Long-time member of the Sports Car Club of America in the US. My club started the original "Import Car Scene"..in 1944. We also started this whole thing with Muscle Cars taking the twisties, instead of a simple straight line. I've flagged, I've raced, I've autocrossed. Here is some of the stuff I've managed to collect over the years.
Apology to the subscribers again. "File Host" time.
Yeah, talking about Shelby Can-Am on one of my FB groups. Realized I had some footage on one of my old movies. They were supposed to be where you moved up after competing in Spec Racer Ford (originally Renault). But at $25K back then, hardly anyone bought one. Wiki's close enough for the history..en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shelby_Can-Am

Episode of Barry Mequire's "Car Crazy", 2003
มุมมอง 1.3K8 ปีที่แล้ว
Yeah, I still think Barry was 'crazy' about more than cars at the time..but damn. Interviews with Shelby, P.J., Bondurant, and Gurney? Worth it. Ol' Shel is right about how drivers' licenses were handed out in the Southern US. I got mine in North Carolina at 15yrs old..and that was in 1977! At least I had to take a road test. My mom says that she was handed her first one (Louisiana, mid 1950s) ...

Sorry about some of the quality problems, it's a VHS with creases & stuff. Nobody mentions that Jaki is Jody's nephew until about 18 minutes in (thanks, Jan!) Minor league drivers do minor league stuff! No green for the start, since folks back in the pack get pretty aggressive. Brazilian kids with open-wheeled cars..you know the drill. IIRC, Geoff Boss made it to "The Show", but it didn't reall...

Paul, saying "..replaces Scott Pruett at the wheel.." when Scott is sitting beside you is pretty rude, bro. Alfa *and* Porsche in Indycar? Glad they made the attempt, but don't really know what it was for. Arie in the wall early on. Shierson doesn't look too angry, I guess an Indy win in the same year will do that for ya. Michael and Al Jr. in another battle before Mike blows up. Great 'natural...

Oh, so many drivers' names that it would take me a week to research them all. Just go Google the results (or watch this vid) and pick your favorite. Mine's actually McNish. Note to non-racers: Regardless of what the broadcast team here says, taking your hands off the wheel when you know the car's headed off isn't some sort of social statement. It's to keep from breaking your thumbs or wrists wh...
1986 IMSA GTP at Charlotte (partial)
มุมมอง 4.6K8 ปีที่แล้ว
Never had that fake chicane on the back straight when I raced there, but I never raced in anything even half as fast as a GTP car. OTOH..the heat is real. In SCCA, we used to call our summer points race there the "July Fry". Southern heat combined with the radiation from that concrete bowl was brutal. Anyhow, GTP went there. Klaus Ludwig 'blows up real good' in the Probe, not long after Ken Squ...

Remember when 'The Dakar' was actually *in* Africa? I do. Historical footage of the French military running 'round the desert in Citroen half-tracks in the 1920s. I think this is '86. Jacky Icxx participates in the Porsche 959 effort. Good footage of the bikes & trucks as well..including 'faceplants' for bikes and a truck. I see & hear a wonderful old Audi 5-cyl, but they didn't win this one! N...

Dawn of "The Earl"? Narrated by Bob Jenkins: Highlights of the '91 race...but rebroadcast in '95 with a commercial to buy tickets for the '96 race at Disney.. (1:28). IIRC, Disney Co. already owned ABC/ESPN back then. I'm not usually one of those 'conspiracy theory' folks..but in this case? Maybe so. OTOH, the ad for the Disney 200 only appears once in this. Seems like a real Corporate Overlord...
1995 IMSA WSC at Road Atlanta
มุมมอง 26K8 ปีที่แล้ว
Yeah, only footage I could find elsewhere is of the damn crash. From the collection of some old friends of mine, here's the full race. The wreck was actually pretty early on in the event. Ferrari vs. Olds? Not so much. The spring race at Road Atlanta was a sprint. Team Dyson has Ford power in their R&S chassis, and uses it. I see Olds working it in GTS-1 (the class formerly known as GTO), thoug...
1997 SCCA Maine Winter Forest Rally
มุมมอง 3.8K8 ปีที่แล้ว
One for my fellow club members. Once upon a time, we used to sanction stage rally. Hyundai thought it was important enough to buy time on ESPN2 for a bit. Didn't care that it was a commercial then, even less so now. I still marvel that any of it was ever on TV. So here we go! John F'ing Buffum on the announce team. Paul Choiniere leads the Hyundai effort. Wasn't he VSC's (Buffum's shop) chosen ...
1995 Pro Formula Atlantic at Milwaukee
มุมมอง 3K8 ปีที่แล้ว
Flat-track it on four wheels! Finally found *something* in my pile from the Milwaukee Mile. Traditionally, the race was the week after Indianapolis for the big cars. That tradition lasted into the CART era, and if memory serves, even a couple of years after the Indycars were kicked out of Indianapolis. FA was probably on the undercard for CART on this particular weekend. FA might be Toyotas ins...

Paul Page 'splains that the Indycars actually run all year, and have a season-long points championship. The "Nations Cup" is still around for folks who hated to see Indycars race on road and street courses. Personally, I never cared what country a driver was from. It's not like winning an Indycar race meant the country of their birth was going to be brave enough to launch nukes the next day, ri...

Found this while going through my old friends' video stash again. I know exactly where I comes from, and it cost them $19.95 at the time. It even has the "pledge drive time" little cardboard case on it. OTOH, I'm pretty stoked that they were just as curious about how MSM witnessed our sport as I often was. And honestly, this one's not so bad. It kind of follows Rahal & Hogan through their "I ne...

Fun to find this. I was there.
The gearing sounds kinda off on this particular car, like it's always in a way too tall range, doesn't sound like the motor is running around peak RPM range. I'm not sure what kind of car this is, it sounds like a 6 cylinder engine. Fun race, the recent disaster and devastation from Helene made me wonder what kind of shape and condition these roads and trails are now.
Much Tks for posting Takes me back in the glory days I'm 82 yrs old. 👍

Bill Auberlin has been racing since dinosaurs were still around. lol
Peter greggshot himself because his wife was a c***
Those cars were total junk, its a wonder anybody survived that year?

Britt Ponder .. knew him well :)
I miss David Hobbs. A great personality

I was fortunate to have run an enduro kart at Stardust a week after that CanAm and it rained the entire weekend. Still happy to have been around for several CanAm races at RIR, and Laguna Seca.

Hey oldSCCAguy, I noticed u haven't posted anything in awhile. Are you doing ok? I hope you know you've got a LOT of fans out here that LOVE your channel & hope you are well! Thanks for all you've shared with us. Would I see you at any of the vintage events at RA?

anyone care to see Jack Lawrence's Street Sonnet on youtube? This was taken after the estate auction at his residence after his passing 3 years ago. You'll never guess what color it is. th-cam.com/video/yKgvGOybEPQ/w-d-xo.html
When the Can Am was a joke
I was at this race. In 83 too. This was cheap amazing racing to attend. We would go to the Detroit GP and the Can-Am every year.
do you have footage for AMP?
Chris Econamaki, met him at Petit Le Mans back around 2007?. Nice guy, but he was disoriented, elderly. Helped him find his friends. Watched him as a kid in the 60s.
Strange how Phil Hill sounds like Dorsey Schroeder, must be my speaker.
Thanks for uploading
The joke series f5000 with full bodies
This is one of those videos that when it comes to the end you are sad and you just want the story to keep on going!
Woohoo I had a 924. I really like the Datsun Z though and they are way more coveted now.
Can Am was the best racing there was. Innovation is an understatement for Jim hall. But, all the chassis and engine combos was just awsome. Big injected v8's.
That Chaparral's wing flapping around is killing me! Great video!
It's not "flapping around" it's active aero. Under breaking it pitches up, under acceleration it pitches down.
Really cool , really cool, really cool , really cool , really cool , really cool , really cool , really cool!!
I have the poster signed by Paul Spruell from this race.
I know this is a long shot, but do you happen to have any media from the IMSA races on the same weekend? Either the GT or WSC rounds. I'm particularly fascinated by the GT round as it was a neck-to-neck fight between Panoz and Lotus.
Jerry Hansen just having fun with Bob Allen, letting him lead. My friend John Sorbello in the McRae GM1.
Found this video while trying to find Senna's formula four or ford races. Did not hear or read anywhere what's the track but did race road atlanta in skipbarber on iRacing about 15 years ago and only the second last corner is of what i was racing. Was 3 tents of from world record lap and in a race, my internet connection cut me out while on lead from pole and "never" raced again online.
Al jr eventually got the win back after appeal.
legendary @ 32:20, he obviously stayed in the gas and didnt lift one iota, this is when racing was about still and you didnt need to be rich to win, now its all electronic aids which helps the lesser skilled .. manual is dead in pro racing , what a joke, you now turn into the apex and floor the throttle, electronics take car of the rest .. btw these cars are more difficult do drive than a set up 'race car' . the race car is faster but still easier to drive because they handle near perfect .etc
David Hobbe's impression of Jackie Stewart was fantastic!
wow awesome race thanks
it's impressive that even today a few brave souls bring these priceless machines out for laps at lime rock and the glen among others and in turn make new history. thanks!
Love it, thank you
Yeah I'm not sure that I can take Lyn St. James talking about what it takes to be a good driver and race in CART. She was, and is, a complete joke that took a seat away from a driver that actually deserved it. I'd rather take racing advice from a potato than her.
Tom cruise is driver omg
The Macau Grand Prix is the Monaco, Le Mans or Indianapolis of junior Formula racing. You win there, you are something special.
