Also reinstate The Fairness Act in political advertising giving equal time to every political party and candidate and turn the controll of the debates back to the League of Women Voters as it used to be and place them all both local and national back on broadcast television and radio so that everyone has access to political debates and not just those like us who can afford internet access and cable news television or subscription radio services.
Killer Mike is tedious
The point about enacting change on the local level is absolutely essential. Rather than the hobbyism of the national drama.
Even a broken Killer Mike is right once a day. Dead-wrong on cash reparations at a time when we could liquidate the entire American economy and STILL be $6 trillion in debt. Can't even believe we're talking about reparations when there's no. fucking. money. Right on local politics; everybody's focused on all this performative drama in DC when what they do there NEVER impacts people's lives at street level when it's LOCAL elected officials who can and should answer to voters in their local communities.
The local level is more difficult because there's less voter turnout, for the most part. The more local the election the harder it is to get things done; private contractors and city council members stuffing each other's pockets.
@robvangessel3766 right wing billionaires have been gobbling up local news channels for years. Those are the biggest drivers of investigative journalism that gets picked up by national audiences. With local channels parroting national news only, locals are free to enact the most damaging legislation with little pushback

In reality, my ancestors were slaves for 1000 years in the Ottoman Empire and the Middle East, but you don't hear Slavic people whining about it everyday. 😎 Not only that, we didn't get freed until the fall of the Ottoman Empire (20th century).... I hate to break it to Killer Mike, but if everyone who was a descendant of a slave got a check -- it's basically every citizen of the United States (since we are a nation of immigrants). @@kimberlywalker3970 You missed my point. It doesn't make sense on one hand to say millions of people watching a channel are denied the truth, and then to complain when someone goes on that channel to expose them to it. Also there are 4 other panelists on The Five and I haven't seen a single one complain about Taylor Swift. Everyone is in their own bubble that exaggerates the foibles of 'the other side'. Cheers, I'm out.
Have to amend that. Jesse Watters said something crazy about Swift on his other show that I don't see. But a bunch of screaming hyenas losing their ___ about Taylor Swift is not the situation over there, any more than 'a bunch of screaming hyenas losing their ___ about Morgen Wallen is the format of MSNBC. The industry has a vested interest in making everyone think the other side is malignant. Sorry for my error earlier.

Reparations, how about the 800 TRILLION DOLLARS OF THEFT FROM STORES

Yeah, he really is using Maher's show as a soap box. Forget it, Killer. This country won't do it anytime soon, because as always, the devil is in the details. If one doesn't have a rational plan, one shouldn't persistently whine about anything. Give us solutions, Killer Mike. The 2% from the corporations wasn't a horrible idea, but who is going to take it? The government? Who gets the reparations? If the 2% idea doesn't work, who pays? How much each? Mike isn't stupid, but he is obsessed.

Why doesn't the black community start a machine shop and start making parts and vying for government contracts which theyre already given an advantage of winning and employing their neighbors? I run a manufacturing company and you're put to the head of the line, especially on government work, if your a minority or woman owned business.
Reperations my ass.....Nothing now and nothing later
We should be getting reperations for putting up with the black community
Wow, these people are so brainwashed with blue and red. This country needs a third party. I'm tired of these 2!
Great. What's your color going to be? Green? So we'll be brainwashed with blue, red, and green.
George Washington warned us about political parties, but the wealthy needed them to wield their power. A third and forth party won't help. Get rid of long election times and PAC's and dark money. Citizens United and the right-wing SCOTUS justices screwed our system up even more.
Until proportional representation and ranked choice voting are constitutionally mandated, its not going to happen.
@@scarpfish Ranked choice voting is the way to go. It works in Alaska. Also get rid of the Electoral College unless we just have a handful of "swing states" do the voting. That way the majority of Americans won't have to watch presidential political commercials.
Political Parties are merely power structures. If you raise another party powerful enough to win multiple senate seats or president, ALL the sociopaths will be attracted to climb the top of them and they looooove selling their souls to maintain power at the top.

Yea unless its natives or jews or japanese then people are fine with reperations.
It's called leveling the playing field.
Same as having the migrant blacks who left the South return to Atlanta. There have to be jobs and immediate opportunities. Lack of employment possibilities is at least partially why they left the South in the first place.
@@reggienaidoo6514get a job
It's also very poor timing. Median black household wealth is exploding higher. This century will belong to black people, imo. Organically. If you then start writing checks and creating all kinds of benefits that 24 year old impoverished whites in trailer parks can't access, we're just creating a whole new race problem.
Reoperations, really? There are black billionaires now, and in time there will be many many more. The opportunities are clearly there, don't wait for a handout, go get you some the way American's do it. But America still needs it's disposable work force too, nothing wrong with delivering packages and cleaning floors.
Texas did not start as its own country, it was a part of Mexico.
It declared independence from Mexico and became the Republic of Texas. Then it became a state a number of years later.

Reparations is a dumb idea. The one singular thing that can and will lift America's AA community out of poverty and marginalization is something that is already mostly free: education. They should be exploiting that.
You haven't been to an inner city school recently.
@@patrickinaustin9364 You don't know where I've been.

Education is stratified based on wealth. No wealth = bad public schools. Bless your little heart for trying to make a real argument though 😂
The parents need to realize that free education is not free and if they want better schools they need to do it. There is no "team" that goes into a public school and starts making lists of what they don't have compared to schools in wealthier enclaves. Any parent waiting for someone else to educate their kid has already put that kid way behind. Too bad actual education is not funded the same way their athletics are funded. But then the people with the money know where to invest the money.....at the next potential Le Bron, Jordan or Magic. and if the investment flops they have a healthy tax write off. That's crazy the idea of making regular people pay for something they had nothing to do with its so stupid
Yet, regular people deal with things they had nothing to do with but are still affected by daily.
Had the issue been handled originally when Lincoln tried with the freedmen bureau (which A. Johnson quickly dismantled) this wouldn't be a question today, yet America has pushed and tried to hide its past for so long that many people know no or have a revised knowledge of history and fail to see the impact the true past continues to have today.

My biggest question is, who would pay? Should a second-generation immigrant pay for something that happened before his family immigrated?? How about if his mothers side of the family were 1st generation American citizen?? Honestly curious.
Everyone would pay. Even the people receiving the money.
I would think the best way would be to tax corporations and use the money to improve impoverished black communities and subsidize black-owned cannabis businesses. The government needs to work for the people but to do that the people need to hold the politicians accountable for what they say and do. Which means we need to invest in educating our citizens in civics. There are a lot of things that need to happen at the same time to have the positive effect people want for reparations.
Yes especially the 1st and 2nd generation immigrants… they gained the most. But mostly all corporations. Especially banks, airlines, and country clubs

Does he think reservations were given to Indigenous people?
I think his larger point was he's not arguing against reparations for Native Americans or any other minority. Native Americans most definitely do need investments in their communities and educational opportunities, and other things. It's shameful and quite frankly embarrassing the statistics of the Native American community, and there are only 1 to 2 percent of them so we could easily raise their living standards. I grew up in foster care and I'm aware of how poverty affects my community as an African American, with higher foster care rates than White Americans. Having said that, something like 40 percent of Native American children end up in the foster care system. That's an absurd percentage and Americans should be ashamed of that percentage. That's also an effective way to wipe out a culture if children aren't raised by their parents, that would be considered a form of ethnic cleansing by the US if it happened in another country. And that's one statistic of many of where they lag far behind the average American. If we want to live up to the ideals of America, we need to do better than reservations and casinos.
They were forced onto reservations, removing them so that their land would be available to the expansion of the US government (Manifest Destiny) and it's settlers.
I mean…they were?
@dontworrywelltalkitout9625 no, after the
Treaties were all broken, it was the worst pieces of unfarmable land that squatters didn't occupy that we were forcibly removed to
@@jmhorange Again.. Reservations weren't "given"! The land was NATIVE! Reservations were the stale crumbs that were left after squatters and the Army took everything else. Anything Natives get they treated for. They are not "minorities" they are NATIONS. Not only victims of ethnic cleansing, but contract law(ongoing). The doctrine of discovery may be the only clear cut institutional racism still perpetrated.
Should the families of Union casualties get reparations? The southern civilian families that suffered war crimes and transgenerational prejudice (Appalachia, sharecroppers).
The problem is his argument is it's solipsistic. And only serves to divide on the bases of races and thwart a panracial, economic movement.
