Thousands begged Jacinda Ardern to stop being so cruel and unkind...
I like this councillor. Breath of fresh air.
Appeasing hopelessness generates more hopelessness
The fact that we even have beggars on the streets in this country is a sad indictment of what we have become. What beggars on the streets tells us, is that New Zealand, like many of the liberal democracies, is in decline. And this decline can be traced back to the early 1980's. The word that the politicians used back in the 80's for the brave new world we were embarking on. was "globalisation."
Don't mistake people who are actually struggling with poverty/homelessness begging for money and the violent organized begging gangs not looking for food, just money.
No. A moral decline. No one feels ashamed anymore.
Most of the beggars are begging for drug and piss money... Nike shoes and Puma gear beggars... scammers
@@secondchance6603 Yes, true... There will always be the unscrupulous that try and take advantage of a situation.
If we had poverty, real poverty in New Zealand, why do I see dropped food, bins with disposed food, not being eaten by these alleged poverty people?
The beggars came about with Helen Clark. I worked in the city and witnessed the growth of that industry. Its also been supported and subsidised by Auckland city mission who use “homeless” to increase their income. It’s vital to Auckland city mission to keep the visibility of beggars up so their sponsors keep funding them. They use beggars as a marketing tool.
We had a local beggar , people would give him money, buy him a pie or a coffee all the time, he’d happily sit in the bus stop smoking pot . He’d always hassle me and I’d reply, “ you live better than me mate “, and he’d just chuckle.
Auckland's Queen Street is littered with "Homeless beggars," Some I would say are not truly homeless but beggars all the same. Some parts of the street look disgusting. For the city to be safe and welcome back customers, they seriously need to get rid of this "problem."
Had trouble last night with the bigg begger from Chile. - on Queen Street- Auckland - He allways Drunk and abussive and needs too be Shipped back too Chile allong with that Chile senorita who has been nuts around Auckland City since 2001. A.D.- Hare Krshna's nearlly killed me for takeing her too their Riverhead farm , as She Freaks them out , and also Mason Clinic staff Freaked out about her too., as She can spin her head like on 666 movies.
A T have driven most decent people out of the rathole, we have to feel sorry for the poor buggars that are employed in the Super Shitty and have to go there.
Around about 5 years ago my family and I went to Auckland and we came to conclusion thar many of preferred spots near places like McDonalds where beggers are found is a business. Well some of beggers were real they pay for the right to beg there by local black power.. my daughter tried to give one ofvthe beggers a burger it was a cold day and begger said just money!😢
@@julianwalls1077 at that small mc Donalds they close their toilets at 7.p.m. and have security Guards too keep Bums in contorl/check and not turn ''John's'' into Bath-Houses.
End the welfare state.
This should be a police matter, nothing to do with councils
Only if the legislation exists for them to do something
Obstructing a public way Summary Offences act @justinsummers5873
It's an art form and requires dedication to perform as appearing miserable and in need.
Great interview Michael. Good on you Aaron for speaking out. Thank you.
Of course they're all being looked after on benefits, begging/ intimidation is just a side line for them. A bit of extra cash for booze and smokes.
Agro begging !!! thats right its all your fault that im here on the pavement !!!!! yeah right !!!!
Even Countdown begs for your money when you make a purchase!
I've had some 'aggressive begging' happen to me recently in Christchurch, approached at the petrol station pumps and asked for money a couple times and abused for saying no. Also followed into the supermarket being asked to buy food by a guy who was putting the things he wanted in my trolley. Supermarket staff see how much money these guys get given and they think it's alot! I don't think the gaps in our social welfare are big enough for it to have got to this
There should be a national law against begging. In the UK it's under the vagrancy act. It's intimidating and makes people fearful. Aggressive begging is a version of robbery.
But does it work? I remember beggars in shopping malls, around ATMs when I lived there, yes they're usually the drug users...
Having laws is one thing. Them doing something is another ?
Every single "homeless" person in New Zealand CHOOSES to live like that. Don't give them any $$$ and within a year or two it will become a less attractive lifestyle, and "HEY PRESTO" - no more homelessness in NZ.
Our extensive social welfare system isn’t generous enough to support drug and alcohol consumption for those who use the system
This guy has got great hair 😊
They make good money because fools give them their hard earned money, if you stop doing that and the lazy bastards would go away, they are on unemployment benefit so its just a top up. I just keep walking but do make eye contact to let them know I'm not fooling for it.
Who would police it? Certainly the police who cant find time to investigate crime except traffic and hate crime are far too busy
Living in Auckland, we have begging at our local shops. Aggressive begging at the local supermarket . Been like that for years.
Welcome to another day in sunny South Africa 🤣🇿🇦
I live between NZ and Cambridge U.K. and if the British have anti begging laws..... they are not enforced at all 😬 Specially in Cambridge 🙄
A sad byproduct of capitalism, democracy and rapid economic growth (ie. Inflation)..
Not for a service either, plenty hang out on traffic islands clean windscreens then want payment
SEEN THOSE DEMONS TAKE OFF ON EITHER lIME/bEAM/ BLACK SCOOTERS TOO OTHER aUCKLAND cITY SPOTS. - TIME TOO RECTIFY .
i see this every day.
Who are the Berger’s please, what nationality’s are they?
@@marklayland5424 two are from Chile that ahh know off, and the rest are a mad Mix.''
They approach drivers at the lights now.
I call it meth begging, thats where the "aggessive" is coming from.
panhandling in Vancouver a youg girl was making a good income she quoted makeingv100 plus$ a day that was in the 70s start adding up all that loose change
Just use the extortion laws that already exist.
Re the laws on begging in the UK, sorry but I have seen begging in the UK, that's not stopped it
Michael we used ti have the police offenses act 1927 which contained vagrancy laws and begg alms but it was replaced with the summary offenses act 1981 whic dois not contain manyof the vagrancy and any of the begging laws . I definitely think itvis time to return them to the books 😢
Aggressive begging is just woke speak for extortion.
Just going to pose a queastion people, would it be a police or civil matter, why, aggresive would have be clearly defind, as it could be free speach a charitable request for help? Im just curious where it would sit, thoughts people 5:59
Begging is probably the second oldest profession in the world and is a result of places with no social support...in NZ they're a result of people of a depressed and beaten down mental state...most of them!!..no excuse for aggression tho...to it used To be that if you weren't in the night shelter by a certain time you didn't get in. Most unconscious alcoholic/druggies have long since sold their watches....
Begging is a charitable appeal for help. Its also called "fund raising" (or looking for investors). Aggressive begging ?? Is this not disorderly conduct or intimidation?? Why do we need yet more laws? Why not fully utilize the laws we already have?
Do I now report as an aggressive begger the next charity representitive that knocks on my front door asking for money?
Be very careful, this is a slippery slope.
I read beggars are coming into rotorua because they can make 300 dollars a day
They Should go too Sydney city.- N.S.W. where beggers can make $.700. .00. per day...
@@seanodwyer4322 perhaps after a week they will have enough money for a ticket
@@grandadneal8114 ahh am Surprised they have not sold off the Auckland harbour bridge yet
Police on the beat would help to curb this, more than any bylaws.
1) benefits are to low to live on
2) getting a job for many of these people is near impossible due to HR screening, let alone their situation.
3) society needs to address the root causes. Why do we pay CEOs millions to do a bad job, and let people struggle with poverty.
4) he has no idea of how bad it is for poor people, benefits have stand down periods and don’t pay enough for anything, unless you are cheating the system.
If you pay more for them to look for work, then more will happily become beggars rather than work.
@@greyhamlogan2255 you are clueless, wait till you get your pension and the state decides 10k a year is enough to live off.
Why do you think Crime is sky rockets in NZ while supermarkets make record profits.
If you think about it WINZ should be a recruitment company first, meaning they help people into work.
*too
If people fail 'HR screening', it's because they are criminal druggies. They chose that lifestyle, they can live with consequences.
Yeah mate, "just get a job" that's so simplistic.
Sure some use the system, like many white collar workers...others it's alot more complex.
@@dave24-73 Besides the pension. Why should a small country with a welfare benefit, increase that to such a degree you could live off it, with only a finite number of tax payers. The previous government created a whole new problem here for low income beneficiaries trying to outlaw cigarettes for example.
good to see common sense appearing from our concillors .
