+sportscarsmovies , glad you enjoyed it. I love The Runoffs. Imagine a family reunion at the NBA finals, except they play basketball for 8hrs. And then afterwards hand out free beer and let you sleep it off in the arena. That's what a Runoffs race day is like for participants. Home movie of a worker campsite, 1993: th-cam.com/video/6Gt4RMiKXAM/w-d-xo.html
My brain still hasn't stopped processing the 1990s as being relatively contemporary so when they say that one of the podium finishers in Formula Atlantic is 71 and I realise that'd mean they'd be 100 this year it's kinda jarring
warren pyontek, oh yeah, man! The '80s and '90s were crazy days in SCCA for those of us who loved small displacement sedans. During the '60s and '70s, the "Sedan Class" required folks to still use the production "tub". But after Trans-Am went to tube cars, the rules were re-written to let smaller displacement cars do the same thing in amateur racing!! Crazy expensive, but there were people that 'went there'. If an automaker made a great engine, you just built the thing to max out the rules, and put a tube frame & custom suspension under it. And then fiberglass over it. It was like NASCAR or Trans Am for those of us who like a motor with less than 5ltr displacement.
.Been to Road Atlanta for many many years for the runoffs... racing and comorrade like nowhere else. Our South Louisiana gumbo always. gathered a crowd. Yeeehaaaw !!!!!
Excellent! Thanks for sharing. I was there that year as well as 87.
We spent a nice evening watching this video . It's real racing !!!
