Surely the parents were told to not overreact to the state of the house, no matter how bad it looked.
I think that’s because the violent little wraiths survived and there was minimal bloodshed.
Having watched both experiments (boys and girls) the take away I have is that whilst the girls were acting like they finally got the taste of freedom, doing things without the fear of being told to stop, the boys acted like they were desperately looking to push every limit to see if anyone would intervene. They were hoping someone would tell them to stop or what to do next. While the girls just wanted to experiment and be creative
I think it's more that both parties just wanted a release from being told what to do. Kinda why they elected a leader role in both sides. But both then got neglected really.

They didn't like sade and were much worse tbh, it seemed like they left because of her and she almost went home because of it. But the boys tried breaking windows and killing hedgehogs for no reason.

Felt really bad for Sim cleaning all those dishes alone and being talked about by the other boys in the beginning.

He was not doing cleaning in the beginning that made them turn against him, but he gained respect for cleaning all by himself. In the end you see that he just suffers and doesn't fight anymore even looks how the boys destroy everything
That was really sad. But i can image that it kind of helped him to get a short break from this household while doing the dishes so he did it slowly and steady.
Sim is a good boy. You can see he is raised to be respectful and to acquiesce to authority, It's also just not in his nature to be wild and reckless like most of the other spoilt boys.
Yes they should’ve split the work between all of them so it’s even, instead of leaving just one boy to do it, especially in that mess!
Oh my gosh, George was an absolute sweetheart towards Sim, even saying "I'm so sorry." when the others didn't leave them alone in the tent.
Don’t think he’s a sweetheart for that, what would’ve been nicer is if George talked to the other boys and make them understand what they’re doing is wrong and then they’d stop. Saying to Sim “I’m so sorry” is just empty and pathetic

Wow George looking after Sim is weirdly adorable, also his manners are immaculate. Instead of saying "buzz off Sims sleeping" he gave them a choice of freedom and said "do you have to?" Still allowing them to also do what they want. Also Michael was sweet too, staying on the walkie talkie even though he got kicked out of the tent 😆

This was the most horrifying documentary I've ever seen. Every psychology class ever should be made to watch both parts of this. One thing I'd like to point out is how the boys were congratulated by their parents, even though they had seen everything that was done, and the girls parents were just glad they were back and safe. Striking.

This comment... Gold. I believe exactly the same thing. Boys and girls are NOT raised the same way by many parents. Boys are not nurtured enough, while girls are in a way, overprotected. Many Boys lack boundaries because their parents fail to teach them properly about them. The parents did not scold the boys because in a way, being destructive is what a boy is expected to be. Utterly shocking.

The parents reactions are the same reactions some pet parents have with their puppies like "omg awe you dug a hole, youre not supposed to do that but so cute! good job!!" and is how they end up having behavioural issues in the future🙄 Itd be interesting to see them do another video together or how theyve turned out since growing up
Yes i was shocked too. Some of the parets really looked disappointed or shocked and there are the parents smiling "ow look at that how did you do it" i would go as far and say that was one of the loud kids parent.
Watch the series 7up it's similar as it follows several boy students every 7 years for the rest of their lives and it shows how they changed
The fact that they don’t like their own mess yet don’t bother to clean it up and then aren’t made to clean anything up in the end and their parents tell them “good job” is exactly why so many women end up with selfish man child husbands they have to divorce.

It was the small things that really made George stand out. How he stayed up till 11 so that Sim could sleep, and how when he was passed the first meal he decided to continue passing it down so that everyone else would get it before him.

robert and sherry were the most sensible ones and its interesting to see that the positive traits they have are seen as weak by the rest of the group, while also the worst behaved ones (michael and sade) got progressively shunned by the others, it seems you have to be somewhere in between to be accepted and thrive in a certain environment

I'm amazed that their behavior devolved in the presence of the cameraman...but I suppose the power the group dynamic is powerful. Also, its amazing how spot on Lord of the Flies got it. I would really like to see an interview of the same boys years later and how they remember this experience and maybe if there were lasting effects....
They really elected the right boy to be the leader. George was so kind to Sim when he knew he was feeling down, I would be really proud of him if he was my son.

I watched this after watching the girls alone video.
The only thing that would make the video better would be if we had the commentary of the parents as they watched their children, just for a bit of insight perhaps to why they think their children acted the way they did.

I’m surprised none of them chose to go home, and only one called their parents. I think the only way to enjoy staying there for 5 days was to be very loud and disruptive. For the quiet ones, it did not seem like a very nice experience

Man, I absolutely LOVE experiments like these. There's just so much primal instincts we can observe and study on human behavior, kinda like Nat Geo... except for the fact ANY adults being in the house to monitor makes this a curbed study or a daycare/school with a negligent caretaker/teacher. Sadly, this kind of thing will probably never be repeated either - at least not for as long as a 5 days (anything under a week is kinda meaningless though). Last I heard, the kids' parents regretted letting their BOYS do the experiment (the girls' experiment were fine).
They must've been embarrassed in their regrets 😬😮💨

The girls were actually impressive with everything they accomplished. The talent show, the assigning of chores, the way they regretted drawing on the walls and actually tried to clean them, I didn't expect them to thrive (and they didn't), but I'm surprised by how well they did, all things considered.
@@safe-keeper1042 i think the thing that messed them up was the one girl who was so nasty the whole time. She kept gossiping and bullying for attention, which influenced the other girls into being bad. When she wasn't in charge and without her the girls were lovely and comforted one another.

it was so sweet.
Just finished watching the girl's version and it was very interesting to see the differences. The girls actually showered, cooked and cleaned, but were also bent on never letting each other sleep. The boys were immediately set out on authority and pecking order while the girls had no desire to hold authority over each other, but loved to gossip and bring attention to themselves. The boys weren't intentionally callous or cruel but they never noticed or cared for long when they did, while the girls where consciously mean and cutting but were quick to comfort and apologize. Neither boys or girls held grudges for long, but boys did seem much less sympathetic to each other and wanting punishment while the girls kinda huddled after a fight. The girls= emotionally mean. The guys=physically aggressive. I was actually surprised it was the boys who ostracized one from the group and broke into factions against each other. Overall, girls would probably survive longer just on the basis of hygiene, food and not beating each other up x'D
It's also interesting how they treated the most troublesome child of their group. Girls being mean and cutting but still staying together with her in the end while boys tried to get the authority to make Michael calm down. Also dividing into grous vs. staying together. And girls being way more touchy with each other than boys. And boys being way more resilient to the bullying when some girls quit early for the same reason.

I watched the girl's beforehand and can I just say I'm impressed. Despite them being messy and chaotic, they actually bothered to clean and try to restore order on the FIRST day.

The problem is that the girls had an unruly older girl who distressed everyone while the boys had an unruly youngerboy which was easier to handle

There you see how the boys just suck up to the horrors and not take the step to move out. They just waiting for it to end. I felt so sad watching this. I hope the guys get some therapy dealing with the aftermath so the scars can heal. Great experiment, people need to see this.

Boys: everything destroyed, house trashed, eating mostly junk food, 2 groups at war with each other, and spilling out all of the board games all over the bedrooms.
They all stayed until the end.

@@thesleepyduck8368 Believe it or not, most boys that age don't have insanely developed emotional intelligence. Boys in my neighborhood used to use turtles as frisbees and didn't think anything was wrong until a few years later looking back on it.
watching both the boys and girls one reminded me a lot of my childhood. i grew up with all brothers but hung out with girls a lot too, kids can be so mean!

Ravenclaw2002 it obviously wasn't a stray or else it would have clawed out her eyes and wouldn't had let her hold it. Also she wasn't harming it and I have a feeling that the crew let the cat in on purpose.
Ravenclaw2002 The cat obviously was domesticated / friendly enough to have one of the little girls hold in for a long time without clawing her eyes out. It could easily have been one of the crew members cat or they could have seen the cat in the yard and led him in. I find it hard to believe a stray would be able to get into the house and want to with all the screaming girls.
You'd be surprised how many shows were crew members influence the cast. They do it all the time on reality TV.

This was very interesting (and entertaining) to watch, remembering what I was like at 11, how they seem to have endless energy, just being messy, yet charming in a way..... just being boys. I would have loved something like this as a kid - I hope they take something from this as they grow into men.
I do feel for Michael... he definitely has some problems, someone needs to work with him, get him some meds if needed, to help him. He was trying to fit in, but the other boys (being kids) couldn't have known what he really needed and it was sad to hear them talking about how they could get him kicked out.

Damn this is literally lord of the flies. George is Ralph, Michael is Jack, Sim is Piggy. They were chaotic at first, then started to focus on “survival” after a little bit until things just spiral into chaos. They split into 2 groups and some end up “betraying”

Interesting, I'd say that Michael is more like Simon, and Daniel is more like Jack. I also think Robert acts similar Roger.
I liked George, you could tell he took his responsibility seriously and tried to actually help the kids like Sim who weren't fitting in well. But rude kids like Michael and Daniel literally can tip the balance and cause expedited entropy.

I lowkey felt so bad for Sim because they made him do the work when they mostly made the mess, and when they didn't want to sit with him made me so sad. But I did love the fact that George was always comforting him and being his partner in the game it was a great choice to make him the leader he did a great job.
