going to get you anywhere off road. It just doesn't have enough ground clearance to be an SUV/CUV. There's plenty of tall cars that aren't crossovers, and I feel like this falls into that camp. Mazda 5, Ford C-Max, Scion XB, Prius V, Nissan Leaf, just to name a few. I'm fine with them calling it an SUV though, because I hope with them making it a bit taller, they trick more people into wanting these things and maybe the wagon segment will see a bit of revitalization here in the states.

I think in some ways, the Crown is similar in its place in the Toyota/Lexus-verse the way the 5th gen 4Runner is to its GX460/LC Prada cousins. The 4Runner is made in the same factory, uses common parts and driveline (it’s 4L is still used in the LC 300 in the Middle East) and gets the benefits of a great build quality and reliability. You get a discount for not having all of the luxury or tech items. The crown is kind of like that to its Lexus soft roader cousins. It’s a little less luxurious and a lot better looking. In Japan, the Crown badge is popular with businessmen and civil servants who want Lexus comfort but want to fly under the radar…. While $50k is high, I think that this may be a deal for the next owner… you don’t pay the Lexus premium but get a good looking luxury car. I always look for an imbalance in the market and this looks to be the next one. It’s the reason I picked up a 4Runner recently and how I got my Acura TSX Sportwagon for less than a comparable CRV

When Toyota flies you to do a car review what class airline tickets do they give you? Toyota paid for both of you to fly? Where in Texas? Do they give you a per diem for hotels and food? Don’t take my questions wrong. I realize they do it for other automotive journalists as well. Asking for a friend.

Like the Venza (which I own) it’s an overpriced Toyota not “Lexus light”. $50K plus for a raised Toyota wagon with prop rods for the hood, a stupid looking non-opening sunroof and 1-hybrid engine choice is not acceptable. The Venza Limited is NOT Lexus like and this car isn’t as well. This car needs to be 5-10k less expensive.

What kind of world do we live in where we have a car which is bigger than the Venza and the RAV4 and yet its interior is not roomier than both vehicles.? In fact it is smaller. I cannot understand the logic behind this vehicle. I wish it had the room of an Avalon for front passengers hips, head and legs. Also, that central console gets on the way when trying to relax my legs or stretch them out. Big disappointment for me
