@@longjohn526 it's a different country and a different thought process. Truthfully all the Royals really do anymore is promote charitable causes. Promote tourism. People always think that the citizens of the UK spend so much money keeping me Royals living the high life. But the truth is, it's a cost to the citizens of less than 5bp per annum. Yeah....sure. I mean, you're not wrong. BUT.....look at the competition. Trump....and DeSantis. Orders of magnitude worse. I do not like Chris Christie. And I'm very much a progressive liberal. One of them.
But.........while I seriously doubt I'd ever vote for him, if Chris Christie were to ever become president....I would honestly not be unhappy about that. He doesn't strike me as a sociopath or a simpleton or a religious zealot. He's absolutely a slick greasy politician who loves the spotlight. But hey....I can live with THAT. Indeed, that can even be a wee bit charming.
      Basically, Christie isn't Trump....or DeSantis.....or MTG.
Is he my ideal president? Not even remotely.
But......right now? In the world that exists as it currently is? I think he IS my ideal Republican candidate/president.
Despite all logic, I somehow......somehow.....kinda sorta like the guy. And he's not a total idiot. And he seems like a real human being. And he'd be open and available to criticism....he'd engage and debate and push back.....AND I think listen and consider alternative points of view.
Anyway.....whatever. It doesn't really matter. He'll never win. The current GOP would never elect someone like Chris Christie. In that world, he's nowhere near enough of a sociopath or simpleton to be electable.

What it really shows is how much of a farce the primaries are in politics. You rip the guy in your own party, you know he is a POS and yet you still vote for him, amazing! This is the exact reason why it is impossible to defeat Trump. Trump knows he is in a party of idiots that he can control because they always vote the party line, there is no contradiction or else you are beheaded. This is the exact opposite issue on the Democratic side, there is too much partisan party action and they don't stick together in the end and then a few percentage points are taken off the voting total and the Repubs can sneak in a win.

It doesn’t matter why they ousted the PM, the point is that in the parliamentary system, you can. The electoral campaign doesn’t take two years, and it’s not limited to two parties. We see how dangerously divisive a two-party system is. The same reasons all the other parents do it: if you can afford to, you do. Cause every parent wants the best for their kids - not what's harder. Going to community or state college when you can afford elite is just going to make their post-college life harder; and for what? Principle? Cause you want it to be "harder" for them to reach their full potential? F-that. Life's too short

IDK I think "nuclear Armageddon" is an accurate term. Even if the majority of Earth's population survived a bunch of nuclear impacts, our environment would be taking just as many if not MORE hits than us, and IDK if you've noticed but we all depend on that environment for food/air/water/etc. You wouldn't just be wiping people out and leaving everything else untouched.
EDIT: And honestly I'm kinda surprised/disappointed that someone like Bill who claims to care a lot about the environment didn't think to bring it up. We know better by now than to think that what happens on one side of the world won't effect the other side somehow. We're already facing a climate change crisis, use of nukes would make it so much worse.

Tired of Bill including Pence, Barr, and now McConnell as “Best You’re going to get Republicans.” Lumping them in with Cheney, Kinzinger, and Romney?! No, and Bill actually does nuance. You can include Chris Christie in the former bucket (I guess) as he’s closer to Romney than Pence, but really it’s all more diluted. Christie is somewhere in the middle and I would say you could kind of draw the line at him. But, Pence, Barr, and McConnell because they wouldn’t end our democracy? If that’s “best you’re gonna get Republicans” then Bill’s current kumbaya mindset cannot stand because those three guys are all beyond the pale abominable. Christie, I can actually make a case for as being sane and responsible. But, given his being one of the first to endorse Trump (opportunism) and also being the guy who caught COVID from him because he was helping him prep to debate Biden, well, Christie is right on the edge.
