      @@BTheInstaller Tell your son he is right about the A90J remote compared to the A80J, thats why I bought a Sony backlit remote separately for my A80J! However the backlit remote definitely drains the AAA batteries fast - just got a low battery notification today after only 3 weeks with the alkalines. My other non-backlit Sony remote on my X950H in comparison still has nearly full level after 3 months! Going to use rechargeable AAAs now!

    I know Sony has alot to fix and work on with gaming features that's just facts, but to be honest their picture quality in movies and content is pretty damn impressive. I am not trying to give them a free pass, but I have the X900H and in terms of HDR and Dolby Vision that tv gets pretty close to OLED sometimes.

Dolby vision is automatic when I watch that content through disc or streaming. I have my ps5, Sony 4K player, Apple TV 4K and bell Fibe all connected through my Denon 4700 Amp and from the amp to the tv I have it connected to the E-ARC port.

    The only setting I do differently is the Smooth Gradation - most recommend the "low" setting since higher than that can soften the image a bit. I've lately been using "off" and haven't seen any banding even in old movies like some of the Disney+ movies from the 50s and 60s in HD like Davy Crockett. I've played a lot with the Reality Creation setting - I'm getting good results for sharpening non-4K video at a higher manual setting up to 40-50. For 4K videos, off or auto works well.

  • @pb24dagrk

    The cinemotion is specifically for streaming devices and cable broadcast. If you have AppleTV with the match frame rate enabled or watch from a Blu-ray player with 24p output, then you can disable it. Other streaming devices keep the 24hz content embedded in a 60hz signal. This mismatch will create judder since 24 is not evenly divided into 60. The cinemotion setting will correctly detect this and apply the proper 3:2 pull down and display each frame correctly. The High/Med/Low simply is how aggressively it looks for it. Generally it’s safe to keep on High.
    Cable has similar issues as described above, but also lots of content is shown as 1080i (interlaced) which is essentially 540p alternating per each refresh. Basically you need cinemotion if you’re streaming or watching cable. It has zero effect if you’re watching NATIVE 24p content so it’s safe to always keep it on.

    • @donb7574
      @donb7574 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct - the cinemotion function is for 60fps video input from internal apps and TV tuner and for external devices that can't output in 24fps directly. If enabled, it will try to extract the original 24fps from a 60fps video that uses 3:2 pulldown.

      I have an A80J (same settings as A90J) in my main dark media room but I also have a Sony X950H in my bright family room. Many of the settings are the same between them, there are a couple that are in the X950H only (for its backlit dimming feature which the OLED doesn't need) and the OLED has a few unique settings too like Panel Brightness. Also the A80J/A90J for 2021 improved the cinemotion settings for off, low, and high. The 2020 X950H model cinemotion setting only has off and auto(which is like high).

    • @donb7574
      @donb7574 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are a few settings I like different between SDR and HDR, so you can setup two of the program modes (like one with Custom and another with Cinema) with those differences. So just switch between those PMs for SDR vs HDR when needed. Dolby Vision fortunately auto switches to a DV program mode, so that one is already separately setup. There is a way to add a couple more custom program modes too, then you could have 3+ PMs for different settings like for non-4K, SDR 4K, HDR 4K, etc.

    • @shaneboaden5005
      @shaneboaden5005 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

  • @donb7574

    Your settings for dolby vision are definitely the brightest setting possible - Dolby Vision Bright with Brightness Preferred. I don't need it that bright so I use DV Bright with tonemapping off. DV Bright appears to be like DV Dark with Brightness Preferred on. I've found little difference between those with a bright outdoor scene, so it mostly affects darker indoor scenes in DV movies/shows.

    Hey b you should of heard ninjician tonight sticking up for sony saying he's tried of hearing this vrr talk and that the sony tvs game great. He was like if you sre on console vrr should be the last thing you think of because all vrr has issues not just sony. He is absolutely correct it's why we are supposed to be getting a new version of vrr hell even lg finally uodates its raised black issues with vrr a fee months back it had issues for over a year. All other companies like tcl and others have issues with local dimming and other things. Apl people have to do is search vrr issues it's vre I'm general. But he Gave sony alot of credit tonight after seeing one he claibrated for fomo and them. Yesh he ws like it has the most lush image due to the color volume he was blown away yoy can tell. I couldn't believe it even with all thus over exaggerated stuff about gaming which I can't believe people are falling for. I'm surprised how many trolls fomo and them listen To. They go well people say this or that yeah who? Trolls on TH-cam trying to bash sony. I made a graya point why is nobody covering lg panel issues tons of people srs all over the internet talking about it nobody is covering it. Tons and tons of returns if it was sony it would be talked about asap. I'm sry but sony gaming is fantastic kg showed for months he prdffeeed sony and he couldn't feel a difference when gaming. He wa steeling people to get sony even for gaming as it was his favorite idk what happened the past few weeks it's like he got dormwed out so he just started bringing up features also. When in fact he said he didn't care about rhat stuff so who knows what happened. All I know is I'm happy niniician spoke up and said if you sre a console gamer you will love the sony and all of them tonight classy KG and ninician all talked about the a90j being so good classy and KG said it is the best tv this year hands down. What I want to know is why is a tv enthusiast community only talking about gaming? We have gaming monitors and those channels. Tvs are image quality and movies first then gaming second. We have gaming monitors centered around only gaming. The true av enthusiast the hundreds of thousands are leaving TH-cam to go to Facebook and forums due to nothing eeally being covered about tvs lol. Sony gives us the best image quality of any consumer TV said by all of the rpofessuonals and why sing content and movies and things like that being covered as much as gaming? Like I get views but I have been around for years and years and I remember channels with 200k subs and that was back when gaming wasn't talked about and thwy would even get upwards of 500k views from enthusiasts. Gaming has taken over the community but you ha ehundrrds of thousands of enthusiasts still out there. We need more true tv content. It shouldn't always be negatives it shouldn't always be oh this for gaming this for gaming like make videos about other stuff with tvs the headline is alway about gaming anymore. Not saying with you but with fomo and others it's getting ridcjous then all this stuff being blown out or proportion. The a80j and a90j aren't the 900h. The 900h can't even do 4k 120 without halfing resolution. The a80j and a90j can display full 4k 120 bevause it has the xr duagherboard working in conjunction with the mediatek soc if people believe it will be the same as the 900h they will be sadly mistaken. It's completely different lol. You know when ninician is saying he's tried of hearing about vrr and sony tvs asn he's sticking up for them that it's getting pretty bad then. Just saying we need more av content true av content that isn't gaming centered. At leastasome things came put we had a good healthy debate tonight which was great we all needed it tbh. Was surprised when classy said the ao0j is the best tv out. I've also been surprised as KG always talked about liking sony more and even gaming he liked sony more lol. Past few weeks he went along with the gamers and started with the feature thing. Was very airesied with how much he liked sony. But he did agree the a90j is the best tv. Ninjician really was impressed by the a90j alot which is nice.

I ran out of storage in the 1st week and that's just by adding the various apps like peacock, tubi etc. So do you have a way to allow the user to add external storage then add that so it's available to use for additional Internal Storage. As of now in Dolby Vision I prefer to leave HDR tone mapping to off. Whites in brightness preferred are too bright and killing my eyes at night. Otherwise I followed your recommandations. Anyone else thinking brightness preferred is too agressive? I could also leave it on and lower luminosity to 30 for instance.

    Hi there! great channel and so helpful. I have a question. I have a 77 oled A80J and i have noticed that when I switch to an Apple TV 4K 2nd gen that the image is slightly improved but the audio is very diminished from the TV speakers compared to listening from the TVs Google browser . I have the audio settings as Auto - Atmos available and HDMI - selected to TV Speakers. Could you please offer any hints to improve the audio via the Apple TV 4k to make it the same quality? many thanks

    Awesome video me I won't use dynamic contrast as it's plenty bright for me but I will use black adjust which is a specific setting meant to darken the blacks in the image now it can create some crush or miss a little shadow detail but the shadow detial is so good on the a90j its not a big deal to me it just adds tons of depth to the image probabaly my favorite setting on any tv love that about Sony they have settings that legit add even more depth on top lol

    Has anyone gotten the Bravia Core app to output Dolby Atmos or DTS over earc? I have an Anthem MRX1140 that is having trouble with those audio formats on all built-in apps. I have cec enabled on the TV and receiver with audio pass-through auto. Is this a limitation of the Android TV player codecs that are supported?

    • @donb7574
      @donb7574 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Bravia Core app doesn't support atmos at all, it only offers plain DTS audio that can even work over the optical port and plain Arc, doesn't need eARC which the hardware doesn't support for internal apps anyway. eARC is only supported for external HDMI devices that need it like a blu-ray player for the uncompressed advanced audio formats like Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD Master. Though if you plug the external device directly into the receiver they will work without eARC as well. On the Bravia Core app you also may have to manually select DTS audio under the audio options or else it may default to stereo.

    Motionflow vs cinemotion is a bit confusing to me. I know cinemotion is useful for extracting 24p from 60hz, but if you match frame rate exactly it can be left off. However the setting for cinemotion changes the way motionflow works. It seems like the frame interpolation functionality is activated only when cinemotion is enabled. Otherwise (with cinemotion off) some other smoothing algorithm is applied. I’m very sensitive to SEO but I can use motionflow at the highest setting without problems as long as I keep cinemotion off. With cinemotion enabled I can only go as high as 1 and even that’s pushing it.
    I’m quite happy with the motion using cinemotion = off and motionflow = max, but it would be very interesting with an in depth video that explains what’s happening here.
