That was really good! Detailed strategy breakdown without spending twenty minutes on commentary and personal opinion discussion like so many other videos seem to dig into. I'm going to reference this for my own Lex build. Also MAPLESTORY MUSIC AT THE END!

Bro, I'm 70 hours in and I STILL use Joseph on occasion. I was really struggling early game on Expert, until I caved and started using the OP grandpa to clean house. Still use him as a support unit from time to time. Nice vid, tho!

Have you done the battle where you’re forced to deploy Joseph and the Roseknights? That one slapped me in the mouth hard because it screwed up a few of my squads. I also didn’t have any squad ideas for Joseph so that one was really aggravating to get through for all the wrong reasons lol. Also I greatly appreciate you checking out the vid!

Are you going to do videos for other characters?

Lex does one thing really well and is still out classed in that one thing by other characters who are not nearly as pigeonholed which is why lex is bad.. Virginia for example get's two shields allowing her to counter nearly any offense sent at her. even generic great shield users can tank just as well as lex can. while Shield Bearers specifically can not only wall offense but come with smoke and are archers effectively dealing with two large threats at once in addition to Physical Damage (Assists and Flying Units)

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I disagree because the value of being able to essentially control an enemies actions with provoke is huge. There’s no need to wall an enemies actions or waste passive points covering if enemies are focusing their attacks on a single unit. It’s like giving the player a simpler option for battlefield control. I actually love Virginia hands down she is one of my favorite units in the game so I feel your love for her. But can she make an entire row of enemies focus all of their attacks on her? Frankly from my experience if she could she would die. It’s kind of unrealistic to expect a character with like 5 abilities to perform as good as the one with 10 but everyone has their place.
With that said if you want to take battle skills into account I feel like provoke has it’s uses over smokebolt but I know smokebolt would be generally more useful. My personal problem with the shieldbearer is that I have trouble deciding if I want to them to be a support or an offensive carry because from my own experience it feels like trying to do both doesn’t work all that well (I know that tactic pages can be set but I don’t really care to use them). As a single unit by himself yes Lex sucks but it’s a team building game and he can make a great piece in the right spot. I can’t put Lex where I have Virginia and I can’t put Virginia where I have Lex the squads just wouldn’t work anymore. Anyways thanks again for sharing your thoughts I always appreciate a different perspective.

@@corvieindo the thing about that is. you have GENERLALY enough better tanks that lex is never going to see play. Virginia Barengaria (who hits everyone's attacks and inititive) Mordon Kitra Alain (who can block any attack coming functionally the same as provoke) Bernice theres just no reason to field more then like 2-4 teams in a battle and unless every one of your teams requires 2+ tanks Lex is just not worth bringing hell his provoke is actually bad on teams where you want damage to be spread out (mass heal teams or teams that heal to near full after a combat) as provoke just get's him killed really fast against anything that can break through
The one upside i see to provoke is making sure there's no one behind him so he draws column attacks which is super niche.

All I’m saying is in my experience Lex has served me well. I pair him with Hilda both on the frontline, between the two of them they’re usually able to soak up anything that comes their way (along with some support from the back). I feel like he just pairs really well with other off tanks like Featherswords or Swordmasters. Someone’s who’s not going to really going to get hit but if they do they can be covered.
I also like that defender boosts his physical defense by 50% and generates pp. I’m pretty sure the defense boost stacks as well. I’ve seen him get really tanky. Honestly if fighters weren’t armored I feel like they would be almost too strong because they basically have no weaknesses outside of breakers and magic units but magic units are easy to get around. Not to mention arrow cover is really good because it just negates the damage.
Yes I agree I usually only have 2-4 squads deployed but Lex is in one of them and it does well. Again I’m not denying there’s better tanks, He’s just really flexible and I like that about him. Maybe give him another chance? Otherwise we’ll just have to agree to disagree.

@@corvieindo But why are you using Hilda as a tank. shes an attacker even without the dragoon spear and a row cleaver either nuking the entire field with one attack or melting through armored units with flame breath.
See this is my problem with your video your making a case for using Lex but to do so your playing badly just to include him.
Hilda is one of the strongest units in the game and with reins shes fast too and your making her play DEFENSE when inititive wins battles and Hilda is one of the best attackers in the game.

Well when I say off tank I mean the fact that that they have good defensive capabilities that when paired with something you consider niche like Lex makes them viable units to have on the frontline.
flyers have intrinsic natural evasion against ground units and the thing is I am row nuking with Hilda I do in fact have the reins on her for the initiative she uses the lightning shaker typically(or whatever it’s called) to stun an entire row while I have Lex provoke the one that isn’t stunned and then I have primm active heal and Chloe active gift in order to do more lightning attacks and since it’s mixed damage it usually is capable of one rounding squads but if you want I can explain the rest of my tactics since you’ll probably assume I don’t have Chloe use any attacks.
I was only talking about the character and how they can pair well with something else. Not about entire squads. I never mentioned my tactics for Hilda so I don’t understand how you can attack them lol. You want me to be wrong so bad that you’ll just assume I’m playing like an idiot. Would you like me to post some gameplay of the squad because I have it?
