Why 4 core is enough today : 2 reasons! 1) Intel domined with 4 cores as mainstream standard since 5 years ago, and takes long before developer start using more cores bcs buying new machines and implementing new engines take long time as well. 2) Consolles uses 4 cores apus so any consolle developer usually don't waste time (and money) to optimaze games for more cores . Yes. Obviously, AMD already exposed Intel's laziness since Ryzen 1. With these new cpus AMD is actually trying to be the wiser guy here ; Intel is still in pursuit of more powaaa (or ideas to justify an exorbitant price). No, in fact, this shows how AMD is leading the war for now. It's a low blow that might have perturbed intel in the development of their upcoming I3 processors. I'm 99% sure that Intel was initially going for another 4c/4t cpu thinking AMD would've done the same on these latest R3 chips. If future I3 turn out to be 4c/8t we should thank AMD for that.
It isn't laziness - Intel tried to do a process shrink and a node shrink at the same time and it blew up in their faces. Andy Grove pointed out 20 years ago that, when moving to a new process, you wouldn't know if you failed for 5 years. Intel is having it's "Bulldozer" moment.
@@harrybryan9633 it's not laziness, it's bad management... very bad management inside intel that lead to a failed and delayed node shrink for years. Intel literally just laid off many of it's "blue badge" expensive permanent employee for whatever reason they can find, and replace them with A LOT of cheap "green badge" outsourced employee. Outsourced employees don't give a shit about the company, and if their boss ask "how's it's going?" they'll just answer, "everything is OK boss", and they can answer that nonchalantly because they have little loyalty to the company, and almost no real consequence to face if shit happens, they are just outsourced employee afterall. And what's worse, those in management probably understand nothing anyway, since those in management is no longer real engineers, but they're business graduates. They only understand money, not tech. But the performance of this 3100 made me question my decision, here in Portugal the 1600AF is 100€ and te 3100 will be 82,90€ so for the price its an excellent purchase indeed. I think this will shake the used market a lot. Nonetheless my intention is in the future go for the Ryzen 7 off course so. Cheers mate from a fan in Portugal.
Hi, the Ryzen 5 1600 af is a better choice. You can still overclock it if Single-Core-performance is not enough but if you chose the Ryzen 3 you could never "cheat" extra cores and threads in. In a not far away future you will very likely profit from more threads even in gaming. You will maybe achieve lower average frame rates but the frametimes and therefore the smoothness of the gaming experience will be better. High framerate in gaming is only important if you have a 1080p high framerate monitor and playing competitive multiplayer games. If not a descent CPU from the last 5 years will get the job done with acceptable framerates. 1440p+ will likely be GPU dependant. By the way I regret choosing the Ryzen 5 3600 over the Ryzen 7 2700x since I'm using it for compute heavy tasks.
I have an i7-4770k overclocked to 4.4 Ghz with 16GB of DDR3 2400 and a GTX 1070. This video makes me feel pretty good about it. I would bet its matching the Ryzen 5 1600AF and occasionally the Ryzen 3 3100. I do know that it still performs quite well in current titles. Hopefully I can get another couple years out of it before a totally new system.
a few websites have done this. The Ryzen owns the i7 because AMDs IPC is better. I would not buy an older Intel consumer platform anymore because it maxxes out at 4 cores. Not even if it's cheap. The Ryzen 3 on the other hand can be upgraded up to a 16 core CPU if the VRMs on your board are good.
this reminds me of when i had a Intel G2030 that thing was such a beast I remember playing minecraft on it at 3000 fps guaranteed, and it still holds on some games even today, I have a lot of respect for intel cause of that little guy.
I bought a 3300x with a new (old) A320 board. Got an athlon placeholder to update the bios (when I first got it) and the 3300x/Asus A320i/aegis 2 x 8 (3000) ram setup with a GTX 1050ti OC works like a charm. I really never need anything more. But I have an upgrade path to 3600 if I ever decide I would like more cores and threads for video editing.
Good point on cpu benchmark. Like who tf plays Ashes of the singularity ? But even more so, who tf does pure cpu rendering in blender/premiere, cuda performs way better.
Hey Bryan.. Just wanted to say that you are doing an awesome job with you content and channel. You have inspired me to build my 2nd PC, (this PC will be for my soon to be 6 year old son). When it comes to buying used PC parts im very skeptical as I don't tend to trust many strangers. However, your potato videos really sparked my inner "deal hunter". I used to work at Future Shop (Canada's Best Buy) a few years ago, so finding deals is something I love to do. So far I've found 2 deals which I would like to get your feed back on.. 1st deal, Ryzen 3 2200G for $80CAD (Retail Price is $160 after tax) I felt like this was a no brainer. My 2nd deal is, *Brand New* Corsair 16GB DDR4 2400hz for $70CAD.. It's not the best deal i'd say, but I figure i can OC the RAM (maybe 2666-3000hz) and I saved a few bucks & the tax!! (Tax is 13% where i'm from) Anyway, thank you in advance for taking the time to read my comment. Looking forward to hearing from you!! Cheers from CANADA
My take on Bryan and Tech Yes City. The dude is just an entertainer plain and simple. He could make videos about anything and I would watch them. He is always full of energy and enthusiasm and just loves what he is doing and you know that from watching.
I ordered a new build today with a 1600AF here in Belgium today, 20 minutes later these video's drop XD glad the 1600 was just 110 euro's compared to the 135 for the 3300x or i would be pulling my hear out right now
You keep mentioning the 12 core xeon as being great value for money for video editing. Could you do a video editing comparison video? Xeon 12 core vs Ryzen 9 3900x vs R 5 3600x vs i7 4790k? Editing and rendering 1080p & 4K video for youtube?
I moved from 4 to 6 cores and, for the games I play, I really didn't "see" major differences. I was going to sell my de-lidded Liquid Metal i7-3770k...but not right yet. It still kicks some pixel butt!!!
Similar situation here. Still running on 4C/4T, and not sure what is worth upgrading to. On one hand I have games that easily push the triple digits, but then there are some that drop into the 40's. Especially annoying when those games don't scale too well over many cores. The best would probably something like a 3300X running on 4.8 GHz, but that isn't around.
Oh god, I've been mulling over Xeon vs Ryzen for a new editing rig and had convinced myself I should go Ryzen, but now I'm second guessing haha A 12/24 cpu and 32 gigs of DDR3 ECC is dirt cheap on AliExpress right now. Great vid though! 3300x will be the king of budget/mid gaming.
Hi there. Do you think that the 4/8 count of the Ryzen 3300x Will be relevant much longer? Cause i'm in doubt putting togheter a Budget setup and i get an 1600af 15% cheaper. Maybe with 6/12 it's gonna keep it up better with next gen games? (Already got a nice deal for the GPU. It's a 1660 súper)
You should try Snowmans dual tower cooler, 6 dummy thick heatpipes at a price of ~19$ (One fan), stated (One fan) that it can cool ~100w, though buy the 2 fan version 2$ more but 30w more cooling performance, try it out. Also try the great wall G400 at 27$ nice RGB cooler, dual tower with a little bit less than 130w cooling, both have free shipping.
I have a ryzen 3600 that runs hot. Have 4 case fans and using the stock cpu cooler. At idle its around 50c and when gaming it gets up to 90c occasionally. No overclocking done at all
Lookin' really good, would get the 3300X right away but I have a 3600 already xD Now what I am waiting for is considerable price drops on the likes of the 3700X or even the 3900X
I'm not in the market... in January 2020 I found a good deal for an i7-9700F on E-Bay... so i'm sitting at 8 cores and 8 threads... though that does feel really odd having an 8 core i7 with no hyperthreading... but it was a big upgrade from my i7-4790... and yes, I concur that just seeing/hearing "i7" makes me excited... even if there's better CPU's out there with lesser names.
Lol I just ordered 3300x from a company I don't know when will deliver as soooo want this and haven't even sold my old rig yet! Hope single core is great for emulators!
HELLo Sir , thank u for these benchmarks . Can i pair this ryzen 3 3100 with my X570 Steel Legend ? actually i was planning & waiting for Zen 3 Cpus bt unfortunately they are coming after CES JAN 2021 till then i need a substitute budget cpu .. can i pair this with X570 mobo with DDr4 16GB @3200mhz?
For 4 cores only - please test with a realistic test bench with afterburner, discord, couple of chrome tabs running in the background. Because in real life scenarios, quad cores are gonna get hit more with these running in the background instead of 6 or 8 cores.
I wish you paired with other more budget orientated gpu's, like a 1660s. Ive had this gpu bottlenecked for months and im wondering which cpu i should get
I'll always take more cores and sacrifice short term peak performance for longevity. Back in the days, while core 2 duos had the crown in gaming performance, the slower per core quads offered incredible longevity and value for money.
This was why I chose an FX8350 back in the day, over an i3-4350 (same price). Never had any complaints, it was always fast enough for what I wanted to do.
Well the 8350 had troubles beating the 3770k in multithreaded applications out of the box even though it had twice the cores. In this video we see the 1600af having more overall performance
im interested in this new ryzen 3, im planning to upgrade form my i4 4460...... but one qustion tho.... should i get the new ryzen with all the new mobo and new ram or just get the 17 4770 ?
And seeing the results. Other than Heavy Multicore Applications these new cpu`s are amazing and they are not that far in the graphs against the Ryzen 5 1600 AF. Now i would consider this a win for these new 4c/8t CPU. I just mostly game at my pc and often times do some photoshop work. I think this CPU should fit me just fine. I wanna hold on to this rig for atleast 5 - 6 years till i upgrade to a new rig entirely.
well it’s 200 and 230 on newegg now 😐 I was following it for a bit, but hopefully towards the end of july when i’ll be able to afford a new cpu/mobo/ram it’ll go back down
Brian, some youtuber found out 3100&3300x have same gaming performance as 1600AF when paired with 1660S. Can you benchmark these CPUs with budget GPUs (rx570, 1660S, 5500xt) and compare them to 1600AF?
I would couple a 3100 our 3300x with a RX570 our RX580 nothing more.A 5700 yes when i planning to upgrade to a bigger cpu in the future otherwise ney.Good review.
Hi... can you show a comparison b/w Ryzen 3500 to 3300x both are available for the same amount here in india. 10k both but 3500 is 6c/6T & 3300x is 4/8T. & Is the 2 extra cores of 3500 are better investment for next 5 years period than 4c/8t of 3300x.since the console's are going for 8 core.
Can the new ryzen 3 3100 cpu run on the Asrock A320M Motherboard. There were rumours about it but I can’t find any answers whether it’s a yes or no online?
I have a ryzen 5 1400 on a A320m-r asus prime motherboard. Should i go for ryzen 5 3600(or 3700x but im scared to put it on my mobo) or consider this 3300x/3100 cpu? I dont think that i could enable overclock profiles on my motherboard. I have overclocked my ram from 2400mhz to 2666 (16 gb). Any suggestions?
4 core's still rock pretty hard for gaming. Though if I had the money i'd invest in something along the lines of a 6 core, the typical gamer like's to run discord, could be running game capture software, might have chrome open, ESL anticheat etc, having those extra cores can really help mitigate slowdowns in those situations. But don't get me wrong my 3820 will rock till the day it dies, still plenty of performance potential, and these chips look pretty ace
You're probably limited by the card, so wont see a fps gain. And we are moving to 8 cores in the near future. How will these 4 cores do then? Would be a pointless exercise.
I think the AMD Ryzen 3 3100 is a great desktop processor that would give really smooth performance in games. I think an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 Super would be a great graphics card to pair it with.
2 months late but dang, i build Ryzen 3 3100, GTX 1650 Super (ocd to 2040 Mhz) along with a A320M 3rd gen mobo + 16 GB 3000 Mhz dual channel ram and it's a beast. Running games like Plague's Tale at 80 fps average at 1080p Ultra settings
The Ryzen 3 3100 is surprisingly good, I've been running it for a while now and it can handle 1080p gaming like it's nothing. Yeah the 3300X does offer a bit more performance, but it's rare and priced so high that the Ryzen 5 3600 offers a better long-term value proposition.
Budget fans should focus on the A520 motherboards, should be the good mix of value and very latest AMD modern Mobo’s..They will be out at same time as B550 -June.
Without Ryzen we'd still be coughing up $350 for 4C/8T. But with Ryzen you get this level of performance at about 1/3 the cost. F Intel. They screwed us for a long time. No way I'm gonna get Intel even if they priced their stuff at half price. AMD fought so hard to get here, I'm going with AMD all the way!!

Make a benchmarkvideo of 3300x vs 1600af when gaming+streaming, that would be very interesting.
Hey great review today. You were really on point and clever... Stay safe..
Good point on cpu benchmark.
Like who tf plays Ashes of the singularity ?
But even more so, who tf does pure cpu rendering in blender/premiere, cuda performs way better.
I like playing Ashes of The Benchmark. It is good strategy game if you like scifi genre.
That was an opening if I have ever seen one. Good work there Bryan. (:
As for the chips, wow. That is all I will say. ;)
If your workload needs alot of ram go for the Xeon
@@kruxdt6307 That's what I've been leaning towards now. Hard to beat some of the deals you can get right now on the Xeon's.
Ryzen 5 3500 vs Ryzen 3 3300x
I am gonna pair it with RTX 2060 SUPER.
Which CPU should i buy
I managed to get the 1600af before the buying craze and I love it
Perfect CPUs for a HTPC setup. be interesting to see how they handle next gen games i suspect they will do just fine for a couple of years at least
Love to see realistic cpu and gpu combo's. Great stuff as always. Where's Dadman these days Bri?
You should try Snowmans dual tower cooler, 6 dummy thick heatpipes at a price of ~19$ (One fan), stated (One fan) that it can cool ~100w, though buy the 2 fan version 2$ more but 30w more cooling performance, try it out.
Also try the great wall G400 at 27$ nice RGB cooler, dual tower with a little bit less than 130w cooling, both have free shipping.
Thinking of whats possible and whats not... Perfect time for a linus ad
hey brian on amazon they said those 2 new CPu's are only compatible with b450/x470/x570 updated !!??
i like the idea of these, too i also have a 1600AF, and a fx 8320 for other diff things
Oh boy, that intro really is top tier! (Unlike the cpus you pulled out of the m&m pack)
I have a ryzen 3600 that runs hot. Have 4 case fans and using the stock cpu cooler. At idle its around 50c and when gaming it gets up to 90c occasionally. No overclocking done at all
Lookin' really good, would get the 3300X right away but I have a 3600 already xD
Now what I am waiting for is considerable price drops on the likes of the 3700X or even the 3900X
Dell T3500 Or Hp Z600 series which one of them is Better Plz Reply !
( they both have same XEONS and are both Workstations)
Hello ive a question concerning the power consumption chart, is it the full system's power consumption with cpu+gpu etc.. or only cpu?
Lol I just ordered 3300x from a company I don't know when will deliver as soooo want this and haven't even sold my old rig yet! Hope single core is great for emulators!
At 4:21, can you explain to me why the differences between processor performance would be even less if you changed the GPU for a cheaper one?
Thanks for the information 👍.
Good dose of the daily Tech YES!!!
For 4 cores only - please test with a realistic test bench with afterburner, discord, couple of chrome tabs running in the background. Because in real life scenarios, quad cores are gonna get hit more with these running in the background instead of 6 or 8 cores.
Bryan do u have an idea that z170 can run i9 9900k now via bios mod ?!! Maybe u can extract some value from that ?!
I wish you paired with other more budget orientated gpu's, like a 1660s. Ive had this gpu bottlenecked for months and im wondering which cpu i should get
Speaking the truth for all of us as always in tech yes city.
Which is the best GPU for i5 4440 for streaming .. I have 8 GB ram and a r9 280x .. Thats why i want to upgrade the GPU
You know what relevant too? Tech Yes City.
This is bullshit opinion....everybody bought fx8350 8 cores will be awesome in future and it never was....a shit cpu is shit cpu no matter the cores
Well the 8350 had troubles beating the 3770k in multithreaded applications out of the box even though it had twice the cores.
In this video we see the 1600af having more overall performance
1:42 what am I even looking at... a 76 fps gain over the 1600 AF? This CPU is freaking amazing. Definitely not gonna stay at 120 bucks
I just used your Sdckey code to buy a windows 10 pro licence ; ) anything to support my favorite channel.
im interested in this new ryzen 3, im planning to upgrade form my i4 4460...... but one qustion tho.... should i get the new ryzen with all the new mobo and new ram or just get the 17 4770 ?
@Ons Huis actually I might just keep my 4460, I'm pairing it with rx570 too haha
Which also shows the 1600AF is a great choice, the 3100 not.
well it’s 200 and 230 on newegg now 😐 I was following it for a bit, but hopefully towards the end of july when i’ll be able to afford a new cpu/mobo/ram it’ll go back down
Brian, some youtuber found out 3100&3300x have same gaming performance as 1600AF when paired with 1660S. Can you benchmark these CPUs with budget GPUs (rx570, 1660S, 5500xt) and compare them to 1600AF?
Are you sure these cpu support a320 mobo??? I’m pretty sure they only support first and second gen?
can you make a comparation between dual x5672 and something like a ryzen 7 1700
Please compare theese new comers with old monsters such as xeon 2696 v2 or 2689 V1.
I would couple a 3100 our 3300x with a RX570 our RX580 nothing more.A 5700 yes when i planning to upgrade to a bigger cpu in the future otherwise ney.Good review.
Lmao the matrix. epic video as usual. Im still gonna hold on to my r3 1200 until the 2700 or 3700 get closer to 100 euros ;)
On the flip side, I got some haribo once when buying some parts. I think they added it in to sweeten the deal ;)
Hi... can you show a comparison b/w Ryzen 3500 to 3300x both are available for the same amount here in india.
Would these outperform a Xeon E5 2640 V3?
In Games? Most likely. In productivity stuff, not so much.
Is ryzen 3300x better than the turbo unlocked xeon e5 2640 v3
Is this a Ryzen edition M&M's?? Gotta get one of this
You should've tested it with a RTX 2060 KO if you have one in hand.
Thing is in the future are more games gonna be optimised for more cores? i saw this in a bitwit video so i'm a bit torn
The last second is the best and awful truth in my country as well (Mex), it's nuts
Is Discord really that big of a thing? I don't know a single person who uses it.
Hi,
Should i upgrade my 2600 with 3300x? PC is used only for gaming. GPU is RX580 8GB.
You're probably limited by the card, so wont see a fps gain.
And we are moving to 8 cores in the near future.
How will these 4 cores do then?
Would be a pointless exercise.
I recently snagged a PC with an i5 3470 8gb ddr3 ram and about 1 tb for around 150 $ usa it works well but window is mest up. Was it a good deal???
You should of been able to get a lga1151/1150 socket and 4 core/4thread cpu desktop for that price.
AMD fought so hard to get here, I'm going with AMD all the way!!
can you do a a320 ryzen 3 3100 build and does a320 support boost clock?
That was seriously the best ending of a tech or maybe youtube video I have ever seen. lmao
Tech Yes! - Awesome content as always, new budget king?
I'm making a small form factor emulator pc with the 3300x. Should be a beast
Over here in Europe they go for 110€ (US$120/AUS$185) and 130€ (US$142/AUS$218) respectively.
