arrived, “there was no organized human
society in Singapore, unless a fishing village can be called a society”. Singapore politicians had the spines to accept that history is too complex unlike how Indian politicians blame their problems towards Britishers and that's the reason why they are 100 times more successful than us. Or do we remember the one's that aligned to demand a separate nation never ever participating in the freedom struggle?
We don't relate to those things, because those set of people were trying their best to survive, if they cared about masses they wouldn't have help in the exploitation at all, this has always been our problem, we see things on the basis of individual interest.
How many British even know about the colonial past of the empire? Yet here you are trying to defend what good was done by them!
They were not completely living out of India were they? So naturally they would do things to improve the place they were living in, the intention was not the general good but their personal gains.

How come when you guys interview countries like Japan, Korea, and China, the interviews are done in their native languages and then subtitled, but not in India? I think they would be able to better express their opinions in their own language (not that their English isn't good but I still think it's easier to communicate in your native language).
Edit: A lot of people in the replies clearly lack basic comprehension skills...
Yes, there are hundreds of languages in India, but these interviews are mostly done in Mumbai, so why not use Hindi or Marathi? If it's in another region then just get a host from that region (which Asian Boss did with the North-east).
Yes, many people in India speak English if you think 10% of the whole population is a lot. English is known mostly by wealthier people, and when the interviews are conducted in English you are excluding 90% of the population from participating.
Btw for those saying that I'm only saying all this because of their Indian accent, you should stop making baseless claims because I myself am an Indian from Pune, Maharashtra and I have no trouble understanding people with an Indian accent.

@thezoldics7648The reason why India is still poor is because they are still blaming Britishers for their own post-colonial failure. If Britishers are the reason why many countries are poorer then why non colonized countries like Nepal, Bhutan, Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Liberia etc. are poorer than India? Why many colonized countries like America, Canada, Australia, New Zealand are one of the richest countries in the world. India had 23% of world's GDP in 1750s only because it had 25% of world's population at that period. Countries like Britain, Netherland had 3 times the per capita of India even at that time. Looking at the per-capita, India was one of the poorest countries in the world even in 1750s. Most of the east Asian countries, Middle eastern countries, European countries had more per-capita than India in 18th century. Saying India was one of the richest countries in 17th century just because it had large share of GDP in the world is like saying at present India is richer than UK because India had more GDP than UK. We have to look at per-capita income to find which country is richer and which is not. Countries like Singapore, Hong Kong had accepted British colonization brought more positives than negatives to them. Singapore’s first prime minister, Lee Kuan Yew, said that before the British arrived, “there was no organized human society in Singapore, unless a fishing village can be called a society”. Countries like Singapore are richer than India now because they had honest politicians like Lee Kuan Yew who don't unnecessarily blame Britishers and had the courage to accept the fact that colonialism brought more positives than negatives to them unlike Indian politicians.

@@multiverse6989 Yeah, could be an escape goat. Nobody wants you to care about the UK. But it does seem Indians are far far to invested in western media. Ex cOlonial powers don't want to compete for power anymore. Most western nations just want to maintain a norm and preserve. I dont think they are narrow minded. They speak the truth, they obviously know the history. BUt its just not really worth mentioning and playing the victim. Do you think the French moan about Nazi Germany? No , they moved on. The British about the multiple colonisers of their country ? No.
Their answers aren't bad answers, they were not asked about opinions from almost 100 years ago, nor were they asked to base their opinions on the past; but the opinion of the country TODAY, in 2022. The UK has tried hard to do what's right and tried hard to lead by example and one way or another countries will continue to learn from one another, learn lessons from it's infrastructure, human rights, moral standings, education, culture and dealing with racism. Time to look in the mirror and be more self critical. No other country says anything worse about the UK than people who actually live in the UK.
The UK also has alot to learn from all over the world too.
The Germans across europe are known for their organisation, engineering and sausages and beer. Not for killing millions of Jews and other races all over the world.
Ironically, the UK does care about India, it still sends millions in aid to india. It really ios a shame that the great power the geographical area of India was were not able to push out colonisers way back then, a truely massive shame. All of this probably wouldnt have happened. I wonder if India has ever traced down the Indian people who most likely profited off the colonisers and sold their own people for their own greed. The same goes for the guys who sold their own people in the slave trade.
Let's how the Muslim population in India gets enough support like they do in the UK. Nationalism is a double edged sword. From my experience the most nationalistic countries tend to be the most racist.

What baffles me is that Muslim invaders from abroad ruled India for 800 years before the British came. And much of the Muslim invasion was much more brutal (for example it was common practice for the Muslim Emperors to destroy temples, and behead thousands of people in one go - something the British never did). Despite this, the Indians mostly only keep talking about the British colonialism, but not about the Muslim invasion which was for a much longer period of 800 years, and much more brutal.
What is also a fact of history is that if the British had not come in the 18th century, the Muslim Rulers would have continued to rule India perhaps for another thousand years! Almost all the main kings, princes, and rulers in India prior to the British arriving were Muslims (with a few exceptions like the Maratha Kings, etc.). All power in India in the 18th century was concentrated in the hands of the Muslims (who were treated as the First Class citizens by the Mughals), and the Hindus were mostly out of power and treated as second-class citizens by the Muslim rulers. There was also very large scale conversion of Hindus, which was forcibly imposed by the Mughal rulers until the British arrived. So, if the British had not come at the time, most probably India would have been fully transformed into a Muslim country by now, and there would have been no difference between Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh. It was only because the British came and colonized India that the Hindu culture was saved, which then resulted in the forming of the future India. This is something many Indians don't seem to fully understand.

@@rajeevjuneja5584 In 1750, India had 23% of the world's GDP because it had 25% of the world's population. However, Britain was already a wealthy country even before it colonized India. If we look at the per-capita income of India and Britain in the 1750s, Britain's per-capita income was three times that of India, and India's per-capita income had been declining for a century before Britain won the Battle of Plassey. Comparing the total GDP of India and Britain in the 1750s to argue that India was richer than Britain is like saying that Uttar Pradesh is richer than Goa today. Later, the Industrial Revolution occurred in the Western world after the Scientific Revolution, with the invention of machines and technologies like the steam engine, and their wealth increased exponentially. Meanwhile, India's global share of GDP dropped to 4% in 1950. The same thing happened in China, which was not directly colonized. In fact, China's per-capita income was even lower than India's at the time of independence. During the 1750s, China's per-capita income was higher than India's. Therefore, if we say that Asian countries are poorer because of colonization, then what happened to countries like Nepal, Bhutan, Ethiopia, and Liberia, which were not colonized? It's worth noting that Nepal has a similar history and culture to India, yet it is the poorest country in Asia. The fact that Nepal was not colonized by the British undermines the argument that colonization is solely responsible for a country's level of poverty.

We are not prisoners of the past. I'm European and of course I find it very understandable that people in India will never forget the dark age of colonialism. It's important to talk about these issues. But we also have to address common challenges connected to the future. The EU (and several non EU European countries) and India share a strong tradition of democracy. In many areas (most) Europeans and (most) Indians think alike and have common interests as well as goals. Therefore, we should cooperate even more and even closer than we do today. Many countries do not believe in values like freedom, democracy and the rule of law. It is of vital and strategic importance that the democratic countries of the world stand united against aggressive dictatorships. We can not rewrite history, but we can make the right decisions today for the future of our children. Love from Sweden to India!

Seriously, these are the generation who refer history as if it is a rumor and they should refrain from it. Do they know what is 40 trillion dollar's worth, than was once India's treasury. They say they are not bad. They killed 50% of population of India during their rule, this is just a past for you that doesn't even bother you. They say those are past and we should not even have an idea. Women☕ I had to say this man.

    • @jeanettewee8805
      @jeanettewee8805 ปีที่แล้ว

The $45 trillion figure is a mathematical construction, not something that actually happened. It's a speculative projection, not what occurred in the real world. $45 trillion was never transferred from India, Utsa Patnaik herself estimates the actual figure as about £1 billion pounds in total, the rest is manufactured from compound interest rates up to the year 2016. Niall Ferguson has said that for the period 1868 to 1930 the transfer was about 1 percent of Indian net domestic produce a year. This is close to the 0.5% from economist K.N. Chaudhuri quoted in the article above. It should be obvious that a calculation at a 5% compound interest rate to the year 2016 and beyond should not be represented as the “drain” on the Indian economy 1765-1938. Shame on those who understand this and yet knowingly spread it on the internet, they clearly have some kind of agenda. It's misinforming the public, and a gross distortion of the truth.

9:37 this mindset and level of pride is something I think many are missing in the US. I come from an immigrant family, and am a combination of second and third generation, and I will never stop respecting the mindset of many immigrants. Of the immigrants I grew up around, most were Indian, Vietnamese, Korean, and broadly West African. I have to say with sincerity and great admiration that these were some of the smartest, highest achieving, and industrious people I’ve come to know, and they have my utmost respect. They remind me of what it is to be American. It’s sad to say that many of my own countrymen would call me a racist, bigot, or even nazi (I’ve been called all three) for being proud to be American, but it’s these people that come here from other places and make better lives for themselves that my pride comes from. There’s something about India, and much of Asia in general, that’s so quintessentially American; and if I had to boil it down to one thing, it’s the knack to achieve more than the average, and be better than your peers. This competitiveness should drive everyone to be their best, but sadly, it’s turned us into a society that feels we deserve everything for nothing. Much respect to my Indian brothers and sisters. Keep working hard and pushing the line. From a nobody American, I really see a future where India overtakes a superpower like China in the global stage.

Even if kohinoor is with them, they can't flaunt or even sell it to develop their nation as it is not theirs or they simply can't for whatever reason. Today's brits are good. In any colonized places, the colonizer brings infrastructure, education, health, governing systems to that place not just because they want to do good for that place. Other reasons are they want to be living in similar environment, they want to do some projects to show to superiors (of course some money kickbacks along the way), they want rules to control the citizens so the colonizer can live more peacefully.

I am Indian, and my thoughts on Britain : Thousands of people were killed in Amritsar's Jaliyawala Bagh. Then-Conservative leader Winston Churchill massacred millions of people in West Bengal. Thousands of people were enslaved and transported to British colonies to serve white men. Several industries were destroyed by the imposed trade tariffs. Raw materials were taken out of here, and final goods were manufactured in their country, and by selling these goods, the British made a good profit. When India was being destroyed by Britain, the Industrial Revolution happened in their country. People became poorer by the day, and as a result of this poverty and inequality in society, many social evils occurred at the time and became social norms. Whatever infrastructure was built at the time, such as railroads and institutions, served Britain's agenda, so it's not a favour for us. Brown people were prohibited from entering those trains, especially in first class. The majority of trains were used as transportation of goods, supplying row material from mainland India to coastal areas, and via ship, they were sent to Britain.
Whatever these guys said in the video, it's not their fault because these people existed at that time also and served the agenda of white people. So I have no sympathy for brown collies.
