Somewhere in the Great Beyond Herb Abrams is laughing.
So they were mad at Jim for what he said in that broadcast, but they thought this would go over well?
Billy Corgan, the vocalist of Smashing Pumpkins, the same band that has a song named "Zero" where the lyrics literally talk about cocaine as if it was a secret mistress and the music video for the song literally is headlined by a woman dressed in all white with a white wig. is the same guy who really, REALLY wanted to add a scene where characters were snorting cocaine on his show... and this surprises the network for some reason? lol
my reflection dirty mirror
there's no reflection to myself
im your lover, in your zero
im the fact in your dreams of glass
when that shit dropped, melon collie was my first CD ever. had tapes until then lol. then 311, silverchair, Manson, no doubt, offspring, Cranberries, Coal Chamber, KoRn, my god that was a good couple years for music from 95 to 97 dude. not to mention all the punk rock and hardcore coming from epitaph records, victory records and fat records.
Matt Riddle to NWA confirmed the skit would have been funny with a Tiny Con impersonater
Hell yeah, A Tiny Con impersonater that's about 3' 10" complete with the poodle mop on his head with white powder on his nose...
Jim as Tony Montana is not on my Bingo card, Travis does it again!
I stopped watching NWA wrestling programs when Nick Aldis left the promotion which was shortly before Tyrus won the NWA Heavyweight Championship. I watched Aldis interview with Sam Roberts and immediately cancelled all my NWA subscriptions and even deleted Fite TV from all my devices.
That’s exactly the path I followed! Aldis was my favorite wrestler at the time. I still can’t believe Corgan had rather have a gimp than a National Treasure.
Lemming
The CW replaced the WB network in 2006, then later on UPN got renamed to MyNetworkTV, then years later the 2 networks merged to now just the CW networks
Somewhere Vince McMahon is like "This is good 💩"
You forgot the pal.
Corny Montana
212 people watched this PPV and one of them was a stooge 😅
I'd like to think it was Dave Meltzer. He buys all these shows.
So basically, the Sinister Minister has become a low-rent version of Anton LaVey and they think this is gonna make them look "edgy"? If that's the case, then maybe that coke came from Billy Corgan's personal stash, because Mr. Pumpkins must be high as fuck.
AEW has a Pepsi scandal(Punk) and the NWA has a Coke scandal. Does that mean that TNA is going to get a Dr. Pepper scandal?
This just in. Dr Pepper got caught fucking a dog, while Dr Pib held its head
This lolol
Or WWE for that matter?
@@jtothehtvwwe has a lot of scandal when vinnie mcidiot was still running the show.
Don't quit your day job
Man, good thing they didn't have anything REALLY outrageous like a joke from 30 years ago that wasn't meant to be inflammatory. Then CW would be RWEALLY mad. What the hell is wrong with these dopes?
"Say hello to my little friend!"
And out came Hornswaggle.
Corny speaks the truth, gotta respect his knowledge of the business.
Just when you think you've seen everything. Nice work, Corgan. 🤣🤣🤣
Billy Corgan: I’m in love with the CoCo
CW: Now your TV show is a No-No
This picture is amazing 😂
Travis doesn’t miss with his thumbnail images, but NWA threw an interception at the goal line when they should’ve ran it in.
NWA began so well and now we had this...
The sinister minister took the biggest bump on ppv since mankind coming off the top of the cage in hell In a cell... lmao 🤣
In the 80’s if fans saw a wrestler doing cocaine, they would think the wrestler was doing cocaine.
Today, the fans would recognize that it was a sketch.
Flair helicoptered Tony into a corner.....and Tony feared for his life.......
"Ruining a good thing" has become the NWA calling card the last few years. The first few weeks of NWA Powerrr was legit compelling: good mix of familiar veteran talent and young up and comers with a unique aesthetic that resonated well with fans. Then little by little, it slowly degraded into the mess it is today. It's a shame because there are still veteran names there that can still go like Chris Adonis/Masters, but because the brand has become toxic, most fans will never know.
It looks like Anthem Sports and Entertainment (parent company of TNA Wrestling) owned AXS TV would be perfect destinations for Billy Corgan's National Wrestling Alliance, Court Bauer's Major League Wrestling and Dave Marquez's United Wrestling Network.
With AXS TV already being the home of TNA Wrestling, the National Wrestling Alliance, Major League Wrestling and the United Wrestling Network also being on AXS TV would be monumental!!!
For those thst don't know, AXS TV is available and reaches over 50 million households in the United States and over 50 households in Canada, Europe, the United Kingdom and Africa.
And dont Forget Fight Network which airs more wrestling programs so would be cool to see Fight Network expand the U.S. Market 😊
Billy Corgan managed to make Dixie Carter look like a competent promoter after this.
They should have had a Tony Khan lookalike there too
😂
“Bringing back the territories?” The whole point of the territory system was that an audience in one territory would not normally see the other territories’ shows.
Imagine if a promotion these days tried to make a living on selling tickets by going to these seven towns every week for three years:
New Orleans
Baton Rouge
Shreveport
Jackson MS
Biloxi
Lafayette
Lake Charles
Billy Corgan definitely balling his eyes out after seeing NXT moving to CW🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Man, hearing Cornette talk about the WB and UPN like they were the DuMont Network makes me feel SO old.
NWA Straight Outta TV Deal..
Artwork of the Year!!
If you cats had a fundraising art event, collecting high quality prints of Heckle's artwork on canvas or high gloss archival paper, wirh each piece signed by Cornette, Last and Heckle and gave proceeds of the sale thereof to a charity of note...it would generate an incredible bit of moolah and excitement. I can't believe how great this partnership between the three of you has truly been, over the years.
I second this. I own very, very little wrestling memorabilia, but I’d absolutely go for this. Make each print an exclusive or an incredibly small run (2, 5, no more than 10), and you’d have a hell of a fundraiser.
@@zlinedavid I'm just saying: these cats have the number 1 and 2 highest rated wrestling podcasts on the planet.
Mr. Heckle's work perambulates through both shows.
You could auction those at Sotheby's if they wanted, and garner extraordinary, original world famous art level, damn-near Matisse-Picasso-Warhol-Basquiat Level cash...
@@TheAlphanonanonymous Eloquent hyperbole that Jim himself would be proud of. Good promo. 😂
What a great idea!
@@zlinedavid Thank you! We have our moments. LOL...but, no: I'm serious. Put just 10-20 of those to public auction with bidding starting at 10,000 USD, and They could easily raise over a couple million, methinks. I mean that sh!t. #SoldToTheManOnThePhoneInDubai
Guaranteed Tony Khan tries to outdo this! 😂
Tony Khan is probably upset that he wasn't invited to the coke party
Well Billy wants to bring the territories back.
This was by far the most genius things they have done in a long time, no one ever talks about them and now everywhere is talking about them, and that was the point
They lost a tv deal because of it. NXT has the spot now. I don't think that was the plan.
NWA got the best publicity in this clip from JCE podcast, their CW shows woulda bombed
Are you seriously suggesting that *anyone* is going to say "you know, I wasn't really interested in NWA/wrestling in general, but after learning they had someone do coke on TV, I'm definitely gonna find out where I can watch this AFTER THEY LOST THEIR EFFIN TV DEAL OVER THIS"?
and BINGO was his name O!!!!!!
@@KomradeKrusher People are morons and will make absolutely any excuse for a promotion they like. 😂😂
WB network used to show movies and baseball all weekend when I was a kid. Friggin ruled.
Thank you for mentioning WPIX, Jim. I miss my boyhood watching New York’s Movie Station, before the WB and CW.
WB still owns a small part of CW, God I want Raw to be on TNT in Nitros old spot
But we all know that's not gonna happen because of their commitments to AEW
And the CW has already inked a deal with NXT....
Nice going NWA.
I'm sure Tony Khan thought his invitation must've got lost in the mail😂. ☃️👃🏾☃️👃🏾😵💫
Dont forget to leave out a line for me brother -Hulk Hogan
The other network you all couldn’t remember was MyNetworkTV. When UPN and WB merged, some affiliates got the CW which essentially was all of the decent shows from both channels rolled into one, while the other affiliate in that market got the MyNetworkTV affiliate which was new formatting that banked on the premise that Telenovelas being huge everywhere in the world it would also be huge in America (like futbol and cricket, not the case).
My job was a WB station which wound up with MyNetworkTV and the initial programming was ass. A couple of telenovelas and reality shows. Eventually we would get Smackdown! Which was a huge shot in the arm and automatically the biggest program the station had.
I was at that live event. It was actually a fun time. NWA had managed to get their chops busted a few times over their broadcasts........ Ask Jim Cornette about how tough Trevor Murdoch is.
Been waiting for this clip
How appropriate that The Sinister Minister partakes in the consumption of the Devil's Dandruff!
They didnt shoot themselves on the foot. They shot themselves in the head!
Billy Corgan done a Kurt Cobain
So edgy
@@coldnightmare199 lol
I see the problem, but at the same time it’s the CW, they aren’t exactly the most quality television channel with things like Riverdale being the most popular show.
So no t.v is a better option? Clown world
@@Ted_Bellwhere did I say that?
@@ShatteredPedestal7When you said it. 🤡
Tv is dead
NWA: "Let It Snow!!"
Boyz II Men: Hey that's our line!
Tis is bye far the most hilarious thing I've ever seen... Coke n Wrestling.
Billy Corgan had a chance to bring back “real wrastling”.
He blew it.
…….more like snorted it!…….
After seeing this I was immediately reminded of Anchorman 2. "Well now we know guys, you can't smoke crack on tv."
This is soooo horrible, we all know simulated drug use has nevvvver been portrayed on television before 🙄
I didn't think it was possible, but Billy Corgan made the NWA even more irrelevant than it was before. No serious company is going to want to work with NWA after this incident.
You would think Mitchell would know better that something like that wouldn't fly. lol Were they unhappy and trying to sabotage it? That's the only fucking thing that would make sense. lol
Shit... EVERYONE is going to want to work with them... especially the BOYS!...
I gave up on it late last year, after only a year of watching. Because there was too much bad comedy and lowsy booking. I think I made the right decision.
Not everything should be hypercorporate, PG bullshit. I want wrestling to be edgy again.
@@matthewmagda4971 Apparently the networks don't.
This sketch would not be so surprising 20 years ago with the weird stuff WWE and TNA did, but it's mad that anyone thought this would end well in 2023.
It was very distasteful of Billy Corgan to exploit Tony Khan's drug problem on television!
Everyones an idiot now
There's no era when sponsors would have found this stunt acceptable.
During the attitude era it would have been fine, I mean Brian pillman pulled a gun on stonecold,
Corny Montana: Say hello to my leetle friend!
Brian: …..and you are our friends.
Ty Jim
Cornette is one of the least convincing VPN sellers I’ve ever heard. The man doesn’t even know what the thing actually does let alone use it himself.
That can be said about every product he advertises. Hell, I remember when he used to promote Magic Spoon cereal, and then when he no longer promoted it and Brian brought it up, Jim said "I never ate that shit. It was ALLLL a WORK!".
You must be new around these parts son, welcome!
Did you actually expect him to use it? Have you heard him explain these ads? It’s just like any other podcast or radio show promoting ads.
@@Lenny_Hondo Thanks mate ya i'm relatively new here, while I dont agree with everything he says I still find him very entertaining.
The people that put 2 seasons of Bat Woman on TV are scared of minor league wrestling?
This was obviously recorded during the 6 hours between CW saying "Ehhh... no" and "NXT MOVING TO THE CW!"
Sounded like they already knew about nxt and cw listening to the clip
@@dmoody4047 probably didn't know 100%, but logic was yelling in their heads, and they laid out what the logic yelling was saying.
I can believe that too, I just think they have really good sources. Seems like they talked to someone that told them cw was looking for content since spring, and wwe was negotiating when corgan shouldered him on his way into the door
Katy Vick, I rest my case
The snowman bout to go to nwa now lmao 🤣😂
funny thing is people are actually talking about nwa which is what billy was probably going for
Now we know why Nick left he got out before the cart came of the track
I am so busy right now but this just can't wait 😂
He outdid Tony in the stupidity department. HOW DO YOU DO THAT?!
Corgan managed to divide by zero it seems.
BEEN WAITING!!!!
This might be the best illustration ever for a clip
I'm digging NWA
This might make people tune into NWA..
NXT is going to CW in 2024. No way in hell they allow another company on there. So now the NWA wont even get on the streaming app
""Sam Hayne"? Is that how you pronounce it?"
[sighs in Scottish/Irish]
Razor Ramon’s entire gimmick was being a Miami drug kingpin. Would there have been an issue with implied coke use? Rather than actually showing the usage?
I'm always amazed at how this aspect of the Razor character isn't widely understood. Shows you the power of marketing.
We never saw any drugs deals, use, or even direct references to drugs. Vince knew better.
@@RaymondRichuh ... It's pretty understand, dude.
@@cameron3578No, the wrestlers just shot up backstage instead.
You could show it by not showing it. That's working. That B's was bad.
I see Billy is trying to give Russo and Bischoff a run for their money when it comes to biggest blunders done while booking a wrestling company.
I'm getting some major nostalgia vibes hearing Jimmy Cornette talk about the UPN-WB-CW connection.
Nobody takes bumps like Father James Mitchell.
This segment was off the rails and out of line.
The chain of events this set in place makes this one of the hottest topics all year. Billy was bragging about the deal with CW and It went poof like the coke going up Mitchell's nose. This is one of the stupidest moves in wrestling ever.
At least Tony Khan keeps the cocaine use off camera.
Yet they fired Jim for an old joke.
The announcer was like "Can we show that???". 🤣🤣
It's insane how Brian practically predicted that CW would choose NXT instead of NWA days before it happened...
They were just remembering Meltzer stories about the 80s and showing their own DSOTR on vice
Surprised no one took advantage off this to take a shot at Tony Khan...Hmmmmm
Why on Earth would they want James Mitchell on their show in the first place? The guy was only almost over for 5 minutes when he was the manager of Mortis before he became Chris Kanyon..... James Mitchell is as low budget as it gets.
How can a guy with his years of experience, and I would guess this was his idea, but even if the boss came up with it, you gotta squash this?!?!?
@@ebransc09 When I heard that it was Billy Corgan's idea that was my first thought but then I realized it's James Mitchell...... He'll go along with anything just to get on TV. It's not like he's been in high demand over the last 20 years.
212 buys speaks volumes.
I know this really isn't the point to any of this, but I think this is the first time I've ever heard what UPN stood for. Huh.
I got ovw on star 64 which was part of wb back in the day in Cincinnati on Saturday afternoon.I miss those days
Doing "rails off the ropes" was fuckin classic.
I come here for the ad reads
that spot was hilarious 😂😂😂
Jim havin to be rained in on the sponsor 😂
The same network that had riverdale for 7 years.
Who cares if it was an infomercial barker channel? A lost deal is a lost deal until another network signs.

*"You eff'd up, you eff'd up, you eff'd up!!"*
Hey Jim! The word Samhain is pronounced sow-when. It's the pagan holiday to celebrate the final harvest of the year. Love you guys!
Pavement were right about Billy Corgan
Funny thing is NFL players were coked up during games during the 70s and 80s. LT was doing rails in the locker room and Thomas Henderson would do it on the sidelines mid-game
6:11 “Rails Off The Ropes” has gotta be a PPV one day 😂😂😂
