VW Air-cooled PICT 31-4 Rebuild Video. Cleaning and building this vintage carburetor.

Thought I'd walk everyone though the process of rebuilding one of these vintage carbs. While not overly complex by any means, these, as well as the much more common 34 models do have some quirks.

Hey Buddy. Another great video. Loved the in depth info on it. You bring back a lot of great memories. I worked at NAPA for 6 yrs. Went from a driver to counter/Outside sales. My brother worked there for over 25 yrs till his passing. We had a older shop outside town that the owner of it was well known for rebuilding carb. He is the last one in the area to have the know how to do such a thing. Today its just buy a new one if you need one which is very sad in my eye. Thanks for all you do. Be safe.

carb rebuilding is a dying art.. my 1982 f250 and f150 had carbs... and i would need to rebuild them every year.. due to the fuel .. but a nice tuned carb ..sounded sooo nice.. dont forget those fancy OLDER sports cars with dual carbs that had to be tuned carefully..awesome video.. i love this video!.. u took me down memory lane! wow !!!

Dual carbs... Ugg! One is hard enough to dial in, those older MG's had two carbs and they would drive me nuts!

I had a 65 VW transporter once that I purchased from a German guy who owned a local VW parts store, the engine was a dual port 1835 with a 32 PICT on it. Whatever he did to make that carb and engine combo work was beyond me, it got fantastic fuel mileage and it never starved even with my foot in it, I kick myself for selling it.

Interesting fact about the Isuzu.

They really hung on with their electric feedback carb. It was an interesting thing for it's time, but 1996 came along with the OBD-II standard and they have to give up. Rather than give the great Isuzu Pickup an upgrade, they quite, and started selling the second generation Chevy S-10 as a Isuzu Hombre. Later they did it again with the L200, a rebadged Chevy Colorado.
Sucks, since the Isuzu Pickup was better than either of those trucks.

The title is "34 PICT 4" Was that a PICT 3 ora PICT 4? Mine is a PICT 4 and looks different than yours??

This is a PICT-3. The job is the same though.

Quality and Aircooled parts no longer exist in the same sentence. All of it is made in China now. That said, the generic kits do work pretty well.

I did consider the two barrel weber, but... I stuck with stock. Maybe down the road a ways.
