    I think the 2 biggest challenges for these handhelds are increasing battery life and reducing bezels for bigger screens

    • @Randomness662
      @Randomness662 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      I'm confident that by Ryzen 8000 apus, most triple A titles will be able to run off of 5w tdp at around 720p 40fps. 5wtdp + maybe an extra 5w for rest of system power, you'd be looking at like 4-5 hours depending on battery size. Won't really be seeing more than that until solid state batteries

    • @michaelsantos8650
      @michaelsantos8650 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      The hardest part would be bigger battery without making the devices too big because the bezel-less display is simple, it just costs more.

    I will be deff holding out on a SteamDeck2. I have the OG one and as much as I love it it still lacks a bit of power and screen to unlock its full potential, was thinking on selling it and getting an Ally yet I feel this handheld devices are still in testing stages for what they need to be in power to battery ratio. their next iterations will probably get most things sorted out with better chip, faster SSD, Hall Sensors, hopefully an oled display and better battery life.

      you do know that Valve said the next revision steam deck will most likely have the same APU as the current one? They want to keep on RDNA2 with those current low tdp performances.

      The Ally could be the way to go with bestbuy 2yr warranty. You'll probably get a free upgrade within in 2yrs😅. I like the VRR benefit that the experience will always be smooth. The plus for the Ally is having Gamepass and anti cheat games. Keep the deck for what it is great at. Both are awesome in their own right.

      @@tomoprime217 my friend has an Ally and he says that sometimes it feels unresponsive and sometimes it works flawlessly. probably needs an armored crate version of windows like the Windeck is doing for SteamDeck. I could get an ally just feels like the moment I get it a new version for any of this will come out with way better features. id deff sell the Steam deck, I don't need to handheld pc tbh. do you own one or both?? how do you like the Ally??

    • @tomoprime217
      @tomoprime217 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Quiqueleal85 tbh I game on a 16" rtx 2080mq laptop. I also have a 3060 ti desktop. Atm I stream xbox and pc games to a 6.8" S23 Ultra to get more portable. I am saving up for a Valve Deckard or potentially getting a meta quest 3. Now and then I am totally drawn to getting a handheld but these seem to get replaced by newer hardware that has even worse battery life. I can see the fomo appeal here but my practical side (wallet) says to wait. I dipped my toe into VR a while back (PSVR, Rift S, Reverb G2 V2) and my mind is a split decision away going handheld or vr. A part of me wonders if Valve Deckard will figure out a handheld mode for 2d gaming inside VR. I have a feeling the current steamdeck will have an even longer life if it hits retail. Valve takes forever to refresh hardware. The Ally is currently the best bang for the buck vrr screen wise. Plus you can remote stream your games off a more powerful PC at 120hz 1080p and extend the local battery life. I might at least wait to see how the newer $599 base Z1 launch goes. Even that is a step up above the deck. Note rumor has it Gamestop will be selling refurbished steamdecks. Probably means they will sell and buy decks going forward.

      Personally i feel that most games do well on even the smallest displays for handhelds, especially how a lot are console optimised and made to not throw a lot of small information on the screen, nor feature rich menus/prompts. For me the more important part is the ability to throw out HDMI to an external monitor and to take a bluetooth controller or mouse/keyboard (and the ability to take full plugged in power and great thermals). I still want to be able to have a richer gaming experience when i do decide to sit down, but to still be able to just unwire and take it with me in a sinch when i want to roll out.

    It is really awesome that we can now get such strong performance in such a portable package. Exciting times for PC gaming.
    Now if Microsoft can get off their duff and provide a handheld UI for windows we'll really be rolling. Until that happens though I'll be sticking to the units that have built in track pads (and a kayboard is still nice too).

      Considering they failed at properly adapting Windows to smartphones and tablets, besides basic touchscreen navigation, I doubt they'll go out of their way for handhelds. Maybe in 7+ years time, but don't expect anything soon. Windows 11 is still packed full of so many legacy menus and things; they're not going to suddenly update all of that for these recent handhelds.
      The best thing is to hope that Steam Deck continues to sell well and be the market leader, so that most of these anti-cheat issues start to become a thing of the past. The more Steam Decks on the market the more incentive for developers to fix their anti-cheat.

    I WOULD CHOOSE THE STEAM DECK.
    Why? Because it seems to be the only TRUE portable, meaning it can easily last more than 3 hours and up to 6 hours on the go at 8-10 Watts adjusting some quality settings in games. Lets not forget it crushes the Ally at 8-10 Watts in fps with AAA games that still look amazing even after adjusting quality settings.
    So many people complained about the Steam Deck not having 1080p and 120Hz ....etc. Valve knew this would effect the battery and its power draw too much. The Steam Deck was optimized for portability from the start in an amazing feat by the AMD and Valves team up.
