    Jimmy seems like a real stand up guy. Great warnings about dropping things into the abyss. Its too true, but I'm hoping to try and swap out the alternator thanks to this handy video.

      Thanks for the compliment. You'll definitely be able to do it. It is a really easy alternator to change in comparison to most of other manufactures out there.

    Thanks, Jimmy, this is just what I needed. Thankfully my Subaru has spent most of her life in an arid climate, CA and NM, so the bolts all came out easily. The green electrical connector was a teensy bit baffling, but I was careful and eased it out while squeezing the clip.

    I tried getting to long tensioner bolt out and it snapped in half, how do I get a replacement
    The same bolt at 10:22

      Oh my friend that is terrible news. The best thing to do to get a replacement is go to a scrap yard and grab one off of a car. Trying to get it out of the little aluminum block can be a small nightmare. Also when trying to remove it you may permanently damage the block so it just isn't worth your time. Just go to a scrap yard and get a whole new piece. If you're in the Toronto region I have them. Good luck my friend.

    Is the N/A alternator the same as the turbo one?

    • @JimmysAutoClinic
      @JimmysAutoClinic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a good question I don't know the answer to. I believe they are the same but there may be a difference in amperage. The best thing to do would be to look up the parts for both vehicles online. If they have the same part number you're good to go, if not there may be a small non-significant or significant difference so I wouldn't chance it.

    Hey, so I just changed my alternator on my 09. All power seems good on start, once I start driving however at stops my idle drops really low and has stalled out. Any ideas?

    • @JimmysAutoClinic
      @JimmysAutoClinic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you have an automatic or stick shift? Did you remove the battery when you change your alternator? If so what can happen sometimes is that the memory from the computer isn't retained so like when you clear the codes on this car the vehicle runs like crap and will sometimes stall out unless you do the relearn procedure. I myself don't do the relearn procedure I just drive the thing and usually within one or two cycles no later than three cycles of cold too hot the vehicle reset its parameters and runs fine. So it may not be related to your alternator it may just be because you disconnected the power from the computer. I hope that's all it is.

      @@JimmysAutoClinic it's a automatic, I drove it yesterday after the swap, then again today and took it on the highway for a bit( maybe not long enough) and around town. Do you think another good highway drive ( longer) might get it to remember?

      @JimmysAutoClinic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Generally it should be okay after a couple of trips. I would take it on a highway trip with some City Driving mixed in. About 20 minutes to half an hour should do the trick if it continues to shut off there may be an actual issue that is present. Is there a check engine light that's on?
