  • True Zenoiran Difficulty is a harder setting beyond Expert mode. It has a few features that make it a little harder than expert mode but overall I find it needs to be made harder.

    My gripe with expert difficulty is that it's kind of like hard on FE. It's difficult enough that you can appreciate what could be optimized but ultimately you can just brute force through it. It makes winning feel slightly unearned because I know that there was still damage on the table if I just optimized my tactics a little bit more. And if I built my teams more optimally. But the game didn't require that I play to that level to win. And perhaps the game should require that, after all why build all these complex systems if there is no need to push them to the brink. Nevertheless glad that true zenoiran is real and at least a little harder.

    Your idea on economics, while it’s the first step many developers go to, it would be much easier to go the “tax” route where you increase or decrease the cost by a percentage amount depending on the amount of money the players has. That way certain items would be costly regardless of income. Also having a fixed amount of purchases is good too

    I figured as much. Given what I saw from the 'true' coliseum fights, it seems to me the only way they make the game harder is by buffing enemy units. My True Zenorian comp at endgame is Big Lady, Alain, Renault, Clive, and Sharon. They are the only team I've put together (3 out of the 5 are debuff immune, other two stun immune) that can nearly consistently beat the final coliseum fight and the all angel tank squad (think it's #10?) that are the hardest fights in the game IMO.

    I'm loving the game but, I agree that it needs to be more difficult. Instead of just more difficulties levels however, I think the game would really benefit from "difficulty/gameplay modifiers" like the "XCOM:The Second Wave" menu and similar systems. That way, players can tweak the game for things that are more challenging/fun to them (harsher economy, limited XP, etc). In my case, I would make it so ally units automatically rest when they hit 0 stamina since, I think it's broken that your units can fight endlessly even if their not moving. These settings would also make the game a lot more re-playable since one could make many different custom runs, like your recent homeless and divorced Engage playthrough for example.

      It would be cool that add it eventually if they can afford it. But if vanillaware survives period it would be great already lol.
      The issue with the game is that the game can be very hard or extremely easy depending on how much you use the tools to your advantage. There's so much that can make the game easier but some players might miss it entirely.
      I feel the stamina system is very flawed across the board, I kind of like it on paper but I feel it wasn't the best way to handle it. Maybe have stamina being a resource per unit spent on action instead or something like that. In low difficulties stamina is trivial and in higher it barely starts to be an inconvenience but you can still heavily avoid the issue unless you're going for speed run pace.

    Glad the items are nerfd, definitely trivializing to have access to so many items (the droughts in particular feel cheesey to use). So that change alone should make a few stages more of a challenge.

      @courve coliseum level difficulty would be so cool as an endgame.mode. It's exactly what games need like this need. It's like in pokemon games (the old ones anyways) where you would do battle tower or whatever and actually play against NPCs who have a brain.

  • @Adyen11234

    I mean, you can't really use sellswords to beat impossibility high level stages anymore since you would only have 2 valor points to summon. Pretty sure the economy doesn't work out.

      @@donniecupples6721 It's possible for that one level 40 stage, I guess. It's not possible for the stage Unicorn Overlord since you need to kill 3 mini-bosses beforehand.
      But the limiting factor of 5 item still makes a huge difference there since you would have to spend 1-2 items to block the enemy attack on your base, 1 to speed up yourself, then 1 to increase exp gain so you can push your teams into the mid 30ies (if you're doing it at around level 11-15). That only leave you with 1-2 item in case something goes wrong (unless you restart the stage, maybe?), so the 5 item as well as the lack of valor points is still very much a limiting factor.

    • @kitsunin4690
      @kitsunin4690 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't think it's a real problem that "x only means you will grind more".
      Fine, make the game really hard and give the player the option of grinding as a release valve. The problem as it stands is that merely wanting to experience most of the game's content *at all* makes economy and the game overall very easy.

  • @diegoakadisciple8336
    @diegoakadisciple8336 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

    The time limit is precisely one of the incentives that push the player to just deploy uber squads and just rolfstomp every map. I suddenly can't make a slow push with infantry units and maybe sacrifice / heavily damage some because everything is immediatly put in two categories (optimal and not optimal) just by virtue of the limit itself.

    • @diegoakadisciple8336
      @diegoakadisciple8336 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @@winghong3 In my opinion, if anything garrisons are too slow for healing. They "tick" each 15 seconds or so. And heal for about 4-6 HP. A unit with 40 hp would need 10 ticks to be back in shape, and that is not considering walking time. This is too little considering the time limit for most of the battles, and thus your only real options are items or valor skills.
      Ultimately, apart from items and skills, here is not a good come-back mechanism for a unit that takes heavy damage.
      Now, imagine instead that there's no time limit, but enemy squads take about 3 combats to take out, and there is more and more varied enemy squads overall. And of course the reinforcement mechanic is still in place.
      I find that experience would be overall more tactical and satisfying.
