You did a really good job! I'm a pro stylist and you actually used a lot of basic techniques used in layering, you don't have to go to school to give a good haircut, it's really basic geometry! Angles are what will give you that layered effect! One hot tip though, get a cutting comb, it'll really help you line up the guides on where to cut, and it'll smooth out the little knots that your brush won't take care of! Also on the front layers don't cut the scissor straight across, try a point cutting technique-it's super easy and it'll make it look more natural than just a harsh line....think of it as blending makeup lol. Love you carli!!
My mom has been a hair dresser for 30 years...SHE wouldn't dare cut her own hair. YOU are amazing Carli! I have got her watching your videos now. We were doing braids the other day with you-- and NOW you have given her more ideas. Girl, you have a natural talent for fashion, make up and hair. I am a fan!
This video was exactly what I needed! I'm a stay at home mom with two kiddos pre-school age with no childcare relief. They are ALWAYS with me! My partner is only home one week at a time every seven weeks. It has been two years since my last haircut. It was down to my belly button! I watched this video about 5 times before I got up the nerve to do it, but I figured anything was better than where I was. I don't think I did everything perfect, but my natural curl came back and it looks so great! I'm not just a tired mom, I can look sexy again!! Thank you so so much!! ❤️
Yous are haterssss. She looks great. She cut what works for her. She said a million times "this may not work for everyone." and all of you are like I WOULD NEVER. Cool. Don't. Carli is not saying this is the only way to cut your hair. She's saying this is what works FOR HER. And since she likes it, she figured MAYBE some of you would like it too. And all you "professionals" go back to Great Clips, and shut up. No one wants to hear how you "cringed" watching the videos. Her hair looks better than mine, and I get it done professionally.
Rita Faustino Im going to cosmo school and honestly I think she did an awesome job, i've cut my hair myself and I actually think I wanna try this. She used techniques that we learn in school and I think its awesome that she can do it on her self.
If the right way to cut our hair is the one that all of the hairdresses do (the ones that I've met), then I prefer having my hair cut by this girl because her result once is better than all the times I've had my hair cut by "professionals" Thank you good evening.
Lmaooo there are about 900 "hair stylists" in the comments right now lmao all giving "advice" 😂😂 clearly this is how SHE likes it since SHE has been doing this for yearrrrrs!
Ikr! I don't understand how people were cringing? What's there to cringe about? Those who like to go to a professional, go right ahead but this is how she likes to do it, it's her hair, her choice, get over it
I've been cutting layers in my hair since you uploaded your first video about this!! It saves me so much money and I always get compliments! Thanks Carli:)
Me too! Since the first video she put up! I haven't gone to the hair dressers in ages! I don't ever feel like I need to even when I move home :) Thanks Carli!
I tried this at home this evening, following your instructions to the word, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the way my hair is. It is THE BEST haircut I've ever had, and I had the same problem where my hair was cut too short or ruined at salons, and couldn't grow past my shoulders. I'll never go to the salon again after this. Thanks SO MUCH for this great tutorial! And your hair looks amazing by the way. I hope I can now grow my hair that long and healthy too!
I went to cosmetology school, and I still can't trust a hair stylist cutting my hair! I do it myself as well. You are really making me want a keratin treatment though. Your hair looks so silky smooth!
I've been cutting my hair with your 'method' since your first tutorial and I've loved it every time. I haven't gone to a professional in years (this started because every time I had gone they f'd up my hair royally) and I get compliments *all* the time. I agree that if it's your first time you should *go slow* and just cut a little bit at a time. You can always go back and take off more but you can't add more lol once you get the hang of it, it's a super quick and easy thing to do to maintain it every so often. Thank you, I love your videos!
I tried your technique like 4 months ago and really loved how it came out! I was worried I'd mess it up because my hair is really thin and kinda wavy, but the layers gave my hair a little more volume and when it curls it looks fantastic, so thank you so much! I'm about to cut it again 'cause it's a little damaged at the tips, thanks again! 😊
WOW! YOU ARE GORGEOUS! I'm a retired hairdresser and absolutely love your technique and admire your tenacity to boldly layer your beautiful long hair. I'm not sure if I am even there yet but, maybe after taking a few pain pills, I would be able to withstand holding up my arms and cutting my own long hair as well. Congratulations darling on a job well done. 👍👏🍃🌹🍃💇♀️
I use your original hair cutting video the first time I ever cut my own hair into layers, and it turned out beautifully. Now, it's all I ever use. I love your technique and it's the only way I ever have my hair cut the way I want! xx
I have done the Park ave $500 hair cuts and the $30 haircuts....and I cut my own hair once since i was so sick and tired of getting lousy hair cuts....and i LOVED it!!! and people loved it. No hairdresser knows how your hair drapes better than you do!!!
OMG you literally posted this at the perfect time. I'm competing at Miss World America this weekend and I always cut my own hair but I've been dying to watch how you do your layers. I'm about to hop in the shower and do it right now and it's just so ironic that you posted this lol!
I don't know abt hair cutting techniques BUT guys I tried it and I'm more than happy abt the result!!!! Thank you so much! this is the best haircut I ever !!! got tons of compliments. THANK YOU SO MUCH CARLY
To get the same effect and blend your layers a bit more point cut and that will give you really pretty blended and full hair - advice from a hairstylist
I've read a lot of these comments because I was curious about what others had to say. Everyone is saying that they go to professionals and they mess up their hair. One word of advice, know what to ask for when you go in to get a cut. Your version of what you want may be different than what the stylist may be used to but it doesn't mean we don't know how to cut hair. We use different terms sometimes. we spend a lot of money and time to do what we do. It doesn't come over night, it's a learning experience over time. I'm not saying that her haircut was awful because it wasn't but please understand that as professionals we see things others may not see that could be done. And i was not trying to sound hateful in any way so please don't bash me. Lol
Thank you! Most "bad haircuts" come from miscommunication. Either the client doesnt know how.to explain it, doesnt know what they want or the stylist doesnt completely understand. Its not that we dont know what were doing. I will never cut someones hair until I fully understand what they want and make sure the client also understands what theyve asked for. I dont play around with peoples hair and I dont play they "you fucked my hair up" game. If im not comfortable with what someone asks lr dont think I can properly execute it, I send them to someone who can. Ive had tons of repeat clients and client referals just by making sure there is complete clear communication.
missmentalavenged I feel it should be the other way around. It's up to the professional to make absolutely sure you understand what the client wants. Yes, I can bring in pictures, but the stylist can also grab some pictures to double check. Yes, I may use the wrong terms for a certain haircut, but the stylists should know what may cause confusion. Like what do you consider a long bob, do you mean this, or this, etc. Also, stylists sometimes pretend they know my hair. They'll for example think it's a lot more straight than it actually is, and even when I warn them, they sometimes sort of ignore that. But I'm very assertive at the hair salon and I make sure I pay attention to every move they make. As soon as I think I don't like it, I stop them immediately. But not everyone is that assertive.
missmentalavenged I've literally told a hair stylist not to take off more than 3 inches - and I don't have split ends, there was no reason to do so. She laughed at me, but said she'd do as I asked and turned my chair. Next thing I know, she's cut off more than seven inches! You go to a stylist expecting them to listen to you, and they turn it into a big deal saying that no woman should have hair past her bra line. Professionals always think they need to create a 'style,' so much so that they don't listen to explicit directions. I'll never go back to a professional.
A hairdresser I used 15 years ago (when i had very long hair like this) taught me to flip my head over, cut it straight off, and when you flip back over it's perfectly layered. He called it the 5 minute haircut:) I then taper the front a little and done. This has worked great for me and the bonus is that it's easy to maintain and cut the same exact layers each time.
I'm a cosmetologist- and I picked up a few good ideas from this! there are a ton of ways to get to the same end. i think its great! you go girl . love love love you!
Hey, who cares if she is doing it "wrong"? She looks GREAT and she is happy with how her hair looks. Her hair looks really healthy and nice, so what if she is not using the same techniques that most hairdressers use? It's better than her going to a professional and getting a haircut that she isn't happy with.
Abby Bee well if she's teaching people how to do it in a way that would look great on her but odd on someone else that's not good. She cuts her hair in a way that will make it longer in the front and shorter in the back.
People here need to get some perspective.. It's a fucking haircut, not DIY open heart surgery. Why don't you all start caring and whining about something important like world hunger or the fact that there are still people living on the streets in developed countries? Please stop acting like entitled spoiled children. If you don't like what you see then move on and don't attempt to recreate it at home. It's quite simple.
how about you caring about the country you live in. USA! Tons of people right here living on the street but people care about "underdeveloped" countries. If you care so much for them, then MOVE THERE and help them out. Ahhh, but no right?? Not you! Let someone else, right? Your a Moron.
mojoblue70 I'm perfectly calm thank you. I'm just pointing out how ridiculous the negative and bitchy comments are. Some people here have been AWFUL to this girl - over a haircut . . I mean please! Get some perspective!
Absolutely luv your attitude about the whole hair cutting thing! Ive stopped going to hairdressers as well for many reasons, its shocking how we outsource almost everything nowadays and we all listen to ppl telling us how things are supposed to be, how irritating. You did a lovely job, you look great.
Omg. I've been cutting my own long thick hair for 15 years. When I was 18 someone jacked it up... but babe! Use a comb from root to end before the angle cuts. Maybe it's just the ocd in me. Looks great though. You have beautiful healthy hair! No comb made me freak out a little ;)
Your hair is beautiful! I don't go to salons either...when I ask for them to cut an inch they took 6-8 inches off! I was so upset....you can't grow your hair out in a week....It took me a good year to grow it back, so after that, I said NO one besides myself will ever cut my hair again!
I get the opposite thing...I ask my hairdresser to take more of my hair ( like 4-5 cm) becouse it grows so fast, but she always takes about 3 centimeters of it....(probably becouse she wants me to be back sooner) 😑
Agree!! When I went to salons I'd only go to stylists with long hair, because they seemed to understand my fear if cutting off too much! Anytime I deviated from this, I had a stylist wanting to cut so much off with the excuse "oh but for health purposes I'd really need another 4 inches..." . I really feel like alot of hair dressers get way too excited to cut off long hair. In my experience anyway..
Its amazing to see the type of women who end up having to cut their own hair due to bad experiences at the salon. Ive come to youtube searching for self cut tutorials for the same reason. I mean every time I got my haircut it got butchered. Im glad to know Im not the only one & to find help on here! Ive been struggling with this issue for years! I finally have long healthy hair again & nobody is touching it but me! Txu for the tutorial
same.. I strongly dislike hairdressers.. left crying a couple of times.. apparently "just a trim" means chopping my hair from almost hip-length to just below the shoulders? never again. That little chop is years and years of insecuity and trying to grow back my hair...
I totally relate to that. The same used to happen with me, since then I stopped trimming my hair at a salon... And then hair started to be frizzy and dry at the end... But just yesterday I tried cutting by my self, and it's so so pretty... Now forget salon forever... 🤗😊
Gabriella Kovács i mean... not all hairstylists* are like that. I’ve never got any complaints ever that I have cut it too short. Some hairstylists are just scissor happy.
Same. I had really long hair and wanted a trim and some extra long layers adding. I ended up with a Bob cut that ended at my ears. 😭 I do my own hair now.
I agree somewhat. I went to a professional hairdresser, who was actually really terrific, even though she spoke little English, and communication was a bare minimum. But she saw what she wanted in my hair (it's as long as this girls hair), and even though I said something else, she still cut it her way. Of course it still looked great, because when you cut long hair, I think like someone else said, you can cover it well. But I'm not sure I ever got the cut that I wanted, from her. That said, I've never had the nerve to go this far in cutting my own hair. But my mother who has long hair too, cuts hers and it always looks great. I really don't think anyone would notice what this girl has done, unless she went to a professional. Then, they would be like what? lol
I agree. I stopped going to the salon years ago because I have very long hair (Exact same as Hers) and every time I ask them to cut only 1inch and to add layers, they always cut about 2-3 inches and do not Layer my hair the way I asked them to so this is why I've always cut my own layers
This cut is perfect! I've grown out my bangs from high school and when they got to chin length they started to look really heavy and flat. I've been trying forever to blend them with my hair. I almost caved and cut them shorter again but this was a perfect way to blend them in and give my hair a more effortless look. Thanks!
You know what you're doing when you cutting your own hair lot of people probably felt like. They don't want to go to salon how people just yet because I'm tired of your hair and they don't listen how you want it done I know what you're saying when I saw your video it gave me courage to do my own hair and it came out just like yours keep doing a good job
Helpful tip point cut your bangs and layers so they have better blending I could see the chopy lines but if you cut vertically into the hair after you chop it it will blend so much better
Carli, your hair is so beautiful and even though you're not a professional, you are doing it great! Plus, as long as you're happy with the result, it's fine.
I used to do something pretty similar to this and would never go to the hairdressers! Then I stopped and the past few times I've got it cut professionally, it's looked a mess with short thick layers and hasn't grown much... Carli knows her own style best and she's been doing it for years.. You can all see her hair is to die for! I'm definitely going to go back to cutting it my own way and by no means am I a professional, I just know I was so much happier when I did my own hair 😊
Molly Kinslow just be conservative with it! Only take off like MAYBE a quarter of an inch at first to see if you can, and thats such a short amount that it'll get any split ends off but won't really affect the length. Good luck!
I was terrified when I first cut mine, but now I wiz right through it. my hair is super long too. I just added layers. safest way you do it is pull all your hair into a ponytail but at the front of your head (make sure it's even and brushed, then suzzor up into the hair. then the layer, from the ears up gather the top section and repeat but sizzor up a little more. then let your hair down. :) do a little at a time till you're comfortable. I took 4 inches off my shortest layer. looks great.
That is the technique I use... the pony tail. It works wonderfully and you really cant butcher your hair. I think doing it the way in this video for ME... it would not end well. She is beautiful and her end result is amazing, however, I will stick to my ponytail technique.
Very true... Hairdressers really spoilt my hair and made its worse over the years to the point that it stopped growing... And now it's been 1.6 years since m growing my hair without cutting... My hair feels so much healthier and they are actually growing.
I cut my hair yesterday using this video and my hair looks great! I didn't cut much just in case it went wrong but I am so happy with it that next time I will be a little bit more adventurous :) Thank you Carli! I always thought there might have a system of cutting my own hair by dividing it into parts but I could never figure out how, and also what angles and you managed! so well done! and I am much grateful! I will only go back to the hairdresser when I decide to have my hair short again until then I am doing it myself!
If you use cheap ass scissors or not professional scissors then you're actually breaking the hair shaft and not getting a clean cut. In the long run you are breaking your hair and causing split ends.
I have been using kitchen scissors to cut my hair for the past 10 years with no split ends or "broken hair shafts" to report. The quality of giving myself bangs (especially side bangs) is a challenge and not recommended with kitchen scissors, they come out super choppy
I've used my little cousins old safety scissors once, did not have a problem. Actually got complimented about my hair and the style it was cut in afterwards. I've been cutting my own hair since high school with almost any scissors I can get my hands on. The worst outcome I had was from the "right tools".
I think this is awesome. You're right, a lot of barbers just see a bunch of long hair and they just start chopping and styling it the way they want, instead of the way the person wants their hair to be. And the client is the one who has to live with the hair if it ends up being annoying! If you cut it yourself then you control what happens to it, great technique and you have a great system here. Your hair is gorgeous too!
As a hairstylist of 17 years I have no problem with this vid. When people mess up their hair doing this, the more appreciation for the hours of experience and education for what we do.
D Serrano we just wanna "cross check" of course it's about her preference it's her hair. If people want to try her technique go for it. Her hair looks beautiful all the time.
I first tried your technique 6 months ago and guess what? It was my best haircut ever! Then I did it again after watching your video as a refresher and Perfect yet again! I officially have long hair, thanks Carli :)
I desperately needed a haircut a couple weeks ago, right around the time that everything shut down for coronovirus. Decided to try cutting my own hair at home and it turned out great! Thanks, Carli!
Hairdressers say that she is doing wrong, because if everyone cut their hair themselves they are afraid of not having to work. She has beautiful hair, it is the most important, I agree it is not perfect, it is not worse than the hairdresser...
i like using a razor (not like a shaving one an actual haircutting one lol) for cutting the ends of the hair when doing layers because it texturizes the hair better and blends it so you don't have to angle the scissors like that :) also cutting vertically with the scissors pointing up at the ends will also help blend it better (: im sure there is videos about it but yeah i think you would like that!(:
I think hair is better to cut dry because hair can look and lay a lot different when it's wet. My hair is curly when it's wet and I wear it straight so my ends could be uneven.
YT recommended this to me when U was thinking of getting a haircut 😂 Who else is watching this OG video in 2022. This is gold 😍 Carli is and will always be the queen 😍
Omg I was cringing! But girl it looks awesome! I freak out when I watch haircuts, just because so many hair dressers have screwed up my hair. So now my mom does it and she knows what I like and gets it done right. Thanks momma!
I'm sorry but I cringed while watching this video, it looks so choppy. I understand about not trusting these stylists tho. Some of them have ruined my hair many times.
It is not choppy. She simply chose to keep blunt ends. The whispy ones just reduce the volume of the hair and look good on people with lots of hair, but not so good on those who generally have their hair laying flat. You obviously haven't seen what choppy looks like. She did a better job than lots of professional jobs I've seen around and she's obviously happy with the result.
***** the layers are choppy but it looks really good in my opinion. Each layer she cut was thick and gives volume to her hair. Which I understand bc having keratin in your hair makes it all flat.
***** People needs to find one stylist and stick with them... I know its difficult to find that perfect one. Thank goodness I found one. I can walk in and just tell her to do whatever she wants with my hair. I have total confidence and trust in her.
I have purchased many different Hair Extensions with Zala Hair Extensions, and they are always beautiful, thick and easy to wear, I keep coming back again and again. The volumizer is great for that added X-factor, very discreet. Love it!!!
love how you butchered your hair and it looks awesome, we all can not pull that one off, but lucky you. i have super long hair and i wont let no one cut it, i do myself. Thanks for sharing.
All I'm seeing is "as a cosmetologist" this and "as a licensed pro" that. Can y'all just shut up? The title made it very clear what the video was going to be about so why click on it just to leave your unnecessary opinions? She clearly stated she doesn't trust anyone with her hair so why keep saying to go to a professional? I'm licensed too but that doesn't mean I'm going to force my opinion down someone's throat. At the end of the day it's her hair, let her be.
Y'all's is unnecessary. Y'all are saying you're cringing and begging her to go to a professional. I'm not forcing my license down her throat like you guys are. "Wow".
I really wanna do the keratin treatment but I'm too scared to do it lol I really love my curly hair but sometimes I cry of frustration when I want it straight. I'm the only person I know that hate blow drying I can't do it and I never will its annoying and I sweat whenever I do it.
I'm just not sure where to ask and get it done and at home care. The salon I went to my whole life never explained anything to me I had to figure myself I want my frizzness to go away
Do research on the salons around you girl . It's hard finding trustworthy people . What state are you in? Don't do at home . Especially for keratin. Get it done right and they have to fix it if they mess up . Also , the keratin does weigh down the curls ALOT! So if you like your curls maybe keratin isn't the best choice . I did mines because I always have my hair straight. My curls are barely there, but I'm ok with that . There are sprays that cut blow dry time in half and you don't need a treatment . There's one from GK keratin and it's amazing! You should look into it
AshleyrCoello I live in new York maybe I can look into the spray that's really awesome you mentioned it thank you :). I just learned to love my curls but I cant stand it when its frizzy and I wanna look cute lol my sister hand the treatment done so long ago and they never told her what to wash it with at home. I have major trust issues with my hair
Okay so I cut my hair using her tutorial and I swear guys IT LOOKS SO GREAT!!!! And get fun with it too! My hair wasn't as long as hers but the steps still work out, just keep in mind the differences in length :)
Great advice. So easy to follow. I have fine dreadlocks too, and my hair looks amazing!! Thank you for the advice to take off a little at a time. And leaving the thick bottom layer was essential. Thanks so much Carli for helping us ladies who are leery of stylists cutting off too much tak power into our own hands!!!
I followed your method and my hair turned out to be so much better than before...Thanks for this method and to say this is the first time I've ever cut my hair by myself!!!
I had ruined my hair through cutting it myself originally so I let it grow for a while, I watched this tutorial and thought "I need to cut my hair" WOW! My hair has never had so much bounce and volume and it's also a lot stronger, people have asked me where I got it done and when I told them about this video they were so shocked, I absolutely love Carli and all her videos, thank you so much for helping me save my hair! Xo
Wait.... I legit thought that pink towel was a Cape that you can get from Barneys New York , lol she makes everything look like a million bucks. Xoxoxox
I love this video! if i were a hairdresser, i would be mad too. I wouldn't want everyone to learn to cut their own hair either. This has been my hair cut/style for the last 10 yrs, and i had been looking for a good tutorial, because like you, Ive always had a bad haircut. I will not pay $20+ for a trim..I love my length! . thanks for the video!! oh, and its just hair! it grows back!
Me too ! My mom does hair and she's done my hair my entire life and she just moved upstate and I'm desperate. She recommended someone to me and thank god she's good. It's hard finding people that know what they're doing
im curious to know how your hair looks after the shower with keratin, like without styling it? so i know if i shld do keratin or not. idw to do it and have to still use heat.
My hair was pretty curly and frizzy and I got a keratin treatment in January and for the first 3 months I would say I didn't use any heat or products. My hair out the shower would dry fairly straight and completely frizz free, it would even take less drying time. now it's getting the curls and frizz back and I need to have it redone but in my opinion it was completely worth it. I was amazed by what it did to my hair because I would never be able to let it air dry. I would have to either use gel or heat to get it manageable.
Farah ak i personally dont recommend doing the keratin treatment, I use to get it done for years and I have tried different brands of keratin and different stylists. Some stylists have a crappy and lazy technique when it comes to applying the keratin treatment so be familiar with the process if you decide to get it done. It was worth it the first handful of times I got it done but I can say from experience overtime it thins out your hair in the long run! I have been keratin free for 1 year and a few months and I have crazy curly hair. My hair is finally back to being thick and growing at a normal rate.
really? I feel like it made my hair stronger. lol my hair wouldn't break as easily. I've only done it once though so maybe with constant use it will eventually wear the hair out
yeah i was getting it done for maybe 3-4 yrs every 3-4 mths and in the long run my hair was just thinning out. I naturally have pretty thick hair but with fine/fragile strands. The process and the intense heat from the blower AND straightner throughout the process is what damaged my hair. I'm not gonna lie the first 2 yrs my hair was on point but unfortunately its not worth it in the long run!
its so funny how the women who cut their own hair get the most beautiful results. you have to know what you're doing to some degree but there's no one i know who is more complimented on her hair than my mother. People stop her at Walmart and everywhere else she goes JUST to tell her how beautiful her hair is and ask where she got it done. Every time she says i do it myself and no im not a hairdresser. I havent been to a hairdresser in my life just because of my friends experiences and the fact that my mom would always cut my hair. You always see hairdressers with short blue or purple fried hair and its honestly horrible. Just like any other profession you should look like you actually know what youre doing. be presentable. if i walked into a salon and saw Carli in there with that beautiful hair id make a mad dash right for her. Get over yourselves, hair dressers. She nicely stated that you should just keep your opinions to yourselves because her and her gorgeous hair do not give a shit.

+Rita Faustino I agree
All I can is, even if she isn't technical in the way she does it, if it looks this awesome and SHE is happy, then who cares? Awesome for her!
I agree
I completely agree with your comment!! :)
*Just got the Argan Rain product and i love it! Makes my hair feel soft and looks great! Recommend to all!*
Sara Sara Nora can i knouw were you had it from andere wants the of it
If the right way to cut our hair is the one that all of the hairdresses do (the ones that I've met), then I prefer having my hair cut by this girl because her result once is better than all the times I've had my hair cut by "professionals"
Thank you good evening.
Lmaooo there are about 900 "hair stylists" in the comments right now lmao all giving "advice" 😂😂 clearly this is how SHE likes it since SHE has been doing this for yearrrrrs!
How she does*
Not how we supposed to do ^^
Ikr! I don't understand how people were cringing? What's there to cringe about? Those who like to go to a professional, go right ahead but this is how she likes to do it, it's her hair, her choice, get over it
She's showing how SHE cuts HER hair. Clearly says it on the title and she also reassures everyone that this is just HER method of doing it.
lmaoooo she deleted her comment because she found out she was wrong
I've been cutting layers in my hair since you uploaded your first video about this!! It saves me so much money and I always get compliments! Thanks Carli:)
SweetEmelyne's YAY :) SO happy to hear my love
My sister and I do too! Hahaha. We followed your old video years ago and that's how we cut our hair since.
Me too! Since the first video she put up! I haven't gone to the hair dressers in ages! I don't ever feel like I need to even when I move home :) Thanks Carli!
What kind of scissors do you use?
nice1
Do it it's AMAZING
your hair is actually perfection I swear I could see my reflection in it
I love ur energy 😌✨
😂😂👏🏻
Wow ..the way you worded that..I had an 80s vibe love song in my head..😁👌👌👌 Works better if you leave out the "in it" at the end..❤️
Jeon Shine omg...lmfao careful we might get put up to the firing squad for even mentioning we're in the same fandom around here.
I cut my hair today following you and I love it!!!!!! No more money in hair salons ! Thank you so much!😄
I tried your technique like 4 months ago and really loved how it came out!
I love your technique and it's the only way I ever have my hair cut the way I want! xx
I will never cut my own hair because I can barely cut a straight line on paper but I love Carli so I watch anyways!!!
Lmao this is me ! I I can swear everything is straight and perfect and it's really not! Me and wall frames are not friends lol
Carmen H same as u with the line hahahaahhaha
Yes ladies! It's okay though I bet we can do our makeup pretty well though especially since we do not need scissors!
Even me. But Carli Bybel did a great job👍
Same 🤣😭
I have done the Park ave $500 hair cuts and the $30 haircuts....and I cut my own hair once since i was so sick and tired of getting lousy hair cuts....and i LOVED it!!! and people loved it.
No hairdresser knows how your hair drapes better than you do!!!
I actually tried your method.. & yes the outcome is just perfect..
my friends think.. its a professional cut.. 💋
OMG you literally posted this at the perfect time. I'm competing at Miss World America this weekend and I always cut my own hair but I've been dying to watch how you do your layers. I'm about to hop in the shower and do it right now and it's just so ironic that you posted this lol!
Good luck with your competition :)
Thank you so much!
April Maroshick wish you good luck from albania xoxo
You are so pretty :-) All the best in the competition.
Hey new subbie, You are gorgeous ♡
Good luck
Lol
True, but everyone makes mistakes and you have to learn from them. Just some stylists think they're perfect and can do no wrong. Lol.
Exactly! And I feel like everyone should be this way. It saves so much headache in the long run.
missmentalavenged I feel it should be the other way around.
You're right!
Abby Bee
LOL, Well, if that's wrong, I don't wanna be right!
Abby Bee well if she's teaching people how to do it in a way that would look great on her but odd on someone else that's not good. She cuts her hair in a way that will make it longer in the front and shorter in the back.
Oh my god halfway through I was thinking you butchered those layers, but the end result is amazing! Kind of want to try this now.
"DIY open heart surgery" OMG DEAD 😂😂
We have ppl living on the streets in the USA too, unfortunately... What does that have yo do with a hair tutorial??? Wtf??? Calm down! Geez! Haha!
how about you caring about the country you live in. USA! Tons of people right here living on the street but people care about "underdeveloped" countries. If you care so much for them, then MOVE THERE and help them out. Ahhh, but no right?? Not you! Let someone else, right? Your a Moron.
Marybeth Bavero I'm not sure who you are referring to here?
mojoblue70 I'm perfectly calm thank you. I'm just pointing out how ridiculous the negative and bitchy comments are. Some people here have been AWFUL to this girl - over a haircut . . I mean please! Get some perspective!
You make it look so effortless! If I did this it would look like a hack job!! You are such a stunner honestly get so excited when you upload xoxo
Yeah, I can never get my hair to grow because of getting a trim and the hairdresser butchers me.
It's such a violation. A hairdresser did that to me too once. That was 6 years ago and I've been cutting my own hair ever since
Gabriella Kovács i mean... not all hairstylists* are like that. I’ve never got any complaints ever that I have cut it too short. Some hairstylists are just scissor happy.
Same. I had really long hair and wanted a trim and some extra long layers adding. I ended up with a Bob cut that ended at my ears. 😭 I do my own hair now.
Gabriella Kovács YES. I wanted a 1 inch trim and the hairdresser cut 4-5 inches. I never went back.
LOL this is why people don't go to salons anymore. Hairdressers always feel like their way is better, even tho it's not THEIR hair! ugh! shoo shoo
I'm a hair dresser and I don't think my way is better, yes she's not professional but she likes it
I agree somewhat.
+AJ Reyes OMG I know right! I've been doing my own hair for years and years
+Lia Vaultboy go away
. know one cares about your job .
Nice to see all the positive comments. Whatever technique gets you the results you want is what you are after. Good for her!
This cut is perfect! I've grown out my bangs from high school and when they got to chin length they started to look really heavy and flat. I've been trying forever to blend them with my hair. I almost caved and cut them shorter again but this was a perfect way to blend them in and give my hair a more effortless look. Thanks!
Am i the only one that thinks that the sounds and watching hair being cut off is satisfying? Lol i know it's weird
there is actually a name for that satisfying feeling of sounds. it is called asmr you should check out some asmr videos on TH-cam. :) asmr
Only if it's someone else's hair... ;)
It gives me anxiety, if the hair’s mine of course
I want to......but I'm scared. lol
Molly Kinslow just be conservative with it! Only take off like MAYBE a quarter of an inch at first to see if you can, and thats such a short amount that it'll get any split ends off but won't really affect the length. Good luck!
hair dr
Carly Nunez same
Very true...
You are the best youtuber out there. Love from Germany
antonialisamarlen LOVE YOU BOO!
Please notice she is using good scissors people
I have cut my hair a few times with regular scissors and have had no problem
I wish she would do a hair tutorial on her hair in the end
when you look like that it doesn't matter wtf your hair looks like after you chop it.
This girls hair is beautiful! Makes me want to be brunette again! So long, thick, & shiny..
True 😭
I cut my own hair all the time. I also color my own hair. Alot is trial and error and a bit of common since. I love Carli's hair. It's beautiful!
I can only imagine how nice it is to have such a lovely mane. So pretty!
As a hairstylist of 17 years I have no problem with this vid. When people mess up their hair doing this, the more appreciation for the hours of experience and education for what we do.
I recommend texturizing shears it will help you blend more based on your technique I observed ! Happy Cutting & Love your Hair ☺️
as a stylist i just want to go in and cross check everything lol
Lmfao yes!
lol same. idk how anyone could do this
Lol me too
Me too! I died a little inside when I saw all the blunt lines
D Serrano we just wanna "cross check" of course it's about her preference it's her hair. If people want to try her technique go for it. Her hair looks beautiful all the time.
Crazy technique but results are amazing!!
I first tried your technique 6 months ago and guess what? It was my best haircut ever! Then I did it again after watching your video as a refresher and Perfect yet again! I officially have long hair, thanks Carli :)
It's your hair and it suits you, I think it helps coz you have a lot of it ! But it's not blended well when it's straight
i dont think this person would look bad if she was bald.
it looked great. gorgeous hair
She would.
I desperately needed a haircut a couple weeks ago, right around the time that everything shut down for coronovirus. Decided to try cutting my own hair at home and it turned out great! Thanks, Carli!
how did you style your hair?!
Yessss i want to know also
***** She just used a curling iron and curled all the layered pieces under :)
She's made a video on it before but I know she usually blow dries it with a round brush and then curls or (:
Your hair is so healthy looking loved the cut its stunning xx
Cathy Duffy thank you love!
I am grateful beyond measure for this video, use it every time I cut my long hair, always looks great.
Hi Carli, I followed your instructions: Absolutely happy with the result!! Thank you!
Hairdressers say that she is doing wrong, because if everyone cut their hair themselves they are afraid of not having to work. She has beautiful hair, it is the most important, I agree it is not perfect, it is not worse than the hairdresser...
you are much better than most of the professionals, loved it!
Your hair is literally GOALS!
i like using a razor (not like a shaving one an actual haircutting one lol) for cutting the ends of the hair when doing layers because it texturizes the hair better and blends it so you don't have to angle the scissors like that :) also cutting vertically with the scissors pointing up at the ends will also help blend it better (: im sure there is videos about it but yeah i think you would like that!(:
You can do that with scissors too just open them up and wala. My mom does it all the time :)
yeah that works too!(:
5 MILLION AND GROWING!!YOU GO GIRL!! COLAB WITH SOME BROWN GIRLS PLEASE!!
How does it look when you flat iron it? You should cut it wet so it's easier to cut and invest in a nice pair of shears since you cut it yourself.
I think hair is better to cut dry because hair can look and lay a lot different when it's wet. My hair is curly when it's wet and I wear it straight so my ends could be uneven.
She said she likes to cut her hair dry. You have to do what works for you!
Dang you're such a hater just let her be.. I see you commenting on others comments , just chill it's her life I bet you ain't no pro your self .
also, cutting it wet will reduce any split ends caused by cutting hair dry!
One time i cut my bangs while they were wet and after they dried i looked like betty paige
this is actually one of the most understandable videos ive seen.
agree

YT recommended this to me when U was thinking of getting a haircut 😂 Who else is watching this OG video in 2022. This is gold 😍 Carli is and will always be the queen 😍
The hair dressers always mess up my hair so I'm definitely going to be trying this
it doesn't look that great when it straight it looks nice only when its curled...
Omg I was cringing! But girl it looks awesome! I freak out when I watch haircuts, just because so many hair dressers have screwed up my hair. So now my mom does it and she knows what I like and gets it done right. Thanks momma!
Hi Carli, how do you manage to make your hair look so shiny / glossy? What products do you use? :-)
I'm sorry but I cringed while watching this video, it looks so choppy. I understand about not trusting these stylists tho. Some of them have ruined my hair many times.
Look at her hair tho obviously cutting her own hair is working for her!
***** Who cares!
Your telling us not to give our opinions and yet u just stated your opinion....?? Wow.
Y'all's is unnecessary. Y'all are saying you're cringing and begging her to go to a professional. I'm not forcing my license down her throat like you guys are. "Wow".
I used some of your techniques and now my fine hair looks thicker and better! THANKYOU Carli! I'm never going to a hairdresser again :)
your hair is so beautiful, it looked gorgeous before the haircut 😢
Lolz that's funny cause I cry of frustration cause my hair is so straight
MaryamYum88 YES!! Omg I straighten it and in this heat it gets frizzy super quick 😞
Okay so I cut my hair using her tutorial and I swear guys IT LOOKS SO GREAT!!!! And get fun with it too! My hair wasn't as long as hers but the steps still work out, just keep in mind the differences in length :)
Rewatching in 2019 cuz your recent video was so satisfying 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️
Rubys Journey same though!!!
😮😅t
You are so pretty Carly... and such and inspiration.... I have seen your videos for years now.... love from ecuador
Woooooo Ecuador!!!!!
Can't wait till my hair is your length 😭🙌🏼
Me too
My hair is longer than down to my butt ahahahah
I had ruined my hair through cutting it myself originally so I let it grow for a while, I watched this tutorial and thought "I need to cut my hair" WOW! My hair has never had so much bounce and volume and it's also a lot stronger, people have asked me where I got it done and when I told them about this video they were so shocked, I absolutely love Carli and all her videos, thank you so much for helping me save my hair! Xo
It's so shiny and beautiful!!!!!!
MiniMeeshie thanks girly!!! XOXO
Wait.... I legit thought that pink towel was a Cape that you can get from Barneys New York , lol she makes everything look like a million bucks. Xoxoxox
sanders kennedy You so cuuuuute :)
IM SCARED TO HAVE ANY PERSON WHOS NOT PROFESSIONAL IN CUTTING HAIR TO CUT MINE LOL
HowToKim Carli you are so pretty!!!
Me too ! My mom does hair and she's done my hair my entire life and she just moved upstate and I'm desperate. She recommended someone to me and thank god she's good. It's hard finding people that know what they're doing
HowToKim Did you literally just reply to your own comment and tell yourself you're pretty?
Laughy Sapphy no i said "Carli, your so pretty"
HowToKim
Ohhhh okay that makes much more sense
Watching this gave me so much anxiety😬
im curious to know how your hair looks after the shower with keratin, like without styling it? so i know if i shld do keratin or not. idw to do it and have to still use heat.
That's definitely something to think about now that you've mentioned it. Thanks!
your hair is so gorgeous
your hair cutting videos made me give myself a makeover at 2 am :D but i LOVEE how it came outt!! best hair cut tutorial ever
its so funny how the women who cut their own hair get the most beautiful results. you have to know what you're doing to some degree but there's no one i know who is more complimented on her hair than my mother.
