Growing up with a gas station, traffic light, power lines, never ending trees, malls, city light pollution, etc., always within eye shot or ear shot, this landscape looks like another planet to me. Someday I will get there. So different and beautiful.
I bought a property in a place like that but it's mostly hot af, then suddenly cold except for the occasional nice day. It's a lot like Death Valley with more access to civilization and groceries. I wish I could find the closest hot springs. With extinct volcanos nearby, i think my chances are good.
My wife and I were blessed to camp here and enjoy the spring in the middle of November a little over 20 years ago. Someone went through the trouble and built a beautiful slate tub and the deck. The mountains were snow capped and it was down to 18 degrees at night but wow! What views! Thank you for bringing me back!
This is why I so love Nevada. Miles and miles of wide open sagebrush covered valleys. It is the one state to me that had endless landscapes like this. Oh this makes me miss Nevada even more.
Hot boiled Wonderhussy, you have completely and astonishingly outdone yourself with this video..!!! I have penciled in these locations on my places to visit list.. LOL! Thank you and Larry for the adventure..
Sarah Jane you had an amazing summer of travels, thanks for taking us along. After you rest & recharge I'm sure you'll be off on other adventures. Oh yea, Burning Man video to come !!
I love your videos view going to ghost town and and Old Mines I plan on taking a trip in my 1954 Dodge Town panel truck soon watch me on Route 66 your friend Brad
I’m so jealous. Traveling for MONTHS in this beautiful country of our’s! Most never see these areas in their entire lives. Thanks for bringing us with you.
The way to get down into the Punch Bowl is to tie off to one of the rigs and rappel down in there...but you might want to think before doing that. You never can tell what kind of gasses are bubbling up out of that water. Anyway, really great video. I'm happy that our group of intrepid explorers had a good time.
The only way to find out is to take a sample, get a coffee can with a rock in the bottom and then lower it into the water with a rope, a litmus test would probably determine if the water was acidic. I wouldn't rappel in there not knowing what gasses that are in there that could possibly kill you. Which is only common sense.
@@brianlanders5306 There used to be an item used by fire departments...sort of a reverse on the idea of a spray can. They were not only empty, but drawn to a vacuum. You could put the little red straw (like on WD40) close to a spot and press the button and "sniff" a sample to check for accelerants and such. But it would take a mighty long "straw" to reach down into The Punch Bowl or an old mine or something like that.
So glad you made these videos? Three days ago I was plotting an adventure from Phoenix up to Jerry Johnson Hot Springs in Idaho because omfg. I wanted to go take. Long soak someplace lovely.
I was there twice this Summer. Me and another guy unclogged that pipe crossing the road @ 10:00 .That tub is actually the best one there. It just needed draining and brooming out when you were there. The one up on the hill is murky and muddy, but it IS party central with the locals. ;-)
Hey Huss! Gorgeous video as we are accostomed too. Your background audio is so subtle it's a fleeting memory of the experience, and not really appreciated till you notice the credits. Sure like the Moby reference. Guess it would be too $ to put in a sample of that . As for the "sacred friggin" cave, I think it was more of a rendovous place, as were hot springs and were often considered truce space among competing tribes. That area was not the middle of nowhere for those ancient tribes, huh. Kinda makes ya wonder.
This just in from Wikipedia re: Diana's Punch Bowl: water temperature is around 200 F, it's a 30' drop to water level, and the rock is a limestone called travertine.
This is one place in NV that's on my list that I haven't made it to yet, and I see it's definitely worth a visit. I didn't know there were pictographs out there too. Nevada is the most underrated state in the U.S., by far! And I believe the punchbowl is a limestone formation.
Diana's Punchbowl, also called the Devil's Cauldron, is a geothermal feature located on a small fault in Nye County, Nevada. The spring is exposed through a cup-shaped depression about 50 feet in diameter at the top of a dome like hill of travertine about 600 feet in diameter............................ In other words....its volcano stuff !
One of the best hot springs was just north of dianes punch bowl. The hotspring was potts hotspring . The hot spring was on private land and conflicts with users caused the owners to remove the tubband structures and gate the access.
If the marker was brass, some tweaker may have stolen it. I really like the pictographs too. The panoramic views you show are sometimes the highlight of your videos. EXCEPT, that you provide constant, informative and humorous chatter, too. Brown eyes, right? Diana's Punch bowl looked like a purty cool geological anomaly. Thanks for taking me along. Til the next time.
Hey, another great show, can't wait to go see all that soon. Yes that is some hot water, I will bring eggs an boil them there that will be cool or hot. 😅
Astounding sunset from Platform Hot Springs in the middle of nowhere Nevada. Cave entrance is blocked by a metal frame now. Diana's Punchbowl is a natural hole with very hot water.
I am a wiccan, i believe in mother earth. There are many wiccan. I believe in shamanism and herbal healing. I love watching your videos. Great job on this one!
I'm a human. The earth is real, you don't have to believe in it, it's very real and you can know that. Shamanism isn't real. You can believe in it, but that doesn't make it real. That's why the results you get are no better than average probabilities. Herbal healing sometimes works. There's a chance though if your favourite remedies aren't called medicine, its because the results you get are only supported by anecdotes and are also hit and miss. You can believe in them also, but if you do get sick, stop pretending and get to a medical professional.
On Moby reference, from his memoir "Porcelain" he says "While I listened to this arrangement I thought about God moving over the face of the waters , when the Earth was new , before there was land and before anything was alive. The spirit of God , fill of presence and omniscience, seeing the emptiness and expanse of the new world, aware of all that's there and all thats gong to fo.low. The life that will come, and the death that will end each life. The trillions of creatures of creatures who will come out of this ocean, all wanting to live as long and as well as possible, resisting death till the end. All the life and death and longing and heartbreak and hope. I listened to the music, put my head on the plywood table, and cried. Then I lay down on the floor and curled up underneath the table, listening to the sound of God moving over the empty oceans, following a sun that never stops rising and setting. I couldn't think of anything I could do to make the track better, so I decided to record it as it was. I didn't want to ruin it by over complicating it. I got up , found a tape, wrote "God moving over the face of the waters" on the label , put it in the tape recorder, a day pressed recoed, listening and crying with my head on the plywood".

There is a Devils punchbowl on the coast of OR. Are you referring to that?
