Nice work. Im a retired automotive painter. Back masking as you showed is a very important skill and technique to use. Especially around door gaps, bonnet gaps and panel gaps in general. I was shown the folded tape method, whete you can fold 50% of the tape over itself , still has an adhesive 50% but the folded tape " flap " actually moves with the air flow fromthe spray gun. Leaving a beautiful featheted edge that the eye cant see.
Brilliant vid. The front ‘splitter’ plate on my 911 was all chopped up. I had resigned myself to its fate thinking that I’d just replace it in the coming months. You’ve saved me 250 quid and I’m well happy with the result. Even with just the 4 sanding phases post wipe and with some plastic renovator it looked brilliant. But when the texture paint arrived it ended up like new. Thank you.
Your videos are brilliant! There's not song and dance bullshit. It's straight to the point. The repairs you have shown are "common" everyday damage and you have shown how they can be repaired simply without any special tools. I'll be using some of these techniques with the cars at work. So happy I discovered your channel.
Excellent again! Also, what I really like is how succinct and to the point these videos are. You get these videos, often by Americans, who go on and on for hours because they like the sound of their own voices and who make everything sound like some impossible mystery. Then, by the end (if you last that long), they've actually taught very little. This is what we like....no mucking about! Great! 👏👏
"Wow, what an incredibly informative tutorial! I've always been intimidated by the idea of repairing textured plastics, but you've made it seem so simple and straightforward. Your step-by-step approach and attention to detail are commendable. Thanks for sharing this valuable knowledge!"
Thank you so much for sharing your expertise. I just had similar damage. I was wondering, if it could be repaired at all. You have just showed how to do it. Now, my only problem is if I can get similar expertise in my locality.
Howdy from Oklahoma USA! Not a repair technique but instead of a heat gun, try 50/50 mineral spirits and boiled linseed oil, restores plastics and is a long lasting effect love to see you test it. I've had great results. Heat guns work well to hide small scratches in plastics but it seems to always leave an extra shiny spot, I may have to try the grey scotch bright pad to dull it out a bit, thanks for the tips, love your channel and have learned plenty from it!
@@lydias5875 Very simple, just mix the acetone and boiled linseed oil 50/50 and wipe on with a microfiber cloth until it saturates. Be sure when finsihed, to lay out the towels used all the way open in a well ventilated area as boiled linseed oil can become combustable inside a folded cloth until it dries.
My dad did this once and used a black wood stain (exterior obviously) which he just brushed on after the sanding. Absorbed well and didn't seem to leave any brush marks. Might be worth a try.
Wow, this was really cool! I actually replaced some plastic trim on my last car because it was damaged from the previous owner. It wasn't cheap, or fun to replace. I would have liked to have tried this before replacing. Nice work! Thanks for sharing 🍻
Many thanks for imparting some very useful knowledge on this sort of trim. I have just traded in my mini clubman 2016 that had this stuff all around it, i managed to do very similar damage to the car you were working on and the best i could do was to fine sand and then black shoe cream to the area and buff with a cloth, it looked a lot better but now i would follow your tips and feel confidence in a better repair that was more permanent, rather than having to keep the shoe cream ready after each car was. But hey I get my mk3 TT shortly so no more black trim 😂. I will subscribe and do realise the time involved to produce your helpful videos. Cheers Tony
I love your channel! Ive learnt a lot in here and I see you as an artist that I am too. We both share this approach to what we do. Your touch ups and repairs are just stunning. Your heterodox and original approach to fixing paint is stupendous and attainable for people like me. Thanks once again! I will keep watching your videos since they are so cool to watch even if Im not in need of them at the moment :)
I didn't know there was a textured spray can, never seen that before, not available in my location. I painted my lower valance (plastic) bumper on my first gen toyota tacoma. It was old and faded, sanded it down, sprayed adhesion promoter then sealer, but the surface was smooth. I had a cheap chinese spraygun that was so bad, it doesn't atomize paint very well. So, I lowered the pressure to like 18 psi and dusted single stage semi gloss black paint on the valance. Looked just like textured plastic. Semi gloss black looked just like trim dressing, but permanent. Happy with the result.
Bravo, Sir. Made that look very achievable. I have several panels on my MK4 Golf that could do with that spray. Thanks for sharing the details on that 🤝🏼 Keep up the epic videos
We used to mix up a bit of araldite 2 part and apply it lightly into the scuff then sand it down to the profile before spraying Worked on scuffed alloys too.
I do minor repairs on paint or body stuff at a used car dealership. We have several cars with scuffed trim. I'm going to give this repair a try on one of them and see how it turns out. Hoping I can find the Pro XL ProTex somewhere local. If not, I'll use your link.
This video solves a huge problem I’ve always had with black texture trim getting scratched. Thanks! So well explained, however, I’d like to know how permanent is this procedure and if after having been painted could you apply trim restorer to preserve it when faded without removing the layers of paint.
Wow. Amazing work. I took my brand new 2025 Lexus in for PPF wraps and at pickup I noticed a few areas in the plastic panels got 3-5” line marks. Its not as bad as shown here. It like a pencil line marks. The place denied they touch that areas. I dont know what quick method to polish out that line marks? Would ceramic coating hide it? Thanks for any tips.
Will it work on a deeper scratch? I had an Audi 80 reversed up against a hedge, and I jacked the car up on all four sides to get under it to remove exhaust bolts so as to take the heads off. Anyways the flaming hedge put a fairly deep scratch in the plastic bumper at the back. I've not got the car back yet from the engine specalists. But am wondering if your technique will work for it. Hopefully it will. I guess if a scratch is deep enough a small bit of plastic could be melted in and then sand and heat and spray and all?
everything's repairable. I had someone backing my car into a trailer hitch and it went all through and had a gigantic gaping hole in it. I thought that it needed a new bumper, but a guy could quite easily repair it. I haven't seen the whole process, but after sanding everything smooth, a fiberglass patch was glued on with epoxy from behind and after it hardened, the front was filled with Bondo and sanded level. after the whole piece was sprayed over, it looked like brand new and you had no idea where the damaged area could possibly be (unless you look behind, lol.) just saying that pretty much everything is possible to repair.
Stumbled on your channel and found just what i needed. Great methods and techniques. Would this work for interior plastic with scuff marks near bottom door panel? Or maybe create a content on it. Subscribed and liked
fantastic job! after applying the texture spray, are you able to use a product such as Lithium Trim Cubes to keep up with future fading and protection? Or does this have to be treated as a black paint from now on?
Hi. Great video, thank you. I scuffed the front splitter on my 718 Spyder, for the first time. It’s not all that bad, but is frustrating knowing it’s now a little unsightly. Any advice on how I should go about trying to deal with it?
I just stumble acrros your channel. This is some great info and training. I am a detailer that would like to expand my services. what would you charge for this service? You provide good ideas and inspiration! Keep it up!!!

Touch an area on the paper to see if dry, if you touch the panel and not all dry, it will leave a mark.
Good video
Only recently found your channel. But I find it very good. Your knowledge and skill set is excellent. We’ll done.

Appreciate all your videos on this channel. By far the simplest, most informative and empowering channel for paint and bodywork. Top man. 👌
I just fixed my bumper following this video... and great success! Thanks a lot for the tips!

Question using the heat gun if and then painting the trim, was it just in case you don’t have trim paint?
It was just to renew the existing trim ready for some new paint
