  • Taking good notes while you study the Bible can be challenging, but even more challenging than that is keeping these notes organized. Join me in this video as we talk about a way to study the Bible, take good notes and how you can organize those notes.
    This isn't a new system, or one that I developed, instead leaning in the shoulders of Jonathan Edwards. He developed a genius way to record and keep notes organized.

    One correction - JE did not put his miscellanies in his Blank Bible, but did cross reference them there. His blank Bible was its own set of comments and the miscellanies were separate notebooks.

    Love it!! I Thank you! for this. Knowing me I think I’ll end up filling a few notebooks so I think I’ll number the books too. Making the cross reference entries as “B1N13” which stands for “Book 1 Note 13”

    I did my first journel entry today. It was on faith. I read 5 or 6 verses, and wrote my thoughts on them. Then I wrote what my overall oberservations were on what I read. I plan on writing something everyday, when I read the Bible every morning. I also plan on studying different subjects, on top of my daily reading, and putting them in my journal. If you have any tips for me, that could help me improve what, and how I write, it would be greatly appreciated.

      Wow, that's great, keep going.
      I would encourage you to check out this play list that will give you some ideas of how you can organize your thoughts to write down notes.

      Yes I still use it all the time, will do an update video soon, plus a digital way to keep these notes.

    I have been using this system for years and although it works well it is a challenge to later locate written notes by topic or subject. I suppose a digital system is appropriate as well. What are your thoughts?

    • @PastorJeremyCollins
      @PastorJeremyCollins  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly I have not gone back enough to look at notes.
      I will think what a digital system could look like, now you got me thinking haha.

    • @bradenhogan2

      A digital system would obviously be more flexible. It would also be printable and shareable. You could give it to your grandchildren and if they someday take one of your notes to heart, they can always find the scripture it corresponds to in their own Bible and note it there. Or you could even go the extra mile and give them a Bible you’ve hand-marked to match yours. So, for increasing the scope of the possibilities, digital is clearly better.
      One suggestion I would make to modify the system in order to make it easier to find different “types” of notes (although it will only further complicate the system) is to add another character.
      For example:
      Instead of “001, 002, 003…”
      One could write “001 α, 002 β 003 δ…”
      What good would this do?
      Well, you provide a key in your notes to say what each Greek character represents.
      Ex:
      α = apostolic quotes of the OT
      δ = doctrinal notes
      λ = life application
      … and so on
      This way your table of contents is still in numerical order, you still add a new title to the table of contents to correspond to your most recent note, and they will consequently still be ordered by date added oldest-newest, but now you have a roundabout way of finding specific topics
      Another change one might make is to have an English letter in front of the number if you were going to have more than one notebook… so the notebooks could be A, B, C, etc.
      So, in this case, the format would be “A 001 δ, A 002 δ, A 003 θ…”
      That would be most useful if you wanted to have different “types” of notebooks because you can always just start a new notebook at the number you left your last one off at if your only problem is not enough sheets
      All of this is maybe unnecessary for digital because on digital you can reorder things easier, or simply type CTRL+F to find whatever topic on the page you want to see

    Is there a follow- up to this video? Was the system sustainable? Any lessons learner? Modifications?

      I am currently working on a digital system to use that would allow for that.
