I have been there myself in the summer 2017. Simply walking alone down the street during my trip through Japan. Saw this place and entered. It was one of the best meals I have ever had in Japan and amongst bests within all my travels. And believe me, I've been around couple of corners! A bit spooky thing were all these dummies sitting at tables in the restaurant but hey, it's Japan, things are different. Having my meal half way consumed (that was a weird and tremendously delicious one! I pitied myself for not having more room in my belly for another one), I have been asked to join another table by two men: one of them was old, the other one in his advanced middle age (if I may express it this way in English). They didn't want me to sit alone, so within ten seconds I have been set by one of the staff at their hospitable table. They got me lots of drinks, desert and entertained me with a talk full of laughter and warmth. If I wouldn't have paid for my meal beforehand, they would also have paid for that, no doubt! They refused all my attempts for sharing the bill. One of them introduced himself as a traditional art master, the old one was truly impressive and surprisingly: master kimono designer. What an evening! Recent time was a harsh period, and tonight, the evening I have first time had a thought, so to speak... this movie reminded me good things also happen.
@@elenagavrilova7499 Haha, I had a serious problem finding this place on maps even one day after visiting them a few years ago. I don't know how to share a Google location with you here, so let me describe the place. Here you are: the restaurant is called Issen Yoshoku. It is at the center of Kyoto, street name: Yamatooji-dori. Gion-Shijo metro station (underground, tube, whatever its called in English), take the exit 7 to exit the station and you are maybe 150m from the reataurant :) ah, probably if you copy paste this phrase in Google Maps, it'll take you there! 2Q3F+J7 Kyoto, Japan
i had a very similar experience the very first time i visited Tokyo, in a tiny sushi place i entered walking around without a plan.. and sitting alone in front of the chef, 2 other older men set side by side and start offering me sake and different sushi dishes because as a tourist i had to try... long time ago, most basic communication based on my small japanese-english dictionary (no smart phones or google translate.. yet! 🤣😋)... one of the reasons i love Japan (been there so many times, and hating eve more covid for not giving me a chance to go this year!)

Anthony Bourdain said many times that Japan was his favorite country for food. I couldn't agree more. Japanese craftsmanship in everything is simply a cut above, and the food is no exception. I miss it a lot.

We have chakuli pitha which is cooked in similar way, green gram, rice grinded with water and salt after being fermented in water, constitute it . Mostly people like tender ones, more oil more soft but health conscious people like it dry, some even like crisp ones but they taste the best as soft and tender with mutton kasa . Pithas of Odisha were indigenous, Odisha westernized quite late but surprisingly a variety of international dishes have resemblances with varieties of pithas . Odia cooks are known for simple but delicious dishes with fewest ingredients .

The second time it's because he poured the pancake mix into the ingredient, it acts like a glue with the heat.

Nah, let's agree to disagree. Most of their meals are totally petite. Do not know where this assumption of yours stemmed from.
Wow! Look at his aim after cracking the eggs without looking. So cool. 🤩
