Just took mine today and passed it. It was kind of difficult, and I bet some of the guys there would have thought I was going to fail. I’m not the most muscular guy and I’m 5,4 feet and 135 pounds. That’s kind of small. But I didn’t give up, always remember why you do what you do, never give up, you can do it. Good luck to those taking it:)
@@GhostyGhost7007 I think having good cardiovascular condition really helps. Since we are small we need to use more energy than other bigger individuals, so having good endurance will help. Running, rowing should help. Also trying to do lift weight can help, specially for the legs, the stairs get your legs tired but just take it easy and control your breathing. It’s exhausting but not impossible, you got this 👍🏽 never give up
The longest 3 minutes of my life. The mental stress is serious here. It makes you want to quit and try the next time. All these thoughts were running through my head. But your muscles are stronger than your thoughts so keep moving.
Just passed mine today I know exactly what you mean 😂. Soon as I got off the stair master I wanted to turn to the guy and say “I’m done”. But I thought about how my dad would call me a “pussy” so I tricked all the way through finished in 9:02.
@@paranoidcricket7093 . If I remember correctly, they count you down the last 5 seconds of the stairmill portion. If I'm wrong, I can 100% say that they tell you when the time is up by allowing you to hold on to the rail to step off. The stairmill shuts off as well. You won't be confused.
First time I did it I got DQ’d because I lost balance on the stairs with only 40-seconds to go. I’m 6’ 2” and 230 lbs and I never had been on a stair master before. Only had a week to get ready for the next attempt and wore my 50lb vest every time I was on the stair master at the gym in preparation for the following week. My next attempt was a success. Completed the CPAT in 8 minutes and 54 seconds. I’m amazed at how some men and women can complete it in 8 minutes or less!
I heard it's the stairs that kill people and wind them before the relatively simple CPAT. Is that true? Man I'm gonna have to get a membership just for the stair master 😂
Where Im doing mine they would have disqualified you for letting the ladder slam at the top and you wouldve gotten a warning for throwing the sledge hammer. Nice job though, haulin ass with the dummy at first!
So im about to take the CPAT. Ive been working out for 2 years now and im 5’10 175 lbs. im pretty confident in this test but the only question i have is about the sledgehammer. I heard you have to hit 50 times. Is it not?
Couple things. Foot was outta the hose box, ladder control was not maintained and safety system caught it, maul was tossed. All violations. Dummy drag advice - Face direction of travel, 1 hand drag and go…way less taxing that backwards baby step shuffle. Almost 38 and just finished my 2nd ever with 1:45 to spare. Fitness matters.
Its a 50 pound vest and then two 12.5 pound shoulder strap weights, for a total of 75 pounds. For the rate of the stair sets I think it's 60 steps per minute
Acouple things he could’ve done to conserve his energy. “All core/waist, No homeruns” w/ sledge hammer. Take a squat position on ceiling breach. Let your legs do the work rather than arm. Then angle/shift the pole and let your body do the pulling.

I’m in the same boat, 5’7 and 135-138 usually. Got any tips for us lighter guys?

5’4 135? My 7 year old daughter is bigger then you man lol.. sheesh.. so are you a firefighter now?
@MedEx hey thanks! I'm in alabama...what state are you? I was told by the chief to be ready to go to training in October so I been working out more

Do they tell you when to get off the stair master. I take min in two days

@@alextv8975 okok thank you. I’m very nervous about the test
Been in academy for a bit now for a career ff position. we do it everyother day and its really just mind over matter at the end of the day
did mine last weekend. kept repeating to myself: "You cannot fail. You WILL NOT fail."

the dummy is the worst part IMO.

Also with the last event. If you miss or don’t complete a rep you have to make up for it with an extra one and if you miss it twice it’s a fail.
His foot was also over the line for the hose pull.
The 3 minutes in forever!!!
LETS GOOOOOOOO!!!!
They’re motivating
His foot was completely outside of the box during the hose pull...how did the proctor not catch that?
Cause it doesnt matter much lol

@@TheOutlawMan True. However he wasnt on a fire scene.
@TheOutlawMan an actual fire scene isn't going to require you to stand in a 1 square foot box :)

The lanes here look much more organized and spacious than where I took my mine. Everything felt like it was on top of eachother where I took mine.

I took the CPAT in New York City November 2022. No way. 50 Times is so inaccurate. I hit it about 8 times and the buzzer went off.
@@alextv8975 i knew it. I was like, yeah no way someone can hit it 50 times and still get under 10 minutes. I assumed it was maybe 20 at most
No. Usually takes between 15-20 at the most.

How much weight is he carrying on the stairs? How fast are the stairs set for?

My grandma can pass this test with firefighter gear on.
Then let’s see it
It’s truly difficult. Looks easy but your lungs and legs after the stair master are like noodles
Bro everyone always gasses on the dummy like it’s sneaky heavy
Literally happened to me today, I got 8:20
I didn’t. You need to properly train to take this. This is the minimum standard and you must be better than this.
@@johnnydelaguila6054 cool story bro
Safety lanyard activated on ladder raise, and I think that barrel is to close to the dummy
Cpat is a crock of BS Full gear high noon in the middle of summer, like most of us did.
Just took mine and passed 9:30 congratulations bro 🦾
