Well, I did warm to this one, but not enough for it to become part of my collection. Nice watch though, just so long as you are paying 50% of retail, max. Cheers, Jody
It didn't stop exactly at the one minute mark initially because you stopped and started the chrono before it reached that mark the first time. In other words, the subdials will stop spinning once they run for a full minute un-disturbed. Everytime you stop and restart the chrono, you effectively reset the "timer". I know this because I had the bulova lunar pilot which had a 1/10 second subdial that behaved similary. Cool watch though!
This one's on my radar. I think we just get used to seeing so many generic lookalike designs, the moment a maker thinks outside the box we call it ugly
If it launched in green it would no doubt be the Seiko Shrek.
Finally!!!! A proper chronograph! I quite like it. My only niggle is that the main hands could easily record up to 12 hours.
This style is coming back! I love it. It fits perfectly alongside some Oakleys and some DC shoes
Although I'm not a fan of quartz I reckon this layout is super cool. Also I love the fact that there ISN'T a ticking second when it's in time mode. This is one of the cool features that I love about my several old Seiko 6138 and 6139 Chronographs as well as my archaic Citizen Bullhead chronographs as well as some of the old Heuer movements. I love the symmetry of all these pieces with all of the Chrono hands pointing to 12 . They look poised for action . I also quite like the small.subdial form the time. This thing is purpose built. Pity about the lack of adjustability on the bracelet. Great to see a review of one of these!
I've always really liked this watch. Super distinctive and very "Japanese "
I'm just glad it's not green and light blue. The dial and pushers remind me of the alien toys in Toy Story.
Ha! Indeed!
every time I see it I think of my Mum's Yorkshire pudding tray!
Oh man I think this is one of the coolest new releases one could get. Badass watch.
If I had a job or a real need for a stopwatch often I’d definitely get one, I like the layout of the dials…for a stopwatch, as a normal watch with a stopwatch feature then nah.
The watch is not ugly, but our brain is used to seeing the same or similar patterns every day, and when a pattern that is different from all the others appears, we hardly accept it.
i agree
It’s ugly let’s be real
Nope, its ugly
Shut up dude😂
Its ugly as fuck
It is ugly, there is no sugar coating it
With the pusher and main dial formation, it reminded me of the ☠️ ..which fittingly is at the very start of the Goonies
OK, I feel like a crazy person but I REALLY like the look of this. It kinda has a sports version of a high horology thing going on with the smaller inset time. And that 1/100 hand, wooooooo! Probably too expensive for a quartz, but looks great.
I like this one! I would have loved this in my life before 40!!! This dial is actually much better than any Speedmaster or Daytona or whatever, because the pointers never overlap each other and the scales never get in each other's way, so there is no clutter for the eye. I can read this one without my vision getting detracted!
The only problem I know will be for me (looking at another multiple calendar complication 38mm dial) is my old eyes now need a magnifying glass for those small dials (the main one is actually big enough, and they are all high contrast, so, eh, maybe I could see them all?), so I am back to my divers and railway style dials, which are big and clear enough, without clutter!
I recently even tried out and then returned a watch I would have welded to my wrist when I was 12, a Casio W800, because the digi-display was just a tad too small to read anymore. Maybe I'll try a W96 next, but my now rare and out of production Skagen SKW6025 with its white railway dial, black hands, and red second hand for Sundays, and those 3 Invicta Pro Divers and 2 Tandorio pilot/field watches (36mm and 39mm) are perfect for now! OH, not to forget, the Casio MQ24 34mm analog, also a white face with black hands, is easy to read as well, and perfect for yard and plumbing work!
I have the all black world Athletics version with gold accents and love it. I also paid less than retail.
The dial layout is different and that is cool but those pushers are over the top for me. I think it would look and wear better with pushers more like those on the Bulova Lunar Pilot.
Reminds me of the kinetic Sporturas that were not received well and now they are collectables and worth a pretty penny, especially the look-a-like SLQ’s
A quartz stopwatch that also tells time? Could be handy if you need to time things a whole lot. Track & field coach, maybe?
Some inflight watch watching! Awesome. Thank you.
Nice one. Safe travels mate!
@@JustOneMoreWatch thanks!
HEY YOU GUYS! Totally agree with the review Jody. Has anyone else had an issue with AliExpress's new collected by courier BS? I ordered the new addisdive 39mm Hamilton homage and was contacted by the seller they were now out of stock but I can't cancel the order because it's been picked up by the courier even though it's still in my to be shipped page. The watch itself looks great.
You need to go into the mindset of this is not your orthodox style chronograph, but more of a sort of analogue version of Seiko's professional line of digital stop watches, the one's you would see at sporting events ⏱️
I'm surprised at how much I like it. . Great video. Cheers.
I think it would look a lot better with the crown at 3, 2 pushers in normal chronograph locations, and one at 10 o clock
Dang, I LOVE it! So cool and bold. Great one Seiko!
Great functionality. I can imagine my 80s track coach using that with his Bike brand shorts…
This sort of model actually came out in the 1990s in the Sportura lineup.
I think they need one more pusher said no one
🤔🤔... what about another pusher for a backlight?
It’s not that ugly IMO. And the cool functionality definitely takes a lot of stink off of the “ugliness.” Very cool indeed. Thank you for showing us this watch.
Sloth love Chunk!
Chunky Bezel…
at first I was like, what were they thinking? But after a couple of months, I kinda like it now, especially the grey-ish dial with orange sub dial hands.
It's unique and I think for what you paid is a great option to boring 2 and 3 subdial models...
That last outside sun shot looked fantastic!
Interesting watch. I reckon the party dial keeps running for a minute after you press a button....
Actually, that dial layout : the word “catspaw” comes to mind for some reason.
Wears Nicely. Is Functional. Braelet actually looks nice. Can be had at a good price on grey market. This seems like a killer deal if you need a good Chrono. Kinda cool.
Love it. Wish it was 200m but I’m in. I’ll wait for the price. 👍
I think it looks cool.
That watch is stunning.
I picked up the 140th anniversary white dial Laurel edition a couple months ago. Love it, perfect weekend watch. It’ll grow on you 😉 great review
I own the brown dial sfj005 and really love the watch. It’s a conversation starter.
I also own the original solar reference in blue ssc815 and I love that watch a little more - definitely more traditional.
I bought the le version .kind of a chocolate color. Love the look and design. ❤
Have some citizen bull heads also. Really fun to use, and wear
Hey Judy, my dad just got into my room and saw the thumbnail of this video, he laughed his ass off. You got my like sir.
I'm getting WWI era gas mask vibs from this dial.
13:34 - - I made it to the end, Jody.
Nothing has changed. I 💕 your content & definitely not unsubscribing. As you know from prior posts being for or against, everyone has an opinion & in the end, it's up to the individual...We just happen to disagree on this one - beit the model or design.
This is what makes our hobby awesome ⌚😎🤙
That's a good looking watch, with a hint of the SNL015 Alien Head (man I wish they'd redo that one.) To my mind it's a stop watch that just so happens to tell time.
I couldn't resist one of these. It's like having a mirror strapped to my wrist 🤪
It's like a Speedtimer and Sportura were mashed together. Slothtimer has a nice ring to it. Hey you guyssssss!
Think its a cracking watch; looks like the old Seiko Sportura kinetic watches👍
First I saw this watch I thought it was horrendous. For some reason, I've grown accustomed to it and I don't know why.
I like the design, looks, functionality, and size. It’s a tool watch that would be both useful and fun for me. For those who want to see and use analog timekeeping, it is fantastic.
This watch set the priority to the Chrono - if the use of the Chrono is your prime use and local time just a nice add this watch is perfect….
The design of this intrigued me - I like it but I haven't seen in the flesh but mine arrives today so I'll soon know If it is the ugly duckiling
This is definitely on my radar.
This is my new favourite watch that I can't afford - until the next one.
Cool shirt man
This is incredible
Agree with the main dial, hour hand too small, maybe in orange would help?! Don't mind the layout, definitely on the novel side which is hard to achieve
Hello and thanks for this video. Seiko didn't go far enough. I would have added a pusher at 3 and another at 9 o'clock. Or perhaps two on the top, to have the weirdest bullhead watch ever made. 😂
The chrono function itself is rather cool. It is just a bit incongruous that the main subdial has no second hand at all when the chrono can measure down to 1/100 of a second. But what really rubs me the wrong way are the three pushers and the crown which look like two skewers have penetrated the case.
I think that is a good design and in the future will be a collectible watch
I like it. Quite unique looking. Bet these things will be worth a penny or two in 20 years
This is just behind the AE 1200 in my shortlist of crazy subdials I don't need
That’s right. But i like my (modded) AE 1200 so much and I don’t like the price tag on the Seiko. :-)
@@knutjunker2019 I can why people love the Casios I dont.
@@hattyfarbuckle Nobody is forced to like Casios. :-)
@@knutjunker2019 There are plenty of Casio's I do like like and my latest GShock is one of the most worn watches in my collection [or should that be affliction] - with me its most chronos and multi-subdials I don't go for - doesn't stop me looking though in the hope of conversion;-] ...
The way the registers are cut into the "chapter" ring really puts me off. Maybe it's the way the video comes across but it doesn't seem like a uniform gaping/space between the dials and the ring. Again maybe it's just me and the way it looks on video. Thanks again Jody for your reviews
Each generation has their own idea of how to develop a new design, but this model really makes my eyebrows raises on one side.
Don't like solar movements for the most part. If this were a mechanical, automatic or kinetic movement; I'd be all over it 😻
I like it. Getting quite fatigued with all these GADA releases. Sure they 'work' with everything, but lately I've been wanting something more fun, even if it isn't as versatile.
I much prefer my Speedtimer 41. I get a surprisingly good fit given it has that same 2 position micro adjustment clasp. Got mine for A$ 690.
I like the look of this but love some constant movement on my dial. If only it had a regular seconds… but no idea where or how they would do it.
Okay Jody I've bought two Origin watches so I need you to listen to me. 😅
First yeah the dial that shows the time is actually quite small but in the seiko's defense the hands and markers are very high contrast and very legible. I don't see anybody having trouble reading this if they can read a normal watch to be quite honest. I actually have a vintage Seiko arctura kinetic chronograph in my collection that uses the subregister for the main time. It's a retrograde mechaquartz kinetic flyback chronograph... How cool is that? But anyway I can read the time on it just fine, and the subregister at 6:00 for the main time is only 13 mm across. Thirteen! On the 31 mm main dial.
I'm also wondering what the logic is in complaining about a feature that you clearly saw when you were looking at the pictures online. 🤔 If it's something you clearly thought you weren't going to like why did you buy it?
Anyway, I do really like the movement but I do agree with you about Seiko missing the boat on letting the 32nd sub register be the running seconds in time mode. I also think they really missed the boat in making this a 12-hour chronograph by using both the hour and minute hands of the time to track hour and minutes separately, instead of making them run like a single hand. Granted not everybody needs 12 hours of timing capability but since when have watches ever been about needs?
And on that note the Casio comparison? This sounds an awful lot like what a lot of non-watch people say to me when they think they're being clever and are going to change my mind about watch collecting. Yes the Casio can time to 100th of a second, but that actual capability is hardly the point. My ae1200 is a perpetual calendar, but it doesn't mean I don't want a JLC. It's not always about the raw capabilities for the money it's about the style the substance the look and feel. Watches are a fashion accessory and mechanical art.
If your argument about buying the Casio instead holds water because it does the same thing, then everyone who says we should just use our phones is right.
I do love my Arctura chronograph, and I admit I have a softer spot than most for weird seiko's so seeing a weird Seiko on the channel makes me happy. I'm definitely putting this Seiko on my list because it ticks all the right boxes for me. It's weird, it's cool, it's my favorite brand and it's got a lot of interesting technology in it.
And collecting things that make us green is what watch collecting is all about.
While I'm here I also want to add, as the owner of a teal origin on a flat link and a white origin on a curved link I absolutely love my Erebus watches. I can't wait to see what you come up with for your second model.
I think the Casio reference was supposed to be for those who might buy this watch purposely for the 1/100th second timing capability, not for those who buy it for the watch esthetics.
Every time you stop and start the chronograph, you get the 1/10 and 1/100 subdials ticking for a minute. The first time around you stopped the chrono at 32 seconds. Therefore, the subdials stopped ticking at 1:32.
I like the dial and the functions very much. But i‘m not convinced of the pushers, maybe some flat ones like the bulova lunar pilot or like on an old Seamaster Chrono were appropriate, less disruptive and much more elegant for the design.
And why don’t i see the second hand ticking in Time Mode?
Excellent, the Seiko Shrek. Watches for radio…
Pink Floyd T-shirt… 🔥👌🏼
I actually really like how quirky they look. The only reason i havent bought one is because i think the pushers are too long and the 4 o clock looks too different from the rest.
I like them. Just trying to get my head around no date before I plunge.
Absolutely looks like a paw - at least it’s got vertical symmetry
Just ordered one of these for $575 (USD)...can't wait.
A+ thumbnail 😆
really cool engineering and looks cool
Wow, it's hypnotic in action, very cool. But 1300 AUD is madness, and even at half that, it's not exactly a bargain.
That is an incredible looking Seiko
First Seiko I've liked in a long time. If it were half the price you paid I'd be interested. Cheers!
I kind of love the look of this watch, price is ludicrous though
the jacob and co Seiko hahaha😢
I'll save 1/2 the MSRP as you suggest Jody - and apply it towards the tax on a new Speedmaster, white laquer dial. 😉
Great shirt, great content!
It's cool to see it, the dial layout is unique and interesting but overall it's not the watch for me 🤷🏻♂️
Yes a little hugly, the most hugly for me is the quartz....will be better like a vintage bull head...but some expensive watchs are more hugly, like richar mile,hublot,jacob&co..and this seiko looks like a lange et shone...but i confess i like hugly watch like this,i own an orient superking reisue so...
I think its awesome watch 😎
Ha ha ha that’s so got to be called the Seiko Sloth, I hope it does, very funny 😂
TOMW: "Seiko cannot get dial alignment right reliably"
Seiko Execs: "We want four dials on the face"
11:21 - - I don't believe there's nothing to complain about the price on this... for the most part. Back in the 90's the kinetic similarity to this was about the same price range...25+ years ago!!!
In 1996, my wife paid $450 for the SKH060, a simple date Kinetic for our 10th Anniversary at an authorized dealer.
I think its rather cool, to be honest. At least not the same dive- or field-watch over and over again.
Can imagine this one in some 70s/80s-colors...but the price, ouffff
Besides: maybe a good idea to include the watch-name/link to store for this one in the video-description or am I blind?
It's not a bad looking watch. I like the dimensions of the case, right in my sweet spot. As far as the bracelet, I'm not a fan of male endlinks, 2 micro adjustments, and no half links make this a non purchase for me, especially at this price. Great review, though. Thanks
I normally don't like Panda watches and my first impression of this one was that it wasn't my style. When you put it into chrono mode suddenly I get it- the design is functional. So in this case beauty is as beauty does. If a person needs to use a chrono a lot, and needs high time resolution, I can see the attraction to it. I think any person who wants to use the subdials of a watch needs to have pretty good vision.
Not ugly at all. I think it looks very cool!
I kind of want one
That's a Minger.
British Isle folks have the best cursing.
😂
Think the dial actually looks great but the pushers... deary me
Interesting design. But I think I'd go for the original version if I had to choose.
Reminds me of the Seiko Sportura.
