    Dr.Park, there is one more very important element to this equation. I had acid reflux for most of my life. I was put on a proton inhibitor called Losec and I continued taking it for years. However, I am now much healthier finding intermittent fasting to help and a better diet, but by accident I discovered something so very simple. My covid challenge, back when a lot of us were isolating in our homes, was to learn a new culture and language. I chose Korean. With it came the Korean eating style. I discovered Kimchi. I had tried many probiotics to help my acid reflux but none worked. I did not know when I first tried Kimchi that it was a probiotic. What I noticed was that my acid reflux was diminished. I ate Kimchi every day, without taking my Losec, for a week and I had no acid reflux anymore. It's been 11 months since my discovery of Kimchi, and that it is a live fermented probiotic and extremely helpful with acid reflux. I now make my own batches of Kimchi and I eat it every day. Perhaps discuss how active probiotics can neutral stomach acid and return it to its natural balance. Thank you for all your hard work to help us. 🙏🌹

      Curious if it was the probiotics or the cabbage. Some say that because cabbage has S-Methylmethionine, which helps in acid reflux.

    • @RaechelleBennett782
      @RaechelleBennett782 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      @@youlknowmyname I believe it is the Kimchi. Before I discovered Kimchi, I normally ate a lot of cabbage. Fresh cabbage is always in my fridge and I consume it at least 5 out of 7 days per week, cooked or raw in salads. I ran out of my homemade Kimchi this past 3 weeks and even though I consume cabbage almost daily, my acid reflux is returning. Perhaps it doesn't work as a probiotic/acid diminisher for everyone, it works for me. I just made a new batch of Kimchi yesterday. 🌹

      GERD also has a lot to do with intra-abdominal pressure. If someone is trying to inhale or holding their breath when the body needs to exhale, then the pressure will just force the contents of the stomach back up the esophagus in order to make the room that it needs. But doctors won't tell you this, of course.

    Hi Doctor Steven
    You seem to be very knowledgeable person, I have a question if you kindly guide me in this respect. 4 years ago I talked to my ENT specialist about a small lump on my neck. He did biopsy and ultra sound and told me he wasn't sure what it was but it's about 4 cm ad not benign. 2 years later he did again ultra sound and didn't tell me anything about it, now he sent me again for ultra sound and told me the nodules on my thyroid are growing and it is now 5 cm and must be removed immediately since it may be cancerous. At this time I asked him so many questions like: why he wasn't sure what it was 4 years ago. why he said it is not canserous. Why he didn't suggest any medication over the years and now he wants to perform surgery right away????? Well I told him I need some time to think about it because, I don't feel any problem with breathing, eating and speaking and what happens if after the surgery it goes other way around? I shal appreciate your reply.

    1. Do whatever you can to lower your stress levels. 2. Avoid anything that can lower acid production such as stress or medications. 3. Optimize nasal breathing. 4. Take care of any snoring or obstructive sleep apnea, as well as lose weight if you’re overweight. 5. Get your vitamin D to a level above 60. Get more sunlight and/or supplement if needed. 6. Go on a very low-carbohydrate diet. This will help you to lose weight, as well as many other health benefits. 7. Promote your body’s melatonin production by avoiding screens before bedtime and as much sun exposure as possible for vitamin D and mitochondrial melatonin production.

  • @lindadsfan8538
    @lindadsfan8538 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great Video! Very interesting about the melatonin. I would not have put those two things together, but since i stopped taking melatonin my reflux has definitely become noticable at night. Will go back to low dose and see how that goes. Trying to get one's nose to work is a much more difficult thing. After multiple (unsuccessful) surgeries to improve that, i'm going to do a cpap trial. Hope it helps with keeping the nostrils open as my sleep ENT says it helps 20% of patients with that. Wish there was a steroid spray that worked for me, have tried them all and even specially compounded steroid rinses.

      Good luck with your CPAP device. One thing to consider for CPAP to work better is nasal surgery. It won't cure your sleep apnea but it can make CPAP much more comfortable. The same for mandibular advancement devices.

    I have a stuffy nose, LPR, and OSA. I have noticed a high correlation between the number of events I have in a night, and severity of LPR symptoms. It all seems linked - stress, sleep, relux. It also seems to be multiple directional. I was shocked when I found out that I had OSA because I am thin and thought that it was only for people who are overweight (same with reflux).

    • @doctorstevenpark
      @doctorstevenpark  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Although being overweight raises your risk of sleep apnea, you can be young, thin, female, and not ever snore and still have severe obstructive sleep apnea. My main point is that it's mainly due to jaw structure narrowing, which I describe in my book, Sleep, Interrupted.

    I was told by an ENT that using fluticasone in combination with Afrin will help unstuff your nose + you won't get addicted to the Afrin (which would happen when used alone). I have been doing this for over a month and haven't noticed any stuffiness during the day. Per my fitbit my deep sleep has increased.

    • @doctorstevenpark
      @doctorstevenpark  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It sounds like you're on the verge of being addicted. Afrin is not meant to be used for more than a few days. Since you're already on the Fluticasone, talk to your doctor about stopping Afrin. If you have rebound nasal congestion, then there are other ways to wean you off Afrin. Ultimately, it sounds like you'll need to see an ENT to address your stuffy nose. Good luck!

I am someone that has seasonal allergies, stuffy nose, and the recently diagnosed with sleep apnea that I probably had it for years. At times at night my sleep gets interrupted by having a cough up what I thought was phlegm on my throat. Could it be from undiagnosed GERD?

      Thanks for your comment. What you're describing is most likely acid reflux, which can reach this sinuses. Even if you take anti-acid medications, stomach juices can still reach the sinuses (and ears and lungs), which still contain other major irritants, such as pepsin, a digestive enzyme.

    Great video! I was recently diagnosed with EoE. The doctor has me on 20mg of PPIs (can't tolerate intial 40mg) that I can only take every other day otherwise I have body pain and am tired. I'm still more tired the days I take it. I've seen the research of long term use. It doesn't look good. In your video you suggest not taking the PPIs is that correct? The goal is reducing the eosinophils and inflammation in the esophagus so continued stricture doesn't take place. Aside from your video, any thoughts on this? And, luckily I don't have Sleep Apnea.

      Raising the head is a great idea. There are a number of good wedge mattress/pillows for this.
      @jamesvaughan4274, try different things and experiment. It sounds like you may need to see a sleep doctor to see if you have obstructive sleep apnea, as this is a major reason for acid reflux. Medications may lower stomach acid, but won't prevent reflux, which includes bile, bacteria, and digestive enzymes.

The acv and hcl strengthens the acid thereby improving the les function allowing it to stay shut by a stronger pressure seal.. I saw studies showing using melatonin supplement.. Is 3mg for 10 weeks safe.. What you think on side effect.. Some say it causes eye issue?
