Picked up a used 2003 Suzuki Intruder Volusia 800 from a dealer as my first bike last June. Only had 12,500 miles on it. Got it for $3000. Had brand new tires, brand new brakes, and fresh oil change. Also the previous owner had a few accessories installed. A Mustang front and rear seat that goes for around $500 and is super comfortable, a windshield which had to have been a few hundred dollars, a sissy bar, and leather saddlebags. The bike runs perfect.

You say you don't like windshields, if you've ever rode for a long time in the rain you would pray to God for a windshield and if you are running about 65 for a time with out then the wind beats the hell out of you, it does me so I love them now.

I bought a 2006 Suzuki Boulevard c50 with just 1,701 miles on it. It looks amazing. I picked it up for $2,450. It was ready to ride, but I chose to change the oil, filter, rear gear oil and coolant. Runs like brand new. It is my first motorcycle. I bought it to do some mural / airbrush work on it. I was an expert airbrush artist / photo retoucher back in the late 70's and 80's. I am getting back into artwork again and this will serve me fine. LOVE IT!

Anyone remember the 70's? Japanese cars and trucks were shit. American cars weren't that much better. While the Union controlled American care manufacturers were asleep, the Japanese cars passed them up in quality, price, etc. Honda is hands down a better product, dollar for dollar, than any Harley Davidson. You folks from Wisconsin can get Butt Hurt all you want, but it won't change the facts. Ask yourself; would I buy a Harley Davidson generator, or a Honda generator. The choice is obvious, and without dispute. Bikes are no different.

China is a communist country OK.
A Harley-Davidson clone made in a communist country has the same quality that motorcycle that is made in a democratic country where America dropped 2 atomic bombs.

I've never ridden or owned a Harley but I have owned a couple of cruisers, a Yamaha XV1100 and now a Kawasaki Voyager 1700. I always take the view you should ride the bike that's right for the riding you do. Once you've decided on the type of bike then decide on the brand and one consideration will be budget. Keep in mind it is the ride not the destination, it is where you're going not how fast you're going. Enjoy the ride and enjoy the bike you ride.

The Iron 883 shouldn't be allowed on the road. It is unsafe. The tires are so wimpy you can wipe out taking a right turn if you aren't paying attention. It also has a top speed of 80 and it rattles like crazy and feels unstable at that speed. this bike looks like it blows the 883 out of the water in every single category. Source: Former 883 owner

i've got a 2011. picked it up with 810 on the odometer. its now got 6000 and i can't complain. sometimes i feel like i need another gear but i think everyone feels that way even with a 6th gear. under 50 the bike is insanely maneuverable, above 50 slightly less so but still super easy to maintain. weight is around 700. i traded the windshield for a bat wing with a stereo for the long drives to keep me entertained. cobra pipes sound about as good as they can get for this engine. i've got the stock seat and to me, its no big deal, but my wife says she hates it, so you may feel the need to get a nicer passenger seat at least. the stock bars are perfect for tall people and if you're like me (5'5") just loosen the bolts and pull the bars back a couple inches and it improves rideability over those long trips. ive been all over and this bike has handled it. my 06 only needed to be replaced because of a cager, and it had 35,000+ on it. these bikes will go forever. just keep it under 75 (especially two-up) if you want to retain gas mileage. and one thing to remember, it may not have a tachometer but trust me, unless youre really trying or just slamming the throttle with a fist full of clutch, you wont even touch the rev-limiter. she might scream at 80 but she can still run 100 if you want her to. these bikes like to rev, dont short shift it. youll be fine.

Owned one for 2 years. Great bike, comfortable ride. Not meant for long highway trips though. Gets up to speed but not much grunt over 65mph (Canada). Passing lanes can be an adventure. Suffers from 'helmet-rattling' wind because of the windshield at highway speeds. Otherwise good bike for beginners moving up or around town.

I just purchased my 2005 boulevard c50. Heated garage kept its entire life, 5000 miles. Guy was just getting too old to enjoy it. I paid 4,000. Very happy. Did his own work and put saddle bags and the backing for the passenger seat as well. Two things I wanted in a dream bike. I’ve only owned a 250 Lifan street legal dirt bike (2000 something) and a Honda xl 125. Both enduro. So this being my first cruiser. Definetely very happy. I was never into off-road or sweet jumps anyway. Just good old fashioned riding the highway on a sunny day.

Owner of 2009's Intruder C800 (2009 - 2020) and 2003's Indruder Volusia VL800 since earlier this year here. It's an excellent bike, great bike for both single and dual riding, with or without extra luggage. There's enough power for highways and more than enough power for local roads - even twisty mountain passes, which it handles better than well - all in all, it handles very nicely and easily, if you don't need to ride past the 140 kmh (~75 mph) mark and enjoy a more relaxing pace, both on straight roads, as well as in the twisties. The FI equipped models' 15.5 litres capacity of fuel tank guarantees more than 300 km (~185 miles), older carburetor operarated ones' 17 litre fuel tank does that for some 25 km less (~15 miles). Generally it requires very little maintenance, where the costs (oil, filters, lubricants & even tires) are also really low. There are quite a lot of accessories available (both aesthetic and functional ones), and that both from Suzuki as well as 3rd party suppliers.
I did some 70k kilometers on the K9 model and added 5k more in ~1 month on the 2003 model.
    = I can only recommend it 🙂

I dislike your comment about fuel injected. I mean come on my suzuki 1500lc intruder has a constant velocity carburetor. It doesn't even have a choke, it has a fuel en-richer which I just let go for 2 minutes, get my gatherings together and she's ready to roll. Just two minutes. 120 seconds. That's it. I mean fuel injection has its benefits, but don't make the off comment that " it just starts right up" when my bike with carbs " starts right up" in just a little push of a button. In the cold ? Starts right up, unless we're talking about -20 degree temps, but you've got to have huge balls to ride a road bike in -20 temps lol.

-13 here in Canada is the lowest temperature I rode in across town on the Sportster. She was frosty lol! It's carburated and starts up good whenever it's above 0, anything under 0 she takes a little more but gets going as long as it hasn't sat for a while. Bike preference is like as Sholes, everybody has one!

I happen to be a fan of everything on two wheels. But... if I was to buy a Japanese Cruiser, I would not consider a Suzuki. I had the displeasure of owning a Marauder the year before it became the M50. Bulletproof reliable but so very underpowered. Just like the Sportster 883 I had owned many years earlier I bought it because it was such a good deal and basically intended to make it a quick flip for cash. Even the M109 which I think is a very good-looking bike is a let down in the power department. Of course this is one guys humble opinion. Ride on.

The only problem I ever had with my C50 was the cam chain tensioners going bad after about 30,000 miles. It was a bit pricey replacing those. Although had I known at the time how to do it myself I definitely would've saved maybe $1,000 or so. Regardless, what Sean says about this bike is mostly true, aside from this problem, this bike never left me stranded (and it probably never will so long as you keep good care of them haha)

People want different bikes for many different reasons. I dont like the Japanese Harley clones because they just look cheap. Sure they are reliable and affordable, but its the fit and finish. The feel of things.
That being said, I'm rebuilding a 77 Yamaha xs650 (British bike clone). I would have preferred a Norton or a Triumph, but they just aren't as readily available. These old Yamaha bikes feel well built, the frames need a lot of clean up and finish welding to look super good, but its still sturdy. I'm a 6 foot tall 270 lb man and I've owned two sportsters before this. I like the smaller bikes for getting around town in and back roads. Tons of fun.
I would like a touring bike for trips, but Im not sure the small "touring" bikes like the s50 is it. I have put some thought into getting an older Yamaha Venture. Just for affordability... I fell in love with the 2018 Venture, never be able to afford it.

I have the 09 M50, black and orange. Mustang seat and a smaller shield than the one on this vid. M stands for muscle. The M50 is the same bike as the C50 but configured a bit differently. Lot's of gusto on the throttle in those back roads, and in traffic gives you good distance between cars in no time. Would love to put side bags on it and have it as a muscle/cruiser with pegs.. lol. Just worried that I may need to lose my paladin detachable sissy bar, (it gives it style), because of the bag brackets. Advice?

I don't know what the difference between that one in the 2015 is but I wrote a 2015 and the tail section felt so light I feel like the back end of the bike was going to come out from underneath me so I think those bikes are dangerous to the Sportsters better by Leaps and Bounds I'm usually a Harley guy at the same time I like all bikes long as they feel right right so that's scary

How does this bike compares to a Kawasaki Vulcan 900? I like the look and the fuel capacity of the Vulcan better, but I've heard that the Suzuki is a little bit more comfortable for "taller" guys (I'm 1.90 m)

    • @JW-bw8nj
      @JW-bw8nj ปีที่แล้ว +1

I agree on the looks being better on the Vulcan. The tank is bigger also, but the C50 gets better gas mileage. It's also a more comfortable ride (better shocks) and handles better than the Vulcan. Can't go wrong either way, IMO.

I owned the Volusia 800 which was the carbureted version of this engine. I loved it. If there is any reason that these machines are not still on the road, it's because even though they were liquid cooled, they could not sustain more than 80 miles an hour for more than 90 minutes without overheating.

If you buy a 20 year old Harley and a brand new Suzuki, in 10 years time you'll still be able to get parts for the Harley, but finding parts for the Suzuki will be a challenge.

I don't think I'd want a full size bike with a tiny little engine. It's like putting a 4 cyl. gas engine in an f350. Minimal power and overly heavy are a bad combo
