    I'm not a brand loyalist, but I've always been a little more partial to GM's offerings. However... if I were in the market for a full-size SUV, this new Expedition or the Navigator would be at the top of my shopping list.

      It's what the market expects. Those who say they want simple and cheap don't buy new cars, seldom frequently.

      I agree completely, just look at the truck market it's insane how expensive they are now....... and who in hell needs all of that damn torque 925 Jesus H Christ , now I can see if the work was progressing with this new found power but I have to believe what a ton of rock was then it is still today lol

      Will NorthAmericanGroup Well back in the 30's, 50's and 60's Lincoln pretty much is a match to Rolls-Royce, sadly though Lincoln is no longer in the good old days.

      The Lincoln Navigator is such a Hot Seller for Ford right now
      that Ford had to increase production to meet demand. Ford's currently selling about 1700 Navigators a month

  • @SteelRhinoXpress
    @SteelRhinoXpress 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    it's not a crossover based on a cars unibody, it's an suv based on a trucks frame so of course it's not going to be nimble.

    • @AWDfreak
      @AWDfreak 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      SteelCity1981 - despite that, there are still body-on-frame vehicles that are nimble enough for police pursuit duty, such as the Chevrolet Tahoe PPV and the new Ford F-150 Police Responder. A body-on-frame vehicle will never be as nimble as a comparable unibody vehicle, but it's fair to say a body-on-frame vehicle can be modified to be nimble enough to not be a severely-understeering plow.

    I'm surprised that we didn't see any of Motorweek's signature drag strip / slalom footage for the '18 Expedition. Typically, when they do that for people haulers, the results are admittedly entertaining. Seriously, I wanted to see how a contemporary truck-based SUV handles and brakes. I'm also wondering why nobody in the automotive press ever comments on the absence of the F-150's smaller and more frugal 2.7 Ecoboost from the Expedition and the Explorer. Some might say "why?", but I say "why not?".

      @c.albrow9161 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Matt *small weiners* 😂 how premature.
      I mean yeah a SUV that’s based on a truck platform is supposed to be like a Prius. I mean a highly trimmed massive SUV that’s made for work and family and fun (both on and off road) isn’t supposed to come with the proper engine for its class. Let me guess, work trucks with proper engines are considered tiny wieners? FOH with that bs.

    • @4liter
      @4liter 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I assume by 'premature', you mean 'immature'. Is English your second language?
      Anyway big guy, it was a joke. Holy thin skin...
      So you'd rather have a "PROPER ENGINE" than one with more torque, better acceleration/towing, and better range? Also, point me to a factory Prius I can buy with 480ft/lbs.

      My Yukon V-8 has 310,000 miles on it. Never been opened for repair. If I was going to ditch my next truck at the end of the warranty period, I think the smaller Ford engines would be fine. Not convinced that the smaller engines working harder over the long haul will last as long as the V-8 just loping along.

      +Billy Sou No doubt the EcoBoost has plenty of power, a lot of us just don't like Ford shoving their Turbo V6 in the vehicles that have always a least offered a V8. No big deal though, G.M. still offers great V8's in the Suburban and Tahoe!

    FX4 models get a limited slip diff- so do 2wd or regular 4wd models have an open diff? For over $50,000?

    • @4liter

      No, just FX4 has the low and diff option. I believe the 4WD just gets the 2H/4H option

    • @alexsmba
      @alexsmba 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you get the heavy duty towing package or the FX4 package, you get a 3.73 axle, limited slip differential, and 4x4 model gets the 2 speed transfer case.
      Without either of those packages, you get a 3.31 open differential, and 4x4 models have a single speed transfer case only 2 Hi and 4 Auto modes. (Not even a 4 Hi).

  • @zakariadalil
    @zakariadalil 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    In 1932, Ford invented the V8 engine and then everybody followed. And in 2009, they created the EcoBoost V6 Twin Turbo engine and soon everybody will follow. Guys, Formula 1's engine is now 2.0L Twin turbo and that's hybrid.. it's not about the # of cylinders.. that's old school!

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you want it to actually last you want a real powerful engine so you aren't over-loading that tiny ass engine which is why its only managing to get a mixed fuel economy number of 19...bet its far worse in the real world.

    • @zakariadalil
      @zakariadalil 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      William Todd man.. that engine is a mix of alum and CGI (compact Graphite Iron).. that is super solid.. paired with 10 speed auto transmission which reduces the load on the engine.. just some engineering basics buddy 🤗

    Its hilarious, how car manufacturers promote towing capacity of their SUVs, but payload of this cars is around 1500 lbs. If you are towing 6000 lbs trailer, you have to substract from payload tongue weight 600-700 lbs. You have around 800 for 7/8 people and their stuff, 100lbs per person. OMG this is shame so low payload capacity of so big cars. I am from EU, and i would like to ask why cars sold in US have much less payload capacity than same cars sold in EU (for example Mitsubishi Outlander: US payload less than 1200 lbs, EU payload more than 1500 lbs)?

  • @jlcii
    @jlcii 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Okay, why is the assumption automatically made that in order to buy one of these, you MUST be towing something? What if you just want it for the actually useable third row (sorry, the explorers sucks) and better reliability it has over these piece of shit car- based crossovers, that often times have the reliability of the piece of shit cars they're based on? Id personally rather have a truck, with proven truck hardware, then drive around in a gussied up wagon with a shitty turbo 4-cylinder or a somewhat-competent-at-best sedan V6 (The EcoBoost V6 is a different story of course).

      HONDA RULES - The later model years of the previous generation Ford Explorer removed the V8 option and made all Expeditions powered solely by the 3.5L DOHC twin-turbo Ecoboost V6. This new generation model carries over that pattern.

      No, if it was a Tahoe it would offer lower MPG, less room behind 3rd row, terrible 3rd row legroom, 2nd row seats that don't slide at all, and for the same price don't offer adaptive cruise, 360cam, etc. Oh yeah and it would tow almost 1,000lbs less.

    How can the Expedition's 9,300 lbs. towing be Best In Class with my 2008 Toyota Sequoia's towing weight at 10,000 lbs.?

    • @alexsmba
      @alexsmba 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      S. Toshi Adair because now they use the SAE J2807 standard, and the Toyota is now rated at 7,400 lbs.

      zhbvenkhoReload if you like overrated shit. I can’t tell you how many stupid Toyota fanboys think the Landcruiser 200 is the best thing off road. Except just about every off-road vehicle out there. The landcruiser has a shitty interior, shitty performance, shitty legroom. It doesn’t do anything well.

    All that work on a 'joint venture' 10 speed, and you're only able to manage 19mpg. Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic. Thanks Ford, for proving once again that more speeds=/=better fuel economy or smoothness. This truck probably searches for gears like nothing else out there. Keep it 6 speeds or less, or dont bother.

    • @alexsmba
      @alexsmba 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      LRulesTheWorld you’re obviously uninformed. Fewer gears will hunt more because it always has to compromise. This will get closer to the perfect ratio for any given conditions. Glad Ford and GM engineers are smarter than you. :)

      @ZepG 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      LRulesTheWorld
      Damn you are so smart that you can't understand logic, A full size SUV getting 19 mpg is amazing, My 4.0 FJ Cruiser with a mild lift gets about 16 mpg.

    • @Lrules364
      @Lrules364 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alex Stelling Incorrect. Fewer gears means the transmission doesnt hunt. It shifts properly through all of its gears, and is wasting less energy that the engine is putting out, and transfering more power to the ground. When you start adding more gears, the transmission spends most of its time in coms searching for the correct gear to match the speed of the vehicle, thereby wasting energy. There is a reason the best performing vehicles on earth dont come with 10 speeds. GM engineers are about as smart as a sack of rocks in a corn field. Myself, and other engineers, who actually know what they are doing, stay away from more than 6 speeds because it is inefficient and costly. (Unless a rare case appears where 7 are needed for higher speed.)
      You'll be finding out just how bad these transmissions are in just a few short years. Then, when the problem sheets and service bulletins hit dealers, you can come back and thank me for warning you.

    • @Lrules364
      @Lrules364 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      ZepG A full size tahoe from the 90s gets 21-25mpg. The fact that this truck hits $60k in base form, and still isnt recieving numbers that were topped 20 years ago, even with a 10 speed transmission and tens of thousands of dollars in 'new technology', is pathetic.

    • @alexsmba
      @alexsmba 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      LRulesTheWorld you’re mistaking “hunting” for shifting. Try a 4 speed automatic up the Teton pass, and you will learn what hunting is when a transmission can’t make up its mind between 2nd and 3rd. Laboring in 3rd and revving hard in 2nd. Forget about trying to overtake. Add a trailer and it’s worse. I’ll take the smart 10 speed thanks.
