It's a tragedy that this movie didn't do better in theaters. It's the type of sweeping, epic western that doesn't get made any more. I hope that parts 3 and 4 actually get made.
Nonsense. It's like watching paint dry, every scene is a least 3 times as long as it needed to be. The writing is dreadful and the character building is dire. "Sweeping epic western?" What part of that steaming pile of crap was sweeping or epic?
I just wish they would've launched it here in Brazil as well. 'Been craving to see it since the first teaser came out. Shame I'll have to wait a while...
The only thing I didn't like about this movie is how Sam worthington's character was preaching to the victims of the Apache attack as if they were wrong to want to live there or anywhere of their choosing . He might as well have said that it was their fault for being attacked
@@Slappys It's a modern sensibility that Costner injected into a Western. They didn't say indigenous either. They would've called them by their tribal name at least
@@johnmiller4282 Duh. We all know that. It's the most basic idea behind choice. However, I'm talking about the legitimacy of his character actually making a case for the natives. I highly doubt anyone in that time would presume to make those victims feel guilty
Not one of the best. It’s quite convoluted and had lots of storylines that weren’t as well developed even if it’s part of a four part film series. The main reasons the film didn’t do well was because this type of movie doesn’t really connect with many people under 60 and it also released same weekend as Quiet Place Day One.
i'm assuming the movie explains the significance of the pouch and 2 feathers by the boy's head. respect to anyone who can carry a bowie knife like that without it digging into the gut or leg.
Well, it's on the edge. The S&W Model 2 [first cartridge revolver], the Henry Rifle and Spencer Rifle [the first repeating cartridge rifles] were all patented in 1860. However, by 1863 there still weren't enough copper rolling mills to supply the millions of rounds of ammo that the Union Army for the Civil War. So yeah, in California all the revolvers would definitely be cap and ball percussion and all of the shotguns, muskets and rifles would also be either flintlock or percussion. If one guy had a prototype cartridge firearm, it would likely be the only guy in the Territory with it. And his ammo supply would less than 100 rounds.
@@carlhicksjr8401 agreed on some of what you said but they also would have been rim fired not what they all had in shell belts ,, and what about that break open shotgun she was breathing through in the tunnel? In addition to the amazing cinematography and storytelling, the soundtrack was amazing. Loved it.

Just goes to show people have different views. Some love it, and some don't, don't spoil it for everybody, let people decide for themselves.
