If you are looking for a new cosy game with a similar feel (though minus an underlying story) check out my video for new game, Garden In! th-cam.com/video/3b-3Iv8dDJA/w-d-xo.html
One little detail that I loved about the game is that our character starts out packing really haphazardly. Some things needing to be brought into another room after being unpacked. But the way her girlfriend packs is neat and efficient. When they move in together in the new house, our character's boxes are a lot less chaotic, probably due to her girlfriend's either influence, or supervision lmao
A simple thing I enjoyed seeing was how many baby chicks the mother hen was going to have. It was a cute little detail I looked forward to in every move
I honestly think that the reason why there were no recent family picture was because MC's parents are against their current relationship, and MC kept the picture in hopes that they will be accepted by the family someday.
Could be, it's sad that there is the photo of the roommates with MC's family but none of MC's family. I wondered it something happened to her parents because MC seems to have her mum's sewing kit in the final house.
I totally missed that the main character was sick/disabled. I thought the heating pad was for periods and the pills were birth control/allergy meds. The cane...don't ask how that one went over my head lol.
Maybe you thought it was like her parent’s old one or smth It seems weird, but the mc is really sentimental and seemingly has nothing else to remember them by, even if she was still in contact
The baby hasn't been born yet as of the unpacking of the final house -- if you finish the unpacking in the nursery, the caption will indicate that she and her partner are 'looking forward to meeting' the baby. We can be sure that it's one or the other of them having the baby (rather than, say, adopting) by the baby books, one of which is clearly 'What to Expect When You're Expecting,' which is all about the effects of pregnancy and how to cope with them. The miniatures and a painting in the roommate apartment indicate the characters she and her roommates have in their RPG campaign, including the protagonist's bard and a beetle-riding warrior. The Muslim roommate's archer also has a headscarf. One of the roommates (probably the man, given his beetle-riding character) is evidently raising a stick insect at the time she moves in, and by the time she moves into her boyfriend's place, she has a beetle of her own. This survives to her return to her family home, but by the time she has her own apartment, it is gone and she has a painting of a beetle with a halo over it, indicating it has probably died by then. The Muslim roommate appears to be a cosplayer, given the incomplete Sailor Venus costume on a dress form in the living room, and the dummy heads elsewhere, one of which has a wig. The protagonist's girlfriend appears to have a passion for gardening, bringing a selection of tabletop houseplants (mostly succulents) with her, along with some potting soil and other gardening tools. She also has an award of some sort of her own, so she's accomplished in her own right.
I still dont get what the monster head bust was. It arrived along with her girlfriend. Really confused me. Im not sure whether she or her girlfriend brought it. Although you can put the black baseball cap on it to get a sticker.
I also picked up on the pregnancy book, which really opens up possibilities for more representation. Sperm donor? Girlfriend is a trans woman? Polyamory? Really love all those little hidden things.
Seeing the comments about the girlfriend, i actually think she's Thai. There're Thailand temple, elephant souvenirs, the tiger toy, her collection of spices (with fish sauce), the snake statue and some incense sticks.
the main character in this game is a disabled lgbt jewish woman and they also make sure to note that her partner at the end is asian with her rice cooker, dumpling steamers and what appears to be traditional red and gold chinese items in their room, and her friend form uni is a muslim woman. so much hidden representation in such a beautiful and emotional game.
i always felt like they used the radios to talk to eachother and the little note pad and pen was for a dream journal! i love how everyone interprets this game
I spent so long trying to find room for my diploma in the boyfriends apartment, the guy has got 4 dam posters!!!! Who knew a organization game could make me feel so much emotion, it actually hurt my heart when the little star came up as I placed it under the bed 😭 oof
I stuffed mine into their closet when I couldn’t find a place to put it. As I did and the star appeared I felt my heart drop and that he had the audacity to make us hide the diploma, It was just so surprising and seriously rude.
i find it such an amazing detail how when the mc moved in with her boyfriend, she was sticking out like a sore thumb and didn't have her own space, but when her girlfriend moved in, it was like they understood each other on a deeper level, and both of them had the space they needed. i just thought it was a nice indication of the signs of a forever partner
Yeah! You couldn’t even hang her diploma at the bfs house 😢. But when the gf moved in, it felt different,It was so cute seeing both of their clothing styles live in the same closet ☺️
when i played that level i got the line, "i feel so official moving into his place", i think it's because i moved most of his stuff around. that's another great detail that the lines can change
@@beesonskates5212woah, really? I did move around his undies and got 3 drawers for myself but the way his stuff was put and especially how we were not even allowed to move just one music portrait to hang her prized diploma, it just felt that it'll be better not to touch his stuff. In my head it was like "What he gets mad at us?" And like so much in that round..
I thought exactly the same thing!! I remember when I was unpacking her things at her ex I was SO MAD because he didn't let her put her things wherever she wanted to that I started saying "I hope they break up, I hate this guy" and they did!
i really think it would be amazing if they’d add the story from the other woman who she ends up with. i finished the game and got pretty bummed because i really wanna see more & play more.
It would be awesome if they did that. I would also love a dlc in a couple years unpacking the character's child's room when they are the age the MC was in the first level
another detail i really liked is the fact that the pig stuffed animal gets a tear in it as soon as the main character gets with her boyfriend. she's not happy with him and it's a sign she's not. she moves back to her parents house, now heartbroken and even the caption "this room used to seem bigger" tells us she was unhappy. the pig still has a tear. when she moves to her own place, she meets the girlfriend and the big is now stiched up. i thought that was a super sweet detail!
all i could think while playing is "wow she really put a kitchen knife, two bras, a potted plant with soil, and a poster in the same box?!?!" like she does not know how to pack at all. there should be a sequel called packing where we teach her how to do that lol
With the medication and walking stick suddenly I honestly thought the route the game was gonna take was to unpack for the last time in a hospital room or something
I was fully expecting a level where the partner's things slowly disappeared! Very glad it didn't go that way though, I became bizarrely attached to them
The game manages to accomplish a pretty complex story in such a simple way. Her art and characters for her book going back for years as she developed them, her gaining new interests from her roommates (ie the stag beetle she has afterwards), the progression of her medical issues shown through the medication, cane, and brace. You can see her being proud of her Jewish culture as a child, having it hidden away for a few years, and then being reembraced when she moves in on her own. And the simple yet emotional design of the boyfriend’s apartment, you as the player genuinely struggling to find space for your items, her colorful and fun possessions clashing with his very sleek and simple apartment, her having no room for her art supplies and having to work at the kitchen or couch for her art, and the sadness you feel when you realize the ONLY place you can fit your diploma is hidden away under the bed or in the closet. It hits so many points so well and in such a gorgeous and simple manner, genuinely one of my favorite games to date.
I love this game - I can relate to it so much. Just like the character in the game, I went to uni, broke up with my boyfriend, started a relationship with my now girlfriend and developed long term health issues (Fibromyalgia) - Over time my own house has seen more pills, a cane and a wrist brace just like the game. I'm now living happily and content with my girlfriend, but instead of a baby we have a bird. Thank you for this video, there were parts of the story I didn't pick up on before. I appreciate the fact that this game is Australian - as an Australian myself! It's such a great game, and this is a great video.
It's scary how similar our stories can be 😱 I hope you're still content with your life 🤗 It is hard to give up on your dreams, whatever they might be, I still wake up sometimes, forgetting I'm actually sick, need a walker and aren't going away for school or work 🙈🌺
it has religious representation (jewish and muslim), disabled representation, gay representation, asian representation (her gf) AND its australian!? thats all the best things! (thats coming from a genderfluid, bisexual aussie btw)
@@greysonholtz This game is beautiful. So full of representation! Everyone who has left a reply here is so lovely too 💙 I have replayed the game so much now and discovering more details I didn't notice before. My girlfriend bought this game for me without knowing how lovely, or how relatable it would be.
I think the name of the character we play as is Sadie! The reason is because if you are making a new save game and you don't write anything or erase what you did write on the front of the book, it just automatically writes Sadie. So, that's why I think her name is Sadie.
I love all the tiny details the game provides, but maaannnnnn, the sinking feeling I got in my chest when I realized there was NOWHERE to put the diploma other than to stuff it under the bed in the boyfriend's apartment. And as someone who keeps my collection of canes in the umbrella stand, I initially put her cane there as a sort of 'haha, me' moment, and considering how persnickety the game can be about where some things are or aren't allowed to go, I had the most unattractive laugh when it turned out the umbrella stand was, in fact, where the cane was supposed to go. I agree with what a couple other people have said about her getting hurt while rock climbing. The game makes it pretty clear that when she finds a hobby, she takes it with both hands and holds onto it, so for her to have what seems to be a back injury and for rock climbing to be the only hobby to conspicuously disappear seems like too big of a coincidence.
@@raul-aurelianserban8295 I'm pretty sure the game doesn't count that as a valid spot. You are physically capable of putting it there, but the game outlines it in red and makes you move it before letting you move on to the next level.
She either injured her back rock climbing or she has a chronic illness (since she has a wrist brace as well). But either scenario would mean giving up rock climbing
You can also see the story progress by looking at the clothes hangers. All through the story she has cheap, plastic hangers that don’t match and actively clash with the bf’s who has an expensive wooden set. You don’t deal with her clothes in the parent’s house, but when she moves into her own apartment you can see she actually took some of his! The girlfriend, when she moves in, also has mismatched plastic hangers, showing how much more compatible she is than the boyfriend was. And by the end they’ve gotten rid of all the plastic ones and invested in wooden ones of their own :) Edit: Upon further inspection she also took one of his kitchen towels and the little metal trinket he had on his nightstand
A theory my brother and I has as we played through was that the first room wasn't a new house for the family, but the sisters moving in with the grandparents after the loss of their parents. The sewing room just felt 'grandparent-ish' for my brother and I. Though we suspected the cane was not due to an injury the MC suffered, but rather was on hand for visiting grandparents. The theory my brother and I had was very off the mark and likely wrong, but it was still a special experience to come to that point together as we played.
I was thinking in the beginning it was her parents and somewhere between there and that room there was a fall out with her parents for whatever reason and now lives with her grabd parents. Was I right? Probably not but it was fun to think
One thing I noticed is that she took an interest in baking (measuring cups) once she moved with her first boyfriend and she kept expanding on it through the years (by adding more and more baking tools like cookie cutters). Also, she keeps her ex's dishrag until 2015, getting rid of it in 2018. Good riddance!
I think when she moves into the apartment for the first time on her own you also see that she swiped some of his hangers and also his white hoodie which she keeps until her girlfriend moves in with her and they get the house, it's gone by then
I can't help but hyper fixate on the fact that the MC is Jewish. A lot of games where a Jew is the MC its a gorey historical game or if there's a Jewish character they die. So to see one in such a. Cute idle game?? I'm so happy
Yes I loved that it was done so casually, having the main character being Jewish and also having a Muslim character as well. The representation in this game is fantastic 😊
same! im jewish and it didnt take until the menorah that shes jewish (I literally didn't notice the drediels) and its REALLY nice seeing jewish centered that doesn't have the holocaust centered around it
i bought this game not knowing what it was and when I pulled out her girlfriends dresses and relaised she was BI i burst in to tears. im a lesbian and having that kind of representation as a suprise and not beimg the entire plot was so unreal. its the first time ive ever seen lgbt rep where i didnt actively seek it out myself. i also cried when i realised my character was sick and when i relaised they had baby. this game will forever hold a special place in my heart.
Same, I was so happy when I realised that the character was Bi and ends up with a woman it is so rare to see a female Bi character characterised as ending up in a relationship with another woman and even rarer to see them also presented as a parent.
A game I definitely recommend that also has casual lesbian representation is called spiritfarer. It’s a beautiful game about loss and helping spirits move on from things that happened while they were alive, and is not only my favorite game but made me bawl my eyes out on several occasions.
Seeing her thrive as her true, creative self with her partner and starting a family in their own home was such a beautiful surprise. I never thought until you said it that this is one of the first times I've experienced this without having to find it myself, and now I'm crying lmao
I also love how many creators I've watched playing this game have jokingly pointed out the flannel and docs as lgbtq stereotypes in the university stage, which was a funny scene later when it turned out to be true !!
Speaking as someone who has ms, I feel like that might be the illness the character develops in the game. She's the right age and I have to use an arm brace on bad days and eventually will need a cane in the next few years, it would also account for the yoga and lack of mobility from someone who was otherwise a very active person before..not sure but would definitely be interesting and nice to see some representation :)
I love the fact that you can see the main character's disability develop, I also feel like it can be interpreted it as her managing it better as she realizes she's disabled and needs to do things differently then she was to be in less pain. Either way as a disabled person with chronic pain I love that her disability is shown to affect her in a detailed way that I don't normally see unless the character's whole thing is that they're disabled
I can definitely see that, the MC trying to manage her pain with tiger balm, heating pads and pain meds while putting off using/being in denial about needing a cane.
@@EvenBadWolvesGaming yesss! I'm currently putting off using a cane/mobility aid when i urgently need one, so this game hit hard. Seeing a young disabled character represented like this means so much to me 🥺🥺
@@EvenBadWolvesGaming this game actually introduced me to the pain/heating pads things, I didn't know they existed! So excited to try them for my chronic pain
I think she picked up the uke when she was with the ex boyfriend, because she had it there and he seemed very into music. I like how even if the relationship didn't work out, she still learned stuff from him, like his taste for coffee and music.
this game is like a happy sad, its so amazing seeing how people change and yet stay the same throughout the years and how we get to see the main character grow and all these people come and leave her life. the more you move into the story its like you become apart of her life more and more so when the game comes to an end you cant help but want more, to see how her relationship might grow more, her career expanding futher and possibly even her kid growing up as the couple get older together.
I personally believe the MC not just visited the UK but actually lives there. You can pick it up throughout the story with smaller hints, the London Bus could be a souvenir from a trip to the capital. The fact the other mementos are European seem to indicate that she at least lives in the continent, unless she’s taking expensive global trips. The use of ‘Uni’ for the student accommodation instead of the more American ‘College’ is also a subtle hint. Plus, the prominence of not only a kettle but an electric one being used shows that she is most likely from the UK, as Americans tend to (shudder) heat water up in a microwave or use a stove kettle as their power supply is weaker and so electric kettles are less effective at heating up water. Obviously this could also suggest she lives in a European country instead, but i’m not as familiar with them so can only see the hints towards a British MC
We say Uni in Australia as well and we have electric kettles. The power point in the student dorm room is also the same as Australia. Europe is a pretty popular travel destination for us, particularly London. Plus the game was produced in conjunction with the Queensland Government and the creative lead has said it was all based in Brisbane.
tbh as an American, electric kettles are not as *un*common as some in the UK might believe, especially among younger folks. The discrepancy mostly has to do with the fact that we drink far less tea (excluding myself here; I'm East Asian and have a water boiler with 24/7 hot water✌️). Regardless of geography, I can't imagine a character with non-electric coffee gadgets like a French press resorting to the barbarism of a microwave, so a kettle makes sense.
its true and i just realized she was in school for 3 years (UK) and not 4 years like American (maybe other countries???) schools- I'm literally an American college student and I just noticed that
The windows show iconic landscape and structures of where it is set. There's an indication of where mc is from/lives based on certain items, and there are bird calls in certain levels that hint to the location. An undergrad degree is also 3 years in Australia and we tend to be coffee snobs.
This is my first time seeing this game; When I heard the character is young, disabled, and uses a cane like me I started to cry. Representation like this is so important
In my first playthrough I totally missed the health issue. I thought medecines was another periodic package. I also didn't understand the roomate appartment. I didn't really knew what it was. I was just putting stuff nice and clean x). But I did understood that her boyfriend was toxic and that she had a girlfriend after. I only understood things better in my second playthrough. Like which kind of books she had between art, typo, music, TTRPG. So I made a better playthrough. I also thought she had painful periods like endometriosis. but I actually think it's back issue.
Ok one thing I noticed is the symbolism of her girlfriend's plush being a tiger. You see in the Chinese Zodiac each zodiac has compatibility with another. Well, those born from the Year of the Pig are highly compatible with people from the Year of the Tiger, so yes they are a perfect match.
like you said, i think the pig reflects the stages of her life. the tear from breaking up with her boyfriend kinda makes me think he was abusive towards her and tore her mental state. the patches reflect her healing, and the yellow bow at the end when she gives it to her unborn child reflects her accepting and moving on (from what i guess)
They should really put multiple other stories in the game, it would be amazing to look into other people's stories, and im sure they will be just as amazing and meaningful as this one!
I was surprised when this video named some of the movies the character owns, because I would never have been able to recognize them from just a few pixels. The sauces, though-I got those all immediately!
Oh man. I didn’t expect to tear up, but something near the end, maybe the spark of happiness or the new home for her piggie, got to me. You explained this story and chose background music that ended up being really moving. I do feel like you said “our character” quite often; “she” would have sufficed and been more personal, I believe, but it’s only a tiny thing I wanted to give feedback on. Great video! I’ve been on the fence about this game for a good while, but I’ll have to throw the devs my money sometime to experience this myself.
This was so beautiful! I always thought those business cards were like a tiny day-to-day calendar thing but the business cards make more sense. I hope they do a sequel but with a whole new character/storyline. It would be so fun!
The first time I played this game, every time I saw the pig plushie I got ''sad'' and happy at the same time, it was a sweet element, especially when they gave it to their child.
this game is so underrated. it has such amazing detail, representation, and story shown in such simple and subtle yet complex ways! absolutely amazing game that helps the player really relate to the main character even though we never see her.
They should let us unpack the kids bedrooms as they grow up, maybe one of the kids dont go to college and the other wins the lottery; SOMETHING. This game is amazing! I loved it. It would be a shame and a loss if they didn't decide to continue the game. It doesn't have to be "Unpacking 2" they could just patch the game, charging $3-10 for content and I'd still buy!!
It's funny how a puzzle game like this made me cry twice. I cried when the girlfriend moved in and then I cried again when I noticed the baby things in the final house. It just made me so happy to see it
The end makes me want to cry when she passes down her stuffed pig. It's such a great game. Maybe they'll make an unpacking 2, following our characters child and their experiences.
I love this game so much and I replay it every now and then. I would love to see more games like this as it really helped with my anxiety. This game also reminds me of old abandoned buildings.. each belonging adds to the story of the woman who lived in the houses, as the story progresses we can see her get older, her life and hobby’s change and even the things she struggles with. Just like with abandoned houses with left over belongings you can imagine who lived there, what they used to do, talked about and enjoyed. This game holds a special place in my heart :)
Ok this made me cry. The boyfriend rooms I said "their going to break up if he won't even move a poster for her diploma" also the giving of the stuffed animals to the baby made cry😅
I wish they made every color book a different story of a different person. Even though I get it for different saves, I think it would've really added even more to this game (which is already awesome within itself)
The signs of chronic pain/disability are interesting. Of course disabilities can remain dormant and appear later in adulthood but as someone who also works in food service I think it’s also possible that it’s an injury from her days as a barista. Standing for long hours (you have to be full time to make any semblance of a living wage plus picking up overtime), lifting heavy boxes incorrectly, not reminding yourself to check your posture, suffering a fall on the job, all of those things can lead to chronic pain even within just a few years.
i know the creators dont plan on adding to the game but i would love to see the stories of the different people in her life or maybe a more sandbox gamemode
A friend of mine started playing this, and said she almost started to feel like she was unpacking my stuff. I played it myself and have to say that yes, this really was werid for me since there are so many parallels.
Playing this game i never paid attention to all this detail. Watching this video made me realise how emotional this game is and it really does feel like you are this character, aging and experiencing life
This is such a beautiful game ❤️. The first time I saw it, I was watching a twitch stream. It was my favorite streamer Niachu, and it was such a fun and chill game to watch. The chat agreed to unanimously name the ex-boyfriend Chad, because that name fits him perfectly. I have played through the game on my own since then and absolutely love it. Thank you for this video, it helped me to understand even more about the people and I absolutely love it.
Considering how the pain medication shows up mainly after she moves back into her parents house, I kind of wonder if that's the reason why they broke up? I mean judging by how she has to hide her degree, and the stark contrast between her weights and his much larger ones, or her small toothbrush vs his big electric one, it's pretty apparent that it's a metaphor for how he most likely made her feel small. So all things considered, it seems in character for him to dump her after she presumably suffered a rock climbing injury that left her disabled. I imagine that her suffering the injury meant that she needed more support to cope with her condition, and he probably viewed her as too "high maintenance" because of it, and kicked her out. Alternatively, and this one is more of a stretch. Maybe instead of dumping her for it, he ended up cheating on her once she got the injury, because in her mind she was less attractive or something because of it. And then when she found out, he threw her out the house. My only evidence for that one being the fact that the pin goes directly through his face if you try to hang the picture of her and her ex up on the corkboard, suggesting it was a bad breakup.
I really love how much representation is in this game, as well as how silent the story is. I’m still really young, so I didn’t understand most of the story, but I love how silent and not in your face it is, for those who don’t like stories or don’t understand it, and it’s still silently there for those who do understand it. My first time playing I didn’t even know there was a story, so when I learnt there was one, I immediately felt so happy. This game is so therapeutic, I recommend the game for anyone who hasn’t tried it. The representation is so silent (at least it was for me), yet amazing. The story is amazing and probably relatable for many
When I first played and she got back to her old room I was so confused when the photo of her boyfriend and her were marked in the wrong place as I had it up on the bulletin board until I hid it and at that moment it hit me so hard to realized what it meant. And a happy note every time the old cup was brought out I was so happy.
I love that the pig loses its ribbon after the first move in and gets another one in the last. And that there’s always one more baby chicken for every year.
I loved all the details we got from seeing the female partner's things. I was so happy when she moved in! All their stuff fit so cute! But yeah it was nice she started celebrating her Jewish side again. But it's important to realize her partner was an Asian woman with her cooking supplies and decorations and dragon statue. Also her love for plants really brighten up the MC's life plants go from like non existent to in every single room. I hope the add more chapters one day maybe of them decorating their son/daughter's room or getting a family pet and having to put that stuff somewhere or getting a slightly bigger house with four bedrooms and seeing them retire together to a nice cottage that would be really cute. I loved the MCs career developing over the course of the story. I knew she liked drawing and I thought she had her degree in graphic design but becoming a children's book author was an adorable turn I didn't see coming. Crazy how such a simple game can make everyone so emotional with its background story. 😊🥲
I downloaded this to play while I recovered from shoulder surgery not knowing how much I would resonate with the character. For one, the life stages are so relatable and the items are familiar and nostalgic. Then the pain medications came out. The references to chronic pain resonated with me so deeply. I have hEDS and live with chronic joint pain. Seeing a character with similar problems was so comforting especially while I was in bed recovering. For such a little game there is a lot of representation. And all the items are just precious ❤️
This game is the only game so far to make me cry, the good times, the bad times, the Greatest times, Unpacking is the only game I’ve ever played to make me cry. The way the pig plushie comes full circle, from the MC as a child to the MC, and her Parter’s child. The way it shows how time flies and not to take it for granted, to the underlying messages of declining health and abusive relationship (with the MC’s ex boyfriend) and possible resentment towards her family for not accepting her for who she is as there’s no new family photos after the MC starts dating someone of the same gender. The way she still kept the dog poster hidden as if she thought it childish and would be embarrassed if her friends saw it (that’s my theory for why it’s in a cupboard at least). The way our most cherished belongings can be seen as childish, stupid or humiliating as kids, when “friends” see them. I know I may be reading way too much into this but no matter what this game is one of my undisputed favorite pieces of art ever curated.
When the main character moves into their first partners house, there is alternative dialogue when you finish unpacking. “Feels so serious moving into his place!”
I’ve been watching gameplay of this game for a while now, but only played it myself for the first time about a week ago. I’m a disabled, jewish, female, lesbian, artist, with two parents and a sister, with an a sentimental side for my belongings, who loves to travel. This was the most representation of myself I’ve ever seen in a video hame, and we don’t even see the protag except in a still image of her back in the end.
The first time i played this, i had managed to miss the dreidel the first few times we see it (when i first started playing it, i wasnt paying much attention to the items) and then when she moves into her own place and i pulled out a menorah, i was So Surprised. Its so rare to see positive Jewish rep in games and it made me so happy to see. (I think i texted all my friends about it lol). I’ve played through it twice more since and gotten 100% on the achievements. I love how chill this game is. Its very relaxing and i like to play it sometimes to unwind.
I'm only discovering this video now, but I loved how the family of duck toys slowly grows throughout the game. If I recall, you start with one or two, until it becomes a whole family of them.
You forgot to mention our character's pet beetle. We first see it when they live with their roommates and take it along to their boyfriend's apartment and then back home. When they move into their new apartment we unpack a picture of a beetle with a little halo and not our actual beetle showing us that they died. Ngl that moment made me legit sad 😭
I love finding all the tiny details in this game - from the stitched-up pig to the dish towel stolen from the ex boyfriend to the mixed box companies (from past moves of the main character and her partner) for the final move to the new house. so much effort was put into maintaining these storylines!
You missed one I thought was particularly precious. Starting at the boyfriend's house, the character has a pet beetle that she ends up taking home. He doesn't follow her to her apartment, but she does have something: a framed picture of the little guy smiling with a halo over his head.
When I first played the level where you unpack in the bfs apartment I was like giiiiirl this man is rude he doesn’t make space for you and the only real wall space for the degree IS IN THE FUCKING BATHROOM. Like it felt like deep down he didn’t want her there. Or it was a way of controlling her life in a small way, idk if that’s a bit much but dude. Her friends made her feel welcomed even tho the place was crowded it wasn’t impossible to find space and it felt like a home. The fancy apartment feels like styles are clashing, nothing matches, and they don’t have much in common. Then the next level where you move back home i burst into tears, bc even tho I was upset and I kinda knew their relationship wouldn’t last it still hurt. Bc I still had hope that somehow it could work, I didn’t want her heart to be broken. I had the photos all hung on the cork board but the one with her bf was red. When I hid it away in the dresser I got jumpscared by the completion sound.
an artist, D&D, childhood stuffed animals, that sounds like a game I feel seen in! I'm an artist, I like D&D and, to this day, I still sleep with an old doll of mine. Seeing this game demonstrate things that I can relate to gives me an air of nostalgia, even though I was born in the 2000s.
wow so cute! I wish it could have gone into her elderly years. Like once her kid moves out and starts a life all her or his own they downsize to a Tiny home. Just cozy for them and have pics of their child and grand babies.
Honestly, the moment I found out she was bi I shouted "heck yeah!" It felt so nice to be included in media presentation, and as an bi Asian myself I really loved seeing girls from different cultures falling in love and staying together
Also the moment I saw there were ZERO condiments, only coffee and protein powder in her ex's place, I knew they weren't gonna last. Dating someone pretentious who doesn't cook and doesn't know how to take care of their partner is never a good decision
@@bashtar I just knew from how crammed and alienating the apartment was that they wouldn't be happy together. It's amazing how such subtle queues generated an idea in my mind. Isn't art just neat?
@@signodeinterrogacion8361 I know exactly what you mean my friend. Details do tell a lot about someone, and this game shows this fact in such an aesthetic way.
this game is not in my wheelhouse at all but it was surprisingly therapeutic and really satisfying to meticulously organize every detail and watch a replay at the end. i wasn't quite understanding the story but this video sums it up great. i like how much of a story this game tells with hardly any words.
I love this game. I totally relate to the character, being lgbt, into art, being nerdy and also struggling with chronic illness. It’s so clever how they managed to fit in so much information with unpacking :)
I didn’t even notice the mc’s disability until now! Now that it had been explained it makes so much sense as I was confused what some of the things were
I am pretty sure that the Walkie talkies that appeared when the main character’s gf moved in was supposed to be a cute couples thing so they can message each over it at any time. Also I think the gf’s career is writing as they most likely made the book together. I might be wrong but this is just how I saw it as.
I like the theory that they wrote the book together but if this was the case I would have liked there to be more signs of this - the poster for the book only has the main character on it and the office only has one the one desk and chair.
If you are looking for a new cosy game with a similar feel (though minus an underlying story) check out my video for new game, Garden In! th-cam.com/video/3b-3Iv8dDJA/w-d-xo.html
I also think that her back issues could've been because of a rock climbing incident, because you stop unpacking her rock climbing shoes and chalk.
It could be, I love how it is all up to interpretation 😊
That would make alot of sense!
I read rock climbing as rice cooker please help me
My theory is that her ex boyfriend abused her or hurt her

One little detail that I loved about the game is that our character starts out packing really haphazardly. Some things needing to be brought into another room after being unpacked. But the way her girlfriend packs is neat and efficient. When they move in together in the new house, our character's boxes are a lot less chaotic, probably due to her girlfriend's either influence, or supervision lmao

I honestly think that the reason why there were no recent family picture was because MC's parents are against their current relationship, and MC kept the picture in hopes that they will be accepted by the family someday.
Could be, it's sad that there is the photo of the roommates with MC's family but none of MC's family. I wondered it something happened to her parents because MC seems to have her mum's sewing kit in the final house.
idk, perhaps they passed away?
Or maybe MC moved to a place far away? Maybe even a different country.. I mean she does travel a lot
She also left the Jewish things behind
@@nohrjinn Doesn't she still have the menorah in the final house?
I totally missed that the main character was sick/disabled. I thought the heating pad was for periods and the pills were birth control/allergy meds. The cane...don't ask how that one went over my head lol.
same lol
same i thought the pills were just tylenol
The first time I unpacked the cane I thought a parent or guardian died and it was theirs
Maybe you thought it was like her parent’s old one or smth
It seems weird, but the mc is really sentimental and seemingly has nothing else to remember them by, even if she was still in contact
same
The baby hasn't been born yet as of the unpacking of the final house -- if you finish the unpacking in the nursery, the caption will indicate that she and her partner are 'looking forward to meeting' the baby.
She also has an award of some sort of her own, so she's accomplished in her own right.
this literally sounds like an english assignment analysis omfg, i love your insight 10/10
I still dont get what the monster head bust was. It arrived along with her girlfriend. Really confused me. Im not sure whether she or her girlfriend brought it. Although you can put the black baseball cap on it to get a sticker.
@@KikomochiMendoza It was speculated in the video that the partner was in show business so maybe the bust was from a show she was working on.
I also picked up on the pregnancy book, which really opens up possibilities for more representation. Sperm donor? Girlfriend is a trans woman? Polyamory? Really love all those little hidden things.
if the baby isn't born yet then why do they have a baby in the final cutscene??
I noticed that everytime the main character moved, the number of chick plushies increased and at the end they were 10 or something. super adorable
I put each of the little chicks in a different room in the final house, as a little secret !! :D
Same, I noticed she kept collecting the chicks and it was so cute
I keep them all in the bedroom so their safe

every time I play, I would put the chicks on the windowsill of our bedroom to stare at out the window-
Seeing the comments about the girlfriend, i actually think she's Thai. There're Thailand temple, elephant souvenirs, the tiger toy, her collection of spices (with fish sauce), the snake statue and some incense sticks.
funnily enough, i felt like the most telling was the fish shaped tray that thais always use for lime steam fish 😆😆
I THOUGHT THOSE WERE CHOPSTICKS. 😔

I still feel livid every time I remember this. I knew this guy wasn’t right for her.
i find it such an amazing detail how when the mc moved in with her boyfriend, she was sticking out like a sore thumb and didn't have her own space, but when her girlfriend moved in, it was like they understood each other on a deeper level, and both of them had the space they needed. i just thought it was a nice indication of the signs of a forever partner
Yeah! You couldn’t even hang her diploma at the bfs house 😢. But when the gf moved in, it felt different,It was so cute seeing both of their clothing styles live in the same closet ☺️

another detail i really liked is the fact that the pig stuffed animal gets a tear in it as soon as the main character gets with her boyfriend. she's not happy with him and it's a sign she's not. she moves back to her parents house, now heartbroken and even the caption "this room used to seem bigger" tells us she was unhappy. the pig still has a tear. when she moves to her own place, she meets the girlfriend and the big is now stiched up. i thought that was a super sweet detail!
all i could think while playing is "wow she really put a kitchen knife, two bras, a potted plant with soil, and a poster in the same box?!?!" like she does not know how to pack at all. there should be a sequel called packing where we teach her how to do that lol
this is so true. in the the second place her boots are in separate boxes in different rooms😭
I personally can't pack by myself. If I was moving this is what would be inside one of the boxes:
One shoe
An Xbox
A lamp
A book
And a mug.
nah bc she literally put the red boots in 2 seperate boxes
Seeing that her stuff is packed a lot more sensibly in the last level, seems like her partner is doing that already.
This comment is so funny lmfao
With the medication and walking stick suddenly I honestly thought the route the game was gonna take was to unpack for the last time in a hospital room or something
It would have been really sad if they did that but in a way it would have been interesting to go through her whole life.
Ooo thats actully rlly smart if u ever get in tpuch with the creator u shpuld def say that
but it would be rlly sad
I was fully expecting a level where the partner's things slowly disappeared! Very glad it didn't go that way though, I became bizarrely attached to them
Oooh nooo
I also kinda thought she would end up in one for like a surgery or smt
It hits so many points so well and in such a gorgeous and simple manner, genuinely one of my favorite games to date.
you can also put the diploma above the toilet in the bathroom. either way, its sad :'(
I love this game - I can relate to it so much.
Holy shit, you are actually the perfect person to play this game wth

I didn’t notice that, very cool.
The game makes it pretty clear that when she finds a hobby, she takes it with both hands and holds onto it, so for her to have what seems to be a back injury and for rock climbing to be the only hobby to conspicuously disappear seems like too big of a coincidence.
you can actually hang up the diploma
above the toilet
@@raul-aurelianserban8295 I still find that extremely upsetting. Why would you hang your proudest achievement in the BATHROOM of all places... ;-;
@@crystalwang1532 I mean, there's also the theory that the ex boyfriend had something to do with it
You can also see the story progress by looking at the clothes hangers. And by the end they’ve gotten rid of all the plastic ones and invested in wooden ones of their own :)
Edit: Upon further inspection she also took one of his kitchen towels and the little metal trinket he had on his nightstand
I actually didn’t notice she took his hangers though I do love that she did get something useful out of that relationship.
The theory my brother and I had was very off the mark and likely wrong, but it was still a special experience to come to that point together as we played.
i honestly thought that after she moved out the parents just did some remodeling
she does say "this room used to seem bigger" though which would indicate it's a room she has lived in before
I was thinking in the beginning it was her parents and somewhere between there and that room there was a fall out with her parents for whatever reason and now lives with her grabd parents. Was I right? Probably not but it was fun to think
Its up for interpretation
Same i thought the cane was either for her grandparents or she was just growing old lmao
I love how you see she keeps her Ex’s stuff
@@xxfaiyaaI assumed she picked up coffee from her ex. But oh well, if its a good item, no reason to ditch it right 😆

I can't help but hyper fixate on the fact that the MC is Jewish. A lot of games where a Jew is the MC its a gorey historical game or if there's a Jewish character they die. So to see one in such a. Cute idle game?? I'm so happy

same! im jewish and it didnt take until the menorah that shes jewish (I literally didn't notice the drediels) and its REALLY nice seeing jewish centered that doesn't have the holocaust centered around it
The Shivah is an interesting Jewish game, not cute though
i bought this game not knowing what it was and when I pulled out her girlfriends dresses and relaised she was BI i burst in to tears. im a lesbian and having that kind of representation as a suprise and not beimg the entire plot was so unreal. its the first time ive ever seen lgbt rep where i didnt actively seek it out myself. i also cried when i realised my character was sick and when i relaised they had baby. this game will forever hold a special place in my heart.
Same!
Seeing her thrive as her true, creative self with her partner and starting a family in their own home was such a beautiful surprise. I never thought until you said it that this is one of the first times I've experienced this without having to find it myself, and now I'm crying lmao
I also love how many creators I've watched playing this game have jokingly pointed out the flannel and docs as lgbtq stereotypes in the university stage, which was a funny scene later when it turned out to be true !!
by the way, if you end on different rooms, it writes something different down for each of them!!

I know this is an unimportant detail but I loved the progression of the "chicken family" 🤣🥰
An undergrad degree is also 3 years in Australia and we tend to be coffee snobs.
this is such a small detail that it couldve just been an oversight, but the plug sockets are different from the ones we use in england
This is my first time seeing this game; When I heard the character is young, disabled, and uses a cane like me I started to cry. Representation like this is so important
It really is 💕
The growth our girl has, I'm so proud of her. She deserves everything.
Well, those born from the Year of the Pig are highly compatible with people from the Year of the Tiger, so yes they are a perfect match.
like you said, i think the pig reflects the stages of her life. the tear from breaking up with her boyfriend kinda makes me think he was abusive towards her and tore her mental state. the patches reflect her healing, and the yellow bow at the end when she gives it to her unborn child reflects her accepting and moving on (from what i guess)
as a disabled queer woman of a religious minority, this game brings me so much joy and i cried watching a playthrough for the first time.
The character is bi
I cried a million times when i played it but i love how most of the things she had as a child are still there
Same, I have so many of my own childhood possessions and I loved that she kept hers as well.
They should really put multiple other stories in the game, it would be amazing to look into other people's stories, and im sure they will be just as amazing and meaningful as this one!
the girlfriend is asian! i saw the unpacking of the dumpling steamer and all the sauces my mom uses! super subtle but amazing touch
Thanks 😊 it's definitely worth getting, particularly if you have an xbox and can get it on xbox.
Wow, didn’t think such a simple game had so much meaning and story behind it, but I absolutely love it!
I never thought I could feel so proud of a character in a video game, but I was genuinely thrilled for the main character by the end of the game
This is such a heartfelt game
Thanks for breaking this down! I'm surprised there hasn't been any comments yet.
Thank you for watching. And for commenting 😊
“All hail the g l o w c l o u d .”
That got me laughing-
I wish they made every color book a different story of a different person.
I love this game so much, way more than I thought I would. unpacking the character's life and seeing all the changes just did something to my heart
I got the game and it’s really fun! It’s great to see the character progress through her life!
I'm glad you like it, it is such a great game.
I have played this game multiple times and desperately need a part two
Considering how the pain medication shows up mainly after she moves back into her parents house, I kind of wonder if that's the reason why they broke up?
The story is amazing and probably relatable for many
such a wholesome game. made me tear up
Thank you for this video. I realize that I had missed the entire moving and beautiful story because I was not paying attention to important details!
the pig being given to the baby made me tear up, that's so sweet :')
love how they have representation and still add more to the charecter instead of making one thing their whole personality.
Now that I look more into the story I realise now how beautiful and emotional it really is.
The more I play this game, the more details and story reveal themselves. It's such a comfort game to me.
Seeing the pig with a ribbon around its neck at the end genuinely brought me to tears, oh man…
Same, it's definitely the sweetest bit of the game.
One of my favourite things about this game was how it really made you think!
i wish they make more to this i played it like 4 times and finished til the end love it
this is such a wholesome game and you explain it so well
Aww thank you 😊
every time I play that game I find new details to the story and I think that's the most beautiful part of it
Honestly, the moment I found out she was bi I shouted "heck yeah!" It felt so nice to be included in media presentation, and as an bi Asian myself I really loved seeing girls from different cultures falling in love and staying together
