If you do High School Musical 2, you'll notice that Zac Efron's hair changes color throughout the film. That's because he had just come off from doing Hairspray, in which he had to die his hair jet black for Link Larkin. In High School Musical 2, you'll see his hair go back and forth between jet black, in-between, and his natural brown hair. So, if you're wondering why his hair was constantly changing color, that's why. Also, High School Musical 2 is the first time Zac Efron actually sings. In the first film, Drew Seely did all the singing in the film and Zac lipsynced his vocals, which I don't understand why because Zac's voice isn't bad at all.
For me I have a serious grudge against this movie. I grew up in a small town where no one would tell us what high school was like. By the time I was 13 and this came out, i was so stoked to go to high school. Apart from petty conflict among cliques, it made high school look like so much fun. When I got to high school, not only was there more pressure to do well but the petty fights were downright vindictive and a lot of kids at my school were on drugs, had eating disorders or a whole host of mental disorders. And if you didn’t have a clique that accepted you, you either became a pariah or were simply invisible. I couldn’t look at this movie the same way again after high school started. It’s one thing if this was marketed to older audiences but it was clearly marketed at kids who hadn’t been to high school yet.
My only complaint about this movie is that they show us Bop to the Top and then try and force us to believe that it's not the greatest thing to ever happen on a stage
Exactly. I’d actually would’ve preferred to see the main protagonist’s performance come first and then the antagonists performance come last or next after them. Honestly, I think Sing (2016) did this well. As no good guy or bad guy who performed in the climax had their performance be the middle or first one that nobody ever thought should be seen as higher or above.
Well, Bop to the Top was a song that focused on climbing the social ladder and Breaking Free was about being yourself. Just by theme, which one do you think the movie wanted you to like more?
15:00 I always found it kind of funny because Coach Bolton is acting like the worst thing that could ever happen is his son being great at multiple things. "Oh no, Troy's a well-rounded individual! This is AWFUL!" 😂
I also found it weird because even from a "getting into college" perspective, it actually might even have made his college applications better. But "oh no no no. You can't!"
"It's cheesy as hell, and it knows it's cheesy as hell... and I love it" and that is how Kenny Ortega defined the childhoods of basically all millennial theater kids 😂
Y’all need to do a movie on Sharpay and Ryan, specifically on how their characters change through the films, with Sharpay learning to share the spotlight with others and Ryan becoming his own person outside of Sharpay. Their dynamic goes from codependent and borderline abusive to healthy and supportive and it’s great!
There was one teensy problem though lol.. Sharpay is not the most talented person in the school. That would absolutely be Ryan. Ryan/Lucas Grabeel is singlehandedly the most talented person in this cast, and I will die on this hill 😂
@@milkcrownASMRto be fair, Sharpay was absolutely sabotaged in the last movie. So thanks to the main characters, she never even got to properly audition for Julliard
4:21 this “brief note” is everything. It reminds us that just because someone is the antagonist, that doesn’t mean they’re the villain. I hope you do the other two movies and more dcoms in general
The good DCOMs like Smart House and Color of Friendship and Kim Possible So the Drama and Twitches and The Swap and not bad ones like Upside Down Magic or Zapped or Den Brother or Poof Point or Up Up and Away.
Yeah man. I guess as a kid it's easy to see the whole mean girl thing as a bad thing, but now that I read this and see it again from an adult pov, yeah man wtf. Sharpay put up the best shows and deserves her time on stage 👏👏
I hope at least some of that note was an exaggerated joke. Either way, understanding a person’s pov is not nearly enough to absolve them of guilt. Sharpay is absolutely not perfect. She’s honestly a bit of jerk, which is seen all the time, even before she knows that Gabriela exists. Is she a complete villain? No. But is she a person in need of growth? Absolutely.
I feel like not everyone gets (or purposefully ignores) the fact, that his team actually did not hear Troy sing at basketball practice - it's his inner thoughts and feelings expressed in this musical style theatrical way.
I know right?! Like, this is how musicals work, guys! The characters can’t express themselves anymore with acting and speaking, so they burst into song! 😅 The Little Mermaid is such a classic example (stage not movie)…she’s not actually singing “beyond my wildest dreams”…these are her thoughts and feelings!
Crazy ex girlfriend plays on this in a really fun way in the last season, with the main character Rebecca spacing out while she sings her heart out internally 😂
“Gabriella is like the human equivalent of a Wanderlust bumper sticker on a Toyota Corolla” might be one of the greatest sentences I have ever read in my life… bravo editor!!!
What I like about High School Musical, all of them, is that they're movies that aren't ashamed or scared to just have the energy of those cheesy sitcoms from the 90's to early 2000's. It's honestly really nice having a series of films that fully embrace being bombastic, silly and cheesy but are still willing to tone it down when the scene calls for it.
Agree! These movies were/are so earnest about their intentions and they don’t back down. I really hope they get to 3 because I adore that one most of all. It falls into the same category as the first (THE CLASSIC, THE ONE AND ONLY) The Princess Diaries for me of being a film that was not given the credit it deserved for having more wisdom in it than the surface would suggest. I love the scene in 3 where Mrs. Darbus speaks with Troy about how she sent an application to FREAKING JUILLIARD for him and while some would say she overstepped I believe her intentions were nothing but pure and honest. After all, she didn’t even try to force him to accept she just pleaded with him to consider all of his options and think beyond what his dad and best friend wanted for him. Sure, U of A may have been a childhood dream, but he is no longer a child and his interests have clearly blossomed well beyond what they were. Sorry for the wall of text, but I just want to say I agree with you that these movies are awesome and deserve to be cherished.
They work because they never take themselves too seriously. Yes, they have a message they're preaching, but they don't go all ABC After School Special about it. They have a lot of fun!
i just wanted to comment to let the editor know that i appreciated every single second of this video thanks to you!!!! you KNOW your lore and i can only stan honestly
My sociology professor LOVED this movie for its depiction of social fabric and he used an entrie 2 hour lecture on just recounting the entire plot and putting it into a sociological perspective. It was one of my best lectures 😂
Honestly, PLEASE. I've got a bit of a chip on my shoulder about her and her archetype, since my high school theater department was full of her and Ryan and I leaned more toward the Kelsey end of the spectrum. As an adult, I can definitely see where grace should be given to her because she's a high schooler whose world is being upended, but She's Got To Learn To Hear No, and honestly high school is one of the safest places to do that. I honestly can't tell anymore which Sharpay-is-the-hero people are serious and which ones are exaggerating their opinion for comedy or outright kidding. It doesn't come up much in my everyday life but still.
@@calihoyer1415 Omg yeah that conversation got so absurd. I'm definitely a feminist and I can't wrap my head around people's narrative of "Sharpay is demonized because she is a strong-willed woman, and they want all the women to be like the docile Gabriella". Like... Gabriella is the one representing making your own decisions and following your dreams in this movie. It's SHARPAY who wants people to stick to the status quo, for heaven's sake! Just because Gabriella is shy and nerdy, she is suddenly a bad female character? That doesn't sound very feminist to me... Throughout the entire series she always does what she herself feels is right, not what is expected of her. From keeping her math prodigy past a secret because she wants to try a different start, to pursuing both science and musical activities, to refusing to play mind games with Sharpay in the sequel, to leaving her summer job and taking a break with Troy when she felt like it wasn't good for her...
The point about putting so much pressure on a kid is a good one, but it also made me think of something else. Like, exactly he’s just a kid, why are we acting like the one path or hobby is a life-serious decision? My parents did so so many things wrong, but one thing they got right is not only not forcing me to do only one thing, but encouraged me to try as many things as I could and wanted to try. Dance, karate, gymnastics, baton twirling, fencing, basketball, volleyball etc. I tried so many things and liked quite a few, obviously most of them didn’t pan out long term and that was okay. I learned and grew by doing all of them regardless of how long I stuck to them.
I'm afraid I'm going to have to push back on the idea that Sharpay has herself figured out, because the fact that she doesn't actually feeds into why she's the antagonist of the trilogy (No you cannot convince me otherwise, do not try). Sharpay does know what she likes without as much internal conflict as seen in Stick To The Status Quo, but she's been brought up in an environment where she's had everything pretty much handed to her for years on end, so she's not properly adjusted to dealing with the possibility of other people being in her sphere, in this case theater. And while it's kind of easy for her to stay in a bubble during her high school years, that's something that would metaphorically smack her in the face hard if she tried to keep that mindset out in the adult world. Sharpay is genuinely talented and could absolutely make a case for herself with that talent, but she doesn't actually do that until the end of the 3rd movie. Rather, she worries more about sabotaging others so that no one else can even try, because she has no faith in her talents to stand up to scrutiny/competition (which could actually be a really interesting deep dive into her mind and imply that maybe she kind of knows or at least has an idea that she hasn't had to work for things as much as some others, but I digress). She becomes insecure the moment even the mention of someone else being into theater and singing is brought up because she cares more about the attention and the spotlight than anything else. If she were actually secure in herself and had a healthier mindset of doing it purely because it's fun and she loves it, she would more than likely be THRILLED that someone else is finally showing interest in theater at a place like East High where that seems to be limited. The reason why Sharpay is the antagonist is because she gatekeeps what she loves while driven by bad habits and ends up isolating herself from others as a result. The protagonists are those that willingly break down their barriers and accept each other's hobbies and talents and share them with each other. Note: Even with everything I just said, Ashley Tisdale did absolutely SLAY this role and she is fun to watch.
She’s a big fish in a small pond and thinks this gives her reason to use underhanded moves to give herself the advantage. Even in the second movie her parents have enough clout she forces the manager to hire Troy, give him promotions and perks, and then make the talent show no staff allowed to perform (which ends up working against her since Troy puts himself back in that category).
Ironically, I read every word of the editor's essay, but skimmed through your response. And yet, AND YET. I want to put the two of you into a room together and watch you argue. I would tune into that like it was the goddam Superbowl.
The fact that this movie is unintentionally an invective against the inflated importance placed on high school sports and its negative psychological effects on youths
I’m starting to think this movie is about how creatives are short changed and ostracized constantly, from as early as high school. The jock and STEM people get everything in the end, even the hero narrative 😅
@@Satherian If we're thinking about socially, usually the people who had the least drama going on in their friend groups seemed to be the STEM kids. Theater had so much drama, but also, on a different note- it's so much harder to get a scholarship as an arts kid. As a POC, all of the scholarships that included being latino/a/x, were for stem programs. Nothing ever fit my interests and for the longest time, I just accepted I'd never go to university because I would never get enough financial aid to go. I constantly wished i could have just been a stem kid.
Not sure if it's intentional, but the point certainly is true. People who get "creative" degrees and formal training, unless they make it big and get to the absolute *top* of their field, are usually treated pretty poorly over their choice of lifestyle. It's not even treated like a career. And I get it, to a degree, because you can't make money being a singer or a painter unless you're really good at it and really committed and what little money an amateur starting out would get is pretty pitiable compared to a "real job"... but at the same time, I don't want to live in a world without music and art. _I just don't._ And you have to start somewhere. Unless you're a nepo baby, you're not starting from the top.
I would love to see what you guys think about number 2. I recently rewatched it and realised how much Troy's feelings aren't taken into account again. How he is expected to be a kid and have fun with his friends, but then told how important his future is by others. Then he's feeling confused all over again.
Sharpay wasn't even a bad person outside of being mean to someone who didn't agree with her vision for the school musical. Sharpay is 100% dedicated to the theater.
@@KTSpeedruns I wouldn't say she is a bad person, but she is someone who is very entitled. If she's the best, then she should want to prove it. Instead, she tries to eliminate her toughest competition lol. In the 2nd movie I would argue she does kinda become a bad person though
@@KTSpeedruns I agree she isn't bad, only because I think the concept of "good Vs bad" really oversimplifies how complex people are. Is understandable if she never been challenged that she would act that way. I just don't see how being passionate about theatre and being talented is an excuse for being mean...
I've always liked this movie, and I totally agree with everything said in the video. Kenny Ortega is one of my guilty pleasures, and Troy Bolton (not Zac Efron) was one of my first crushes. I would like to point out: these high school friends were so committed to supporting Troy and Gabriella in their theater audition, they all agreed to set off a chemical reaction at the Scholastic Decathalon (effectively gassing EVERYONE in attendance with God knows what) while at the same time activating a false fire alarm in a crowded gymnasium. If this weren't a Disney movie, imagine the consequences of those kinds of shenanigans--all because two people wanted to make a musical audition and all their friends insisted on coming to see it :)
GUYS ON THURSDAY I FOUND OUT THAT I HAVE PASSED THE HIGH SCHOOL FOR HIGHSCHOOL MUSICAL ALMOST EVERY DAY DURING WORK. And I just needed to tell someone 😭
ya knwo what we need .... "Highschool Reunion: The Musical" get everyone back and have them confront their expectations in life and where they all went and what they did, maybe some didnt make it as Actors or Sports Stars, and now they found something new in life or something that they settled on in ahealthy way ... and the whole musical is about that 1 person from highschool that never went anywhere and gave up on everything they dreamed of, and the entire reunion motivates him to find his will and passion once again ....
It’s the fact that this was Kenny Ortega’s third DCom and fourth musical movie for Disney but HSM 1 was the only Dcom (at the time) to make $1 MILLION DOLLARS!!! While only on cable!! So insane!
Attempt #(10) of asking for Spirit : Stallion of the Cimarron!! Was my absolute childhood movie growing up and the filmmaking is so beautiful with amazing scores and concepts of loss and staying true to once nature even in the face of adversity! (Also thank you so much for doing High School Musical this was my childhood lol)
More High School Musical content! Also, Zeke's passion for baking is contagious! Let the man bake his cookies and cakes to bring some happiness to the world!
I was in elementary school when the first High School Musical film premiered on the Disney Channel and everybody watched it! It was the one thing that literally bonded all of my classmates together because it was just that good. When High School Musical 3 came out in theaters, I was in middle school and you weren’t cool if you didn’t go see HSM 3. All the athletes, the nerds, the artists, it was a trilogy that bonded everybody.
This was my favorite movie when I was a kid! It’s funny how much more I understand the message now that I’m older because as a kid I thought it was so weird of their friends to be angry about them being in the play. As a teenager, I finally understood cliques and the movie finally made sense. Not only would I be friends with Zeke, I’d want to date him.
You have no idea how much time and effort I put into learning the "We're all in this together" dance routine when they put that out to Disney Channel. So, well done for doing the starting choreo of that at the end, it was satisfying hehe 😅
I learned that routine myself from that 2 part tutorial video. But the only thing I don't get is why they left out the second half of the chorus before the Wildcat Breakthrough. You know, the part that goes: "We're all in this together. When we reach, we can fly, know inside we can make it. We all in this together once we see there's a chance that we have and we take it." I had to rewatch that part I don't know how many times before I finally got it.
I not only had a watch party when this movie came out- I had the DVD with the behind the scenes extras where they teach you the dances to Bop to the Top and We're All in This Together. What a slumber party that was🕺🏻💃🏻
But can we please talk about how Ryan and Sharpei have been playing lead roles together for years AS BROTHER AND SISTER??? As a (musical theater) teenager, that bugged me so much lol
“They still threw their ENTIRE STAGEUSSIES” had me cackling. Editor-san, where do I sign up to be your friend because yes to the “brief” note, but also you are clearly very hilarious 😆
I'm 71 and love High School Musical! I watched it the first time with my kids. (That gives an adult all the permission they need to watch something "beneath" them!) Loved it! Great music, cute kids, good dance numbers, appealing message, what's not to like, right? Yeah, continue the HSM series!
I'm sorry what? 🤣 I love Sharpay as much as the next person but to say she did nothing wrong, especially in the second movie when she tries to break up a classmate's relationship for no reason, made me blink rapidly for a solid minute. It's fine to acknowledge she is deeply flawed, manipulative, arrogant and selfish--it makes her path towards improvement incredibly satisfying, especially when they don't change core aspects of her beloved personality.
Now that you all have done High School Musical, you need to do it's '70s counterpart... Grease. The less wholesome, but equally catchy version of these tropes.
From @gaslightgatekee comment under Tronn's video "Why do we make excuses for villains" I 100% blame matpat for the way people excuse sharpay's actions btw
I have to admit, of all the movies I though you two would ever talk about, high school musical was not on my list, but I love that you chose to do it because it actually makes sense with your backgrounds 😂❤
From @christellecaj comment under Tronn's video "Why do we make excuses for villains" I hate the "Sharpay wasn't a villain, she was just a theater kid" take so much. As a former theater kid, i can say that her personality very much checks out with some of the snooty theater kids i've encountered
AHHHH THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE SERIES OF ALL TIME!!! I'm so incredibly happy that you guys are covering this movie, this means so much to me!! Thank you and keep doing what you do! It's amazing!
Loved every word on the editor note, literally BRAINS AND COMMON SENSE. Also now I realized with the toyota corolla thing, that the reason I thought I saw a live-action sally from cars was for gabriela on that blue shirt JAJSJSJSJ
Yeah, I totally agree with what you say about watching how people treat other people. That's my two big ways to find red flags in people: 1) See how they treat people that they deem to be "beneath" them, and 2) Watch how well they handle being told "no."
Whenever I think about jocks in the arts, I always think back to high school marching band. I remember going on the field for our half time performance in the band uniform like a lot of my band mates, but some of us marched in football, pom pom, and cheer uniforms because they were also on the cheer team, poms team, or the football team. And no one thought it was weird.
When I say as soon as I found out this was posted I CLICKED THE TITLE WITHIN SECONDS. I am the audience. I am that tween-teen audience of the late 2000s/early 2010s who was addicted to everything Disney Channel was pumping out at that time. I was OBSESSED with Zac Efron (he managed to dethrone Jesse McCartney for me.) I had all the songs. I had posters on my wall. I forced my Mum to watch the movie so much she knows the songs....... Not by choice but still knows them lmao I am. So. Glad. You did this video because you have put a giant smile on my face, during a week I have been going absolutely through it and needed to urgently reach out to my therapist to. I'm not okay at the moment, far from it, and really fighting for recovery from my non-substance addiction. But it's the little things, the moments like this, which make me forget for a moment and just enjoy life. As small as it may be.
I actually like how Troy's Dad treated him in that scene. As someone who was both in theatre and an athlete before. It's good to teach Troy that he has a responsibility to the team especially in such a huge moment. It's not toxic. As a captain on a sports team, especially one that's any good. You have to carry a certain amount of weight and avoid a certain amount of distractions.
I feel like I heard something where it was also a whole thing where he had Troy really young and it caused him to give up his own dreams, and now he's worried cause he's starting to see Troy exhibit similar behavior
I don't think anyone (at least in the video) is saying that Troy's dad was being toxic. What he was doing though was putting too much responsibility on his son while disrespecting his son and Gabrielle. He called Gabrielle "that girl" in a dismissive tone, blamed her for distracting Troy when he is old enough to make is own decisions, and for a sport that requires a team to play Troy's dad is putting all of that responsibility on Troy as if he's the key to winning (when again there's a whole team of people on his side). He also dismissed his own son's new interest in singing and is part of the group of people giving him crap for it. It's okay to teach Troy the meaning of responsibility, but Troy's dad could've have approached this situation differently. He could've told him how happy he is he found a new passion and met a girl he likes, but he still needs to put his focus on basketball because he has an obligation as a member of the team and as the team captain to work as hard as his teammates and do the best he can. And the dad could've also not made it seem that he's the only person that can get them to win the championships, because holy crap that's too much unnecessary pressure. Again, for the third time, this is a team sport.
Ah this is perfect timing! I was a hardcore fan back in the day (and still love it) and plan on showing it to my niece (10) and nephew (12) tomorrow. My nephew’s parents are the classic, “my straight son is defined by playing sports and literally nothing else”. He started doing tap dance with my niece last year but recently announced he’s stopping because it’s so-called not his thing, even though he absolutely loved it. This happens when he goes to his mom’s house, and my brother-in-law doesn’t fight it because he only sees men as having traditional masculine interests too. My sister has tried her best at cultivating different potential interests, but she’s the step mom so she can only get so far. Shes at least managed to spark an interest for reading and playing the trumpet, he never read for fun before knowing her.
The fact that the editor's note came from a guy makes me like it 10 x more, and, oh my god, I did not see it that way until I paused it every 3 seconds on my phone to read it 😂 This is no longer a guilty pleasure now, knowing you guys have watched it. It's simply pleasure.😊
Huh? Trying to steal someone's boyfriend and deliberately sabotaging them so they couldn't make tryouts? Bullying Kelcey so that she could steal their song? How is she not a villain? SMDH. 🙄🙄

I had to pause for a minute to laugh because I couldn't concentrate after lol
The amount of Sharpay stan their editor is has me in absolute TEARS omg.
“My Date with the Presidents Daughter” would be a fun one.
I'm crying about "ENTIRE STAGEUSSIES" 😭😭 the editor is a real one
Alan: "She can't even let him (Ryan) say the thing she is thinking." is hilarious is retrospect because you muted him while Sharpay was singing. 😂💀
he didn’t, the editor did lol
@malegazeofficial you seem like you would be a lot of fun at parties.
Yes and that's why it works.
They work because they never take themselves too seriously. Yes, they have a message they're preaching, but they don't go all ABC After School Special about it. They have a lot of fun!
The "brief" 4:20 editor's note is my everything. especially the last paragraph.
Right?!
I read the entirety of the editor "brief"'s note and loved every word of it
It made perfect sense and made me realize that I was manipulated to dislike the queen -- pity on me
Same
I had to stop about halfway through for time, but I did also read the last paragraph and my god... lol
@@Lucifronz ping-ing you to go back and read the whole thing

I personally can't wait to see Alan and Jono analyze the scene where Ryan and Chad wear eachothers clothes in HSM2
Omg yes 😂
And they were “Roommates”
Alan: So Jonathan what does psychology say about exchanging your presumably sweaty clothes with your baseball rival?
Jono: They fucked.
"this is very well choreographed human nature" - why does this description fit so perfectly? 😂
Literally every musical ever 😂😂😂
Because it's true.
i just wanted to comment to let the editor know that i appreciated every single second of this video thanks to you!!!! you KNOW your lore and i can only stan honestly
Editor, whoever you are. You are my hero.
David edited this one! Editors are always credited in the video description. :)
Or or or or oorr😂
My sociology professor LOVED this movie for its depiction of social fabric and he used an entrie 2 hour lecture on just recounting the entire plot and putting it into a sociological perspective. It was one of my best lectures 😂
Guess we need a villain episode for Sharpay after that editors note 😂
Yesssss!
YES
That edit at 24:10 is my favourite. Thank you, whichever person on the editing team was responsible. I needed to laugh like that today.
I grew up on HSM as a teen but I love looking at how different it is to watch it as an adult. Thanks for the deep dive! 😊
You're very welcome!
Agreed. I just saw the first one again this year and it's cool to enjoy it and see how it's different as an adult.
Ashley is great and Sharpay is an icon, absolutely! DEFINITELY ANTAGONIST THOUGH, I cant understand why people try to act like she's the victim
THANK you, all of this.
Thank you for all of this
Ironically, I read every word of the editor's essay, but skimmed through your response. And yet, AND YET. I want to put the two of you into a room together and watch you argue. I would tune into that like it was the goddam Superbowl.
The fact that this movie is unintentionally an invective against the inflated importance placed on high school sports and its negative psychological effects on youths
I feel like this and glee really made theater kids have a cultural moment of appreciation in the late 2000s/early 2010s tumblr hipster era
I’m starting to think this movie is about how creatives are short changed and ostracized constantly, from as early as high school. The jock and STEM people get everything in the end, even the hero narrative 😅
So true
Never thought I'd see someone claim that STEM kids have it better than theater kids
I agree in my high school the arts programs were all self funded where’s the sports were all school funded
They can never make me hate you Sharpay Evans. You are and always will be my icon queen 👑
Sharpay wasn't even a bad person outside of being mean to someone who didn't agree with her vision for the school musical. Sharpay is 100% dedicated to the theater.
Ashley Tistale as Sharpay was PERFECT casting.
@@KTSpeedrunsyou realize her being a bad person doesn’t mean you’re not allowed to like her💀
@@KTSpeedruns I wouldn't say she is a bad person, but she is someone who is very entitled.
Big YES to more High School Musical content!! This was a delightful episode.
So glad you enjoyed it!
The editors note at 4:21 was fabulous.
🎶 “FABULOUS THAT IS MY SIMPLE REQUEST” 🎶
Bigger and better and best
I need something inspiring to help me get along
I need a little fabulous is that so wrong?~
That's pretty cool that was the setting for the series too I think
ya knwo what we need ....
So insane!
I think you mean a billion!
PLEASE DO THE OTHER 2 MOVIES
I honestly do hope you do HSM3 because of the "Senior Year" aspect of it. Anc the feelings/emotions of being a Senior.
"Editor's note" and it's an entire essay lmaooo I love it
Also they didn't know about the Sharpay movie?!? They totally need to watch it!!!
Not me pausing and restarting that editors note over and over so I can read the truth😂
I'm not gonna lie, as someone who is 5' 4"..."Evaporate, tall person!" is my favorite line of the movie.
cinema therapy x high school musical makes me so happy the intro with "we're all in this together" in the background almost made me tear up
Attempt #(10) of asking for Spirit : Stallion of the Cimarron!! Was my absolute childhood movie growing up and the filmmaking is so beautiful with amazing scores and concepts of loss and staying true to once nature even in the face of adversity! (Also thank you so much for doing High School Musical this was my childhood lol)
I'm 100% on board with this request
Hell yesssss!!!

I absolutely adore that movie. You only gotta watch out for the remakes cause they're kinda crap...
I love that movie!!!

More High School Musical content! Also, Zeke's passion for baking is contagious! Let the man bake his cookies and cakes to bring some happiness to the world!
Guys whoever is recently editing your videos is a literal champ. When I tell you I read that WHOLE editors note 😂👏👏
Also to the editor, I will now steal the phrase "Wonderbread Couple". You are truly iconic, you are truly Sharpay.
High School Musical: Dance Along is a core memory
I learned that routine myself from that 2 part tutorial video.
But the only thing I don't get is why they left out the second half of the chorus before the Wildcat Breakthrough.
You know, the part that goes:
"We're all in this together. When we reach, we can fly, know inside we can make it.
We all in this together once we see there's a chance that we have and we take it."
I had to rewatch that part I don't know how many times before I finally got it.
Same
I never thought of that!!
“They still threw their ENTIRE STAGEUSSIES” had me cackling. Editor-san, where do I sign up to be your friend because yes to the “brief” note, but also you are clearly very hilarious 😆
Jono here. This episode was edited by David Sant, and he may be the funniest person that I know.
I'm 71 and love High School Musical! I watched it the first time with my kids. (That gives an adult all the permission they need to watch something "beneath" them!) Loved it! Great music, cute kids, good dance numbers, appealing message, what's not to like, right? Yeah, continue the HSM series!
I love the commitment at 4:20 , took a whole minute to read but I loved every second of it. The editor is insanely passionate!
16:30 V-Hudge? I never heard that before 😂 sweet
Please, that would be amazing!
Great idea 🎉
High school musical 3 is a must for you guys. To this day as a grown adult it makes me bawl
Am I at work? Yes. Will I watch this anyways? Hell yes
Yesss plz more highschool musical!! I hope yall eventually do the series!
Yoooo 2 videos in a week?! Let’s goooo!! 🎉
Woooooo!
This was one of my favorite episodes so far. I even read the whole Sharpay essay (and agree)
So in Sharpays iconic words: "I. Want. MORE."
NOW THIS is what I've been waiting for. We truly are all in this together.
From @gaslightgatekee comment under Tronn's video "Why do we make excuses for villains"
I 100% blame matpat for the way people excuse sharpay's actions btw
I have to admit, of all the movies I though you two would ever talk about, high school musical was not on my list, but I love that you chose to do it because it actually makes sense with your backgrounds 😂❤
i’m here for all the high school musical content, it was one of my first ever fixations and i love it so much
Editor? I hear you. I feel the same. We are the same. Sharpay is queen.
From @christellecaj comment under Tronn's video "Why do we make excuses for villains"
I hate the "Sharpay wasn't a villain, she was just a theater kid" take so much. As a former theater kid, i can say that her personality very much checks out with some of the snooty theater kids i've encountered
Lol for sure
Definitely. I'll choose to believe the editor's note is an exaggerated take
AHHHH THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE SERIES OF ALL TIME!!!
You should really do Atlantis! (The disneymovie ofc)
"my job?.... my flat?...... My cat? *meow*" 😁
Rodney McKay would be very interesting from a psychological standpoint, but he’s a different Atlantis.
Yeah, I totally agree with what you say about watching how people treat other people. That's my two big ways to find red flags in people: 1) See how they treat people that they deem to be "beneath" them, and 2) Watch how well they handle being told "no."
This movie has a special place in my heart, and when I look back on my memories of this movie, it started my love for singing. Thanks for covering it!
The 90's & early 2000's babies loving ya'll right now
When I say as soon as I found out this was posted I CLICKED THE TITLE WITHIN SECONDS. Not by choice but still knows them lmao
I am. So.
Exactly. I don't mind it because it's amazingly well handled.
Coach is right, but his approach was wrong
OMG THIS IS NOT A DRILL!!!!
I always thought it'd make a fun video, but never thought they would do it
IM SO HAPPY 😁
We did it! And now it is out in the world for you to enjoy. 😁
The fact that the editor's note came from a guy makes me like it 10 x more, and, oh my god, I did not see it that way until I paused it every 3 seconds on my phone to read it 😂 This is no longer a guilty pleasure now, knowing you guys have watched it. It's simply pleasure.😊
I can still remember timidly confessing a love for this movie freshman year of college and made a friend 😂
Yes! Please do more High School Musical. High School Musical has always been my favorite!!!😭😍
Jonooo, we want the rest of the trilogy ❤
I cried at 24:11 laughing the editor putting the seal on LMAO THANK YOU EDITOR 🤣
Editor: Please get them to do a hero therapy for Sharpay in the second movie. I read the note and you are absolutely right. She is not the villain!
She may not have been a villain, but she definitely wasn't a hero. For movie 2, I'd argue that Ryan was the hero.
She was trying to steal someone else's boyfriend despite him clearly being uncomfortable. Ofc she was the villain 🤣
Nah she is.
@@allyebravo I agree that’s totally not hero behavior
Huh? Trying to steal someone's boyfriend and deliberately sabotaging them so they couldn't make tryouts? Bullying Kelcey so that she could steal their song? How is she not a villain? SMDH. 🙄🙄
Please do Troy’s struggle in the second one!!!! The second one is easily the best high school musical
The cinema therapy video I never knew I needed
HSM2 is so great about the idea of growing up and chances in life. love to see your comments and HSM3 too the feelings and fear of the future. that's why these movies are so great talking about life in general. love this
The editor's note was SOOO AMAZING AND SPOT ON.
The editor's notes are EVERYTHING. I applaud you.
I am CONVINCED that me and the cinema therapy crew live in the same micro universe because this is now the 100TH TIME they’ve made a video on something I literally JUST FINISHED WATCHING
Love you guys and how you make me think about the film and Ent media I watch , i will be watching this channel till I ascend !!
Yes! Excellent observations here. :) As a former theater kid, and always a singer, I loved this movie. Please do more High School Musical. The second one is where they learn humility after realizing they’ve changed and not in a good way.
shed a single tear reading the editor's note
I would love to see some more High School Musical content! As a girl who was born in 2006 (the beginning of the franchise) I adored these movies though keeping in mind that high school in reality would be much different. These movies are cheesy and light hearted but so enjoyable and serious. Seeing John and Alan talk more about these movies would be great. Also loved the song and dance they did at the end. These guys always know how to make my day. ❤️😆
Honestly, the full novel inserted in was the best😂
I loveeee this video!! If you ever do HSM2, I would love to see an analysis on Ryan Evans, specifically his codependent relationship with Sharpay and him finally breaking that hold she has over him. While I love Sharpay and think she is misunderstood, I would love if how she treats Ryan is highlighted as being horrible. Also his hero journey is really interesting
Growing up with High School Musical was amazing! Please make videos about the next two movies! I would love to see Jon examine Troy and Vanessa’s relationship and how Alan criticizes the movies film making ❤
