  • The 28th "shootout". And it was grand. Great weather all week. But a kinda weird week when the weather was no longer a factor.
The track owners try to save the contract by shoving pavement into the Emergency Vehicle station at Eight, and making folks drive through it.
Boris Said, Randy Pobst, and Micheal Galati before they got their pro rides. And I thought I saw Beaux Barfield driving a spec car!
As far as that kind of stuff goes, as an SCCA member, I'm also stoked about Tim Reichenbach. IIRC, he was an engineer at Ford at the time, even though he raced a Fiat. You gotta have a pretty good 'day job" if you're gonna make this sport your hobby. It's not like you can practice for free with your dad in your own back yard.
He went on to work for the Benetton and Stewart F1 teams. I seem to recall an interview with him in Sportscar magazine (SCCA's club publication) in the early '00s, he talked about interviewing for the Ford GT street car project. He was asked if he realized that the street car he'd be working on would be capable of almost 200mph.
He replied that if such a thing was true, it would be the slowest car he'd worked on in quite some time.
Apologies to my SCCA buddies for not talking about how much other Runoffs Porn exists in this vid..watch it, see the names, and realize I could write a "description" this long for every single race of the weekend.
EDIT: Folks asked for a breakdown, I'll give it a try:

I'm so glad to have found this! I've told my husband about my dad winning GT4 for over 20 years and he finally got to see it! Thank you!

@Dustin Kenneth Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site through google and I'm trying it out atm.
Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.

I hope they put the triumph TR six in a tougher class I mean the car was clearly not in the proper class it was clearly faster than all the other cars it’s too bad I feel really bad for Jerry Hinkle and Bob KIRBY

These tiny cars (Mini, Datsun, MG) looks much more faster and spectacular than these heavy weight V8 cars.

All those Gt1 Oldsmobile Cutlass racers....those were the days!

Tiptoetherat, Olds' ad campaign back then was, "This is not your father's Oldsmobile." You should have heard the jokes when Scott Sharp started driving one (yeah, he was driving for Bob..).

oldSCCAguy yah DAMN! I never thought about that one. I DID hear someone say that line to Bobby Sak on the grid at Road America one day though.

Tiptoetherat Oh, yeah!! Scott showed up at the Runoffs one year in one. Wasn't even disguised, I think it might have been one of the T/A cars in full Newman-Sharp livery! By the end of the week, he was just saying, "Yeah, I know...". And I had forgotten about Sak until you wrote his name. Cool stuff.

oldSCCAguy yah I'm an OLD...Oldsmobile fan, a rainbow flag waiver, and I love a good underdog sooooooo I was a Don Sak fan back in the day. ;-)

Tiptoetherat, I think the first Olds I ever remember being competitive was actually Irv Hoerr. Man, it's always tough for an independent. Even worse when the parent company of your marque is spending all their money on the other brands. I liked Hoerr..he could drive! (not that Sharp or the Saks couldn't..)

Wonder of racing like this is still popular.. there's no coverage of racing except Lemons and Grid Life.. that's what I've seen.

Interest has waned for various reasons. There is a shortage of SCCA workers and the fields are smaller. Some races are still posted on TH-cam. The year end "nats" tend to be.
