Great review. That performance was at Woodstock. He had a reputation for "feeling" the music. For a contrast that really shows how emotional his performance can be take a look at "You are so Beautiful (Nearly Unplugged)" live performance.

John Robert "Joe" Cocker OBE (20 May 1944 - 22 December 2014) was an English singer known for his gritty, bluesy voice and dynamic stage performances that featured expressive body movements. Most of his best known singles were recordings of songs written by other song writers, though he composed a number of songs for most of his albums as well, often in conjunction with song writing partner Chris Stainton. Directly after Woodstock, Cocker released his second album, Joe Cocker! Impressed by his version of "With a Little Help from My Friends", Paul McCartney and George Harrison allowed Cocker to use their songs "She Came In Through the Bathroom Window" and "Something" for the album. Recorded during a break in touring in the spring and summer, the album reached number 11 on the US charts and garnered a second UK hit with the Leon Russell song, "Delta Lady". He released a total of 22 studio albums over a 43-year recording career. Peace out.

Joes phenomenal love his voice and his music. Bro you know how you said if you could go to any concert you gotta check out Nightwish “ghost love score” live at Wacken 2013 such a phenomenal performance the lead singer Floor Jansen combined with the instrumentals of the band is out of this world

One of the things that was so special about Joe Cocker was that he sang with his entire body. His passion was just as beautiful as his voice. This video is from the "original" Woodstock. Here's another artists to give a listen, if interested "BJ Thomas sings "Hooked On A Feeling" Goodnight In America" this another oldie but goodie. Great reaction 😊

It was originally written and recorded by The Beatles, and when Joe asked if he could record it, they said sure. Joe crushed his cover of it, and John Lennon famously said, "I guess it's Joe's song now." You probably heard this from the 80s tv series called "The Wonder Years."
Joe had so much soul. He was probably the top-rated British R&B singer ever, along with Steve Winwood, and Eric Burden. Joe was a solo artist, but he had a Band for touring and concerts , they were called "Mad Dogs and Englishmen."

His band at Woodstock was "The Grease Band."..Mad Dogs and Englishman was a tour (and then album) that he did with Leon Russell, and a whole lot of other folks, a year after this...Legendery, but also notorious tour!

I've heard this version since I was a kid, and only now just learned that the female backing singers were stuck in traffic, and couldn't make it in time..That's why the high voices of the dudes..Lol!..Pretty funny!..Learn something new every day, even 54 yrs. on..Somehow works, though, contrasting Joe's rasp..love it!

He came to Australia late 80s, caught in customs with the green stuff, he delayed the court case as he had 12 concerts to do around Australia, he did lunch time shows and nightly ones in every state completed his contract for the fans , then plead guilty was deported for 5 years, 6 years later he turned up on one of the big islands on the Queensland coast doing it all again singing his heart out

    • @Reject1

He actually had six concerts still to perform...he and five band members were arrested in Adelaide and given 48hours to leave.. they completed two in Melbourne before they were escorted out of the country..

Joe Cocker was from England who started his music career in 1961 and went by the stage name Vance Arnold but dropped the name in 1964. The first time he sang in public he was 12 yrs old when his brother was playing a gig and asked Joe to come up and sing. In 1961 he recorded music but didn't go anywhere, he actually recorded "With A Little Help From My Friends " in 1968, written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, they actually loved Joe's version of their song and were in the studio with Joe while he recorded it and John Lennon played guitar. At the age of 25 Joe Cocker sang this song at Woodstock he's career skyrocketed. Joe Robert Cocker passed away on December 22,2014 of lung cancer in his home in Crawford Colorado at the age of 70 years old. His voice will always be one of the best voices in music history, I was sickened when I saw the he was #97 on the top 100 best vocals of all time. RIP TO THE GREAT JOE COCKER

Unfortunately the female back-up singers got stuck in traffic, hence the guitarist was pressed into duty to sing falsetto. I have to disagree on how good he sounded but commend him for stepping up with what must have been almost zero notice. Try Joe Cocker's Delta Lady, The Letter, You Are So Beautiful or Up Where We Belong (a duet). BTW, not heard a Beatles song? Aside from being impossible, you just did!

ohh wow. did she even make? the guitarist was not great but it worked just because Joe moves a lot and it kind of worked for me lol........oh this was a Beatles song oh wow i need to hear them sing it. I always hear Beatles and abi road together it's all i know

@@CVTECK1 Once you start listening to Beatles songs, I can almost guarantee you'll be familiar with some of them. That Joe Cocker cover was so much more than the Beatles;' original , which they gave to drummer Ringo to sing. In fact, I believe John Lennon told Joe, "It's yours now" once he heard it. There's at least one other live version on TH-cam, this time with the girls. It's at least worth a private listen even if Woodstock was iconic for being a moment in history.

You are correct it was from The Wonder Years.
To see the true power Joe brought to this Beatles classic, check the live version from Woodstock. It is borderline religious experience.
Reacting to your “get him a guitar” Joe was too into the music for an instrument other than his voice. He put all that energy that his dancing generated into that voice, trying to play something else was out of the question.
For another great British live performance do a review / reaction to Phil Collins “In the Air Tonight” live from Europe circa 2004.
