2016 Focus RS // Gears and Gasoline

  • Ford's been on a roll lately with hot hatchbacks, and the Focus RS is the hottest of them all. With a turbo 2.3 liter making 300 horsepower at the wheels and more mechanical grip than you can shake a stick at, the RS will wow you on a straight or in a corner, but especially in a corner.
    But really, the RS is unfairly good. It's absurdly good, and if get a chance to buy one, please, do it, and let Ford know they're doing something right.

    I picked my Nitrous Blue RS with RS2 package July 22. Mine came with the forged wheels and cup 2's. Also came with the winter wheel package.
    I did pay an ADM of about 2k. I actually traded in my 2014 Raptor for the RS. I had to take the deal. On trade I got more than what I paid for the Raptor! It never happens that way so I had to pull the trigger!
    I had a boosted M3 and an Evo VIII, previously. The RS doesn't have the power those two cars had, but it certainly has the engagement and smile factor. I love my RS!

    What do you guys think of the new RS? Also, a quick note: Alfred didn't buy his example for over MSRP, but there are places that are price gouging.

      I bought an RS and received mine on July 13th. I am not afraid to say I paid 2k over but it was worth every penny.

    Nice work guys. Really liked the car audio in this one. As a side note, anything with a 25%+ dealer markup on something with the name Focus is insane. I wish FoMoCo would drop the hammer on any dealership they find trying to do this.

    If a dealer marks up their cars like this. The dealer should be shut down. 70,000 grand for a focus... Get your head out of you a** ford.

    • @sinister0083
      @sinister0083 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Due I totally agree with that! I own a Fiesta ST and a huge fan of the Focus RS but at 40k and up? hell no its still a focus and will depreciate so fast! I would rather buy a STi because if I buy a subaru at 36k as soon as I drive it off the lot I can still sell it for 40k.

    • @fread51
      @fread51 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      WTF they are not ASKING 70,000 grand for these cars how did you come up with that hell you can get a GT350 for that price

    • @TheDustyaman

      +billy heaton There has been reports of that price for a rs.. its just unreal.

    • @fread51
      @fread51 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TheDustyaman have to see that for my self i don't see anybody paying 70,000 grand for a Focus RS if they are asking that much i'd buy a GT350 over an RS

    • @TheDustyaman
      @TheDustyaman 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +billy heaton If you think that is bad. Look at Singapore and their car prices. a honda civic cost 900,000 new. Then after 10 years they get a horrible tax added on to them for being "to Old".

    I've recently become "a Ford guy" by buying a new Fiesta, it only has 100hp, but damn it's fun little car! Ford has a way of tuning the suspension and steering so that is precise but still comfortable. I'd love to test out the RS, it's too expensive for me at the moment...but maybe some day ;-) Great channel, the RCR interview brought me here!

  • @TWRX_Chuck
    @TWRX_Chuck 8 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    The dealer mark is ridiculous. It pulls it out of the range it's supposed to compete with. A STI can be had all day for $36-40k, if this car is selling for $15-20k over that it's hard to compare. Hopefully the dealers chill out and this gets in the hands of the class of people it was built for. Great video as usual dudes!

    • @chucko83
      @chucko83 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeah i'd take my sti all day. if i'm spending 45+ i'm probably looking at a sports/luxury like the audi s3... but i get it, people have been waiting for this car a long time so they're gonna pay for it.

      supply and demand

    • @TWRX_Chuck
      @TWRX_Chuck 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Brad Q I totally get that and I'm not blaming the dealers for trying to make a few bucks. That being said it's hard to compare an RS to cars that can be had all day for $10k or $20k below the price and call them in "the same class". I'd totally buy an M2 over an RS for $55k. But for $35-40k I'd consider the RS over the STI.

    • @Ego_Driven
      @Ego_Driven 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah i agree this in not 50k+ car. But at the end of the day the sticker prices is only what someones willing to pay for it.

    Paying above MSRP happens on a limited run vehicle for sure. But I've got two dealers that were offering them to me at sticker, the one 5 minutes from my house has sold 5 at MSRP. Mine arrives in the next two weeks at sticker, although I'll be flying 810 miles to pick her up, it'll just be a fun road trip back. I believe the dealers would like people to believe they are being sold with ADM as the standard, but I think there is less mark up out there then that.

  • @avii5429

    Great video guys, you hit precisely on the point I hate most about this lovely little car. I really REALLY want one, but I cannot afford the double value of the vehicle that's being asked for it.
    The car was built for everyday people who wanted a little more from their hot hatchback, instead its being bought and sold almost primarily by "elites". A perfect example is all of the millionaire youtubers who all buy Paganis and Ferraris, the fuckers that can afford that shit anyway, they were the first in line for the RS. *cough shmee cough*
    The worst part about the RS tho, is that it is the true return of the magnificent Escort Cosworth RS, and all it is to most people who bought it, was a way to win a Ford GT spot. Most dont even care for the little car, they bought it to have the big ones. And the little guy, me, still gets nothing. And unfortunately I also think you're right, it won't depreciate. Just like the GTR, its just that good.

    I own a ST 2016. I thought it knowing the RS was around the corner. The owner of this RS upgraded from the ST and he thinks it's worth it. I'm on the fence though. Even at MSRP it's $10,000 more than the ST. Having the same exact interior aside from blue stitching. Is so much more fun/better to drive to make the $10,000 difference worth it?

    I checked and saw $10k markup locally (MSRP is $48k, Autotrader listed $59k. This is in Canada). Also nice to see the GT350R marked up to $150k (closer to double it's MSRP)...
    I appreciate hot hatches but I'd rather have a V8 pony car in the 2016 Camaro SS, Challenger R/T SP 6.4, Mustang GT. They all have a stick available (and the Charger R/T SP 6.4 if you want to trade that for doors).
    The apples to oranges nets a nice low mileage Porsche 997 C2S, Corvette C6 Z06, BMW E9X M3.

    If Ford discontinues the car after 2017 best believe the mark ups will go much higher than 5k. I bought mine fully loaded for 38k if you look around you can find a dealer looking to move them because they have been sitting on the lot or showroom. Honestly it is a great car I've had numerous cars in my life and this definitely blows a lot of cars on the road. Horsepower is just the small aspect of this car it is very sharp all around

    4 years later used models in canada are anywhere from $45-60k... now people know that the 2.0 is the better motor and the potential for power actually lays in the ST platform especially compared to price building a fast ST is cheaper than buying a used RS

  • @JCTiggs1
    @JCTiggs1 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    The residual value of this car will most certainly drop, sadly, just like the Focus ST. My local Ford dealership said they will be easy to get for 2017 and there is no limitation set on how many Ford will make. He said I could simply place the order, just as you can for a Focus ST or Fiesta ST (although ironically, the Fiesta ST is limited in production and they can only make a set amount each year due to limitations at the plant). The Msrp for the Focus RS in Canada is $50k. To put that in perspective you can get a new Mustang GT Coupe track pack for $37k with Ford employee pricing right now. Totally different cars, but it shows imo how overpriced the RS is here.

  • @jrzez

    I'm expecting my RS to hold it's value like STIs and EVOs. It has heritage. First time a FoRS available in the US. And all of it's accolades. Also it's very limited production/availability first off, then mix in Ford's production issues cancelling 2016 orders rolling them into 2017. I get more people talking to me about this car than my Evo 8 when I got it when they came over to the US finally.

    I definitely appreciate living in a free market capitalism here in the US. Over time it's brought along some of the most brilliant and revolutionary engineering. Fantastic marketing and implementation of those designs, although not without great cost, gives us consumers plenty of quality choices. Of course in any kind of market you'll pay a premium for the privilege of having those newest aesthetics and technologies..but the mark-ups on the RS (or any other car listing that far above MSRP for that matter) are just asinine. Like I said, I do understand that 'special' cars like the RS will most likely be marked up to a certain degree but come on. I saw someone ironically point out that the amount of some of these mark-ups would purchase a ST! crazy to think that the mark-up alone could buy you an already fantastic car.

      It's a gasket problem and if it happens, you get a brand new engine and it's covered by warranty.

    It's a Ford without an SVT badge, it's going to depreciate. Stop kidding yourself.

  • @ponygt6629
    @ponygt6629 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ford Focus RS is one of worlds best car when it comes to holding its value
    It never depreciates,
    Also dealer mark ups as bull shit everybody knows, but still there are buyers for Fords RS,G350,GT350Rs,etc for a reason
    Ford is the brand that has highest brand power of all big Detroit 3, they may not sell as much as GM, but the brand power and value is far more than what the others hold,
    Dealers know this shit, so they take advantage of this

      lol the car just came out... how are you gonna talk about it holding its value

    • @ponygt6629

      *****
      The MK II RS has held up its value and some even appreciated after being in market for over 8 years,
      The RS badge itself holds super strong value, thats why these mark ups, too

  • @UnratedRetribution
    @UnratedRetribution 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Could you not just order one from to factory and get it with no mark up? You may have to wait but better then these "mark-ups"

    • @thebrokecyclest2136
      @thebrokecyclest2136 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was thinking the same thing. Until I found out it's illegal to get a car directly from the factory. You have to go through some sort of 3rd party buying brand new cars. You can have a dealer order a car in the spec you want from the factory that kinda defeats the purpose. However I know tesla sells directly to customers. I don't know how though.

    Seriously 60 grand for and rs. I don't doubt its awesome but that's a load of shit. I'm a subi fan but was thinking about getting a rs instead of an STI because Subaru has fallen behind the competition. However after hearing there marked up that much fuck that! I guess if it's worth it to you though do it.
