Love the naming on the bottles. It’s so sorely needed in the mini painting space. Artists have a common language they can use when it comes to paint names (cadmium red, burnt umber, phthalo blue etc.) while we’re stuck with daft fantasy/sci-fi names. I see so many new painters asking ‘what paints do I need to paint this model?’ The answer should be simple. Look at the model and select the colours you see ie. Dark red, light green, etc. ProAcyril has been pretty good with this, now with AP hopefully we’ll see more brands do similar.
That's not entirely true about the naming conventions though. It is somewhat true when they are aimed at Fantasy/Sci-Fi painters, but if you look at the Vallejo Model Colour/Panzer Aces range, the MIG colours, even the old Tamiya range you get "Nato black-grey", "Japanese uniform", "RAF mid sea grey" etc straight out of the bottle because they are trying to replicate something from real life. The colour triads thing isnt new either - Reaper used to do it, foundry did too, and it's common in "modulation effect" airbrush paints for planes and tanks. Not throwing shade at all - even though I mostly paint things in shades of brown and green and I have no use for glowing nuclear vomit effects I'll be trying out lots of stuff from this range.
As someone who is colorblind, the label thing is great. I'm not going to have to have my wife describe what kind of color she thinks 'clouded sea' is supposed to be for me anymore.
DUDE SAME. Thank you. My wife has to be so involved with my paint selection. Also love when painting tutorials tell exactly what army painter/citadel they used, it’s so essential for me.
I also lean on my wife (whos an actual artist) for these things, "sayin hey pick out the colors i'm going to need to get this effect, pls" I kinda doubt the little color bar is going to help a lot tho cause of...tone? Some hues already look the same to me but if some hues that i can normal tell apart have the same tone i can be blind to that as well.
I could see myself maybe trying out some of the effects paints, the extra flavor crystals is an interesting concept. I also like that they have fresh and old versions of a lot of them (especially the blood and rust). It's nice to see AP really taking a big swing at upping their game. Will definitely be interesting to see what the wider reaction to these are once they're in the wild.
I grew up in the states, and now back home in Denmark. Been hobbying for years and only discovered in the last 3 years they are a Danish company, I've talked to other Danes that have been in the hobby here locally for decades and they never knew til I mentioned it. It seems The Army Painter is also committed to these Danish Ideals, not only rapid iteration of their products, but seem to engage and listen to the hobby community. Pretty awesome!
Wow Adam this looks great! You can almost see how excited you are during this video talking of these now paints. It's real nice you got the chance to preview this new paint range.
Outstanding overview, really looking forward to seeing more of the effect paints, and the new labelling package is interesting and a great move forward
I'm a Vallejo guy, currently, as I still have lots of their paints left from when I built scale models. But I can see myself slowly replacing VMC colors with these ones here, or buying colours I don't have (yet). If they're as good or better than, say, AK 3rd Gen (of which I have but a few), and with better availability, it's a no-brainer! Certainly the effects and washes that you demonstrated here are worth it because they look excellent! Can't wait.
Why would you replace Vallejo? Their Game Color line I assume? Their Model Color line is unmatched for realistic colors, I don't think even these Army Painter new ones can match it. For fantasy, sure... I'm experimenting with speedpaints myself.
@@theandf I'm replacing Vallejo with Army Painter. Ive used Vallejo since I moved country & had to rebuy everything. Im not impressed at all. They are dull & very easily get over diluted on wet pallete. Im going back to Army Painter, their colours are brighter & so don't turn to grey with washes. Maybe everyone just has a preference, I found citadel pretty good but I hate the pots so much.
@@theandf I use Model Color, not Game Color, and yes, their range is excellent in terms of realism. But I find their color swatches (pdf, website) quite "off" a lot of the times, so finding the right color is very often hit and miss! AP's triad system seems quite promising in that regard.
@@revylokesh1783 thanks for the reply. I love Model Color but I agree about the swatches. Actually this is currently a problem for me with Speed Paints 2.0: I cannot get the hang of the colors. The paint looks different to the label on the pot. Some TH-camrs like Dana Howl resort to painting the caps of the bottles as a reminder, but it seems wasteful, plus I'm lazy.
Availability is such a huge factor for me. Every store near me has AP stuff so if some single colors on the rack are missing I can hop around a few locations trying to track it down. Only two stores in like 100km of me carries pro-acryl on the other hand. I really like pro-acryl but it's not easy for me to get. Vallejo is more prevalent for me but their range is so utterly massive between their air lines, metal colour, game colour, model colour, FX paints, and primers that the odds of a store having all the racks and also have them have stock is low. Either way, I'm not a paint loyalist. I'll prime in pro-acryl, layer with vallejo, use a GW contrast for hair, wash with AP, and use AK for effects after.
This exactly the kind of product I want. Just a comprehensive collection of any paint I could need. No decision paralysis over which paints to buy or what scheme would work with my paints just freedom
They still got it wrong, but at least they didn't fall into the stereotyped "radiation glows green" myth -- that's the result of conflating the color of the _phosphor_ in radium dials with glow emitted directly from the radioactive elements; if you do an image search for "water pool reactor", you'll see that the radiation coming off the reactor core is a turquoise glow, not a green one. Fortunately, the 'plasma glow' color covers that.
This Army Painter evolution has made me want to buy their entire line from Air paint to Speed Paint 2.0. I love the different color caps on the bottles to separate the ranges.
Their Air Paint line is my absolutely favorite, and Speed Paint 2.0 is untouchable. They're the only thing I buy now, except for my precious Vallejo Model Color, and a few AK paints.
The info opn the labels is enough for me to buy it as a colour blind person. Whilst vallejo ranges are mostly easy enough to work out, I struggle with colour hues in terms of building up colour - layers, highlights etc. These bottles look like they'll solve a lot of my issues.. Hate the current range of AP paints but this looks great.
OMG! THANK YOU Army painter!! About time someone labled the bottles with a little more info! I LOVE it! I was going to go out and buy a lot of paint and replenish my supplies... But I'll think I'll wait and pre ordering this set! :D
I love the fact they have a complete set like this, but at 700+ dollars its kind of ridiculous cost point all at one go. And that does not even include the Speed Paints that so many people would want in connection to the new Fanatic line. Also to be fair you're not buying these you are being granted access to this set for free, so consider that in your review. Ahh the benefits of being a influencer. ;) Yes the bottle labels are nice, also the 6 paints in their trifecta sets is pretty cool. They really thought about this new set and it shows... they may now be the top dog in the hobby. With this number of paints I will have to buy them in stages, I am not sure if they will have sets that allow me to buy them in steps without buying doubles or triples of some colors. This is a great review of the paints... like I said Army Painter may of just taken the top spot in the hobby with this and the Speed paints 2.0. From big cans of stain and dipping models to this great new Fantastic line. Well Deserved Army Painter, GOOD WORK!
I've tried three of the new fanatics and they have great coverage. Please note that several of the AP colored metallics, which are my favorites, are being discontinued. It's worth stocking up. (elven armor etc.)
Awesome! I have been looking for a sepia wash ever since Games Workshop decided they wanted to get out of the wash market and replaced their line with sludge.
From the reviews I've seen on the new Warpaints: Fanatic line I am planning on ordering the complete set. One thing that has really stood out to me across all the reviews I've watched is the added value found within their flexible triad system. Where traditional triads are just three color tones having their color tones in groups of six is great for a number of reasons. First as many have pointed out within that six color tone grouping you'll actually be getting four triads. I also like the fact that all six tones can be used to make smooth gradients. Another thing that seems possible with this flexible triad system that I don't recall having been mentioned is there seems to be a lot of forgiveness for accidentally applying the wrong shade. For example say your using the number four blue as your mid tone but you accidentally grab and apply the number three blue where there doesn't appear to be huge shifts in tonality between tones adjacent to each other it seems that will allow some leeway especially for those who are new to miniature painting.
With all the current offers out there, and very good products, it is quite interesting to see these paints as a good contender. Will have to wait and see. Bold statement to say these are some of your favorites!
Whole, this Army Painters boxset set has a lot of painting options for your models. These ones I'll have to give a try early next year. Thank you for the video and have a Merry Christmas!
Definitely gearing up for all their paints. The only qualm I have is the HUGE gap between the Complete and Mega set. It's either go big or go huge with no step in-between. Reaper at least broke their set into three boxes for ease of upgrading one's collection.
The Mega set and the Most Wanted set have no overlap in colors - therefor you could get one and then get the other one later and keep adding without getting the same color twice. Thanks for watching!
Army Painter is raising the bar with a lot of this. Simply doing the family groupings and descriptive naming is going to change a lot of how I purchase and use paints. Also, the effects paints are going to change a lot as well.
im beyond hyped for this line of paints. I'm what I like to call "color confused" and really hope the "family of paints will be available or at least it be easy to find out the whole set to purchase individually. I'm actually tempted to pre order the big box and just be done with it. But man thats some serious cash! I'm at least going to get one of the less expensive boxes when they are out.
I'm sorely tempted to add theses to the painting arsenal and perhaps retire some of my GW paints. Very interested in picking some up in the future to test drive. I hear their new yellows are sublime. Perfect for getting my Hawkshroud Knight project back on it's feet.
Explicit labels are going to change my partially colorblind life with the hobby. I used to paint the lid and write the paint name on the lid too (and I will probably continue), but not needing to ask my wife or my kids what’s the best match to a particular result will be awesome. My guess is I will start with 2 to 3 tones in each colour group because with the whole thing the transition will probably be too subtle for my eyes, but at least I will now have the choice, regarding my own disability. And that is REALLY amazing, thank you AP !
Good video. It’s been long enough since I’ve sat at the painting desk that many of my GW paint pots are likely dry and crusty. I might start over with this box.
Thanks for a great overview of this huge range and showing the possibilities. I don't get to see the Twitch to often so a demo video would be great. Also "very unique" ... tisk Uncle Atom. 😂
I am very excited about this product line. It looks really good, the reviews are all positive, and being able to have one manufacturer for all my mini paint needs is just... Nice?
Their colour system, correct colour coding and colour graph is actually pure brilliance and I can see that being a very good selling point for this new range.
Really nice overview of the new products. I am glad to see AP revising their main opaque paint. Hopefully it will continue to be relatively inexpensive. At least when compared with GW paint. I really like the AP SpeedPaint, that v2 update really fixed any issues with the V1 products.
Im really excited for this set. I will be getting the big 216 set, I will be replacing all of my paint with this. I loved the concepts of army painter in the past but I didn't feel like they were very good, they just didn't cover well enough but Im stoked for this set.
Helpful review, thank you. Will definitely give these a try. I am really impressed with the Speedpaint 2.0 and still trying to improve the way I use the metallic Speedpaints. It looks like I will need to make many of the Vallejo paints redundant.
I'm curious to try these out for my next project. 🙂 I've been searching everywhere for a goblin green replacement that covers well, maybe I'll find it with these new paints.
What an awesome video Adam and a great overview. As both a hobbyist and a retailer I am so excited for this release. They look absolutely phenomenal. Of all the paints you mentioned the two I’m most jazzed for are Death Metal which (correct me if I’m wrong) looks like a metallic black. When I first started painting miniatures (back when George H.W. Bush was President) I always did my bolters with a metallic black which has been so hard to find since GW axed it from their original paint line. The other is oil slick as I used to use Typhus Corrosion all the time but it is nearly impossible to find now. So it’s nice to see an alternative in another main range.
I'm so upset, two days before they announced this line I said in a conversation "I think I'm set paint wise, I don't need anymore." Looking forward to grabbing them up.
I'm hopeful and excited that it can offer similar results to Vallejo at more convenient locations for me. I've really been wanting lots of color variety for any project I might want to do.
The triad system in the fanatic paints is very appealing to a beginner like myself. Looking forward to videos teaching how to use it for shading and adding depth & detail to minis. As right now I'm still in the stage of single layer of acrylic's with a wash.
What a turn around from Army Painter. From low to mid tier paints to top tier. My whole wrack is Monument and Army Painter now (with a few other specifics scattered in).
Very keen on these. I like that the "Most Wanted" set really does give a variety of colors, and the new effects paints are quite promising. I've been quite happy with the metallic speedpaints so far, so I reckon that he Warpaint metallics should also be quite good.
Great video. I’m super excited for these. The paint labels are brilliant, and I don’t know why nobody has thought of that before! Also, the dark rust and plasma gun glow look phenomenal, I can see this range being a big hit. Between this new range and the TTC stuff, it’s a good time to be a mini painter!
Swords and Brushes channel did a test ("Are these going to be THE BEST paints for miniature painters going forward?") and they seemed to work really well.
I haven’t tried that yet - honestly, I just stick to the airbrush paints from The Army Painter because I don’t have to thin them. I’ve actually never tried thinning ANY regular paint to put through an airbrush since the first time (it didn’t go well) and I only used Vallejo airbrush paints and then switched to Army Painter Air paints when they came out. Thanks for watching!
After having used the new Speedpaint 2.0 line extensively for my last couple of projects, I'm very excited to get my hands on this new Fanatic set! Army Painter have been killing it lately!
I see my favorite 4 go to colors made it in … Angel Green, Uniform Gray, Leather Brown, and Skeleton Bone … I swear I have financed the R and D for Speed Paints with all my purchases of those 4 colors throughout the years
They look great. I've been using Army Painter for quite a while and find their paints good to great for my painting styles and skill level. When I eventually get more paint, I'm sure this will be one of the options I consider.
I started painting miniatures with army painter, but later i switched to Scale 76 paints on a whim. Im mighty tempted to try some fanatic paint and see how they compare.
Holy!! did not know this was a thing! I always found Army Painters to be hit-or-miss, some were great and others were very watery or weak (unsure if it was age of bottle or manufacture quality etc) but this is exciting. I've used a lot of their stuff as layer paints and loved it for its price
I was glad to see that, too. The cap color differences are really great for a person who keeps too many paint bottles on their desk. Thanks for watching!
Writing the actual colour on the bottle is such a huge step forward. It's such a simple improvement but so helpful.
Dab some of the colour on top of the bottle cap. Makes it much easier to spot them among the sea of white.

I went all in for Pro Acryl this year but these look tempting. I don’t know if I can justify even more paints. Naming convention is fantastic.

As a Scandinavian, it’s so nice to see Army painter take over!
I've got the mega set on pre-order through my local hobby store. I am pretty stoked, loving AP's newer products.
I am very excited about this product line. It looks really good, the reviews are all positive, and being able to have one manufacturer for all my mini paint needs is just... Nice?
That colour family and gradient guide is brilliant and a little bit annoying that its only just happening!
Their colour system, correct colour coding and colour graph is actually pure brilliance and I can see that being a very good selling point for this new range.
I love army painter. It upped my mini game for sure.
The Labelling is the biggest innovation here.
I'm really sold on this new line. Great video as always and happy holidays to you all
Really nice overview of the new products. I am glad to see AP revising their main opaque paint. Hopefully it will continue to be relatively inexpensive. At least when compared with GW paint. I really like the AP SpeedPaint, that v2 update really fixed any issues with the V1 products.
Big fan of TAP, looking forward to playing wit these once my current bottles start running low.
These look great. I'm all-in on ProAcryl so not sure I'll get the opaque paints, but I'm grabbing those effect paints ASAP!
Im really excited for this set. I will be getting the big 216 set, I will be replacing all of my paint with this. I loved the concepts of army painter in the past but I didn't feel like they were very good, they just didn't cover well enough but Im stoked for this set.
I’ve always been a citadel guy, still am. I did try out about a dozen and I am enjoying them. Pretty good control…
Great overview! I'm really looking forward to this line coming out.
Helpful review, thank you. Will definitely give these a try. I am really impressed with the Speedpaint 2.0 and still trying to improve the way I use the metallic Speedpaints. It looks like I will need to make many of the Vallejo paints redundant.
I look forward to trying a few of these new paints. That being said, there are so many to choose from!
I'm curious to try these out for my next project. 🙂 I've been searching everywhere for a goblin green replacement that covers well, maybe I'll find it with these new paints.
I am looking forward to these - I don't think I need the "everything" box but will probably get one of the larger sets.
I can't wait... I'm really hyped for these paints!
Thanks for the review, I know what's going on my wish list.
I'm excited for the effects. I haven't been able to get my hands on Blood for the Blood God or Nurgle Rot and now I've found a replacement
Another great show again, thank you so much and keep them coming please!
Really? We will see, this is just one review.
@@1AngelAlita even their current line up of speed paints is really good.
@@denegraMaybe. But I use only regularl paints.
Very keen on these. I like that the "Most Wanted" set really does give a variety of colors, and the new effects paints are quite promising. I've been quite happy with the metallic speedpaints so far, so I reckon that he Warpaint metallics should also be quite good.
I look forward to testing these out I love their air line.
Definitely looking forward to checking out these, more good competition is always good
I have a pile of minis waiting for these new paints!
I've been waiting for this set since I saw it on their website. This is so cool! (Not that I NEED more paints, but I definitely want them)
I am so torn if I should buy this... How do the regular Fanatic colors perform through an airbrush?
Swords and Brushes channel did a test ("Are these going to be THE BEST paints for miniature painters going forward?") and they seemed to work really well.
I really haven't had an issue putting any miniature paint through an airbrush. I'm not sure why these wouldn't work either.
@@heniv181 Thanks will check it out.
Thanks for the great overview of the whole set, I just pre-ordered it :D
I'm in love with the speed paint line.
I picked up the new metallics box and a bunch of the new fanatics and the difference from the old warpaints is incredibly vast!
Really excited for those Effects paints! Will be my first buy when they get to local stores
After having used the new Speedpaint 2.0 line extensively for my last couple of projects, I'm very excited to get my hands on this new Fanatic set! Army Painter have been killing it lately!
I got the 3 color sample kit from AP and was pretty excited about these paints, but those effects and metallics have me feeling things now.
Those new effects paints are exciting and I'm glad to see that they have given them their own unique cap color.
I was glad to see that, too. The cap color differences are really great for a person who keeps too many paint bottles on their desk. Thanks for watching!
@@tabletopminions Watching your stuff is a no brainer! Thank you for all you do.
Hehehe, I'm lookin at them metalics under my microscope :-) keep paintin atom, keep paintin!
This is awesome! So excited for this to come out!
