- Raw footage from original master tape. Give Mike & David a break, looking at the thing again, it seems like they thought the editors wouldn't ever show more than simple highlights from the race.
Jerry Hansen always had the best equipment, but he was also one of the best American drivers of his time. He won most of his amateur races, but also did very well anytime he raced against the pro's. I recall Jerry as a co-driver with Mark Donohue on several occasions, which means Roger Penske knew what Jerry was capable of in a race car.
40 years later and I still didn't win ! One of the best drives of my career in my home built car.

I think the guys were hilarious! I loved this. Saw Jerry Hanson win several times while supporting my cousin, Steve Ice.

I love the Runoffs. The 1980 raw stuff are my favorites. I was just going to use YT as a 'file host' to share them on a Facebook group. IIRC, Jalopnik found the FF race, Grassroots Motorsports magazine found SSA, and then people started subscribing!! It's been weird, but it's been fun. Thanks for watching!

Allen overtaxed his tires by trying to run away in the beginning. Hanson drove a controlled race enjoying the better grip in the last half of the race. Great coverage of old school side-by-side...
I busted out laughing when he called the race boring!
I actually thought the race wasn't that bad.
The announcers comments are what make this a great video. Very funny.
Check out the Showroom Stock C race from the same year. David Hobbs does a Jackie Stewart imitation. Can't recall the timestamp, but it's closer to the end than it is to the beginning.

If someone called a race incredibly boring like Mike did they would be fired no doubt. but agreed on the amazing vids!
Oh man..I work in TV. I've seen a lot of "raw footage" (the stuff that gets recorded before it's edited into a shorter part of a program), but almost everybody does it. What Mike said isn't half as bad as some of the stuff I've heard. :)

Some friends and I may or may not have mooned Jerry on the victory lap after this "race".
Jerry Hansen has mentioned in interviews that he was very hurt by the brief fad of mooning him after races. Jerry was a big supporter of other racers behind the scenes and was always supported SCCA racing, he did not understand why people would do that to him. There should be a book about Jerry and all of the fantastic race cars he owned.
