I taught at an elementary school in Pine Hills (Crime Hills), but lived in Winter Park from 2004-2013. There was a huge difference between my neighborhood versus the one that I taught at. I had 5th grader students that would tell me when I leave school to drive at least to MetroWest before I get out of the car because they didn't want me shot.

Using my wife's account because I almost never make any online comments. I was a cop in Orlando in the 90's, in District 36, which was basically the Mercy Drive area. I also worked Paramore (which is a short street), and Ivey (though part of that is in the county). I was a wild man during those times, after working federal drug interdiction (narco trafficking in the Carib, Mexico, Central and South Am. with U.S. Customs and DEA). I can tell you that I got my regular adrenaline fix on the evening and midnight shifts in W. Orlando. You could go south on Paramore from W. Colonial, and turn west on Livingston, and you were guaranteed to get hit with a barrage of rocks, bottles, and occasional gunfire (it was automatic), prompting a county-wide response from OPD, Orange County S.O., FHP, and other LEO's. Ivey was probably the worst, where the average crack dealer (on every other corner) only lived about 2 weeks. There was also a housing project called "The Palms" on Mercy (torn down later I believe). That place was unreal. Lots of crim'in, and automatic rifle fire on party nights. But don't say the cops didn't go somewhere, because the west side cops didn't hesitate to get in the shit. After I left OPD (adrenaline junkie turned expecting father), I saw a story on the news about a female OPD officer that took over my district sometime later who was shot to death.
You left out 2 important places though: 1) Church Street Station was a touristy area with bars, restaurants, etc. immediately east of the I-4 overpass, but one bad area of the hood was immediately west of I-4, so tourists would go the wrong way and get robbed, stabbed, shot, etc.; and 2) S. Orange Blossom Trail (OBT). I still remember all the unsuspecting tourists that would use travelocity or some other online travel site to book a hotel and wound up on W. Colonial or OBT, and got robbed, stabbed, shot, etc.
If anyone is actually thinking about moving to Orlando, stay in the NE or buy lots of guns and ammo.

Nice vid, got a few laughs out of me. I'd definitely suggest Holden Heights which encompasses OBT around I-4 and just south of it. Pine Hills is big, I'd say the northern edges of it are decent - obviously way north of Silver Star. Haven't been up that way in a long time though. I forget the neighborhood name but 436 near 408 might be of note too. Even beautiful Winter Garden with its lively downtown has a couple sketchy spots but I'm sure people will flip out if you mention it. 😂

I noticed that Orlando has a lack of city planning. There are expensive communities that are built adjacent to squalor; we refer to this as the "cabbage patch " city design. The streets followed the homes until someone had the good sense to do it the other way around. They think that they solve the problem by gating the communities but that is bandage on the problem. The politicians have no interest in urban planning. I've seen million dollar homes that face the "Archie Bunker " row houses because even with gated communities there is a limit on fence and hedge height.

I’ve lived in Orlando all my life. Most crime is isolated. No drive by’s like that. If someone has an issue or know who they want to rob, they go directly to that individual. Very seldom you’ll hear of random acts of violence. Most criminals here have more respect for innocent women and children than most big cities.

Lived off Main St in APK! Used to drive to Ivy Lane to get the BEST shrimp and conch fritters off window with bars. A restaurant run by Haitians. And yes....I went to OAK RIDGE HIGH✌. It was an F rated school in the 90's lol. I got my GED from Orlando Tech a year before I was supposed to graduate for this reason alone lol. Im 39 and decided to move out east ass Orlando 5 yrs ago and Im appalled at the urban sprawl...soon Bithlo going to be gentrified...its getting there. Shit is crazy over here. Theres a hood in every neighborhood😂 PS ....yes I bought drugs in all those hoods when I was young...js

I used to deliver prepared snacks for various Head Start facilities in MCO 20 years ago to ALL the hoods mentioned in your video. The one that stood out the most was Mercy Drive at The Palms. The Head Start facility consisted of two portable buildings inside a quadrangle which was surrounded by a barbed wire fence. Looked like a perfect preparation for the school -to-prison pipeline.
