Clarkson said the same kind of thing in his review of the previous Focus ST, and I've seen god-only-knows how many videos of fast Fords of varying vintages being flung about like a hooligan. Because that's what you do. If I won the lottery, I would buy one of these and just spend my days doing what he said, and have a whale of a time doing it.

Got mine ordered in April, and just waiting on delivery at the dealership. I was shopping for a new STI, but the reviews have been phenomenal on the RS. Good thing is they're not big in the US, so it's quite original over here.

I drove the Focus RS and to be precise, I felt it to be slower than even a VW Golf R DSG, sure it was loads of fun, but somehow it was hanging with corners a bit more to make us feel the systems work, by that time the Golf R,A45,RS3,even WRX STi would have completed taking that corner,
I am not saying RS is bad, but true to Ford Focus RS MK I and MK II tradition, the MK III too felt like lot of HP but less speed in real life,
I think a track battle is inevitable between Focus RS and Golf R DSG,cuz I still think the Golf R will be as fast as the RS if not faster, and the Type R in a dry day is almost 100% faster than Focus RS from my experience,
I think Ford will do an RS500 with under 1450 kg kerb weight(current RS is 1599kg) and probably that one will be fast, the Focus RS as of now is definitely not as fast as its specs suggest.

Yup, Focus RS dosent translate all its power into speed but more into driving involvement and fun while Golf,WRX,M 235i,etc translates all those rated hp into more speed than fun,

Personally, I put my money down on a Mustang. I used to own a Mk1 Focus RS and I'm a huge fan of RS Fords. As a car, noone will be disappointed by this. But there's something about that daft, brash, blunderbuss of a V8 that just crawls into your heart and there's no way you're not having it. The child in you won't hear of it.

I like Carfection. Proper car reviews with none of that stupid nonsense from Top Gear which I hate, with their pathetic staged pranks and oh-so-funny stunts. Very little decent content on shows like that, whereas Carfection is pure decent car reviews, great stuff.

They would sell a lot more if it also came with a good automatic. If they sell more would that be a good thing? I dunno, but maybe there would be more aftermarket availability.

+Leopard95 The ford FOCUS/FIESTA power-train / gearbox is the single worst of ANY car company.... I own a FOCUS 2015 "Titanium" the transmission Manual/ Auto are POS. I had the manual put in after two full replacements in under a year!!!

+ACollection OfTrees I had a 13 Focus ST, best car ive ever owned. Why would you buy the titanium over the ST, you cant drive manual can you? Their is a fix to those transmissions I heard, its a electrical ground problem causing the solenoids to malfunction.
I think it is really good but to each his own.

An AWD that already comes with a turbo.. An ECU tune will give you another 40hp pretty easily

Sync 3 is out now in the US and it's being rolled out on some Ford models in the UK this summer. Hold out until next year to grab an RS and you'll get a cracking infotainment system too!
Who cares what beats what by 0.2 seconds or whatever...you should get a drivers car for how it makes YOU feel as a driver and what you're comfortable with. Different cars suit different people and that also shows in the performance a person can extract from a car...only kids compare by book figures.

Ford definitely seems to be back up there with this one and having been there in the past, it's really good to see. You've forgotten the M135i though, and that's a shame because for fun it's probably the best hyper hatch out there. Not everything about a performance car is a statistic.
So the challenge is to see if you can get all the hyper-hatches together for a shoot out. You know, beat Evo at their own game!
Well done on the presentation! Fantastic "no bullshit" review and aimed very well at people who buy cars to drive on the road!
So it has a similar AWD system than the Evo X? It also offered true TQ vectoring and not the brake assisted systems you see in most cars.

That color...perfect on this car.
Considering the 5-15k markup US dealers have been giving this car, I couldn't imagine the cost of this car fully loaded. He compares it to the Mustang saying that the RS is a better drivers car, but the Mustang can be had near 7k under MSRP for a fully loaded premium (I got my '16 at 36k when MSRP was 42.x). The RS can have best drivers car, but I am happy with the Mustang's "bang for the buck" and much superior moddability.
Not a chance this would beat an a45 or rs3. Love the vids btw

I like the looks of the A45 much better, but it's more expensive and the Focus RS may have more torque with it's 2.3 (vs 2.0) engine.

I love his description about what to do to people who pass on it just because it's a Ford. Beat them at the light and give them the finger while drifting around a roundabout? I would absolutely love to do that to Audi, VW, & especially MB owners who think their cars are better & more special, because they spent more money on them.

Please do compare this to the civic type r in DRY condition and with a skilled driver on a track that requires power, as well as downforce. really like to see whos the quickest

I don't get people who think a Ford is uncool. No other brand has made so many iconic and classic cars. And think of the heritage. Most BTCC wins, most world rally wins, most rally wins on national levels, 2nd most F1 wins... Ford is only uncool if you're a YOLO yuppie in a pink shirt who ranks stuff on the coolness scale based on how much they cost.
I have a Ford van still so I got no beef with ford...and almost bought this car but went with a Subaru WRX instead. Honestly because of the name. When people hear Ford they think cheap. Idk why but they just do. I really like the Focus RS and it felt good on the test drive but the Subaru WRX looks more expensive for cheaper.

Subaru Pilot I would not say the Subaru looks more expensive. Especially inside. I personally could not care less what other people think about the car i drive. Most people have poor taste anyway.

That new A45 AMG with limited slip and adaptive dampers would roast this. So jealous we don't get that in the USA.

Does Drift mode feel like a regular rear-wheel drive car at same speeds on normal roads?
provides 70% tq to the rear wheels and allows for massive wheel spin.
This is going to sound so good with an aftermarket exhaust.
With race header and cat-back exhaust yes! deletes the cats...
Nothing wrong with the stock exhaust though and probably mountune is worth looking at especially with the RS Edition. Also as a bonus, the twin pipes look excellent and polish up well. At the end of the day it is for each individual owner to choose.
My current new car choices are 16' Mustang gt, 16' Focus rs (if there is not a huge waiting list), or wait another year to to save more money and buy an m2? Any suggestions?
Forget about Hot Hatches, it seems in general to be one of the best cars, especially as value for money goes. Obviously it won't hold much against the top of the line brands but yeah, it is a realistic dream for a regular chap.
Complaints; Dark interior. Apparently dark=sporty to the design team since if you get a Focus SE with the black interior it'll have a pale gray headliner and if that's not enough you can get the pale greige gut ("Medium Light Stone" in Dearbornspeak). Oh, and no MFT in those...

I dont think the focus rs is trying to compete with an audi or amg in Europe, is competing against the track focused Renault and Seat hatchbacks. In the USA I guess you could cross shop a focus with the cars you listed since renault and seat dont sell cars there but I really doubt too many are going to cross shop an audi rs or AMG with a ford focus.
The RS seems its on coilovers from the factory. Why is it so low if they're advertising it as a rally car?
