- Is Grand Theft Auto IV as good as I remember? The first HD installment in the infamous sandbox series made a huge splash when it launched in 2008. I've always loved it, but in this video, I dive into this classic title and find out why!

Wanted to have this out for GTA 4's 15th anniversary but it took me way longer than I anticipated. Sorry about that! Look forward to the Episodes from Liberty City video later this year.
Also, gotta love how I couldn't use the in-game version of The Soviet Connection for this video because someone reuploaded it and is fraudulently claiming copyright on it 😂
GTA 4 is my favorite GTA game. I lovedthe atmosphere and NYC was alot of fun. I personally enjoy the driving mechanics
One of the best GTA 4 retrospectives I’ve seen. Highly underrated channel.
Brilliant review of the game. Despite its issues, it’s definitely the best game in the series for me due to its more serious and down to Earth narrative/atmosphere. This is definitely one of your best game reviews on the channel. Would love to see you do a review of the Godfather game which I remember playing on the PS2 one day. Till then, all the best and keep doing what you’re doing. You’re my favourite youtuber.
I absolutely loved your video! I just installed GTA 4 again to play through it another time :D
love your videos. you should do a review/retrospective of yooka laylee and the impossible lair
Nice video, I love GTA IV, easily one of my favourite games ever.
I've gotta say I prefer the 'Deal' ending, Roman is in the game from the beginning and you are much more invested in him as a character as well as their relationship. When Roman dies, it feels like it matters, but when Kate dies, you're just sort of like, 'meh'.
At the end, with the helicopter, I think this actually a bug. Certain mechanics in the game only work properly at 30fps, if your FPS is higher (eg if you are playing on a Series S/X), these will be completely broken and make the game un-completable (is that a word?).
Interesting theory for why that helicopter section feels busted, although I played this on an original Xbox 360 so it may not be 100% about the framerate. But the console is old, so who knows?
@@CloudConnection Ah maybe not then!
I love seeing such in-depth reviews! Especially combining the gameplay *and* narrative. Great work!
I need to give this game another shot.
I played it on my PS3 for a few hours years ago and was put off by the driving controls.
I did pick up the steam release after the GTA definitive trilogy debacle in part because I was worried Rockstar/Take Two would make a "Definitive" version and delist the original release. I'll try with that version and see if my experience will be better.
I still remember the first trailer... I'm not sure if I've ever been more hyped for a game.

Story of my life.
Great video, as always! :)
I just replayed it and it remains a masterpiece. And I love the driving in this game. I prefer it to V.
GTA IV is a masterpiece, yep, still. Nice review. Happy 15th!
About Dwayne. I killed him since he was such a chore to deal with, didn't have much left in life so I guessed by killing the man, I was giving him a favor.
Learned the hard way lol
That's certainly understandable. I can see how Dwayne's whole "nothing matters anymore, I'm done" attitude would sway you towards killing him.
I can't say for certain but I think I knew that Dwayne gave you the better rewards for killing Playboy before even getting to that mission. So I may never have had any reason to go after Dwayne. Memory's fuzzy on that, though.
I hate when you kill Dwayne playboy all of the sudden cuts ties with niko like he didn’t want dwayne dead

I actually prefer the driving in GT4 to 5

Really, you liked GTA IV for the story? Don’t get me wrong, I also liked the more serious approach compared to 3, VC and SA, but IV’s was so boring most of the time for me, and I think most of that stems from Niko not being a character I could or wanted to root for. His story was in my opinion not very well-presented, making him feel very one-dimensional to me. And after the hyper-stylised characters from VC and SA he was just very bland I felt.
So true, I think IV’s mission design suffers heavily from the more grounded perspective since every mission feels the exact same
I feel like it's the supporting cast that makes the story.
It was pretty disappointing when it came out
