Gotta applaud both Jim and Bobby Eaton for their class. The former for calling Bobby to get his blessing, and the latter for knowing what it's like to fight for a spot on the card and not deprive two guys that opportunity.
In hindsight Bobby should have put up a fight it might have saved Bart Gunn and Bob Holly from being doomed under a gimmick that made zero sense.
This is just A++++++++++ storytelling. JC is so damn intelligent and articulate when it comes to telling a story.

The funny thing is, Bart Gunn and Bob Holly, with a manager cutting their promos, could have been a passable tag team act for that era, but calling them the Midnight Express doomed them from day 1.

I used to be hardcore rasslin fan but it's LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE to watch whole episodes of WCW from October 99 to October 2000. And I didn't think it was possible but TNA in 2003 was worst. Like I said last year I tried watching early TNA and I couldn't do it. I made it from January to March 2003 and I had to stop because it was the worst shit I've ever seen.

I didn’t mind the NWA angle that much at the time, as honestly, the presentation sounds about as competent as a Crash TV era WWF angle can be when you break it down and analyze it. Even then you basically knew they weren’t trying to present the group as a threat to Austin, but like a lot of Attitude era stuff, it sounds like something that if you took it out of the context of that loaded show and put on TV in today’s climate would probably have a better result because of the way the show is structured. Back then, it was all short matches and onto the next angle.
Agreed they totally dropped the ball on Severn. I could see him and Corny working in a Brock/Heyman like way if they showed a bit of restraint with him.
WWF was full of those rushed 2 minute matches, so the NWA thing kind of blended with the rest of the blah.

I loved the "NWA Invasion" in WWF angle of 1998. I couldn't get enough of it. I even had my buddy tape "Shotgun Saturday Night" so that I could see it. I had been done watching the WWF's programming (for years) until the NWA Invasion angle made me a regular viewer again. I stopped watching the WWF again after the NWA and Severn left, and I have never started watching that promotion's new material again. I also thought that the New Midnight Express were good NWA World tag team champions. I always thought that Cornette had a lot to do with those, and I always gave him credit where credit was due, but if Cornette doesn't want credit for some great stuff...
I also liked the NWA invasion too just unfortunately most matches were shit on by the wwf live fans chants of boring and silence most matches was met by ....its sad

Truth be told,I have ALWAYS been a WWE fan and ALWAYS choose WWE over any other company cuz my grandfather and father got me watching wrestling as a kid and we went to many WWE/WWF shows in the late 70's and throughout the 80s...BUT....I recall watching Cornette and the Midnight Express (Eaton and Condrey) against the Rock N Roll express, and I was instantly hooked!!!! Cornette and Midnight Express were cool heels, Cornette did his all to help his team win, and that horrific looking fall off the scaffold against the Road Warriors (in 96 I believe, so I was 10 or 11) REALLY made me respect Cornette even more at such a young age. Aside from The Brain, Mouth of the South Jimmy Hart, the Grand Wizard and Captain Lou which were in the WWF/WWE, Cornette was the VERY FIRST performer/manager that DIDN'T work with WWE that I ABSOLUTELY looked forward to see on EVERY show EVERY week... His intensity, mic skills, tenacity, and overall aura, has made me a fan of Cornette's since the first time I saw him, which was the early 80's since I was born in 75... Long live Cornette.... BTW, IF Russo outlives you, Cornette, I WILL PISS/SHIT on Russo's grave for you, as long as I'M still alive!!! I give you my word!!!! I'm embarrassed to know he's from NYC, we're not ALL Cornette!!! Lol idc how old i am, if I'm able to EVEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRR start a wrestling company, Cornette (and Heyman) would be the guys I leave in charge, mostly Corvette considering how he and I agree on so many things about today's product!!! I was at that Fayetteville show. It was my first wrestling event ever and I still remember the New Midnight Express. Two drunks got in a fight during Rock and HHH’s match and Rock got on the mic to berate the crowd for not paying attention to him.
I bet that was a hell of a roast especially since Rock was a heel at the time.
