  • Girls Alone (Social Experiment Documentary)
Boys Alone tested the common belief that a pack of boys left together in a house with no adult control for a long period of time will self-destruct - the theory couldn’t have been more right. This film applies the same house rules and observes what happens when ten 12 year old girls are left in a house alone for five days.

With this having been filmed in 2002, this year marks 20yrs. It would be interesting to get all these girls, now women of 30-31, together. I think it would be interesting to see them have a weekend together. Then follow that up with having each of them sit down and review the first documentary and share their thoughts and views. Sociologically speaking, it would be an interesting study to juxtapose the two time frames and see the similarities and differences in their characters and take a look into the causes of dramatic shifts.

If they would be embarrassed or lament their behaviors, if they would look back and see how they have changed, etc. But it would have to be that they spend the same amount of time together being filmed and then rewatch the original video so as not to influence them to change their behaviors intentionally. @@laurablair287 Well, too late. These guys are already 10....you cannot change a personality once they have reached that age! The parents have MADE their many mistakes in the past by bringing up their sons as violent, uncaring creatures and now they harvest what they have sown. Fortunately I know quite a few boys who were brought up differently and who are now 12 and are soft and caring and respectful and good-mannered - and they will make great friends, husbands and fathers. But these guys from the house: they will cause a lot of distruction, I'm absolutely sure of that.

That's weird tbh. you can tell that's how she expects to be treated. a lot of people pointed that out. A lot of women who were like Shelly pointed out how it was for them, and the expectation placed on you. I just watched the boys alone documentary before this one and it’s so interesting to see the differences between the two. The boys were more physical with each other when they got into fights and more destructive, making a bigger mess in the house while the girls got into a lot of arguments and were more emotional than the boys. I found it interesting how both the boys and the girls had “trouble makers” in the group, being Sade/Sharday in this one (obviously) and Michael in the boys documentary. I also found it very interesting how the girls talked about more inappropriate things than the boys, like suicide, rape, eating disorders etc. Also, there was more of a range in social and emotional maturity with the girls. (The boys seemed to be more or less at the same level with each other at least according to what I observed). Lastly, the boys hated each other and couldn’t wait to get out and go home by the end of the documentary it seemed like near the end they didn’t want much to do with each other and while the girls missed their parents (as you can see them making cards) and were happy to go home they “came together” despite all the drama and arguing that went on and put on plays and talent shows. I’m obviously not a psychologist or anything but these are just some things I observed and found interesting watching both of the documentaries lol. Also, sorry to spoil anything for the people who haven’t watched the boys documentary yet.

Sharday made herself the centre of attention in this documentary. You can't help but wonder what influence her family has had in creating such a demanding child. The others such as Georgie (?) the peacemaker was kind towards her but she and the others finally had their fill of Charday's manipulative ways. Sherry is obviously very bright, very sensitive, considerate of others and mature....but she is still a child. So she is out of sync with many of the others especially Sharday. Too bad she left but the emotional and over stimulating chaos proved to be too much for her. There are a few others who are resilient and can cope with it all but it is a stressful environment for them all.

A lot of these girls seem really sweet. Sherry was so lovely, as many of the other commenters have said. Charli too, she was adamant on helping the other girls, and she and Jess were really good at solving conflict. Jess, Justine and Nikki were sweethearts too. Poor kids.

This video made me so glad that I live with a considerable roommate who cooks, cleans, and offers to help and follows through with it. Couldn't have asked for a better first time. I've heard terror stories about having roommates, and I was afraid of it but needed the help to split the rent. I feel really lucky who I decided to bunk with.

I would clean the house, do all the cooking because they are horrible(except for Sharry(I think that's her name?)), I'd also do the vacuuming unless another girl can help me out with it, but I'd always clean the kitchen because i like to do it my way, then I would make rules for all the civil girls that want to have sleep at night to have one of the rooms so girls like Sade can't bother us, etc for whatever else that happens.

There was many things I was able to predict for the boys experiment thinking back to my own childhood. I expected their type of inappropriate remarks, most of which, I feel are said for the entertainment of saying something crass. I was shocked to hear a cute little girl bring up checking someone's wrists for cuts. That and other very dark, very adult subjects. Crazy and sad.

girls are more emotional, maybe that's why they talk about issues like suicide more often.
