What are your thoughts about the new range? And anything you’d like to see tested? 🎉
I feel that it has a lack of high chroma colours. Pro acryl and tt combat have the same issue. Focus on opacity leads to desaturated colours. Even looking at them just coming out the box I’m looking and going “lot of white in there” desaturated colours and pastels.
One thing I always think is an absolute requirement in a set of paints is your primaries in as pure a form as possible.

Orange toned red
Blue toned red / magenta.
Red toned ,Egg yolk yellow
Blue toned greeny Safety vest yellow
Red purple toned blue
Green turquoise toned blue.
These should be highest chroma possible. Ie no white added or opposite colour wheel added.
Wonder if you could look out from the starter set which covers these if any and let us see them thanks.

Since I bought the complete old range and have since switched to AK 3rd gen - maybe test if mixing the new fanatic medium into old warpaints fixes them....😂

Sam Lenz working with and using them is probably the biggest endorsement of this new line of paints. He's not exactly your corporate shill type of guy.

I really hope they sell them in the sets of 6 per range. that would be ideal as a small gift for someone or if you build your collection step by step
Great idea!
I was hoping they might go down this route, whether that be a small box containing 1 of the colour groups or a bigger one containing several (eg all of the blue or green sets).

@@christophermurphy2408 The starter set could be good for trying out the paints, but by only having limited colours it doesn't demonstrate the triad system. I think what we're getting at is Army Painter possibly doing a box containing one or two complete sets of triads

In the (way longer than I want to admit) time I’ve been painting I’ve tried a lot of paint. I still have old GW pints, P3, AP War Paints, minitaire and most recently speedpaint 2.0. I use them all and think my go-to when not speedpaint is warpaint or p3 depending on the colour I need. If the fanatic range is analogous to the warpaint range but with better coverage, I’ll give it a shot as existing colours run out.

I’m glad to hear you think it will help. Didn’t like putting words in peoples mouths when i have no colour issues myself! But I think they have just made painting so much more accessible for the world!
@@WatchItPaintIt I used the speedpaint 2.0 and believe me, it helps A LOT. And now with the flexible triad icons, it really sealed the deal for me as a must get.

I'll probably add a few colors that closely match a color some companies have stopped producing. I also always liked AP's washes even if they dried glossy, do the new batch dry glossy or do they have a matte finish like their speed paints?
I just pre-ordered the entire paint range box set, which comes out in March, so am definitely looking forward to painting my minis with the new range.
I LOVE their speed paint range, and that's what made me drop a shed load of money on the pre-order deal for the big full range set :-)

@@JohnVanderbeck Crap! A lot of sites are now showing release dates in mid March (15-16 / 3). I was hoping they would come sooner.
I thought I read preorder in January released late January early February. I am guessing they are receiving so many orders that this may have pushed the date back… I just wish you could order more of their warpaints medium as they say not to use water to thin their paints due the amount of pigments
@@steveisaak4320 Yeah but what has me annoyed i like I said I was signed up on TAP's website to be notified of pre-orders, and I never was. Now they're getting massively backordered and they never even contacted me about the pre-orders I signed up for? Bad taste.

I love the army painter rust. It’s the best orange I’ve ever used; it covers great, and if thinned a lot, it creates a great rust effect.
The original? Man maybe I’m using it wrong. I’ve never understood how it’s not just a dull orange!!
I might have to buy this set after completing pro acryl.
This is me right now. I can’t work out whether to try just get colours that might be gaps in pro acryl or not
@vee_tinymoose I'd say, get colors for a test mini. I recommend the starter bundle or just go to a local shop that sells em individually.
@@triplet7788 thanks 😊 I think I am happy to do that because with this set they’ve made it so you can get other sets without so much doubling up. I’m still frustrated that I pre-ordered the 2.0 mega set and then afterwards they launched the complete set. Now there is no good way to fill the gaps without either doubling up or paying more to buy individually 🙁

Preordered the mega set, looking forward to it having recently got into Army Painter with the impressive SpeedPaint 2.0 most wanted set. I asked on the book of faces and they said they're looking into releasing triad sets as well as singles which would be handy.
I can’t wait for these to come out. I’ll end up getting this set vs the complete. Price tag is high but the value is worth it.
Yeah it’s really expensive to drop the whole kit isn’t it :( but I will definitely get the use out of it

I can't wait for the release of this set. I picked the wrong time to start painting again. Now I have to wait for the release to start collecting my paint set. I just hope its not to long between "pre-order" and release date.
I've got a metric assload of Bardsung and Shadows of Brimstone models I just recently got that are eagerly waiting for the Fanatic line to be released - and probably some speed paints too if I ever want to get them all painted up. Really looking forward to checking them out when us plebs can get our hands on them!

I was constantly wondering if those examples of "bright colors covering pure black" AP kept showing off were maybe actually more layers than the video implied, some editing magic, maybe "let's stop filming before the paint actually dries and loses the saturation", so seeing you reconstruct those examples with all the bright, vibrant paints - especially yellow and pink - is honestly stunning. Not to suspect Army Painter of shady advertising, but when you see results this good, extreme scepticism is warranted regardless of your opinion of the company. Happily surprised that the results really are that good, although my inner sceptic still wonders if that will apply to *all* of the shades.
Now my remaining question about Fanatics is, how do they work with an airbrush? And are they in line, color-wise, with the AP Warpaints Air? Those are really nice airbrush paints, so it would be just slightly disappointing if they weren't 1:1 with the new lineup.
They need to go to jail for all the time we wasted shaking their original line of paints. 😆
And applying layer after layer because the coverage is barely better than craft paint
I *think* these don’t need as much shaking. However, do you really know until the paints have sat on the shelf for a couple of months? :D but from the brand new box, I’ve only had to shake them a normal amount :-)
@WatchItPaintIt I'm always collecting paint of my favorite color (burgundy wine color) so I'll check those out eventually if my local gets them.
Moving to the frozen north has taught me to not rely on product that will freeze in the mail 6 months out of the year.

I just picked up one of their speedpaint 2.0 sets and think that storage shelf thing would be great. Do they plan to sell that separately?
I think you can expect to see a big expansion on storage solutions at some point!
Just in case you don't know, you can already pick up shelves like that from many other producers like Tabletop Combat etc.

@@WatchItPaintIt normaly i eatche waht coms out, i try to cause i love your charnel. I mostly used speedpaint, i bought the most wanted and now i nearly have 2/3 off the ranged, love it. I still used some mettait couloirs from army painter :)
Hi Ben. The triad system is what sold these to me. Unfortunately the triad system only fully come in the big box at over £500. Don't think I can justify that in one go lol. I will however pick up a few to add to collection Commission painting eats your collection.
That triad system is so cool. You’d think I know what colour I need for what by now but the number of times I pick the wrong tone green to do the highlights and then have to fix my mess! I can’t imagine how useful this would be to a brand new painter! It’s a game charger for the entry level. It’s kind of funny how long it’s taken to come about, in hindsight, it seems a no brainier.
Oh man, I totally understand, I must own 1000s of paints, so I’m well aware how much I must have spent :$ but the idea of £500 in one go still seems crazy :-D would be hard to stomach even if I knew it was right. Where do I find your commissions? Might be nice to own something you’ve painted :$

I find the vallejo ever so slightly thick. I know you’re supposed to thin your paints but I ain’t got time for that :-D so I prefer the fanatics as I can use them out the bottle :O they weaker colours seemed so good in this range too. The vallejo colours don’t need a primer so they always have that up their sleeve for me so will still get some use as the paints are very good! Just I think these are easier and more accessible.
It’s my understanding that Army Painter will have some storage solutions coming up this year :O

Vallejo works so well on the wet palette but I think I might have to do a cull on my other paints. I reckon my local charity shops are going to have a large stock of miniature paints coming their way.
Whats gonna be real crazy is in about 2 years theyre coming out with a new better line of paints and we will buy those too

I don't think that's going to happen. I mean, it took us 15 years to revisit Warpaints. ;)
Rightly or wrongly Army Painter don't have the best reputation but what they do have, as someone from the UK, is the best availability compared to other brands. So I'm hoping they live up to the hype. Not sure I'll jump in with one of the big sets though (I've plenty of washes and metallics to keep me going) so instead I'll pick up a few of the 6 colour sets to try out.

Loving this review 👏. Few questions for you chap. Do the lighter colours sit on top of the more pigmented darker colours ok? I.e. do the lighter layer colours stay the original colour or do they settle back/tint into the colour below? Do other brands of paint work with them ok? Do they glaze well? I have everything crossed these new paints are great and that AP sell the colour groups in sets. Keep up the good work chap 👍👏👌😊
Lighter colours go on top nicely. I thinned them and built up layers to get my highlights. But if I don’t thin them that can easily cover the under colour (obv some colours need mutli coats if the base is dark). Glazing works well! I use glaze medium, not tried it with just water but I spilt wayyyy too much in the video when I was showing they thin well, and while I didn’t try it that glaze looked really good. Haven’t tried with other brands yet, I don’t see any issue but I will definitely double check. Also has no issue with primed/not primed minis. The paint took well. Varnishing worked no issues too. I did *think* maybe the paint rubs off a little easy BUT I rarely paint with acrylics anymore, so it might just be normal? Something I definitely need to keep an eye on tho

@@keithburden7191I think the new washes might be the same as the old. I need to ask them but I’ve not noticed any difference! I like citadel shades and army painters washes, army painter just feels a bit simpler and easier to use for me. Like just slap on either black, dark brown or light brown and jobs done :D I actually own ALL of citadels and never really use them :/ even though I’d say I like them, I just never bother finding the one I want :D

Can someone in the know please advise - how do the fanatic range match up against the Vallejo Model/Game colour paints? Getting a starter paint set, and was all planned to get the Vallejo Model Color box. The good reviews on this Fanatic range now has me wondering if a change should be considered...
I have both. I actually rather like my Vallejo game colour range a lot. But I do prefer the new fanatic range. I’m lazy, I like how the fanatic range comes out ready to roll, I rarely thin my paints when I’m using Army Painter. It has good coverage without the thickness. One thin coat does the job for me

If I want to use up an old war paint bottle, what happens if you mix them with the new fanatic paint of the same name, e.g. barbarian flesh?
It’s a good question! Maybe you can improve the old paint enough and get the mileage out the old bottle. I’ll try it out!

@@WatchItPaintIt it's all good, was actually on my tv. Could be the balancing on my end I just tried listening to it on my phone and it sounds fine so it may not be on your end so I'm not sure. It's possible that at low listening volumes the music kind of takes over on just my TV

Have you tested out the white and is it a good creamy white and have good coverage on the white paint?
I have used it, I had no complaints but I need to use it more! I found it very bright, and had the same consistency of the other colours

Any idea how they airbrush? i mainly paint Gundam models, and i really dont dont wanna deal with more toxic paints with kids and pets in the house.

What are the dimensions of the paint stand?
Seeing this set made me realize that I actually don't want it anymore. Either I have good enough versions of those colors and would just get duplicates or it comes with colors I don't really want or have any use for, it feel a bit too different from my pallet and how I paint. The new range still looks good though so I'll probably just pick up a few individual paints or triads instead :)

How does it perform through an airbrush?
I don’t think I can give that test the experience it deserves. I’m only just learning airbrushing and am not very good yet! I would expect it needs thinning though, it’s a lot thicker than the air range

Yes they do! I nearly mentioned it but all of their paints do these days

In 2012 the fanatics would be good. Today.....lol. They will sell their usual boxes to beginners who dont listen to "dont buy complete sets" and thats it. But sure.....according to the not anymore ceo thats now the BEST PAINTRAGE EVER. *laughs in pro acryl*

Army painters old range sucked and didn't cover well. Its going to take a lot of convincing for me to move off of Pro Acryl.

Not sure about jail but they're certainly off my Christmas list - I stocked up on a number of their spray cans a few years ago and the majority of them leaked the propellant, making them useless. AP advised that the cans have a shelf live of 5 years although this is not stated on the cans I purchased. I've never had this problem with other manufacturers. Be warned.....
Oh damnn! That sucks! I have a shelf full of them too and had many for 5 years now - no issues of yet! I did pierce a brand new one once and paint sprayed EVERYWHERE!
